Any music sound best between midnight and 4am. Although it fucks up my whole sleep schedule, I can't help it. It just unequivocally sounds better. I have the OG Focal Clear and love them.
It gets even better if you keep on drinking huge amounts of alcohol during that time. In fact, you could buy $1400 worth of high-end drinks, and buy worthless $50 headphones… and they’d still sound brilliant.

The driver in the Focal Clear MG is made from Magnesium, and MG just happens to be the chemical symbol for Magnesium. The driver on the original Clear is composed of an aluminum/magnesium alloy. I believe the MG therefore stands for Magnesium, to show the difference between these headphones.

"Aggressive Detail" is so on point! I love the detail & soundstage of these cans, just wish they were more relaxed sounding - the energy level is high for my taste.
I don't care what the Celeste's sound like, they are so pretty and I want them.
As for listening: globally anytime the music matches mood relaxbeats for tired, dubstep for PvP, etc.
Drug of choice is single malt Scotch and new music I haven't heard. Trying to find all the flavors in the scotch and nuance in the music at the same time makes my brain happy.

I ended up returning mine because they didn't provide the sound signature that I wanted. They also had this weird clicking issue in the left driver that would come and go. Replicated the same thing with different amps and dac combos. I prefer soundstage / imaging over the admittedly superb mids these provide. If you're a vocal type of person, these are probably up there as the greatest for your needs to be honest. They're also built beautifully.

Just got them today. Without burning in simply amazing already. Have elex and these crush them in my opinion. Running them with RME adi 2 to singxer sa 1 balanced, but have tried with multiple dac amps and they are amazing.
I have elex as well now. Is it worth upgrading? What's the difference?
The only thing that’s burning in is your brain adjusting to the sound signature. Speaker burn in is a placebo effect.

I don't know about sounding better but when I drink and listen to music I need to blast it louder than usual because my hearing goes a bit dull. The Prodigy while drunk is definitely an experience.
Z.. if you had the elex would you consider upgrading to these? I really love the sound of the elex, it’s very good. if these are noticeably better I would definitely get these

Just got these in today. I can wholeheartedly agree that these are impressive headphones. Can't find a flaw in the sound. Imaging is insane. Detail is abundant and present without being painful.
The comment you made on the imaging and comparison to the AD2000X is what made me pull the trigger.

If they are great for gaming and movies even better. I want these bad now. The design is EXACTLY down my alley. Light-brown with a thunderstorm of texture everywhere. in my eyes from the first song I played. Everything was super involving
and wrapped around me like a vortex blanket. I didn't know something
existed with this much sparkle, insane mids and super punchy bass at the same time. Fairy dust meets sledge hammer. Just pure elation. Every song I played. They are truly a thing of beauty. Perfect fit for my large ears and big head is unheard of. I am deeply moved by the design and absolutely magical quality of sound. This is it. This is the one.

You still like them? Does the clipping happen when you turn the music up loud? Specifically, does the thumpy kick make it clip?

They are bloody amazing headphones i got them and they are good just plugged into laptop however plugged into arche amp they are next level.
@@jacksonville4932 they clip when the amp reach its limit. At first I thought they was broken, but is the way the headphones tell you that your amp reached the limits, Is actually a great way to understand if a particular track would clip in a real sound-system when is fully loud. I got the mg pro, for me they are the pinnacle of monitoring headphones, might be too clean for some people, but once you understand how the headphones think, it changes everything.
Do you prefer clear mg highes or the Sendy aiva highs? which is brighter?
How does the Focal Clear MG compare to the Beyerdynamic T1 3rd gen? I own the T1 currently and I am interested in this. This is a big jump in price so I expect this to be much better. I am currently using the chord mojo 2 with an audio quest cinnamon.

I hear the surrounding effects with both Focals I own and I explained the sound of a singers words that feel like are coming from my mouth and the music is all around me. I use the Elex and Elegia.

I totally agree that music sounds so much better when i'm tired at night. If it's around midnight and i've had a glass of Woodford Reserve, there is honestly nothing on this Earth that I would rather be doing.

Just for shits and giggles, I’d like to see Zoe’s review the Focal Listen Pro’s I’ve had em for a few months and love them but the biggest gripe I have is the headband is not comfortable, Dekoni nuggets are on their way.

They also sell these in dark grey/black with red padding on the inner headband and red pads. It’s a rather soft red. Not sure if I like the brown ones better 🤔

Hey Z , would we see any time soon a review of the Teenage Engineering M-1 Headphones? They look realy amazing on amazon and they are not expensive and i do think a lot of people going to buy them.
Listening to music fairly baked and slightly tired is the most amazing way to listen to a lot of songs in my experience
Gold label + clear MG might be the best combo of all time.
The cable never lays flat. That is honestly my biggest complaint. The cable is nice quality overall, but it's forever in your way. Just plan for an aftermarket cable and call it a day.

