I wish I had them just to hear how they would sound now that I know a bit more about how to approach a hifi setup.

    I've owned both the Zensor 1 and Oberon 3 speakers from DALI and while the Zensor 1 was a great speaker, the amount of punch and attack of the larger Oberon 3's is why I decided to trade in the smaller speakers. I have them paired to a Rega Brio (newest model) and Fluance RT-81 table with a AT 95E cart. These Oberon 3's have no issues filling a decent sized room at a low volume. DALI also specifically asks that you don't "toe-in" many of their speakers because they design them to disperse a wider sound than some other manufacturers. Very happy with my setup thus far. Happy Listening!

    My desktop system is powered by a Sansui AU-7500... bought a pair of DALI Zensor 3s to replace a pair of JMLab/Focals my kid stole to use with the tube amp we built... I digress...
    I hated the Zensors out of the box... they sounded like they had a sheet of cardboard in front of them... but the manual says 'break 'em in'... yaya, OK. So I'd keep them playing in the background, not paying that much attention.
    One day... I remember I was spinning Eric Clapton "461 Ocean Boulevard". And all of a sudden the cardboard was gone... vanished. Turned around and got myself properly sat and turned it up.
    And that was the day hate turned to love. Now a while in they're even smoother but tight... yes they will hit hard, to surprising chest-banging lows. Vocals are golden, and the highs have that lovely soft-dome twinkle, without being harsh.
    Very good stuff, and very reasonably priced imo. Listen and see... everyone's mileage varies.

I thank you in advance, before I purchased these speakers I did do a side by side of the 35XT's and the B&W 600 series and I liked the ML's due to the folded tweeter It was a cleaner, faster, and more true sound thank I had with the B&W's or my Polk Audio TSi200's. Interesting you start the review introducing the brand. I think out here they're well known = a bit of a 'staple' speaker. I'm unsure if that's in a good or not such a good way, as I've not really followed them.

Must be the taxes and free government funded university studies🙂. Danes rules in quality Hi-Fi area counted per Capita. I have the older entry level Dali Zensors 3, 1 and, Vokal run by a integrated Marantz AV reciver, a budget option with high wife approval factor. Skip the sound bars Sonos and Boses.

    Hi Steve, some of what you've said about the Dali Oberon sounds a bit like how people describe Dynaudios (not so much warmth, but pace and bass). How would you compare the sound of this to an equivalent Dynaudio speaker? Cheers.

    • @briang530
      @briang530 2 года назад +1

      Unsolicited response but I'd compare my Oberon 1s and Oberon 5s very favorably with my father's old Dynaudio towers for the relative price (I can't remember the specific Dynaudio model unfortunately). Very similar presentation and staging. The old Dyn 3 woofer towers have a bit more presence especially on the low and low-mid end, but are also much less forgiving than either of the Oberon models in terms of room acoustics and positioning.
      If you are familiar with and like Dynaudio sound from some years back (I can't speak to their current offerings), then you'll be right at home with Dali.

    Also, and this isn’t a criticism, more of an observation....
    I love this channel. A really in depth of all things that you do, yourself and what you think. That’s great
    But recently, although it’s something you have always done to a certain extent, you have started leaning more towards a music overview rather than a product “review”. I absolutely understand and get that an idea of the music and how it sounds and is recorded will give a much better insight to the way a product sounds, but I am in the market for these very speakers so was very excited to see you had done a review. But it was the speakers I wanted to hear about, not the music you were playing on them. I got a basic insight into the sound of the speaker but for me there is recently too much concentration on the music you’re playing. As I said, I understand but a less comprehensive and detailed look at the music would give more time for the actual in depth review. Leave the music overview in, but maybe keep it brief? Sorry to sound critical Steve. I love you and love this channel and keep up the awesome work. But as much as the music is absolutely integral to the product, maybe set a base line of at the start with what you are playing, why, what you’re playing it through and keep it brief so you can then get on with the juicy bit of of the review of the product itself. Of course, I am not the one doing this and have no inclination or idea to do it so you keep doing your thing!!! But just a mild observation, not necessarily criticism. I do hope it’s taken in the context it’s meant. Big kisses and hugs from a fan 🤗🤗

