Finn was the one with the interesting character arc in The Force Awakens. They screwed it up in The Last Jedi. A storyline where a Storm Trooper turns into a Jedi could have been awesome.
@xenobreak1160 Not really. He was an interesting concept but it was poorly implemented even in TFA. I'd say they ruined his arc within the first 10 minutes, but it was completely destroyed when they decided he was just a janitor and he defected after his first mission.
@xenobreak1160 As soon as they had him say he was a janitor and that was his first mission, there was no weight to his backstory of being a Stormtrooper. What made the concept interesting is a bad guy struggling with his past, overcoming his indoctrination and making up for his misdeeds. They erased his guilt and made him blameless, and therefore boring as a character. That and the portrayal was comical and not in a good way. Finn didn't act like someone who had been trained to be a ruthless killer should act. He acted like how a child thinks a hero should act.

Same. Was 8 in 77 and hated Luke the Puke Skywalker even then. Now I feel justified my inner child thought he was a nub. Goodbye Vader, you will be missed my dark father. Don't even get me started about Luke being Vader's son.....
You have to separate Star Wars from Disney’s Star Wars. Read some of the books that served as sequels to Return of the Jedi. Don’t let them take Star Wars away from you!
I gave up on Disney Star Wars a couple episodes into the Kenobi show. Disney doesn't care about the continuity of Star Wars or anything else about it for that matter
At first I had a lighthearted thought of; “Good lord, they’re still planning on going ahead with this crap?” Then you go ahead and hit me in the feels… we’ll always have Vespin. Dark Forces, Tie Fighter, Desktop Adventures (lol), Battlefront… All the good times I had with friends. Hell some of the first real books I read were EU stuff. SW had a place in so much of my childhood, but now it’s not even a blip on my radar outside of “How are they screwing it up this year…”
The main market of Star Wars was Gen X. Disney attacked Gen X and above so the market has declined by huge margins. I was excited for Star Wars coming back because there were many resource material from fans. Oh well. They chose to let the past die so so be it.
It was definitely a killing of the past, it would never have died that fast if left alone. Also, Gen X has kids nowadays … not sure driving off the parents aggressively was that good a marketing strategy for Disney.
@davidgantenbein9362 It would have not died because people can create lightsabers and gravity manipulation is real in the future. But I guess it might not be called lightsabers in the future to avoid paying Disney for name rights.😁
@@francisty139 Rebel Moon just did „it’s a lightsaber, but we don’t call it that“ … and it’s by far not the first time. So yes, all the basic ideas are up for grabs and will show up in one way or another in the future. But it will not be Star Wars … though I really, really hope there will be great new things among it.
@@davidgantenbein9362 But it would be cool to identify yourself a Jedi or a Sith right? What should we call ourselves if we have real lightsabers and force manipulation if Disney still controls the IP by that time?
Not having an actual plan didn't do them any favours either. Neither did them throwing out the ones George Lucas left for them after acquiring Star Wars.
I absolutely refuse to watch anything kk is involved with. Simply on principle. Disney can’t do anything right because they are full of dei hires that have absolutely no clue what the hell they are doing. Is definitely and truly heartbreaking. It’s sad.
I heard my pastor once say "The opposite of love is not hate, it's apathy." That's where I'm at with Star Wars. It's dead and at this point I just don't care.
How quickly you forget that Star Wars hasn’t been “culturally relevant” since the 80s. Up to now, its niche demographic of sci-fi geeks is what allowed the franchise to live through the decades-long gaps between major films. Unfortunately, even that demographic has been scared away by now.
14:47 _"If George came back, current year George Lucas would give us something like Skeleton Crew."_ No he wouldn't. He'd give us something like _Red Tails._ It's over.
I want to see this one to release, so it can flop and I can laugh at it and modern disney. I used to get angry at the flops and them ruining star wars , then I was depressed , uncertain if they will ever improve, now I have just dropped almost all of star wars and it's unfortunate to me. It used to be a huge part of my nerdy collection as a kid and a teen.
As someone who was a MASSIVE Star Wars fan growing up Disney acquiring it really was the beginning of the end. The first Disney movie was essentially a rip off of New Hope and then it was downhill from there. I don't even think about it anymore.
When Star Wars was released in 1977, that date was closer to the end of WW2 than we now are to the release date of the film.. think about that... in fact, we are further away than the release of Ep1... the world has changed and NONE of the new writers or actors have any understanding of the culture of the time, and what made the story engaging. Cheers!
