    I think most people would use that for stripping wire because that’s what the notch on every other pair of wire cutters is for.

  • @fbswampfox
    @fbswampfox 6 месяцев назад +12

    I called their customer service. They confirmed it was a bad batch of wire cutters. The wire stripper doesn’t need to slice around the sheath of a wire. You dig it in and just pull. They confirmed that as well. For larger wires cut the sheath first with a knife then use the stripper to tug the sheath away.

    Lots of “complainers” out there saying this and that about these awesome tools at our disposal. I grew up in a 3rd world country and my handyman dad taught me alot about things and we had to make do with what we had with our wits and hand dexterity.

    I like my Leatherman Arc. The magnacut blade makes it very expensive. A dedicated magnacut knife is very expensive alone. I rather have the capabilities of a multitool than just a dedicated knife.

      @@ichipanx4064 yes. But for my new one (full black) i didnt bought regular cutters, but those for the EOD versions. Flat, no notch. I had to grind some material to fit. These cutters are better for zipties.

  • @randomescu

    The Arcgate draw my attention on my new Surge. And yes, its also flawed!
    I always wanted EoD Mut cutters, those with no notch at all. I ordered 2 sets from amazon and i equipped on both my Surges. Best cuttera for zipties! For really hard wires, Surge has another cutter behind the pliers head, anyway.
    It toke me 30-40 minutes to adapt the MUT cutters to Surges.

  • @titotips1412
    @titotips1412 13 дней назад

    It is designated as wire cutter but as people with engineering experience they would consider putting a wire stripper below the cutter to have faster work flow. Remember that not all wires have same copper content so the other wire stripper is for wires that you dont intend to cut. If you work as an electrician you know what I mean.

    • @human678
      @human678 6 дней назад

      You don't need to close it all the way for it to work and that way you can strip larger gauge wires.

  • @mattyvlietstra5017
    @mattyvlietstra5017 6 месяцев назад +2

    I still think they're intended to be that way for wire stripping. In use it's much easier to use the notch in the pliers than using the one on the other implement. Reason being you can cut the insulation then pull the insulation off with one motion

  • @macgyverbryan1377

    That could be for small diameter wires. It's more like a new design that is not so good for the wire cutters, I have an army and replace with the older style cutters without the gap.

  • @B-leafer
    @B-leafer 2 месяца назад

    So,
    When stripping wire, the "notch" or hole the wire passes through must be appropriate sized.
    With the leatherman tool, the "tool" designed as "the wire stripper" is only good for small wire. Not #12, #10 etc.
    If you open the jaws of the pliers, the "hole" between the cutter blades at the bottom enlarges to accommodate a larger diameter wire..
    I think that is what people (like me) are referring to the hole between the cutter blades as a "wire stripper".

    Thanks! My Garage #5 was the first that Leatherman I had seen these wire cutters. Unfortunately, my biggest gripe with them is no wire stripper
    I quite often would use the wire cutters on my charge tti+ or p2 as a wire stripper instead of the real wire strippers on the tools, so I wonder if LM redesigned them with that in mind for the #5 / Arc since maybe some other people use them like that too. 🤔
