    As a beginner Hi-Fi enthusiast, my current speaker is Oberon 3 pair with Marantz amp. They are great speakers with wide sound stage. Somehow they are also excellent projecting female vocals and the treble is not very harsh as long as you don't do toe in. Bass is of course lacking since it's just a bookshelf speakers (but not bad for its size and price), so connect it with a sub for best full range frequency.

      I love this mini review, I do agree with most part, as some of those stuff I mentioned in my review. But most important thing is that you enjoy and satisfied with your speakers and HIFI setup, there is no bigger price than that when you listen to music.

    "...Dali is a host, an entertainer NOT a doctor. It is an artist maybe, but not a surrealist..." Brilliant writing and delivery sir...ty for this review...that is EXACTLY what Dali's are like. I have owned the Oberon 5's and in a week upgraded to the Oberon 7's because the 5's could not fill / detail in our family room. I bought them lightly used for half price and have not regretted. The 5's and the 7's share many sonic qualities and agree that the Oberon's are more emotional and less clinical. The midrange qualities of the 7s provide increased definition across the bottom of the top range and the top of the bottom range if that makes sense...while still mega warm and inviting, and all while covering a large space with a giant, enveloping soundstage.
    Jazz, electronica, rock, acoustic, and vocals - does not matter, both the 5 and 7 lines deliver an highly lively audiophile output. Could not agree with you more, they are so freaking fun and 6 ohm...so my amp is delivering more power to the 7's which can produce surprising results. Sorry so long...just loved the review and love my 7's.

    Hi, another excellent review based on your personal experience! Thank you for your honesty. I am planning to set up my first hi-fi with the oberon 5 which I like aesthetically. my question is which amplifier fits best? i am between Cambridge Audio CXA61, Arcam A5 and Musical Fidelity m2si. I had the opportunity to listen to only the Oberon 7 and 3 with the CXA61 and while I liked the 3, the 7 seemed annoyingly uncontrollable in the bass. I have a medium sized room and the music I listen to is rock, jazz, folk and trip hop.

    • @HIFIDaydreaming
      @HIFIDaydreaming  4 месяца назад +1

      Thank you man, those kind words mean a lot to me. Oberon 7 is a good speaker, it just requires care in positioning and paring. It's big body, woofer cones can punish room easily, to create big boomy bass. In that regard oberon 5 is so much easier to control. Honestly all this 3 are good choices and will work well with dalis. But i am thinking between music fidelity and cambridge audio, as they have more power than arcam. Music fidelity will make your sound more grounded and lower range more stronger, but cambridge audio is going to add more richness and details in mids. In your case i would go with cambridge audio, if will fit more genres you listen, except trip hop maybe. Watch my review of cambridge audio cxa61 on my chanel for more details.

    Is it worth changing Oberon 5 to 3? I heard bigger woofers are better handling a wall of intensive noise like metal, guitars and fast drums?

    • @HIFIDaydreaming
      @HIFIDaydreaming  4 месяца назад +1

      Are you asking me, which is better for metal? Bigger woofers have bigger mass that they are pushing out, but efficiency and sensitivity drops in comparison to smaller woofers. There is no, practical answer here, as it heavily depends of inner manufacture of speaker how well the sound is being controled through those woofers. But one thing is certain the bass that goes through woofers, that upper bass should sound bigger by default. As such dynamic range should be bigger but i don't know how well controled, maybe better. And unfortunately i don't recall testing this with metal so i can tell you by heart. I am sorry this is as much I can help you, I wish I could do more. But oberon 3 have same woofers as oberon 7. Oberon 7 might be what you are looking for.

    Thank you for another great review. I'm thinking of purchasing the Oberon 7s as I have a fairly large living room to fill. Other than having the "bigger" more dynamic sound, would you say the 7s have similar characteristics to the 5s? Are you aware of any downsides with the 7s?
    For an amp I'm considering the Arcam A15, Audiolab 7000a, NAD C 3050 or Rega Elex mk4... Arcam probably top of list. Any suggestions on these for partnering with the Oberon 7s?
    Many thanks, Pete

    • @HIFIDaydreaming
      @HIFIDaydreaming  4 месяца назад

      Hi Pete, Oberon 7 is unfortunately speakers I did not spend some time with. But what I can tell they have 7 inches woofers, same like Oberon 3, but two of them in a big body. They are supposed to push lot of air, and body should be more bigger and stronger. It kills bass wise both 3 and 5. Now as such a big unit, with a lot of mass and volume that it pushes out, it probably reflects more, it will punish your room more. It depends how you treat, or how much furniture you have and of what kind. But you have a big room, so there might not be a problem. Otherwise sound quality wise I don't know as I listen it only once for 10 minutes in audio store.
      Regarding partnering equipment, Arcam and Audiolab should go fine. I would probably go with Audiolab as it will help with enriching the midrange even more. I have limited experience with Nad, so I will not comment there. Rega Elex is a really great amp, but I don't think it will fit Dalies sound so well pairing wise. Rega will extract a lot of details, which will make Dalis far mor rich in treble in mids. But It might overflow the sound with information, as Dalis are also informative speakers. So unless you are in camp of those really detailed, very uped and from rhythmic sound it might not be the best pairing.