      @nostro1001 4 года назад +1

      @ John
      Your thoughts are interesting here and virtually mirror an earlier comment suggesting this was more of a music review than speaker review.
      I think the opposite. I was very interested in hearing and 'learning' about the music Steve made this speaker review with.
      Whilst I love audio gear, hence I'm here, my true passion is the music, with an enormous collection (vinyl, CD, digital).
      It really helps me to understand the sound of speakers on review when I know about the music. I actually made comment on this review based on the music in an earlier thread, as I felt the music selection was rather narrow. So, although I do have some 'mental' idea how these sound, I also thought the speakers may not have got a good overall 'workout'.
      After all many speakers can sound good with 1 type of music and somewhat lacking with another. So, if you asked me is this speaker a good all rounder based on this review, I'd really have little idea.
      I get time is of the essence as Steve makes daily videos, however I'd still like to know the music Steve is listening to and hope he covers a broad range of styles.
      Personality, I have a broad and typically eclectic taste in music. However, as 'viewers' you would assume there's a broad range of music listeners here also.
      I think Steve did well addressing the sound of the speakers based on the music he listened to. That would be the way I'd demo speakers. I'd take in some music I thought would give the speakers a fair workout and decide how they sounded. Similarly, if making comparisons I'd use the same albums/tracks, otherwise the comparison would be skewed to my ears with a different track playing through one set of speakers, with another track through another and so on.
      Interesting we have different thoughts here John. Cheers! 😃

      nostro1001 I actually agree with you on a large part of this. For me the music is the most important thing. I couldn’t agree more. Also some speakers are one dimensional and will be fantastic with bass heavy stuff for instance but shallow on nuances with other styles of music....and so on. You’re totally right. And I am definitely not saying Steve should stop the music overview at all. Not at all. In fact it gives a good indication of what he’s listening to to assess the speaker. I absolutely agree. But not all of us listen to the same music. It’s highly unlikely I would listen to the music that Steve had mentioned in this video, or any others for that matter as it’s not my style. But....to know how that music sounds and how it works the speaker is a good thing. For sure. So worth knowing
      But....
      It’s a speaker review. So for me, although it should be mentioned, briefly touching on how that record sounds etc, it’s become a little like it’s the main focus rather than the baseline from which to assess the speaker/component performance. If something says “speaker review”, it’s the speaker I want to hear about. The music gives me the idea and grounding for how it was tested but there was less in here about the speaker to only really gloss over it. That’s for me anyway.
      It’s interesting that some of his contemporary reviewers with which Steve is familiar with never mention the music yet give just as comprehensive and if not slightly more objective reviews on things. I LOVE that Steve stands out because he puts his own take on things and is so productive. It’s great. And knowing his take on his tastes and how they affect his thoughts on a product is great too. But I just felt the bias was sliding further away from the actual purpose of the video slightly.
      And yes, it really is interesting how everyone gets something different from this. Long may Steve continue though. Highly entertaining stuff

      I'm not sure if that works - I should have checked it prior. It's a link to a post 2 below or above by Joe Davenport (seems the order of posts change). Please have a look.
      Joe clearly agrees with your thoughts feeling it was more of a music review than speaker review. Steve's response was - "what more do you want, you also have the specs below the post." I also responded and questioned the narrow selection of music amongst other things. Steve is typically light on with words - either too busy, doesn't care, smart for not engaging, or really doesn't like being totally transparent. I really have no idea, nor does it perturb me either way. I think to some extent we 'know' Steve the reviewer.
      The audio world has changed dramatically in relatively recent times, with opportunities for discourse such as this, online forums etc, easy access to information and reviews, where previously there wasn't all that much out there: magazines, words from a salesman or at 'shows', perhaps clubs for the diehard enthusiasts - that really was about it. And now the public 'demands' more. Greater transparency I'd suggest is high on the agenda for many (I'm speaking generally, rather than specifically to here), greater detail, more objectively (which never seems possible as it's an individual's review) and so on.
      So, back to my initial thoughts, Steve's (in Joe Davenport's post) and mine, I guess, what more about this speaker could or should Steve have spoken about? My thoughts surrounded that of the narrow range of music Steve listened to and the time spent (which was undisclosed). Hence, only getting a feeling of what these speakers sounded like with that fairly limited range of music.
      By contrast, talking about how a speaker sounds without knowing the music seems rather pointless (to me). Hey, was it strong tight sub-bass on ACDC, Stravinksy or Travis Scott How did they handle those complex passages or do they sound 'alluring' cause it's one of those bland (to my ears) audiophile recordings? Yet throw at a speaker some electronic music and they no longer have that 'convivial' sound that may have been described. Etc!
      It's rather complex & given Steve presents daily he must surely have time constraints. This maybe a weakness here or at other times a strength. Who knows? :)
      Take care, enjoy the music and the audio gear. Ciao.