I just look at my reaction to Skeleton Crew: I watched several videos telling me that it’s actually good, but that didn’t make me interested at all. Saw one guy telling me how bad the finale was, and it was a relief to have now an outside reason to justify my disinterest. I‘m basically happy that there is a reason to no longer think about the idea of giving it a chance … we are talking here about watching a single episode, just for try on a friends account. That’s no commitment at all, but I‘m happy to have a reason for not doing so. That’s where I am, happy to not have to watch any new Star Wars just because I was once a fan. … I seriously have no idea what even could save Star Wars as I have no idea what would make me be interested again, when not even Jude Law does.
Thank you! I can not for the life of me get my daughters into all my old franchises, Star Trek, Star Wars, etc. They hate and are bored to tears with th new stuff. They've done irreparable damage to these franchises. :/
I was a kid in the 70's and 80's. I loved Star Wars. I read all the books, watched the movies a few times, had to save money just to buy the VHS tape. Then, star wars faded away for some time. I forgot about it and found other things, Stargate was big for me. Then, came the prequels. I was so excited. I and my late husband saw the first release in the theater. It was okay, but certainly not the Star Wars I grew up with. I passed the other two prequels. Never bothered. came the new films with the original cast. I was stoked. I saw the first movie where Han Solo died and that was it. I never bothered with the rest. That wasn't star wars either. I did see the first few episodes of the one with baby yoda, that was okay but that also lacked something. but better than the rest. Star Wars is done. Even if they did a reboot with a new luke skywalker, i would not bother with it. too much of a sour taste now.
In complete agreement. Force Awakens - Announcement that it included original cast (something I dreamed of for decades) got me 100% amped!! Thank God Disney bought Star Wars from Lucas so he doesn't screw it up like he did the prequel trilogy. When it came out: Meh. Got me wondering who Snoke was (Plagus the Wise?), but soured me for killing Solo needlessly and not seeing Luke until just before the credits. It was the first time I had ever genuinely felt I had been a victim of bait-n-switch. Rogue One - was fantastic! Really got me wanting to see a spin-off of Jyn Erso and her time with Saw Gerrera, or one with Chirrut & Baze The Last Jedi - was what killed the sequel trilogy for me. Too many 'tarded things to list. Also, fumbled the most spectacular way of saying goodbye to Carrie Fisher (by waking up in Superman mode). Holdo was literally what got me to sour on the idea of women as leaders. lol. Sucks for Kamala. lol Hey. It's just the truth, bruh. LOL. It's also the movie that put a crack in me being a life-long democrat. All the stuff that followed just worked to gradually bring me over to republican and ultimately voting for Trump: calling us bigots, yadda yadda, the gender stuff, the anti-white and anti-male stuff, the fight I didn't go looking for but found me and everyone else that fit that description. What a pack of whining weirdos. Welp, found something else for you to whine about - biggly LOL Solo - I actually watched this one hoping for another Rogue One. Figured maybe it was just the trilogy that was broke and the whole straight-white-man-bad thing had only barely been a thing in my day-to-day life (just The Last Jedi and Ghostbusters 2016 at that point). The Rise of Skywalker - I actually watched this one twice. The first time, I went in expecting.a shitshow and just to say I'd finished watching the saga to bring closure so I bought the cheapest ticket possible. I thought the force lightening looked different though and wanted to see it in IMAX 3D (so I went a second time). During the 2nd viewing, I noticed how the ending had pissed off all the Reylo fans and thought to myself, "Wow. These poor kids. They didn't even get a full trilogy without it being ruined for them." Also, the force lightening effect was in 3D left something to be desired lol. Also, this was the movie that got me to feel the entire StarWars brand was pointless. When I went to watch the original trilogy with Han Luke & Leia ... i was BORED! Really bored. Maybe it was how Rey ended up back at Luke's old hut from A New Hope, idk, but everything felt like a pointless journey. Thereafter I just laughed with embarrassment wondering how did I ever think lazer-sword space-man was cool? Man in black helmet raises hand and the on-set muppets tremble in fear. Gramps in bathrobe with zappity-zap fingies, like, so powerful bruh. lmao Disney then announces "...and we've got a crap-ton of MORE StarWars junk in the works..." Me: "Oh wow, they really do think they've got a good thing going here - with zero clue just how cooked this Star Wars thing is." Disney: "...only available on our channel..." Me: "Wow. More straight-to-vhs ..er.. The Disney Channel, huh?" Disney: "Not that one...Disney+, with additional monthly subscription charges..." Me: ".............wooooow. Who comes up with this shit?" Disney: "...also a Star Wars hotel...$2,000 a night (with minimum 3 night stay or whatever)" Jordan: "Stop it... Seek help."
