Yep. Bought LCD-X in 2020. Was disappointed. Took a while to figure it was the quality of source. Went Tidal. Better. Now have a THX Onyx (no, not for mqa) off my 2013 Mac Pro. Very nice for movies too.
Listening to this with newly bought LCD-XC, percisely chosen for that sound isolation factor and a bit more detail coming back at you because of the closed design. Zeos is right, these are better on a lower volume. Listening them loud feels like a tough workout, nevermind the weight. But when I lowered the volume and started doing other things on the computer, I kinda forgot they exist on my head and was in this sweet-sweet place of being enveloped by the music and not feeling tired of listening to them after 5 songs. So, defenitely a good advice and a revelation about these cans.
Your first LCD-X review was what got me into headphones. I saved up for 6 months, bought the LCD-X creators package and never looked back. Originally running it off a dragonfly red and nothing else, I’ve since left college and upgraded to a stack of the LCD-X with hart cables, THX-789 amp and a RME-ADI 2 Dac FS. The most clean and punchy combo I’ve ever heard. Daft Punks Georgio Moroder blows your head off with clean punchy bass. Duel of the Fates rips your heart out with power and awe. Smilo and The Ghost eats away at your ears with folky details and string instrument separation beyond fathom. Bonus note: if you like shooting games like me, nothing beats the precision sound tracking on these bad Bois. It’s like a second set of eyes. This is the end all be all for me. I’ve stopped looking. I tried a lot of different things, but I’ve finally stopped looking. I’ve used them for years now, and they’re worn. I’ve changed the pads, I oil them weekly. When they die, I will have another pair. And then another.
@alan Mark K did u change the cable to balnace XLR? or the same 1/4 inch? if you still with the 1/4 inch do u feel the Hart cabes improve something?? I need new cables for my LCD-X
@@bluematrix5001 i changed to the Heart Audi Balanced XLR - it seems to give a little more headroom for sound extension, likely due to the availabliity of more power - or just that they're running on a different set of amps inside the DAC/AMP when running balanced. I also like XLR, so thats a plus :-) Either way you go, go with Heart audi cables - theyre fantastic with the interconnect system. Ive found myself testing out so many more playback methods because of having any connection available. You also look (pun intended) badass on the bus with your LCD-X and a FIIO BTR5 (Using the 2.5mm balanced)
Just a little bit of advice for anybody that has the lcd-x, the screws on the stock all you need to do is add some blue lock tight and they should be good to go for quite some time! My screws did come loose several times soon after my purchase, but since I added the lock tight they haven’t come loose once.
I'm sure someone else has said this somewhere (didn't take the time to look), but there's an easy fix for the screw problem on the yokes. For reference, I own the original LCD-X (from before the perforated leather strap era). Just put some thread locker on the screws. It's that simple. I will say you don't want to do this if you plan to swap yokes in the near future to the longer ones, but if you're certain you're keeping them the way they are, it's 100% worth it to avoid the hassle. I dealt with that problem for over a year before I'd had enough, and just hit them with the Loctite.
I prefer my TH900 over the lcd x. TH900 is just too much fun and doesn't compromise too much. At least for me. I didn't find the lcd x really standing out in any way imo.
I have the 2021 LCD-XC. I prefer to use them with the iFi Zen DAC+iFi Zen CAM pair with the CAM's bass boost and 3D switches enabled, which make the LCD-XC sound fantastic without any fatiguing harshness. I also have the Arya, which is my default headphone, but I will reach for the LCD-XC if I want a punchier, more aggressive sound (or if I need the benefit of a closed back for sound isolation).
Hi, I have the iFi‘s too. How are the vocals with the Audeze and this combo? Forward or laid back? How much Power need the Audeze, are you on 100%? Do you use 6,3mm or 4,4mm? Maybe I buy the Audeze, but 1,600€ in germany are quite much money. Btw: I‘ve the Ultrasone Edition 11 & Monoprice M1060C
@@LaVey1999 I recently got a 4.4 balanced cable from Audiophile Ninja, so I'm using that now. Vocals are forward. The 2021 LCD-XC have only 20 ohm impedance, so I set the CAM to 0db of gain and about 10-15% on the volume knob.
I got the same headphones as you! I went with Fiio k7 for desk and Fiio KA5 for taking the c out. Im using an iphone so no EQ nor bass boost with Fiio KA5. Do you find the xc to be needing a bass boost as well? I feel there is a bump in the upper bass that almost makes me feel I need something. Some tracks only! I do prefer the Arya stealth for most listening home but love the detail level of the lcd-xc.

