The Addie Ron Dack cushions will be beautiful and your family will undoubtedly appreciate them.❤
I love the commentary as you both go along. Ian is your cheerleader, and biggest fan. You also forgot that you carried 10 babies, gave birth 10 times, and raised them all. And they're wonderful adults, who still think Mom and Dad can do anything and everything.😊❤ Tasks like this show just how much your children still look up to you both. ❤
"Quilters don't make cushions but mothers do." Nuff said! Y'all never fail to make me smile. I just finished my first cushion cover, but it was for my sister...'course if my sons asked I am POSITIVE that I would make one for them.
It came out great, don't be so hard on yourself. Once you get the 2nd one done , the rest will wiz by, You both are very comical. I had a good laugh. Thank you for sharing.
Oh Jean it’s gorgeous in my book. I’ve made TONS of outdoor cushions in my 53 years of marriage, all of which were/are VERY remedial. And a zipper!? I’d never even contemplate it. That puts you at a totally different level. Trust me, mine have all been BADLY made but virtually no 0ne ever noticed.. 😂. You and Ian are a hoot❤
And on top of it these will be used at a dusty smoky cabin site where dusty smoky guys will be spilling stuff on and wiping stuff on probably!! LOL! LOL! But what's a mother to do!?!?! LOL!
Hi Jean and Ian! You did great for your first cushion cover! I agree with you regarding the zipper, definitely have it all the way across especially since You have zipper by the yard! Thanks again for always sharing! You’re such a lovely couple! 😊
You guys always just crack me up! 😂 It’s so challenging to work on something like this w another person bc they can’t see inside your brain to understand what you are thinking, and vise versa! However, at least you cd hv some good laughs during the process and that helps relieve some of the frustration. 🤣😅 Well done and it looks fantastic! Please don’t worry about the minor imperfections. Remember one of the most important rules of quilting: If you can’t see it from the back of a galloping horse, then don’t worry about it because no one else will notice it either! We stress and stress about having perfect quilting on our quilts; but then once we wash it and start to use it, it’s all crinkly and we don’t even notice the quilting mistakes or whether it’s perfect or not! All that worry, and once it’s done, nobody pays any attention to that kind of stuff! Same with cushions; for ppl who don’t sew, all they’ll see are beautiful cushions that are so much more comfy and now their backside won’t hurt from sitting directly on the hard wood. And they’ll appreciate you for that. That’s where their focus will be. One thing I’ll share that might help: When I’ve had purchased cushions, in the past, they make the zipper panel go around both nearest corners for abt 3” beyond. That makes it much easier to get the cushion in. Also, wrapping plastic wrap around the cushion helps get it in easier too. Then you pull out the plastic wrap after it’s in. (Supposedly.) it’s what I’ve seen but not tried. (Ok, that’s 2 tips. 😁) Lastly, don’t be embarrassed by showing us your frustrations bc it helps us avoid many of the problems you encountered; so it’s all good! TFS. I have cushions to make soon also! 😱
I think it looks great! Being not quite so tight is probably a good thing! Now, every one you do will get a bit easier! By the time you finish, you will be making them in 30 minutes! Make sure Ian works with you all the way through, so maybe next time he won’t volunteer your time and talents! Funny video! I have felt that frustration before…but it has been quite a while back! Bless you!
To easily put a cushion into a cover, put it in a plastic bag, vacuum out all the air of the bag to compress the cushion, twist the top of the bag so you don’t let any air in, put the twisted side of the bag into the cushion first, slide the cushion in and then carefully remove the plastic bag.
I feel your frustration. That said. I think you're doing a great job!! (Ian, too!😉). I agree with the sentiment that quilters don't make cushions, but mom's do. We will do anything for our kids.
Dear Jean, I am a quilter who also has also sewed cushions. Please watch a video. I am so sure it will be very helpful. Loved watching you and Eon working together on this cushion! ❤
“And the two shall become one.” I agree with all the comments. United in family! If you’ve never seen the 1948 movie, “I Remember Mama” you all should. Irene Dunne plays Mama. Each member pulls together as one, through humor, growing pains, and every day life. Your post was so heartwarming to watch, and my sister and I laughed through it all, watching the love you share with each other and family shine through. ❤ Thank you for sharing.
Oh my goodness, I was laughing so hard. The meeting of the great minds. 😅 This is so adorable. ❤ I've been stuck making covers for my daughter's changing table pad. I made it like a slip cover.