The only way I can see Star Wars making a resurgence, is if Disney sells off the franchise to another company. Then people will get interested again, since it would no longer be made by the people the fanbase heats. And if it’s good, then it could make a comeback.
I think the best bet to get the Rey movie done is to hire the writing team that made she hulk. I would give disney my money to watch that in the theater's
The Skeleton Crew and Andor are the only Star Wars "Things" that didn't have the cast crapping on the audience for not liking it and they are probably the best ones
Just stop Disney, just stop. Rey is not a thing and it never will be. At this point, the only thing im still attached to for Star Wars is I still want to learn how to make a Nautolan mask/cosplay.
I'm really looking forward to the day when the next writer/director is gone from these projects that they break their silence and just goes public as to what is going on with Kennedy. There has got to be something major which just has had so many of these professionals just up and suddenly have "scheduling issues". I don't know if it's micromanagement, an insistence of injecting certain items/themes/characters into a movie, or whatever but it's going on six years and they still haven't put out any sort of movie.
Kathleen Kennedy is basically Hollywood royalty due to her ties with Steven Spielberg. I honestly don’t expect anyone breaking the silence as long as Spielberg is alive, but could see a lot of coverage about ten years after his death. Just remember that people like J.J. Abrams or Rachel Zegler became big through Spielberg, so his weight in Hollywood must still be immense. Nobody will go against that camp as long as it’s so influential for having a career as most people in Hollywood are extremely replaceable.
From multiple sources I'm hearing, the "airtight contract" is the reason Kathleen Kennedy won't go away. She might still have dirt on people, but it's sounding more like Lucas trusted her just a bit too much with his baby.
I think Kneon‘s comment about brand damage is spot on. Not only has Disney turned out a pile of crap, they‘ve changed everyone‘s opinion of the original trilogy too
And having Mark Hamill or anyone from the original trilogy getting publicly or on social media getting angry or bitter with people doesn't help Disney's cause.
I wish they just let the franchise rot, it's literally beating a dead horse at this point with all these divisive projects they annoyance that they have no intention of following through with.
I've said time and time again, the only way forward is to decanonize Disney Star Wars. The sequels said, the past is meaningless, characters are not worth attaching to, the force is a plotline device, morals are for losers... They undermined the story telling framework, ensuring there is absolutely nothing important to set it apart from any other space opera. So there's nowhere to go, Rey nobody/Skywalker/Palpatine is now the past and has been forgotten. At this point it's easier to bring back Buck Rogers than Star Wars if you refuse to get rid of what makes the franchise meaningless
I have mixed feelings. Part of me still doesn't want Rey's New Jedi Order or whatever they're doing to exist. And the other part wants Disney to lose a lot of money and prove that nobody cares about Rey.
Yeah as a life long mandalorian lore fan, Disney has done so much damage to that part of Star Wars in particular. What they did to Boba Fett is just unforgivable.
The RUclipsrs have ALWAYS said that her contract is the thing that keeps her there, PLUS she has gotten a contract renewal relatively recently as well. Also, one has to consider that they don't have anyone willing to take over a flaming wreck.
I was too young to see Star Wars: A New Hope live, but I saw The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi along with The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith under Lucas. I went with my spouse to see The Force Awakens and said I will never purchase tickets again to anything made by Disney. I think when you bring aspects of our reality into a movie, introduce DEI, gender swapping, political and woke ideology that was never their before then you have chosen to run people away from your market. There are several actors and producers I will not go see anything they make anymore; some I've followed their entire career since the 80's. I used to work security at conventions with a few of the actors and I tell you how they acted behind closed doors also ruined how I felt about them. But until Kathleen Kennedy leaves, I will continue like many others by not supporting any products attached to her name. As to Disney brand itself, you got to get rid of Bob Iger.
only thing that can MAYBE save star wars is a complete retcon of the sequel trilogy, give us an alternative timeline where Leia and Han live happily ever after with their son being a jedi under Luke's new Jedi order. Straight up not interested in seeing anything else.