@@soulfulfool All modern TVs are the same anyway, if you want a normal 4K LED television all brands pretty much deliver the same picture quality. Sound is way more subjective and no headphone sound alike, same goes for speakers
God the LCD-X, Ifi Zen DAC v2, Ifi Zen CAN and the Youkamoo 4.4mm male to 4.4mm male cable. The LCD-X is terrific. Improved music listening and anime watching.
I got the LCD XC , about 2 months ago. I produce music and I run them as reference with my barefoot 01’s . They’re awesome . A bit lacking in the highs. Still awesome

I upgraded from the 2C paired with the Pre Box S2 Digital and Zen Can Signature. To the XC paired with the RME ADI-2 FS. I'm selling my old DAC and Amp. Because now I've got one amp to rule them all, and one open back and one close back. And my soul has officially been cleansed, from the "I need better headphones" sickness. 2 headphones, for different mood and setting. I'm good now
I probably also gonna upgrade from 2C to XC, dont have speakers but I have legends like Focal Clear, Hifiman Arya, HD600 & more. Headphones are addicting but I love them cant help it, dont want to ❤

I own the lcd-x 2021 and I tested the Focal Clear in a shop the other day. I have to say, I was quite underwhelmed by the Focal Clear. The build quality just isn't their compared to the LCD-X and the sound is just .... not in the same league. But that just my opinion
That was me a week ago, I bought the original Clears since most reviews I've read/watched state them to be less warm than the MGs. My rationale is that you can snag them new before they're fully discontinued and then I will get the LCD-X afterwards. I also got the Elegia heavily discounted as a closed back hi-end (again, many people prefer these out of the newer Focals).
You may go with lcd xc and a good dac-amp and you will not hear any difference and pay less… Stellia is not hard to drive but it needs a very good quality dac or amp to sound the best
I started in this world thanks with HD58X and E30/L30 stack and after two years I decided to do a big jump. Just got this headphones and are the fucking best investment. I almost have my made in USA set, waiting balanced cable and the BF2 to stack with Jot2 and replace the E30. Thanks Zeos to show the way to happiness (without sell the baby xD)

I’d like to get the aftermarket balanced headphone cable but I’m postponing it because they are around $80. The standard cable is well made and should be good for now.
I have a pair of old LCD-X and I had to buy these pad glue packs like 2-3 times in row coz the pads would keep falling off every 3-6 months or something like that I got tired of that so I modded them to stay on with epoxy glue haven't fallen off for years now.. I won't buy new pair of Audeze until they fix this damn pad glue issue it's so stupid I need to use epoxy to make the damn pads stay on.

I put Red industial locktight on my audeze lcd-x screw to the headband, now i need to warm them to 350 Celcius ( 662 Fahrenheit) to loosen them ^^ Its solved my problem and i never to care about it getting loos EVER again :)
I've been looking for an upgrade to my pseudo-Argons (t50 mk3's that I modified myself) for a long time(been loving my fostex mk3's for 4 years, but ready to experience more). I went to the store and tried the lcd xc and was so confused because they were the best closed backs I've heard but you gave them a bad review. Little did I know they were the new version so I snatched them up. Can you reccomend a tube amp for these or an amp that makes it smooth and bass heavy

Equalizer APO with deep bass boost and Audezes EQ profile on their website. You will be in audiophile heaven for the rest of your life, cause almost nothing beats this stuff for the price.
Ok I bought your lcd-xc speech! thanks for making 50min of what looks like the worst video review the best I have found so far :) I have a tons of question and hope you will find the time to answer :) This is my first step into high end coming from Focal Bathys. I wants to be able to take my new headset in the bus and maybe work so a closed option was an easy choice after you stated the open back is almost as good the c. I am really curious about how much sound stage i will be missing going for xc instead of x! Given they are 20 Ohm what would you recommand as a dac? What is the best quality/price for a portable solution to use with phone. I tried some usb dongles in my local dealer and the price difference was linear with volume not sound quality (3 AUdioQuest dragonfly 100/200/300USD). is that it? Do I need another amp for home use as well or can I use one solution to do both? My use case is mainly listening to music, but as someone who studied sound engineering 15 years ago and has nothing to do with that field today, I might use them to produce eletronic music and also mix and master for fun! I am thinknig getting a high end headsett will push to get back to music production! I was poor last time I tried :)
Edit: My local store had a Sennheiser HD 820, LCD-XC and LCD-2. The experience of the cheapest option being the only open option blew the two other out the window. The XC sounded amazing and precise until I put the LCD-2 and felt I am getting What I liked from XC2 but a wider sound stage. The XC also felt a bit uncomfortable in some build ups (Electronic music/ Trentemøller: Take me into your skin) with me being really aware of the walls you are describing and the experience being too intimate for my untrained ears. While the lcd-2 make everything feel so natural. I am really curious what do you think and if you can listen to the song with both and tell me what do you think. The Sennheiser felt wider than the XC and again that sound stage of the lcd-2 is worth me dropping taking my new headphones to work and in the bus and just have that experience at home. I have unfortunately no option to try the lcd-x open, but any thoughts in LCD-X vs LCD-2?
I got an old set of the LCD-X for $700 used a few years back (OG headband, flat cable set). Not even sure if they have the fazor. Leather is starting to peel on the earpads. Going to rock them as long as I can because when I fix the earpads I'm sure I'm going to do the headband upgrade too. And I hear tell that Audeze wants to upgrade your drivers to match the new pads. And my cables are starting to separate from each other and be a spaghetti mess. I'm sure that's an expensive service when you put it all together.
Its not just with the LCD-X that the screw comes loose, On my LCD2C the right earcup screw kept on coming loose, seems like a common issue on the headphones, its a easy fix, but shouldnt be on this pricey of a headphone, or even the 2c
ZMF sell their pads to people who don't own ZMF headphones. They can even ship them from the uk these days, and now I have 3 pairs, at £60 per pair. I even recommend them to people.
First time when I heard my LCD 2C it was magic, my Arya is way better but my point is...planar headphones make a difference and I love it. LCD XC must join my collection but not carbon it must be wood 💎

