“I don’t want sunbursts or marble halls, I just want you”. That line has stayed with me for 35-years and that scene is still one of my all time favourite scenes.
I'm till so proud to say as a Canadian that this was produced in my country and to this day is considered the BEST out of all the ANNE Of GREEN GABLES series or movies done!
Karen Linda Kostin Yes, I would feel the same if I were Canadian! The books and series are wonderful and such a fond part of my childhood. PE Island sounds wonderful too! Much respect to Canada,
Gil fell in love and STAYED in love with Anne for 15 years, even after he proposed and she rejected him, even when she was going out with Roy, even when everyone thought he and Christine were engaged. Lord help me, I pray to find a man like this!! 😍😍😍😍
I love Johnathan's expression after he hugs Anne. He completely captures Gil's feeling of at last she is mine. Although in the books he proposes one last time at a garden Anne finds with the girls from Avonle and one she met at Redmond.
Christina Mussared Yep me too! Ever since Gil, I always felt a fondness for guys with dark hair and light eyes. Sigh. One of my favorite memories of childhood. :)
I think being in love with Gilbert was required for any girl watching this! I was about seven or eight when I fell in love with him and he seemed impossibly old, but now I'm 35 and realize how very young he looks. :-( It's also sad that the actor died so young.
@@carolyndobry785 - Do you have ANY idea how inappropriate you are to bring that into this conversation??? Did it provide you with some kind of perverse satisfaction??? Knowing how we all love Gilbert and Anne (FICTIONAL characters!!) and you have to bring this crap into the scenario??? I hope you're satisfied with yourself. You are one ugly soul.
Well, this takes place in the third book, and by season 2, Anne with an E is still not through with the first book, plus, the actors aren't even close to the ages these characters would have to be for this scene. I'm sure it will come eventually, but at the rate the show is moving at, it won't be for a long while. I'm wondering if they're going to skip forward or something because I can't imagine the show will have enough seasons to make it to this point if they continue at the pace things are going.
The entire cast was born and meant for their respective roles, even all of the crew, team and staff of this Anne of Green Gables production and project. It's one of the creations and projects in the world where it went beyond, and it was something truly special - everything came together and lined-up perfectly, a gift from up above. This one is forever in the historic vaults, not just for the finished product, Canadian culture but also for its standard and level both for Canada and world cinema and literature of course.
Honestly I sometimes wish I lived in this time, because it was so beautiful and natural, and they had clean air and bright days with stary nights, and gentlemen like Gilbert who would actually treat a girl right, would respect her and get respect back. It entrants me and it's so beautiful. Edit: So a lot of people are attacking me for basically either being uneducated or thinking men suck. Listen, I'm really not trying to offend anyone here. I know that times were horribly rough back then. I'm not stupid. I don't think all men are pieces of shit. Alright? Please, I just wanted to post a soft comment. I really wasn't expecting this much hate, and I'm trying my best to respond to the comments to extend my point of view. A few were unnecessarily rude. If you're going to state your opinion/facts, don't be rude about it, or you lose all respect. Many comments gave me their side very respectfully, and I responded to the best of my ability. I know things were very hard back then, and I know there was racism, homophobia, and tons more. And no, I am NOT white. There was absolutely no reason for that. I was not expecting this at all, and I apologize for offending anyone. Okay, so this is my last edit on this comment. I've decided to leave the rest up for anyone who comes across this and wants to understand what this apology means. When I wrote this comment, it meant something dear to me. But I have since realized I was wrong in not addressing the other half. Once I began getting more comments, I panicked, because I wasn't quite sure what to do. So I want to apologize to whoever this has offended. I realize the pain and suffering many went through in those times. The words I had been looking for in the previous edits, but hadn't yet put my finger on, are these: 'vintage style, not vintage values'. I should have mentioned this sooner, and instead I made it a problem. So I am sorry. I acted childishly, and I regret it now. This comment has been in my thoughts for the past few nights, and I wanted to address it, because it needed to be addressed. As a person of colour, a woman, and someone who belongs to the LGBTQ+ community (all three of which were oppressed and had many rights taken away in these times), I made a mistake. So, once again, I am sorry. Have a nice day.