Lol, Taika Waititi. Remember when he asked Natalie Portman if she wasn’t to do a Star Wars movie, and she had to tell him that she’d already done three?
Just shove this trilogy into the airlock and space it already. Really do this for Star Wars for around a decade and put new people have been put in charge of the IP.
Not just new people, but people who don't have to report to or work for Kathleen Kennedy, or anyone who is responsible for the Acolyte, Skeleton Crew, Kenobi, or the last two seasons of the Mandalorian being made.
Star Wars had a timeless story of heroism which while overdone and flawed at some parts remained genuine. Old fans kept it alive like my dad who was such a Darth Vader fan he immediately told my mom he needed an intricate lamp made of his helmet after I showed it to him. I laughed and treated the movie with more respect if it could get him that overjoyed... Disney killed all good faith. Glad my dad didn't have to see all of the sequel trilogy or know about The Acolyte.

A fish rots from the head. You said it yourselves: it's Pixar too. And not just Pixar: the same thing happened to Marvel. It's Disney. It's Bob Iger and the rest of the crowd running Disney. They've kept Kennedy in charge because, fundamentally, they agree with what she has been doing.
Star Wars is so dead I can't even watch the Orginal Trilogy anymore. Its just so terrible now. How could it have fallen so far down. Its honestly just 10000000% crap
Same
Same here. I cannot even watch the Original Trilogy from being driven so far away from Star Wars.
I can't watch ot without imagining Luke Skywalker yelling at kids.
Kneon's rant near the start reminded me of the term "Zombie Simpsons". This is Zombie Star Wars.
I gave up on Disney Star Wars a couple episodes into the Kenobi show. Disney doesn't care about the continuity of Star Wars or anything else about it for that matter
Just throw it in the land fill like the other merch
Can't see why they can't just drop all these dying legacy franchises. Lay them to rest because they've suffered enough.
6:00 is when they start talking about the writer being fired
*Captain Rey: Palpatine's New Galaxy*
At first I had a lighthearted thought of; “Good lord, they’re still planning on going ahead with this crap?”
Then you go ahead and hit me in the feels… we’ll always have Vespin.
Dark Forces, Tie Fighter, Desktop Adventures (lol), Battlefront…
All the good times I had with friends. Hell some of the first real books I read were EU stuff. SW had a place in so much of my childhood, but now it’s not even a blip on my radar outside of “How are they screwing it up this year…”
Please Disney just stop
StarWars sucks so hard no matter what they bring out I’ll never return to the franchise.
"an entire generation of kids that don't care" and two previous generations of "kids" who have had their "care" ripped from their souls.
I’m in the same boat as Kneon. Mickey has dragged his taint across Star Wars. I feel nothing for it anymore.
Just put a fork in this. This IP is done- & needs to stay down for a long time.
Star Wars will never heal under Disney’s ownership.
Bringing back Padme? But she died, she was sad and died, she was really really sad and died...from sadness
Wow…
…anyway…
she says 'scroll up' for _scroll down._ 😅 you _swipe up_ to _scroll down_ (assuming you're not using a mouse).
14:47 _"If George came back, current year George Lucas would give us something like Skeleton Crew."_
No he wouldn't. He'd give us something like _Red Tails._
It's over.
Disney watered down SW. Took it from the big screen to TV and gave us garbage tv
I'm so surprised!
I'm not the least bit surprised.
Im convinced KK was planted by Lucas as a F U to Disney.
Been saying this for years, he knew exactly what she was. His legacy is safe, she and Disney destroyed Star Wars
Major studios in general needs to stop announcing movie and television projects until they at least have the first trailer ready to go.
It's okay nothing of importance was lost.
Cheers!
Open your eyes, this is obviously by design.
Well it seems Kneon is at the same place I am with the Star Wars series. Its a lost cause.
Get rid of the producer and pull kennedy back from the process entirely. Writer should be ok.
1:30 Lucas put in the contract he signed to Disney that Kathleen Kennedy has full creative control until she removes herself from Lucas film!
I have said this before. George Lucas killed star wars!
The apathy for Star Wars is overwhelming.
Hang in there she might be working for their dei Star Wars till she is a 100.
Trilogy?! HOW?! Not even a single movie can be made with such a crap character let alone 3.