Oh Jean. This takes me back a few years whenI retired and kindly offered to make my friend some window box seat cushions! I did in fact get my instructions from a Sailrite video on RUclips! ‘Box seat cushions’ My husband helped me too but I wouldn’t have liked to post a video of us😅. You’re a good team👍 Just remembered that we actually spray glued the liner onto the foam cushion!
One down....2 dozen more to go!!! Or at least it feels like it. The last five will be perfect. The story of our lives as mothers.........always trying to help our kids. When my oldest daughter was pregnant, we found ourselves being "carpet installers and house painters"....and my husband is a perfectionist... there was not much laughter while we did the job....but looking back now, we can laugh hysterically. So in a few years, you will look back and laugh. As young marrieds, we also removed a roof together and installed a new roof (of course to save money) -- and now 45 years later, we look back and laugh and can't believe we did it (and I can honestly say that 45 years later, I have never set foot on a roof again!) Your cushion making will be talked about and laughed about for years to come. Just remember to take breaks and not wear yourself out. Will be thinking of you. And thank you for the laughter.
You reminded me about the story my mother told me about her and mu dad removing the old roof and replacing it with new. At the end of the first day, my dad told her it was quitting time. She said, " NO!, we'll stay and finish the roof!" He told her it was time to go down. She refused again. It turns out that she didn't want to go down the ladder until she knew she didn't have to go back up. (Probably where I got my fear of heights.)
Oh my goodness, I absolutely loved this!! My husband and I commonly work on projects together! I think we make a very good team but I wonder what we sound like to others?!😀 You are very determined! If I’m being honest, I would have probably gone out and bought cushions!😂 I hope you have a lovely weekend! This definitely made my day!❤
Oh my stars! This is the best video ever! My sister and I do DIY project when she comes to visit. You two looked a lot like the two of us working together. I love it. And your cushion is marvelous. I probably would have gone out and priced cushions then cut all the tags off and handed them over to the boys!
Sweet Jean and Ian, may I suggest. Have the zipper go around the corners on the gusset and down the sides about 2 to 3 inches. It will be easier to get the cushion in. Stinkin kids do owe you big time. Hi Kids!! lol. Love to the Trueloves.
Jean - You and Ian showed and practiced such patience all through the trial and error of learning and assembling the seat cushion. You made a good team with laughing memories of perseverance through the process by cheering each other on. It turned out really nice and looks great! Hopefully, getting the first one assembled will make it easier to make the next round of cushion covers. If not, it may be advantageous to surprise your sons with store bought cushions. 😊
Jean, one suggestion = since you're dealing with zippers that you can cut to any length that you need you could make the zipper go around the corners about an inch or two and then it would be easier to insert the foam.
😂😂 what a fun video. Yes, there is just so much a Mom and Dad can do for the kiddos. Just think, in the future they will be doing this kind of for their kids😅😅, what a pay back
I would have you tubed on how to make a boxed cushion cover first that might have helped but great and funny to watch your interactions 😂I’m sure you will perfect it by number 8 or is it 16😂❤don’t forget your mantra reinforcing and again
Absolutely great funny entertainment! Oh my goodness what we do for our children. I would love to know how many times I have said to my daughter Lisa - “really?” Her reply is always-“ but Momma I’m your only child.” 😂
Oh you two make me laugh!! I think you did a great job! My husband had me make wing bags and an airplane cover for his giant RC airplane when I first started making quilts - what???? Oh my gosh I felt your frustration. 🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️
You two are hilarious together 😅oh my goodness, I wish I drove, I would meet you and help you with this. Almost as funny as you and Jen making snowflakes lol 😂
Hi Jean, you're given me the confidence to get my cushions covered & am going to sew along with you. While i was waiting for this video I checked out some websites (not as entertaining as you & Ian though) & came across one called Sailrite. Chap made it look so easy but if mine comes out half as good as yours, I'll be very happy.
lol you two are so cute!!! I laughed so hard at stapling the batting… when I made some cushions a couple years ago I had no idea at all what I was doing. I only wrapped a long piece of batting around the top and bottom but left the sides (without). That fabric (in my opinion) was kind of difficult to work with or maybe just different. I cut the fabric for the sides longer and the fabric for the back along with making the zipper long enough to curve ever so slightly. I turned the fabric sides (in the back) under, unstitched so I could tuck the zipper pull into it. They turned out very nice, I was pleasantly surprised and proud of myself as I don’t sew much and never thought I would attempt something like that! I can’t tell you how many times I measured lol and how long it took me to get up the nerve to even cut the fabric. Jean I’m amazed at how quickly you got your first one done (it must’ve been Ian’s help lol), they get easier as you go. I love how Ian is always cheering you on it’s sweet! ♥️Sandra
Hoorah for your and Ian. Ian is very encouraging and yes, they will love them. I surprised that you didn't get paper and make you a pattern to use for the rest of them. Take care and hope you have a great Thanksgiving.