@@WyattOShea bro you're a Wyatt too? I really like them, the soundstage is surprisingly wide for closed backs and it's tight af, especially mids and highs. The bass and subbass is perfectly filled in without overpowering everything. From a sonic perspective I really enjoy them. My only complaint is in comfort, at least for my head the rib a bit on the back of my ears and they are quite heavy. I'm probably going to pad swap to try and improve comfort soon

So what is different about the 2021 version of the open backs? Also which one is more linear to be used for mixing / mastering music? I'm looking for the best headphone to make music and hear it exactly as it was meant to be heard.
DT770s are really all you need for mixing. These are luxury. Most big studios have reference monitors or PA systems that the staff relies on. Not headphones. It was a hard pill for me to swallow too. Truth is artist and audiophile are two totally different markets.
@@dontron810 a lot of the top mixing/mastering engineers have these headphones. Cross referencing with them is a joy. DT770’s are great budget option but if you love music, X’s are an absolute joy to own for creating, mixing, and just listening.
LCD X and GX really lacks too much details in the treble - had to sell them. Fleetwood Mack´s "Oh Well" has a really sharp metallic guitar which is almost not there on these. They are too dark and warm in sound - seriously lacking in the treble. LCD X sound awful out of the box or on a iBasso Pro 4 dongle from the mobile. If you want to bring out the best in it you will need the ROON EQ dedicated to every single Audeze model then they start to sing. The bass and slam is the best I have heard

I own the lcd-x 2021 and I tested the Focal Clear in a shop the other day. I have to say, I was quite underwhelmed by the Focal Clear. The build quality just isn't their compared to the LCD-X and the sound is just .... not in the same league.
But that just my opinion

That was me a week ago, I bought the original Clears since most reviews I've read/watched state them to be less warm than the MGs.
My rationale is that you can snag them new before they're fully discontinued and then I will get the LCD-X afterwards. I also got the Elegia heavily discounted as a closed back hi-end (again, many people prefer these out of the newer Focals).

LCD-XC sounds incredible based on your video but, if you were to choose one LCD-XC or FOCAL STELLIA which one would it be?
You may go with lcd xc and a good dac-amp and you will not hear any difference and pay less… Stellia is not hard to drive but it needs a very good quality dac or amp to sound the best

I started in this world thanks with HD58X and E30/L30 stack and after two years I decided to do a big jump. Just got this headphones and are the fucking best investment. I almost have my made in USA set, waiting balanced cable and the BF2 to stack with Jot2 and replace the E30. Thanks Zeos to show the way to happiness (without sell the baby xD)

I’d like to get the aftermarket balanced headphone cable but I’m postponing it because they are around $80. The standard cable is well made and should be good for now.
I have a pair of old LCD-X and I had to buy these pad glue packs like 2-3 times in row coz the pads would keep falling off every 3-6 months or something like that I got tired of that so I modded them to stay on with epoxy glue haven't fallen off for years now.. I won't buy new pair of Audeze until they fix this damn pad glue issue it's so stupid I need to use epoxy to make the damn pads stay on.

Im going to start working (mixing audio for TV) from home in Sept/Oct. And have been looking at these as transparent, honest cans.. Also looking at the Neuman NDH 20's as I use the KH 120's at work, and have a par at home (but my space at home isn't treatable) I have a pair of 650s for now. But I like having multiple monitoring options.

