Firstly, I love the show; as a lifelong Villa fan and Brummie living in the US (Dallas), it's how I keep my finger on the 'Aston Villa Pulse', hearing your opinions and thoughts keeps me in tune with the fanbase. Just following up on the comments on the US, I watch every Villa game on TV here, but having the opportunity to see them live in Pre-Season with my son, who is the next generation of Villa fan born here in the US is a dream for him and pure pride for me. Off to Chicago this weekend to watch them play Club America in the Chicago Bears Soldier Field 62,000 seater stadium, where I will be with many 1000s of Villa Lions Club members from all over the US - and so many more US folks following Villa now - not just those born in England. John is spot on, they know how to entertain here for certain. With all that said I think bringing a Prem game here is not ideal, jetlag, season ticket holder dissatisfaction, which games to show etc, but then as you argued it's exactly what the NFL does, its a 'league' game that comes over to the UK. For me, a solution would be to take the Top 16 from the previous Prem Season and do a mini knockout cup - Call it the 'International Cup' - 4 games to lift a trophy, perhaps have a 3rd place play off to get more game time for the fans. The only negative is that it is a long way to travel if you are knocked out in the first game, but perhaps that is where you have some local teams lined up to host those first teams knocked out. If you stick to this format you can rotate it to Australia, Asia, America, Saudi anywhere, and really push the Premier League brand. Games can be played all over the country hosting it. I think it would be an excellent way to get pre-season game time and push the brands.
Hi Dan/John! Brit in the US here, hubby and son are massive Villa fans too. John we saw you a few times in the pre game pubs during last years Prem league tour but were too shy to say hello 😂 With regards to playing games in the US we are not keen, purely because we want them to be able to concentrate on doing well in the Prem and Champions League and the other cup competitions without the stress of more travel. Having said that if they played in the States of course we’d go see them (and trust me that’s more than the cost of a season ticket!). There are loads of Villa mad fans over here, some like us from the UK and many Americans who found the Villa in various ways so there is definitely a huge market to be tapped in some way. Anyway just wanted to say that I love your podcast. Thank you for keeping us in the loop and entertained. I hope you and the other podcast crews understand what a difference you make to those of us so far away from home. Looking forward to a fabulous 2024/2025 season. UTV!!!
Chaps- I'm an Ex Brummy living in Miami. Going to VP is the ONLY thing I miss. When working for the Miami Dolphins we hated the NFL for taking away a home game to go play in Europe. Just got back from the Leipzig game- I think the EPL should do the summer series of Prem teams here in the States. The intensity of the Villa v Fulham game I went to a year ago was miles better than the RB game. I dont want regular season games here.
I am really surprised by John’s Kosta comments. I know he is young but he has looked class in preseason. Arguably one of our best players. i think by Christmas he will be starting in front of Cash. And he is already in front of Kesler Hayden. Age is not an issue if you have the quality and champions league experience like he does.
American supporter here! I am happy with seeing Villa on preseason tours until I can get to Villa Park. I don’t want the competitive integrity of the premier league to be jeopardized. We have incredible broadcast coverage in the US - I never miss a match. Maybe they can throw a cup match over here if they really want competitive games in the US?
Great vid again. I really enjoyed summer series last year, id like for villa to do that as our main pre season each year. I dont see any point in taking an actual premier league game over there. I think 3/4 games per team with about 6-8 teams going over each summer and calling it summer series is a really good way to give something to the American fans. As you said, it wont be played at villa park and it wont be the same atmosphere so its not like they are getting the premier league experience anyway.
brummie living in new york here, been living in the states for 10 years and am taking my son to his first villa game tonight and my first game in 10 years. for me only friendly games abroad. let’s not start that crap. last thing we want is to turn our beautiful game in to a NFL style game.
Need a centre back. We’re one down from last year and zero sign of mings being ready physically and he will take at least 3 months to get back up to speed.
Felix I doubt Felix will happen, probably a lucky escape in the long run. Dobbin & Archer will go out I think we’re desperate for a quick dominant CB good in the air considering our set piece frailties last season, if we go as we are I think we will struggle defensively. Carlos can’t be relied upon to stay fit. Still think we need a better quality back up keeper, concede 3 every game with Olsen in the side. Then obviously a Diaby replacement !
Realistically, it's time you show Archer more respect. If Archer wasn't needed or wanted, there wouldn't have been a buyback clause inserted in the deal when we sold him to SUFC. Its obvious that we sold him to comply with PSR and it's obvious that he can score goals and doesnt have an attitude problem. Perfect replacement for Duran.
Thanks for raising my question - PL stateside. JT is right, USA know how to entertain; I went to the league cup final, & 49ers v Jags in 2010, & the latter was infinitely more fun - tailgate, stalls, shows in the breaks, ht show; at the league cup no one could even get a programme! However, I know there are many aspects to the PL, or as some suggest, cup competitions, going stateside - seeing Villa in Times Square means we wouldn’t be out of place. 💜💙🦁
There is the issue of jet lag and time differences playing premier league games abroad ! I can’t see it happening, may play friendly. I’m loving the pre season games as I don’t have to get up at 3am Monday morning to watch a Villa game.
Regarding McGinn - if Felix comes in I think he'll probably be used in spots to spell Watkins for a start (though that's not his ideal spot). Watkins really ought to have some respite in busy windows. Assuming 50 games, say Watkins starts 40 and Felix 10 as 1st Striker. Felix then takes 30 starts at 2nd striker, and McGinn takes 20. McGinn gets another 20 starts spelling in CM/RM/LM. His versatility is one of his greatest strengths.
About Cameron Archer definitely a player massive potential especially goal scoring ability reason why we have kept him around so long and added the relegation come back slash buy-back. Showed moments of class at Sheffield not as many as he would have liked but in a poor team. May have gone under the radar lately but still classed as one of the best potential finishes amongst lower prem championship level and mid to lower level in Europe's top five leagues hence a lot of interest in him in the past the Sheffield deal suited us the best but there was definitely other bigger European clubs are interested. But like us bigger destinations are unsure to take the risk with his build up play and strength. Clearly his finishing at a high level but it's the rest of his game that needs improving.
Ex-Season Ticket Holder Dual UK/US Citizen here. As much as I love watching Villa in the US, I do not want to see a Premier League game played here. I think the integrity of both the Premier League and the MLS should be preserved. Maybe I’m just an old traditionalist 🤷♂️
Yeah the three blokes on the Columbus Crew badge are a construction "crew". Had to google that myself after last friendly because I wanted to know why American clubs have such silly names 😂
We need to sign Hermoso. If he come he is cover for Mings and can cover at left back too. Digne and Moreno can then leave. What if Pau gets an injury where he is out for a month like last season? We cant risk it.
It's obvious we need to sell, isn't it? One of Moreno/Digne, plus Dendonker, then Carlos or Cash and Duran's as good as gone. I don't think that Dobbin or Archer are CL calibre either. There's more trading to come in this window
Crew were ALL in, big tackes and defo not a friendly for them . Result not important, interesting to see us deploying a low block. Could have used that against Brentford
New players need to learn the system so it doesn’t concern me. So long as we’re trying stuff and i can see the patterns of play we could lose every preseason game and I wouldn’t care
Massive No for any premier league games outside of England. The labour government are continuing with the football governance bill that is currently at the committee stage in parliament. For sure this stops the english clubs from competing in a super league. But not sure how it affects league games being played abroad. I think its possible that it offers protection on this issue too. Even if all the owners want it and fans dont i think it can be stopped. When it comes into law next year i think this football regulator will have real power and teeth. Its a shame its needed but it is. Love our owners but generally we cant trust american owners. They need reigning in.
I think a big proportion of the fanbase is over estimating the game time barkley will get this year. I think he will end up with very limited minutes. He looks really stiff and immobile just like he did a couple years back. Even as a 6 i dont think his body can make it through and i think there is far more quality in the squad. Barrenchea included
Can you ask what John has against barbers? He cuts his own hair so doesn't have to visit one and his first comment about having a cats head is 'you would save money as won't have to go to the barbers.' Has he been wronged by a barber in the past?
Give an inch, they'll take a mile - they'll take it all. If they get a competitive game, is it going to stop there? Why not this extra game in a few years time? What about having a game in Qatar? Or Saudi? Or China? Etc... It should not be entertained in the slightest. We shouldn't play devils advocate with this nonsense.
John you are embarrassing your self with your fawning of the Yanks. Did you watch the Copa America, people climbing through aircon to get in, 25min halftime breaks for a pop star to sing, no transport to the games. Sigh!