Yep and no medicine, so you died from any infection, and you couldn't go anywhere because of transportation, and women were expected to stay at home and have children if they survived the labour that is.

One of my favorite scenes. Perfect couple & best acting from 2 very talented actors. No replacing Megan & Jonathon for these iconic characters, for me.😊
the 2016 version is great, i loved it. i think that sticking on one version is not the best idea couse then you would possibly miss something really good. I think Anne with an e is a really great serie and the actors are really great, it deserevs a chance! :)
Yes Anne with an E is such a joy to watch! I actually hate it when people are like "no one can replace" obviously no one can BE the actors, but the actors for Anne with an E do a phenomenal job- and they're so young.
Such a romantic proposal! I pray my daughter finds a Gilbert who respects her for who she is, loves her unconditionally, and supports the gifts that she has to offer :)
I'm sorry but their chemistry is superior. It's natural, simple and believable. I've never found a better Gilbert and Anne than these two. They will be forever the Gilbert and Anne i will imagine when i read the books. Love them with all my heart❤

I'm a millennial kid to the T. I grew up watching Power Rangers, Ninja Turtles, Pokemon & the birth of the internet age. But When Anne of Green Gables & Avonlea came on, you couldn't move me with a forklift if you tried. They were shown on the Disney Channel in the states & those shows were some of the best parts of my childhood. They sparked my love of historical dramas & antiques! I couldn't wait to watch them after school & I never missed a showing of AOGG. Unfortunately for OTHER kids, not many watched, so it felt like something special just for me whenever I saw the shows. I connected with fellow viewers as I got older. When my son is old enough, I'm going to show him everything! My hope is to one day visit Canada & see all of these beautiful places in person!
That is so wonderful! Thank you for commenting. It's great to hear about how Anne and Avonlea touched people. We hope your son enjoys it when he is old enough to watch! :)
Agreed! My mom introduced me to the books when I was young, fell in love with them and the series. They will forever hold a special place in my heart. I still don’t think I’ve ever come across such unforgettable characters, beautiful locations. Children’s and YA’s books and shows today don’t come near the sweetness of these productions in terms of innocence and the transition to adulthood.
That's been one of my biggest issues with the Netflix version. I felt like I was watching a mashup of AoGG with Oliver Twist. The sweetness and innocence of these characters in these books and the 1985 adaptation is what makes them so endearing, as opposed to the grittier version of the characters in the Netflix version. It's an OK version, just not the one I'd recommend for first-time viewers of the show since it's gone so far of script as far as the source material. I'm well aware that modern YA audiences don't flock to "sweet and innocent" the way they might have 20+ years ago, and I feel that is to their detriment.
I fell in love with Gillbert. From a trouble maker young schoolboy to an excellent mature man was the best change. He was sweet throughout the whole series, but many times he followed Anne around and didn't leave even when she wanted him to. True love and OH MY GOODNESS GILL I LOVE YOU 😭😭😭❤
Jonathan Crombie was so breathtakingly handsome. Right up until the end. He was perfect. He is the ONLY Gilbert there will EVER be. I refuse to watch any other adaptation of AOGG because these are the only true AOGG movies. With the best of the best actors. Why did Jonathan have to die?? it’s so sad and unfair. He was such a beautiful man 💗
KT Kerr I think you should give Anne with an e a try..it’s honestly beautiful, you can love both..Anne with an E is an adaptation so it’s someone else’s views and it’s honestly really good..there’s nothing wrong with liking both
dont listen to them i didnt watch AWAE because ive been stuck on these movies but its perfect for me since im a 15 year old youre not being close minded at all
This movie gilded my childhood and inspired my imagination so much!... In my opinion, Megan Follows ISSS Anne Shirley ... This scene still touches my heart and brings tears to my eyes, even though I've seen it at least fifty times ... It is romance in its' purest form and true love...