Cover the batting with Saran Wrap and then the fabric cushion will go on smoothly. I have done it that way before. Lots easier. Good luck it looks great
love your video. maybe look at some you tube videos on how to make cushions. i think you do need extra width for the zipper. i hope your boys appreciate this!!
OMG. You did great! I laughed out loud. Hand stitch….NOOOOO….. Two things, if that cushion wasn’t so stiff, I think you could fold in half when pushing it in and let go once in side. Number 2, wait I forgot #2!😂😂😂🤦♀️. Oh you did such a professional cover! I would have used one piece of fabric and wrapped it around the cushion, like a pillow, sewed the two sides, sew on the zipper and then stuffed the cushion inside..Fantastic video. If it were my husband and me, it couldn’t be filmed*#*#!!! But I did learn from you two, laugh when working together,it makes working together much easier. Now for us to wallpaper tomorrow! Wish me (us) luck! 🙃😉
Ohh Sweet Jean & Ian😂 I'm not laughing at you believe me. 🎉🎉BRAVA KIDS YOU DID IT! Jean if you stop for a sec and look at the cushion like a bag. It will click. 😊 Its literally a bag! With box bottom and with side gussets the size of your cushions. Or with gussets all round. And if course the insert zip😉 And when all else fails jump to RUclips U. There are loads of of tutes🤗 But I'll be honest this makes for much more entertaining TV. I mean for the love of Pete.. ok the love of the kiddos😅😂 Hugs to you both! Again BRAVA🎉🎉
What we won't do for our children!😅 I get this all the time. Quilt makers may not make cushions, but MOMS do. 😅 I can't tell you how often I hem dresses, pants, sew buttons on my ex-husband's shirts...or one of my girls asking "do you know how to..." Of course I end up doing it, because that's what Mom does. Now, my ex-husband sent over a bunch of shirts that needed buttons sewn in place. I discovered that the reason the buttons had nothing to hold onto! I thought I could throw some interfacing under the fabric, but they're so thread bare that the fabric panel was coming off the shirt! I think if I hold onto them long enough, he'll forget about them, and I can throw them away. 😂
You don't staple or tape the dacron it will stick to itself. It's best to put the zipper on in the seam from corner to corner. You did good for your first time making a cushion, it's not easy I wish I was there to help you, my mom made custom drapes and pillows I helped her with the pillows.🎉❤
This type of cushion is not easy. In defense of your sons, they didn’t know any better. Family Love gets things done. You’ll laugh about this years from now. 😁❤️. The fact you made all those other cushions ( the red ones) they thought you could easily do these. The red ones were easy though - just stuffed with bed pillows and made envelope style. God bless the children !!! ❤️😁🌹
I think I would have just used fabric glue to add the Dacron or not bothered with it at all. Definitely do two square pieces and a strip around the edge then make two long thin pieces for the zipper and make the zipper come around the sides just a couple of inches so you can open the end completely. Does that make sense?
L O L. Just saw your heart comment on my comment. Auto correct cracked me up. Says I always cut my phone with an electric knife. L O L. That was supposed to be foam. L O L.
Before you put the cushion into it; take your body and fold it as close to in half as you can then stuff it in through the zip and it’ll pop open once it’s inside. Aren’t cushions fun….lol! Can’t stop laughing 🤣
Good job ! You could have made your job much easier by just using one big piece of fabric and then boxing the corners like you do a zippered pouch with boxed corners.ruclips.net/video/jo1Bqrga1Sk/видео.htmlsi=ha2UaFSvolz9od87You chose to do the more advanced version - well done👍😅 It was a joy to watch you two working together.
Jean do yourself a favor and watch some upholstery videos. I don’t think you really need to aggravate yourself by wrapping that foam. I’ve never seen an outdoor cushion that has that Dacron wrapped around it.
