  • Airfix Zero - A6m2b - Type 21 - 1/72 Plastic Scale Model Kit
An early model zero from Pearl Harbor/Midway. A really nice kit.
    Some additional notes:
I assumed these would be almost brand new at that stage of the war. So almost no weathering. The b model was an update on the folding wing tips which were increased.
For the pedantic, I did this as a straight Mitsubishi manufactured plane. The Nakajima planes have a turquoise-ish wheel bay. Called Aotake.
The actual colour was trial and error. But hemp and grey is the starting point. There are recipes around online. But you really need to experiment and find what works for you.

    About Modellers Workbench:
Run by me - Scott. Aimed primarily at plastic scale modelling, but I also do model with other materials. I do have a bit of a passion for Large Scale Planes in 1/32 but I also model Armour and Vehicles and well whatever else I feel like. I am also in the process of building an n scale model railroad layout so I enjoy modelling scenery and dioramas.
Expect to see Tamiya, Airfix, Trumpeter, Academy, HobbyBoss Walters and other scale plastic model kits. Build videos along with some tips and tricks I have picked up.
I have been modelling on and off for decades now, but got back into it seriously during lockdown.
Be patient with my editing and youTube skills - I am a learner :)
If you have any comments or questions I would love to hear from you!
    Scott

You did a fantastic job....l luv Airfix as well value of money 👍 and you get a pilot...them things on the alerons are counter balance weights i think

Yeah I hate to admit it but I still get a silly grin on my face opening up an Airfix box. These new ones are a long way from me stirring enamel paints with a matchstick on mums kitchen table - back in the olden days. They really are excellent and value for money. Counter balance weights, never thought of that but makes sense. Thanks!

As previoiusly suggested the aileron parts are possibly counterbalances. But my guess is they're the bellcranks. Counterbalances in that age of aeronautical engineering we most often on the bottom, raked forward with a teardrop weight on the front. Those don't look like that.

Thats cool. Thanks for that, I did go and look it up and while I couldn't find anything 100% I did zoom in on some real zero pics and it definitely looks like part of the control mechanism. I might try and put something in the community posts. You forced me to do some thinking. Thanks again!