I've got the LCD-X per your recommendation and I love them. I am looking for a closed back and was wondering how these stack up against the Ether Flow C's. I will be using them at my desk with a ifi Zen.

I put Red industial locktight on my audeze lcd-x screw to the headband, now i need to warm them to 350 Celcius ( 662 Fahrenheit) to loosen them ^^ Its solved my problem and i never to care about it getting loos EVER again :)

I went to the store and tried the lcd xc and was so confused because they were the best closed backs I've heard but you gave them a bad review. Little did I know they were the new version so I snatched them up. Can you reccomend a tube amp for these or an amp that makes it smooth and bass heavy

Equalizer APO with deep bass boost and Audezes EQ profile on their website. You will be in audiophile heaven for the rest of your life, cause almost nothing beats this stuff for the price.

Ok I bought your lcd-xc speech! thanks for making 50min of what looks like the worst video review the best I have found so far :) I have a tons of question and hope you will find the time to answer :) This is my first step into high end coming from Focal Bathys. I wants to be able to take my new headset in the bus and maybe work so a closed option was an easy choice after you stated the open back is almost as good the c. I am really curious about how much sound stage i will be missing going for xc instead of x! Given they are 20 Ohm what would you recommand as a dac? What is the best quality/price for a portable solution to use with phone. I tried some usb dongles in my local dealer and the price difference was linear with volume not sound quality (3 AUdioQuest dragonfly 100/200/300USD). is that it? Do I need another amp for home use as well or can I use one solution to do both? My use case is mainly listening to music, but as someone who studied sound engineering 15 years ago and has nothing to do with that field today, I might use them to produce eletronic music and also mix and master for fun! I am thinknig getting a high end headsett will push to get back to music production! I was poor last time I tried :)
Edit: My local store had a Sennheiser HD 820, LCD-XC and LCD-2. The experience of the cheapest option being the only open option blew the two other out the window. The XC sounded amazing and precise until I put the LCD-2 and felt I am getting What I liked from XC2 but a wider sound stage. The XC also felt a bit uncomfortable in some build ups (Electronic music/ Trentemøller: Take me into your skin) with me being really aware of the walls you are describing and the experience being too intimate for my untrained ears. While the lcd-2 make everything feel so natural. I am really curious what do you think and if you can listen to the song with both and tell me what do you think. The Sennheiser felt wider than the XC and again that sound stage of the lcd-2 is worth me dropping taking my new headphones to work and in the bus and just have that experience at home. I have unfortunately no option to try the lcd-x open, but any thoughts in LCD-X vs LCD-2?
I got an old set of the LCD-X for $700 used a few years back (OG headband, flat cable set). Not even sure if they have the fazor. Leather is starting to peel on the earpads. Going to rock them as long as I can because when I fix the earpads I'm sure I'm going to do the headband upgrade too. And I hear tell that Audeze wants to upgrade your drivers to match the new pads. And my cables are starting to separate from each other and be a spaghetti mess. I'm sure that's an expensive service when you put it all together.

Its not just with the LCD-X that the screw comes loose, On my LCD2C the right earcup screw kept on coming loose, seems like a common issue on the headphones, its a easy fix, but shouldnt be on this pricey of a headphone, or even the 2c

ZMF sell their pads to people who don't own ZMF headphones. They can even ship them from the uk these days, and now I have 3 pairs, at £60 per pair. I even recommend them to people.

the only complaint i have about my lcdx's would be gluing on the earpads. thankfully the entire construction is metal.

@@WyattOShea bro you're a Wyatt too? I really like them, the soundstage is surprisingly wide for closed backs and it's tight af, especially mids and highs. The bass and subbass is perfectly filled in without overpowering everything. From a sonic perspective I really enjoy them. My only complaint is in comfort, at least for my head the rib a bit on the back of my ears and they are quite heavy. I'm probably going to pad swap to try and improve comfort soon

DT770s are really all you need for mixing. These are luxury. Most big studios have reference monitors or PA systems that the staff relies on. Not headphones. It was a hard pill for me to swallow too. Truth is artist and audiophile are two totally different markets.
@@dontron810 a lot of the top mixing/mastering engineers have these headphones. Cross referencing with them is a joy. DT770’s are great budget option but if you love music, X’s are an absolute joy to own for creating, mixing, and just listening.
LCD X and GX really lacks too much details in the treble - had to sell them. Fleetwood Mack´s "Oh Well" has a really sharp metallic guitar which is almost not there on these. They are too dark and warm in sound - seriously lacking in the treble. LCD X sound awful out of the box or on a iBasso Pro 4 dongle from the mobile. If you want to bring out the best in it you will need the ROON EQ dedicated to every single Audeze model then they start to sing. The bass and slam is the best I have heard