Jean and Ian you are beautiful together and can laugh at each other and with each other. Bless you both🙏🏻
One Parent of the Year Award!!!! Awesome job working together.

♥️Sandra
Seriously....we used STAPLES!?!?!? What...are we brain dead or something?!?! LOL! But we think we got the hang of things....watch this space!! LOL!
Oh boy did I laugh 😂 LOL good job guys ❤
Thanks so much:) We did have a laugh along the way:)
So you two are too cute for words! Watch a utube video on how to do it. Loved it when you told Ian not to yawn!
The YAWNS!!! STOP!!!! LOL! LOL! LOL!
Looks great! I gave up and made mine with the envelope vs the zip.
You took the easy route!!! US?!?! DUMMIES!!!
Hoorah for your and Ian. Ian is very encouraging and yes, they will love them. I surprised that you didn't get paper and make you a pattern to use for the rest of them. Take care and hope you have a great Thanksgiving.
I'm surprised I didn't get paper and make a pattern either!! LOL LOL! We certainly did it the hard way!!
May be too late but Sailrite has a you tube video on making outdoor box cushions. They make it look easy.
ADVISE AFTER the fact!! LOL LOL! We did watch...they make it look SO easy!! LOL!
Cover the batting with Saran Wrap and then the fabric cushion will go on smoothly. I have done it that way before. Lots easier. Good luck it looks great
Point taken!! Thanks so much:)
love your video. maybe look at some you tube videos on how to make cushions. i think you do need extra width for the zipper. i hope your boys appreciate this!!
Our next one will be MUCH better, I guarantee it!!! LOL! Oh the boys will...they are real sweethearts.
Yea....You would've thought I could have made it a bit easier!! NEXT ONE!!!
And if course the insert zip😉
And when all else fails jump to RUclips U. There are loads of of tutes🤗
But I'll be honest this makes for much more entertaining TV. I mean for the love of Pete.. ok the love of the kiddos😅😂
Hugs to you both! Again BRAVA🎉🎉
thanks for watching our mayhem Kathleen!!! Next time will be easier;)
Be sure to have your son that requested the cushions to watch this video so he will understand why you will never do that again.
Oh they will...they will!!! LOL~!
😅Sailrite have a good video on how to make cushion covers
I know......we watched AFTERWARDS!!! LOL!
You don't staple or tape the dacron it will stick to itself. It's best to put the zipper on in the seam from corner to corner. You did good for your first time making a cushion, it's not easy
I wish I was there to help you, my mom made custom drapes and pillows I helped her with the pillows.🎉❤
LOL!! The stapling!!! WTH!??!!? LOL! LOL!
You summed it up Stella!! Bless their hearts...(said sarcastically!) LOL! LOL! LOL!!!
Maybe glue spray that is used for batting instead of staple
Yes, we figured that!!! LOL! But only afterwards
Jean you should follow a pattern
I think I would have just used fabric glue to add the Dacron or not bothered with it at all. Definitely do two square pieces and a strip around the edge then make two long thin pieces for the zipper and make the zipper come around the sides just a couple of inches so you can open the end completely. Does that make sense?
Yea, complete sense. We certainly did the lllloooonnnnnngggggg version of how to do it!! LOL!
Baby lock Janomie and brother work together
Make a top, a bottom and add a width in between the two
Simple when you say it like that!! LOL~! LOL! LOL!
L O L. Just saw your heart comment on my comment. Auto correct cracked me up. Says I always cut my phone with an electric knife. L O L. That was supposed to be foam. L O L.
I figured that!! LOL!
Before you put the cushion into it; take your body and fold it as close to in half as you can then stuff it in through the zip and it’ll pop open once it’s inside. Aren’t cushions fun….lol! Can’t stop laughing 🤣
YOU can laugh....we were at each others' throats!!! LOL! LOL! Not really, we did have a giggle along the way:)
Jean stop being so critical about your cushion. It looks great.
Thanks Jacqueline:)
I KNOW!!! Why the heck didn't I think of that sooner!! I've made dozens of the boxed corner bags!!! NEXT TIME!!! LOL!
@jeantruelovetruelovequiltsfory 😁♥️
Jean do yourself a favor and watch some upholstery videos. I don’t think you really need to aggravate yourself by wrapping that foam. I’ve never seen an outdoor cushion that has that Dacron wrapped around it.
