The Nautilus squat press is the greatest leg press motion machine I have ever touched. Super adjustable back angle and as press the angle of the foot pad changes similarly to a squat.
ruclips.net/video/uSKQgLLhaFY/видео.html Fairly certain that a nerdy, passionate engineer could easily customise it further by adding some springs or levers or something, so as to ensure measurable, desired tension when the range of motion exceeds parallel!
Yes, finally! Been hoping for a bodybuilder to provide actual recommendations on machines. There are way too many for an average home gym user to test out. Whereas professional bodybuilders will have way more experience with tons of different machines. Looking forward to back and leg machines!
One downside of working out in my home gym is space. I have my garage packed to the max. The last machine I got was the pendulum squat machine (no ragrets) but I would love a decline hammerstrength chest press/pull down combo and one of these bad boys.
There is a similar machine in the gym I go and until you try it out you don't know how amazing it is. It's barely used by anyone, people seem to do dumbell lateral raises all the time but I love this machine.
better than the Panatta model? That machine also acts as a lower pec fly (resistance can be reversed) and has a head rest so you can comfortably bend over and do rear delt flyes...
Dr. Mike, Since I discovered your channel I have become more jacked than I ever was. Thank you so much! Serious question though. I'm having trouble scrubbing my back, now that I finally have some muscle. Asking my wife to do it for me seems counterproductive since I'd rather have her in front of me instead of behind. What are your tips around this? Or should I just keep telling her if she does what I want I'm ok with her doing it to me too? Seriously now, Thank you for all the amazing content. I love your humor, professionalism and wish I was your friend.
As a pleb myself I think I will never have the pleasure to train with this piece of art... My favourite shoulder exercise are Lu Raises so I'm sure I would enjoy this one
DMV Iron in suburban DC has this (and many more Atlantis pieces). You absolutely should train there when in town. I can't imagine that there are 5 more complete gyms in the country.
Cool machine. Machine have advanced a long way from the days of nautilus. The new machines in R&D with servos and programmable force curves incredible but still 4x price. The future is all servo driven force machines. For benching the machines can duplicate the feeling of bands and chains on conventional bar
On the topic of different machines, if you could only have 1 of the following for legs which would you choose? Leg press, pendulum squat or a hack squat?
Would mimicking the movement with dumbells instead would be as effective as this machine? As great as this machine is, it doesn´t seem to be a common machine, and specially not for people who workout at home
Dumbbell lateral raises are good, but probably not as effective as the machine. The machine will give more tension in the bottom of the movement, where you're the strongest.
@@derpenismann5131 obviously not as the path the machine moves is always perpendicular to your lever arm meaning you get constant tension. This isn't possible with dumbbells
That machine provides continuous tension to the delts, even at the bottom, but dumbells would lose some tension at the bottom range and very top range due to how the forces of gravity only pull straight down. It's a good alternative, but if you try that machine, you will feel a much better stimulus to yhe delts through the whole motion.
Great video! The timing is spot on. These exercises are awesome. Question for you... have you ever tried Next Level Diet? I got a muscle-building meal plan from them that's worked wonders for me.
Would *too* dramatic a force bias towards the bottom of this particular exercise not run the risk of on balance shifting the sticking point onto the supraspinatus, thus ruining the plan to push maximum difficulty onto the stretched delt? The supraspinatus is so weak, and dominant in *most* of shoulder abduction to 90 degrees, that the dumbbell lateral raise isn't really *that* far off from emphasizing the bottom part of deltoid action. If this machine not only flattens things out but goes *further* that seems like it might be plenty enough, no?
The side delts are active through full shoulder abduction, all the way up overhead. As you abduct your shoulder past about 100 degrees, the humerus eternally rotates to clear humerus from acromion and it starts to recruit some front delts and upper traps, but the side delts get more work as well. Give it a try and see how it feels!
You lose quite a bit, but get great trap and front delt activity, so you can cut the ROM just above shoulder level if you like, or go up further if you like! - Dr. Mike
In a previous video, you say not to go too high when doing lateral raises, but here you're going super high. Is there a difference between doing lateral raises with the machine and when using dumbbells?
How does this machine compare to the Pennata Multi Flight? Anyone have any experience with both? The Multi Flight looks like it has a lower footprint. Also has the added benefit of being well suited for rear raises and you can do pec flies too. I'm looking to get one of these machines and would appreciate any insight!
I always feel like it would be nice if the movement started just a few degrees lower at the bottom, you lose a bit of ROM. Also would be nice if it had a adjustable cam like Prime. They should just license it or do a mashup with Prime. Those two vendor lines are much more complimentary than competitive overall…
Recently a new gym opened next to me with a lot of Atlantis and Hoist machines, sadly not this one though but the results I have feel so much better with these machines than the old Technogym shit at my old gym.
Yea but that’s the great question; “how do I add tension to the bottom?” I’ve been wondering how to create something to attach to weight stacks that would accomplish this. If anybody says reverse bands, jump into a dagger
I wish Shoulder Adduction machines would exist (or be at least somewhat common) in order to isolate the lats while performing an adduction of the shoulder and having a high degree of tension in the stretched position. Doing it with cables is also possible but it limits the rom. Otherwise there's a high to low chest fly machine that's basically the exact opposite of the side raise machine in the video but you're internally rotated in the top which makes it really awkward to go this high so you can basically only perform adduction in the lower half of the rom
@@hijo1998 I had access to an old nautilus pullover machine when I was in school, it was the coolest thing. It was amazing for isolating shoulder flexion. It was all lat and you could get an amazing stretch (there was a foot pedal to help you lift the weight into position). I've seen pictures / videos of old nautilus machines that have roller pads that go under your arms and allow isolation of shoulder adduction, but from where the pads rest, I doubt you can get a good stretch. Have you ever tried a medium to wide neutral grip bar on a cable pulldown? It's not isolation, but it might be able to get you the stretch you want.
