Wow,you have a LOT of patience! I would have brought it all together in the living room, seen what she could set up and pack up herself, then said that’s all she could keep!😂🤣😅
I enjoy these videos SO much. I want to cry over how happy I am that you get to do this with your grandma. You know the stories behind every item she owns (or you will by the end). SUCH a gift. You are a blessing. Tell grandma we totally understand about the mice. These things happen. When you went into the basement I almost had a panic attack at all the stuff. But she loves it, that’s what matters! ❤❤❤
Grandma 👵 doesn't need to be embarrassed about the mice in the basement! I live in the country surrounded by farm fields on three sides. Most years in November, I have 1 or 2 mice that find their way in. My dog won't catch them, but he wakes up and stalks them at night, so I know to put out traps to catch them. I noticed Grandma has some of the same Christmas towels that I have😅 👵🎅👵🎄👵🎁
If you panicked you hid it really well! You did so well. You’re so sweet and respectful of her and her feelings and I love that about you. I know you tease her good naturedly, and I do believe she accepts that way. But watching the three of you, it’s obvious the love that’s in the room. And I don’t care it was after Christmas, it was still so fun to watch! Thanks for putting it up!
Mice in the country in a basement is 100% normal. And it’s safer that she’s not going up and down the stairs and carrying boxes. Especially alone. I’m glad you’re helping her. And Amazon has so many nice ornament storage boxes! And you’re right to be careful. I like the way everyone handled this. And gramma this is nothing to be embarrassed about. And I collected Santa’s too! I have so many Santa ornaments…Santa as a punk Rocker, as a cowboy, vintage, you name it I have it! I love Santa too. I have that same tree and that same Santa tree topper too! Great minds think alike. And Gabbi, I have three different “looks” in decor. I have the red and green Santa themed, then I have like the ocean-y blues and greens and turquoises, with silver and gold baubles, it’s really pretty, and the last one is cottage core. It’s popcorn garland, and mushrooms and forest animals and mice, with little glasses and newspapers tucked under their arms. Very cabin or cottage-y! So I just go with I’m what I feel like, and sometimes I go really big and decorate everything and sometimes it seems like way too much work, and I’ll only put up my tree. And maybe some pretty cling decor on the windows. Gramma, Gabbi loves this! She did it for strangers in AZ!
Wow! A marathon. Well done Gabbi. I think it’s more normal to have just what you need for decorating or it quickly gets overwhelming, as in your grandma’s case. But it means a lot to her and she did let go of some. ❤❤
You were so patient and gentle with your grandma. I have a hard time with people hanging onto so much decor. (that other people have to deal with). I went to my mother's house once a week for 7 months to try to get rid of enough stuff to move her into a retirement place. She didn't like it after 2 months and we had to haul all her stuff back home and tell the new potential owners we weren't selling after all! Then she got cancer and died a year later and we had to go again through all her stuff and figure who was taking what, and have an estate sale for the rest. It turned me into a minimalist!!!
My grandparents always said put your name on whatever you want to have once we’re gone it’s yours that way there’s no fighting. I chose her China hutch, end table & a piece of furniture that went to a bedroom set (we divided that up between the 3 of us) 😂❤ so now whenever I look at those items it reminds me of them & the fun times we had growing up seeing that furniture in their home & now it’s in mine. 💗
My grandparents did the same with adding notes to certain items for us grandkids. I’m so thankful they did. Your grandma is blessed to have you helping her out.
A lot of people seem to be baffled by their parents/grandparents towel collections. But I get it because I learned from my mom and aunt where I have enough towels for 2 weeks and I change towels either daily or every other day. Then you always know you are using a clean towel, especially with others in the house.
I rotate Christmas decor from year to year. I've decluttered my decorations over the past three years so that it's easy to decorate and easy to put away; and I'm very organized.
38:40 He’s adorable, I love him 😊 We mostly only decorate for Christmas not so much other holidays except a bit for easter - might be a Danish thing… Some Christmas decorations are up each year in the same spot, some gets rotated, some skip years if we only decorate a bit. Finally, we have two itty bitty elfs (or more specifically two Danish nisser) that’s out year round in a sort of inconspicuous spot to make sure Christmas comes back each year 😊
What an absolutely wonderful way for you to spend time with your grandmother!!! Having fun and helping her all at one time. I think that is fabulous!!! Happy new year!!!❤❤❤❤
i helped my grandma downsize before moving to retirement. it was so much fun. it was every saturday for months. before I had kids, but still it was such quality time. my grandparents had lists of what went to who. :)
I think some people have lots of Christmas items more then anything else because that is their favorite holiday it becomes a collection not just normal amount of decorations. Grandma had some nice vintage items that go high at auctions now. The old glass ornaments the red 2 piece candle holder if called a fairy lamp the big white snowman you didn't love his face looked vintage. At least you made some progress.
Love these videos! So... I *DO* have Christmas items that I don't put up every year - but that's because I break down my decor into "color or theme". For example: there's "pink/girly" Christmas (for my granddaughters). There's "candy" theme. And, of course, "traditional" colors. A little peek into my organization. With that said, I'm super organized - everything's broken down into different colors. So, whatever I've decided the theme is for that year, I just pull out the containers that match the color scheme or theme. :) ❤❤❤
I have always used everything I buy for decor, otherwise why store it for two years or more before using it again, if ever! And now, as a minimalist, I Wang less than ever at 71 years old!
We use everything we keep. I grew up in a house where we had WAY too much stuff that my mom would rotate through and it was always daunting. So my partner and I have limited our holiday decor so we always use everything each year. Keep it simple ☺️
I have limited putting out some of my decorations but only because one of our young cats loves to jump high and I don’t want the things broken. I love decorating at the various holidays but since they only come once a year, it doesn’t seem reasonable to have more than you can put out! I have aging parents and am going through things with them. It makes me less attached to things because in the end, it is stuff.
Being roughly the same age as your grandma, I also have lots of Xmas decor I don’t put up every year (not quite as much as your grandma, that’s true, but a Brit, so much smaller house and a lot less storage space) Some is stuff I’ve bought and is old-fashioned (might come back into style though🤭), some is stuff inherited from my grandma (so even more old-fashioned) but a lot is stuff the children and grandchildren have either made and gifted or just gifted. This, you will discover as your children get older and the school send them home with their gifts! Then there’s the sentimental items which remind you of the friends (gifted or they talked you into buying) who are no longer here. Can’t part with that stuff but don’t, necessarily, want it on display 😂
We do rotate a few of our Christmas decorations each year. This year we also sorted out the winter, snowmen and let it snow items abd decorated with them after we took down the Christmas stuff. We'll leave the winter decor up til Feb. Then I will decorate for Valentine's Day!!
When you put away the Christmas stuff, discard most of the individual cardboard boxes, and instead, wrap fragile things or layer them with all the Christmas towels. It will protect them and make more room in the totes.❤❤❤❤
Agreed that the potbelly Santa needs to go. Nana, don’t worry about the mice. Happens to a lot of us. They just find their way in. Some years worse than others. Using the plastic tubs should help. Glad you got to gather and go through all your decor with Gabbi. It’s nice that you have homes for the decor…that helps wanting to put it out. We have a sizable house but not much surface space (weirdly). So, I have decor that doesn’t get displayed at Christmas, but I keep cuz I love it and will have an opportunity in the future.
We don’t have a lot of decorations, but I’m hoping in the future to have a couple of themes to rotate out. Not too much though, because I do not want to spend hours upon hours decorating. I can totally see rotating decorations if like different styles each year. Because putting up the same thing every year gets old
I enjoy your videos and look forward especially to the Grandma ones, but, I'm a little worried now. Can she have someone from pest control come for the basement mice? Then have someone look for how they re getting in. I am thinking about the contamination and the prospect of Hanta Virus...Sorry for that, but, the possibility is there...
I always put all the decorations out, never had space or funds to buy a lot to not use them every time and same as growing up as a kid. Just seemed overwhelming to have a lot and a bit wasteful
I don’t put out all my decorations every year. I gave away a lot my stuff. Maybe she will downsize some and give you some one day. No worries about the mice they’re everywhere.
You have just cracked me up several times watching this. You made the comment about why did I bring the kids, but I am thinking why did you bring gma. Girl isn’t letting go and you are right she knows EVERYTHING and would know in a heartbeat if the smallest thing was gone. Heck she knew those little 4th of July votives were missing . ROFL. You are the patron saint of patience. Happy New Year!
No, Baby Girl, I don't rotate Holiday decor. I'm an empty nester retiree now and I travel international to visit my son and his family for Christmas so I just throw the same stuff up year after year.
Rotating decorations sounds crazy to me because I don’t rotate my home decor. “Ain’t nobody got time for that!” But it mainly sounds crazy because it’s a seasonal decor that’s already being rotated in the mix! YIKES! I think all of the people who do that have the luxury (and curse) of having too much storage space! Also,Hobby Lobby and the Home Shopping Network are the worst thing to have happened to the American public!😖😵💫🙄
It is so much easier to give up sentimental items if it is going to loved ones. Speaking from experience. Perhaps family could show interest in some of the items to make it easier on Gma
I do not put out all of my decorations each year. If I am going to be at a family’s out of state, I decorate minimally. If they are going to be in my home, I decorate more fully.
There is no shame in mice doing what they are going to do but absolutely Nothing with mouse poop on it is worth keeping. Sorry grandma but these are no longer safe for your great grandchildren to be around.
Wow,you have a LOT of patience! I would have brought it all together in the living room, seen what she could set up and pack up herself, then said that’s all she could keep!😂🤣😅