I can see maybe a cup semi final or final being played in the states as they are played at neutral venues anyway.
Most definitely strengthening is needed in defence 💜💙💜

I was at the RB game. Unai said Mings is back in September
AWB a shout for RB? He’s a great defender. Then have Ezri and Torres CBs & Maatsen as the attacking full back on the left?
It's almost unbelievable that Konsa played right back most of the season and still got a game in the Euros. Great player. Great professional.
Felix I doubt Felix will happen, probably a lucky escape in the long run.
Dobbin & Archer will go out

Season pre-view on the steps of villa park would be EPIC
We wouldn’t be allowed to film there
@@ClaretBluePod easier to get forgiveness than permission 🤷🏼♂️
Jao Felix is probably wondering how he gets in the team when we have Super John Mcginn 💪🏻
Dan & John are the david baddiel and frank skinner of you tube. These chats are great UTV

We need a left sided CB, Mings is not ready for a while, so we only have Pau there.
"Chewing gum for the eyes" was a line from Father Ted.🤔
Crew were ALL in, big tackes and defo not a friendly for them . Result not important, interesting to see us deploying a low block. Could have used that against Brentford
With Felix in, McGinn should start ahead of Bailey for me. Without Felix, Bailey starts and McGinn supports Watkins.
Should do the pre season pod in Aston park 😂
I think we’d need a permit for that

No we just both have such a limited wardrobe 😂
We have left 4 right backs now
And it’s Fell-ix not Felix the cartoon cat!! 🤔😎
Claret and Mew
Definitely need to strengthen our defence ...
hopefully villa can get over their first game of the season voodoo. results against west ham and arsenal could put a tint on the seasons.
It’s not pronounced Feeelix, it’s Felix, like Helix.

Lazy
John Duran to stay ? Read it today guys
Columbus crew are in the middle of their season do you guys do any research 😂
Nah I don’t, John does
So the question is. 'Do you want to live and have a cats head OR do you want to die.
Why is John not in America?
Villa aren’t doing any external media so it’d be a wasted (and very expensive) trip sadly
