Since the obj is in equilibrium there must be a force equal to the weight force which is the normal force, perpendicular to the surface and magnitude equal to the weight of the object. normal force increases when further force is applied to the object perpendicularly. in this case, as the net force is still zero, then the sum of the weight force and the external force is equal to the normal force. -mg -Fadditional + Fnormal = 0 (as mg and Fa are in downward direction and Fnet = 0) thus mg + Fa = Fn normal force decreases when an object's weight force is somehow decreased, which can be done by pulling it upward with a rope/string (i.e tension). in this case, the difference of mg from T (T=tension) is equivalent to normal force as Fn = mg. normal force cannot be negative in cases where tension upwards is greater than the weight force downwards. instead, the object starts to accelerate, violate newton's first law and cease to have Fnet = 0. the object is pulled away from the surface and its normal force is instead 0.
DUDE! U saved my life and my brain too, I was in the confusion all the time that what is the 'N' thingy in the equation for static/kinetic friction: F = mu*N. If I hadn't seen this video I would have spent hours and hours on understanding such a simple thing. Thanks a lot.

This resistance is like a force between atoms that prevents them from blending into each other. If there were no such resistance between the surface and the object, we would probably be able to pass through walls, similar to what we see in superhuman movies. From this, we can conclude that there is indeed a force of resistance acting there. Oh, and it just clicked me that it’s not really friction because friction works horizontally. Instead, the term "perpendicular resistance" or "repulsion force" is more accurate to describe this phenomenon.

The normal force is fundamentally a manifestation of electromagnetism. As are just about all of the forces you experience at the macroscopic level, with the exception of gravity. The strong and weak nuclear forces really don't show up outside the scale of the individual atom, as these forces add up to zero by the time get a micron away from the nucleus. So every macroscopic non-gravitational force is electromagnetism at its fundamental level. Compression, tension, shear, friction, traction, buoyancy, viscosity, human pushes and pulls, air drag...all of the above are electromagnetism.
Strong and weak forces have nothing to do with any of the forces you experience at the macroscopic level. Strong forces are what explain why a nucleus full of positive protons can stick together, when the protons would otherwise repel each other and neutrons would be experience no force from the protons. Weak forces explain radioactive decay. The strong force and weak forces are named as such, unimaginatively, because the strong force is stronger than electromagnetism, and the weak force is weaker than electromagnetism.
What the normal force really is, is compression forces. At the atomic level, it is the local repulsion forces between adjacent atoms' outermost shell of electrons. Atoms are net neutral, and with enough distance, they are indifferent to each other in terms of electrostatics. But bring them close enough, and the outermost electrons of each adjacent atom repel each other, stronger than they attract their neighbor's nucleus. This series of inter-atomic repulsion forces, throughout the structure of a solid, is what builds the normal force. Tension forces come from inter-atomic bonding forces that hold the atoms in their crystal lattice. Shear strength comes from the fact that crystal structures are not simple cubic, and have diagonal paths among the atoms to resist sliding.
To my understanding, a normal force is a contact force of a surface. And you're example of a rope holding something up is a tension force, even if it makes equilibrium.
draw free body diagram its impossible for it to stick to the surface without any external force acting against the gravitational one it will have some acceleration (i.e. system is not in equilibrium) on it since the force aren't balanced
If the object is at rest and you push it down by a massive force until it crashes the ground and makes a hole in it does that make the forced exerted by the ball on the ground higher and stronger than the normal force? And if thats the case does that break the first law of newton?
in most cases it assumed that the surface in solid, but the normal force has a limit to the breaking stress of the medium, in a breaking case, the medium on which it falls will in turn provide the normal;; , but hey thats just a theory, a physics theory

at around 3:31 in the video you drew the force of normal going upward I thought the force of normal is opposite the direction of the applied force if there a force of the rope pushing the block up shouldnt then the force of the normal be going down please explain
Electromagnetic force is the force w/c exists b/n charged particles while normal force is just a force between surfaces and bodies(objects).normally the basic d/ce is that the former exists at microscopic while the second appears at macroscopic level.

Is the normal force always opposite the weight
Where does "Normal Force" really come from? Like I know that weight came from the mass x gravity. Why and where must there be a normal force (cancelling) is there an unknown force pushing it against the weight? (I know the 3rd Law of Newton) but why is there an opposite reaction when it doesn't have friction? Or are there?
Note that I'm referring to a Horizontal 0 deg plane with a block of (anything) and referring to y-axis only TYSM