Honestly nothing will make me waste time watching that, but I will gladly listen to you guys talk about it because I like this channel
Really got me wanting to see a spin-off of Jyn Erso and her time with Saw Gerrera, or one with Chirrut & Baze
The Last Jedi - was what killed the sequel trilogy for me. Welp, found something else for you to whine about - biggly LOL
Solo - I actually watched this one hoping for another Rogue One.
Gramps in bathrobe with zappity-zap fingies, like, so powerful bruh. lmao
Disney then announces "...and we've got a crap-ton of MORE StarWars junk in the works..."
Me: "Oh wow, they really do think they've got a good thing going here - with zero clue just how cooked this Star Wars thing is."
Disney: "...only available on our channel..."
Me: "Wow. More straight-to-vhs ..er.. The Disney Channel, huh?"
Disney: "Not that one...Disney+, with additional monthly subscription charges..."
Me: ".............wooooow. Who comes up with this shit?"
Disney: "...also a Star Wars hotel...$2,000 a night (with minimum 3 night stay or whatever)"
Jordan: "Stop it...
This trilogy is not cooked because it fired another writer. It’s cooked because it’s the Rey trilogy.
Congrats, Bob, you killed a billion dollar franchise, and now we spend money on a zero profit tv show. Here's 10 million dollars for a job well done!
Just stop Disney, just stop. Rey is not a thing and it never will be. At this point, the only thing im still attached to for Star Wars is I still want to learn how to make a Nautolan mask/cosplay.
The last writer probably wasn't enough of an activist for Kennedy's taste, she needs someone more woke for their Star Wars trash machine.
Forget DEA Disney, almost everything you make related to Star Wars has been DOA.
Star Wars and Star Trek, I'd so dead to me that I'm trying to find a way to get the old UFO series among other old shows.
Disney: "May the Farce be with you. Always."
I'd say just scrap the whole thing and forget that it even existed.
Just wait until the Gina Carano lawsuit brings all KK's dirty email laundry into light. That's the only thing I am looking forward!
I think Kneon‘s comment about brand damage is spot on. Not only has Disney turned out a pile of crap, they‘ve changed everyone‘s opinion of the original trilogy too
Yeah, I think Lucasfilm will eventually be shutdown. They failed to get this millennial man in his 30s interested in Star Wars.
And having Mark Hamill or anyone from the original trilogy getting publicly or on social media getting angry or bitter with people doesn't help Disney's cause.
We knew it, but it all reminded us that These people will never be cool. Whatever they touch, they make it lame.
Many, many people over the decades have enjoyed Star Wars. Those people aren't "fans". Fans are those who red the books, played the games, etc.
It's easier for people to conceptualize Disney Star Wars never existing, if another Studio picks up the franchise and reboots it.
Wasn't this reported on before?
KK can't be fired because it was put into her contract by George
They need to sell it to someone who is actually a fan
There is no saving Star Wars. You are 100% correct!!!
Man oh man, things really flipped didn't they?
At this point, KKs got as much credibility as the youtubers who keep saying she’s gonna get fired soon.
The RUclipsrs have ALWAYS said that her contract is the thing that keeps her there, PLUS she has gotten a contract renewal relatively recently as well. Also, one has to consider that they don't have anyone willing to take over a flaming wreck.
@@sigmacademy Most of us who have written fan fiction could do a better job than her
I was too young to see Star Wars: A New Hope live, but I saw The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi along with The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith under Lucas.
Disney Star Wars movie in development hell, in other news, it rains a lot on England
KK: "You underestimate the power of my self-insert!"
Hang in there she might be working for their dei Star Wars till she is a 100.
They probably questioned why starwars is so gay
Doomcock covered the backstory of KK’s contract and why she can’t be fired a long time ago (maybe two years ago).
To be fair, Boba Fett was always more style than substance
Star Wars had a timeless story of heroism which while overdone and flawed at some parts remained genuine. Old fans kept it alive like my dad who was such a Darth Vader fan he immediately told my mom he needed an intricate lamp made of his helmet after I showed it to him. I laughed and treated the movie with more respect if it could get him that overjoyed... Disney killed all good faith. Glad my dad didn't have to see all of the sequel trilogy or know about The Acolyte.
This franchise needs to be put to sleep for at least 5 years.
KK’s Lucasfilm also destroyed Indiana Jones and Willow.