      Hey Steve,
      Whilst I don't think you missed anything as such and I do feel like I have a fair understanding of what they may sound like., what occurred to me is that your selection of music was rather narrow. Subsequently, I thought. If Steve just listed to portions of the said 4 albums or even the entirety of them, does that therefore mean you listened to the speakers for a total of ~3 hrs max? Moreover, was that listening time competed over a period of time or just within a day?
      I think what I'm asking is how you typically complete a review or more specifically this review on the basis others may differ? Thanks!

    Meh, all those loudspeaker companies making their entry level in China is for me a sign of lack of dedication to product.
    Outsourcing qualitative manufacturing to China isn't cheap at all they won't save much to the end customer. It is just that Chinese companies have tooling to make volume.
    So in the end , It is just sounds to me like lack of care of entry level from manufacturers.

    • @777jones
      @777jones 4 года назад

      Akorus interesting comment. So are they supposed to build a factory solely for the entry level in a place like Denmark? I think you are right that the tooling to make volume is an issue. Would it lead to better product? Is it possible that good quality can be from China? Just questions

    • @motorradmike
      @motorradmike 4 года назад +2

      Akorus, In the grand (non consumer) scheme of things, China is a poor international trading partner for most countries. Chinese manufacturing is, however, much cheaper for audio companies to pursue for a variety of reasons, one of which you mentioned; production capacity. Speaking for myself as an American, I am slowly but surely replacing my Chinese made audio gear to either US made products and / or made in counties politically and trade friendly to the US and western allied countries including Thailand, Taiwan, Japan and South Korea. We all must decide for ourselves what is MOST important; fair trade and geopolitically friendly vs the lowest price at all costs. There is always a “price” that will be paid at some point in time. This is just my personal opinion and conscience.

    • @akorus_master
      @akorus_master 4 года назад +3

      Allow me to reply:
      I think chinese manufacturing is absolutly fine, I am personnaly a fan of chinese homegrown electronics and I think the Chinese companie became extremly good at that
      Companies like Cayin or Audio GD are companies of people with real passion. And you can feel there is something beyond the "bang for the buck", real personnality and a audiophile vision. (That are now lacking to some western companies... take anything closely related to Harman or some Japanese electronic maker : no real care or passion anymore)
      What I criticize is outsourcing.
      Because in the end outsourcing is often the result of a lack of care.
      It is very possible to make entry level in house. I'll take some example of my own country:
      Focal isn't a big company but they are dedicated to making the most possible in house. Over the year they really shown dedication to product: developing both proprietary technologies and process to make in house.
      Davis acoustics is by all account a small company, less than 15 people and yet they manage to make all of their driver and assembly in house, and they are not some esoteric high end manufacturer : they start with 100 euros bookshelf and 200 euros floorstander made in France.
      Why is it possible to make in house for them but not the others?
      Knowing about thoses examples I cannot be kind to manufacturers who just outsource just to gain some flexibility.

    • @motorradmike
      @motorradmike 4 года назад +2

      Akorus, I very much agree on your points. There are / were outstanding Chinese proprietary audio companies that deserve the respect and popularity in the marketplace. Oppo comes to mind. The outsourcing many domestic (pick your country) manufacturers are resorting to is very dismaying. In the US there are several affordable audio manufacturers that steadfastly believe in in-house production and domestic content. Schiit, Zu, Tekton Design, the Klipsch heritage line, Ohm, Grado are among several others that somehow manage to not outsource and still seem to manage a profit and employ fellow countrymen. My primary bone of contention lies with the fact that in the majority of cases, the Chinese do not respect or honor intellectual and artistic property rights or design patents. They continue to have predatory and unfair trade and marketing practices. Lastly, China is an unfriendly geopolitical threat to its neighbors and western countries.

    This is hocus pocus. Music listening is totally subjective. At the same price level one brand may sound divine to one guy and garbage quality to another. And vice versa.
    Secondly Dali doesn’t need to be introduced to real audio fans. It’s a very respected brand even in a developing and relatively poor country where most of the people think a 250$ htb is the end of the world. Higher up the few- Bose.
    Dali logo is “ in admiration of music” and I think they just try to stick to that without being flamboyant