They really are pretty, but I don't normally like that color. I think they Elegias you just reviewed look better, at least as far as my personal taste goes. If they had ones that were more towards silver, not like that aluminum silver that literally everything that's made these days is, but maybe sort of a platinum or something, I think I'd like them even more. But I think they're probably better in person, and I'm sure they'd grow on me. Maybe if these go on a good sale sometime, they'll be my first 💎 headphones. I've been thinking about getting some Focals lately, but when I was looking, it was around the $6-900 range, not twice that. I do feel like I need something a bit more than these K701s to play off my DAC/amp that's worth like.. 3.5 of them.
Honestly, I don't really drink and listen enough to say in that regard. I do know that time you're mentioning though, where you're dead tired and know you need to be sleeping, and it's just like "okay, I'll stop after this song... But this sounds so good too! Alright, ooone more."

Exhausted, Kirkland (Rum str8, vodka oj, or martini, tequila (silver better) sunrise or margarita on rocks ) or Makers Mark Str8 with an ice ball. No lights on.
If you don't like these in brown the Clear Pro MG sound the same but are black with red accents and pads & have a slightly different accessory pack.

I own these headphones and I personally find them currently the best BY FAR for my personal preferences in terms of the sound signature (and I really had a lot of headphones). I am looking now a while for a closed back headphone alternative for mobile usage which sound close to the focal clear mg, but I cannot find any :( They sound so gorgeuous "warm" with a spectacular amount if micro details.

I am considering the older Focal Clear (original), have you heard them? Also, the Radiance is on my short list. I would like to move freely with them so I am considering the IFI Go bar Dac/Amp. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Like EDM and pretty much any genre.
@user-jq6iq3mh9x The Focal Radiance are amazing. They have rich bass with pretty good mids. The highs don't get to the point of being harsh. They just sound so smooth. The Celestee are way more forward in their sound delivery. Drums hit you in the face and the crash of cymbals sounds good.

Listen to music when younger on valium, then LSD but the drug that changed music for ever was DMT. But now I Listen to music straight and mostly at night time for hours before sleep.
I ended up buying a set of Elegia, but run them with just the hip dac from IFI after watching many reviews, but after your hip dac review it sold me, got to love the bass boost.
Now time to save to get some open backs and probably go Focal again, just found them comfortable on my fat head 🤘😈🎶
Consider yourself lucky. Focals are designed fro wide heads. My head is narrow and Focal headphones have hardly any clamp. I have Dekoni Sheepskin Elites on my Elegia and it helps with the fit and luckily doesn’t change the tuning much at all.

If you like edm and game lcd x is pretty good. I had them, but it is heavy, and wearing them for long periods of time is not comfortable, at least for me.
Hi i've been looking at the Focal clear mg and im thinking about maybe buying them but i have a question. I currently have DT 1990 pro from beyerdynamic paired with dacamp Fostex HP-A4BL. Will my current amp be enough to run the focal clear mg and if not which dacamp should i go for within a 5-600 dollar range?. I play alot of shooter games like overwatch, warzone etc and listen to alot of music as well.
the clear mg is not very hard to drive at all, you should be fine!

They sound really great but didn’t at first out of the box. They need burning in at 85 db for about 24 hrs before use.

Thank you for your insightful review. The Focal Clear MG's provide a very good listening experience. How do they sound, well the best comparison is they sound like a McIntosh amp. Slightly warm, full, wonderful clarity, mids are very detailed, and the bass is punchy and full; exactly what I want in great headphones. The one negative thing is the high end is not as open and detailed as I want it to be. To compensate, I boost the treble by 2 db on my preamp which helps boost the top end to a more satisfying experience. I found its not possible for headphones to do everything excellent regardless of price. The higher end headphones do provide better drivers and components to hear additional detail and provide a proper bass that sounds solid and clear with min distortion. They are very comfortable to wear as well for long period of time.
Best looking Headphone out right now for sure.
Also yes, when I'm almost nodding off and absolutely dead tired, music sounds the best to me with headphones.

It's weird that Z didn't like the original Clears. They supposedly sound very very similar.
He had a tube amp with a very high output impedance which boosted the bass, called them open-back Beats or something.

The best headphones i ever had where sennheiser hd 660s but i ended up getting Focal Clear MGs and honestly they are the most beautiful sounding headphones i have ever tried. The holographic imagery is amazing the sound stage is perfect for me, the bass is nice and smooth, the voices are so clear and realistic, i just feel the music way more than i ever have before, i could say more but i will not be to do them Justice so if anybody gets the chance definitely give them a go.
I agree. Despite some negative reviews, I just love these, still love ‘em after half a year and I haven’t had the urge to try anything else. I do wonder though: can I get even more out of these cans? Using an iFi Neo IDSD which has more than enough power to drive these.. but still.. Topping A90… what would that do? :)
I actually recently bought the mg pro black and red version(am hearing it is the same as mg) and am coming from the hd660s… what the mg like compared to the hd660s in terms of sound quality?

When I'm just about to sleep and put on whatever headphone's just besides me the music just sounds best (lately the Focal Clear MG Pro, which is the most expensive headphone I'll ever buy, before those the Blessing2:Dusk). Those headphones made me come to work late twice! because I stayed up listening to songs.