      Oberon 5 sounds better then Oberon 7 but oberon 7 can fill the room more easy. Oberon 5 with sub will be better then Oberon 7

    • @Pete-bo5dr

      Many thanks for your thoughts and suggestions. The room is an open living/dining/kitchen with various furniture. The main space is around 7x6m with the kitchen and dining areas to the back and side (around 3x3m each) so overall its quite big. I have Mordaunt Short Mezzo 2 bookshelves in there currently but they were bought many years ago when I had a much smaller room.
      My thinking was that larger floorstands would be better for the large space - do you think it's a little big for the Oberon 5s? I had also thought about using a sub as suggested by Santbak. Any other thoughts on the idea of using the 5s or even 3s with a sub vs the 7s?
      With the amps I was leaning to the arcam based on descriptions of the sound from your (and others) review. I like the idea of the punchier/fun sound of the arcam. In recommending the audiolab is it that you feel it would compliment the dalis better? Or even specifically the 7s?
      I have had a fairly brief listen to the audiolab 7000a and the arcam a5 (they didn't have the a15) in a shop with some acoustic energy floorstanders and felt the sound maybe had a bit more impact and control with the arcam compared to the audiolab, but like I say it was not a long listen.
      I should mention that I listen to a wide range of music. Some more bassy like jungle, house, hip hop, reggae but also more vocal driven soul, folk, folk-rock, alternative rock. Thanks again!

    • @HIFIDaydreaming
      @HIFIDaydreaming  4 месяца назад

      @@Pete-bo5dr I was thinking a lot a bout what @Santbak said, and maybe the best choice is to go with Oberon 5 and than sometimes in future add sub, but you might not even need sub in the end. For layout of your room, I do not recommend Oberon 3, as I think Oberon 5 will cover more ground and definitely would be a better choice for you. Also if you are into punchier lively sound choose Arcam over Audiolab, there is no question there.

      Maybe consider Oberon 7, for TV setup as bass is much more stronger than on Oberon 5. If it was for watching movies, series etc. Lintons are better match. Even with price difference. Now for listening music, I think Dali is better value, even thou Lintons do throw bigger soundstage, the price difference and characteristics difference I would prefer Dali Oberon 5.

    What about Yamaha a301 for these? Thanks

    • @HIFIDaydreaming
      @HIFIDaydreaming  4 месяца назад

      I personally never listened them together, but did separately. It should work together, as Yamaha has a bit darker sound, which should help with bass, making sound more weightier and defined. Now the sound will not be foreword or punchy I think, but Dali is rolled off to treble a little bit so it should hold on its own to remain exacting and upbeat. But just don't expect outmost rhythmical and detailed sound.

  • @Orpheuss62

    Hi.
    So in short: which one of them both are best: 3 or 5?

    • @HIFIDaydreaming
      @HIFIDaydreaming  4 месяца назад

      It depends from your needs.
      Starting from bookshelf vs tower speakers. Bookshelf speakers are easier to control and they will punish your room less. Sometimes lower bass can be too much for smaller rooms, even if 5 is relatively compact tower speaker. Imaging is tad better, and even a tad bit more clarity in 3s. But Dali have chosen the 7 inch woofer in Oberon 3, and that can emulate that firm and big bass from upper bass registry and in mids, even if it is a bookshelf speakers. But as it is more area that sound goes through, it is less precise and concise from Oberon 5 who has two 5 inches woofers. Oberon 5 just have more scope of feeling about where instruments are in space better, and more texture to them. Both are great with soundstage, and they image fantastically. Both have rich midrange, that makes listening music through them an "experience". I think Oberon 3 can integrate easier in any system and room, and you can adjust it easier. I personally prefer Oberon 5, but it can vary from person to person, as like with any speakers they expand and change depending in what room they are. Some people will prefer more clearer sound, and imaging of Oberon 3, to Oberon 5 who has bigger sound, with more defined bass with more details and textures in sound.
      I hope this helped! :)

      @@HIFIDaydreaming Thanks for the reply
      But, why are bookshelf speakers easier to control as long as the floor standing ones have higher sensitivity and the same fixed impedance??!!
      I also knew that the detail and clarity is generally better with speakers with smaller diameters, not larger ones.
      I've had Dali Zensor 3 and Zensor 1, with Zensor 1 everything was more detailed, clearer, Zensor 3 just excels in a little more bass, that's all.
      At the moment I have Dynaudio Emit 10, but I'm actually tired of the shelf speakers, I'd like to change, to see how the floor standing ones sound in my room, which is not big, it's only 14 square meters.
      Can you tell me how the Oberon 5 sounds at low or medium volume? because that's how I listen, at these volume levels, low/medium

    • @HIFIDaydreaming
      @HIFIDaydreaming  4 месяца назад

      @@Orpheuss62 i think there are two reasons for that, and most important is your room. As towers by default produce more air, and have bigger cabinets so bass and sound is bigger. Towers are more punishing for your room to get clear sound. It just reflects more, and as far as I know bass is a problem in a lot rooms, far more than highs. And there are also second point issues with crossovers, as bookshelf does not have to think about coupling of bass and treble, so much like towers.
      That is the reason i think your zensor 1 sounded more clear and detailed. It id just so much easier to accommodate smaller bookshelf speakers.