I love hearing your grandmother's voice.
Grandma's sell/donating pile is her way of a "time will tell."
LOVE seeing this ANYTIME! It’s so great to see 3 generations working together ❤

I rotate decorations now for Christmas. Especially outside stuff.
We love your grandma & completely understand about country mice. Hugs to all❤
I'm so glad you still shared this video. I think Grandma did great 😊 can't wait to see more
You did good and you got your stair exercise in for the day

You are so sweet and I love how you love your grandma❤

It's better organized so that's a biggie. You made progress.
When you put away the Christmas stuff, discard most of the individual cardboard boxes, and instead, wrap fragile things or layer them with all the Christmas towels. It will protect them and make more room in the totes.❤❤❤❤
That’s what I did & I was able to eliminate quite a few bins & had more room in my garage closet. I NEVER keep anything in cardboard boxes!
I do like yourgrandma..i have 3 generations of items...and rotate them from year to year also.
We had mice in our kitchen a few years back and we don’t live in the country-so no judgment here!❤
I'm amazed you can keep it all straight
You should label the bins of the decorations that are going to be displayed in the basement, so you won't have to bring back upsides next year.
Everyone has mice at one time or another. We live in the country and have gotten rid of so many. It’s so nice you can help your grandma

Mice come inside in cold weather. It's nature! It's not a reflection of cleanliness.
I think it’s a personal choice, but I don’t like a lot of stuff so I don’t keep a lot of decorations
I do not put out all of my decorations each year. If I am going to be at a family’s out of state, I decorate minimally. If they are going to be in my home, I decorate more fully.