The hug was more moving than the kiss, it was like so much passed between them in a moment of feeling. Their friendship just reached a new milestone and they both knew it. I want to know what it feels like to be hugged 😌 I also love that the acting back then was raw and heartfelt, no trashy acting or editing to make it over-the-top flawless or glamorous. Just pure and sweet.
I am rereading the books after a half century and they are as good as I remembered them. This version of the movies is still the best and I can feel my mom beside me laughing and crying in the same spots. 🥰💕❤️👍👍
My favorite part of the whole series. Eveytime I watch this scene, I cry and cry. I just love the story of how smitten Gilbert was with Anne from the beginning of the series and to when Anne realized how much she loved him. 😍😢
I just bought the Kevin Sullivan 4 movie restoration set. Watched this last night. These movies are INCREDIBLE You live the story with them.. The look on GIL's face says it all.. I miss this INNOCENCE. I don't care what anyone says. This is INNOCENCE, ROMANCE, PURITY, and TRUE LOVE .. RARE and to be CHERISHED
I'm so impressed that Gilbert is driving the geese before him at 0:10. Geese are crazy aggressive, having him just nonchalantly stroll along herding them is another subtle hint that he's a secret badass.
wormwoodpearl1 I love your comment! :) I never thought of that but that’s really cool. Yeah, he *is* badass. He’s a superhero to me. We miss you Jonathan !
These two mini series and Road to Avonlea are so beautiful, sweet, down to earth, intelligent, high quality and perfectly executed and truly authentic to the extraordinary books.
Erielle Tiburcio I dont think the Netflix show will be running long enough to do a kissing scene honestly. Unless they speed it way up and put it in season 2 somehow
syz·y·gy I just feel like people dint appreciate it enough. I hope it runs long but sadly actors get older and underappriciation from people get in the way. Season 2 just came out and the ending of it gives me hope because it seemed unfinished so I believe season 3 will come at least
KLT. I remember watching the entire series on PBS, broadcast. I watched it with my widowed mother when I was still single. Mom and dad are both gone now. It is a fine work, and a good memory. KLT
RIP Jonathan Crombie. I still remember rushing home from figure skating to see these movies on CBC (each movie aired in two parts). Everyone left early the night the second half aired. I loved Gilbert from the age of nine onwards.
I'm planning to binge Anne with an e but this movie will always hold a special place in my heart. I remember the times I spent in grade school poring over the books and falling in love with this Anne and Gilbert on screen. Thank you for these precious memories.
This makes me bawl. I watched this as a teenager during the summer holidays and watching it now many many years later it still has the same effect. I am reading Anne of Green Gables to my daughter at the moment and it feels like a rite of passage.
My mom read me the entire Anne of Green Gables Series at night when I was a child. Absolutely loved the books, even when they moved onto her children growing up. These movies definitely captured the true essence of Anne, something I don't think any other show will.
Whenever I watch these movies I always think Anne was in love with Gilbert but denied it multiple times. I absolutely love this scene it's so romantic and sweet!
Gilbert Blythe. ❤ He knew he was inlove with her from the moment she broke the slate on his head. And he stayed inlove and waited and waited for her. He made great deal of efforts just to be her friend but he was constantly rejected by Anne much because of her pride. Gilbert even gave up Avonlea school because he knew what it meant to Anne to stay at Green Gables. When he finally became her friend, he never crossed the line but he never missed an opportunity to express that he deeply cares for her. And then he proposed and got rejected again. Despite that, he tried his best to remain by her side even if it's just as a friend. 💔 I am so glad how Gilbert's character was written with so much sincerity -- he didn't come off as that "prince charming type in a white horse" rather he was that simple guy friend who was and stayed in love for that one girl and waited patiently til she realized her feelings. And thank goodness L.M. Montgomery made Anne come to her senses before it is really too late. Or else I would've never recovered from being heartbroken by Gilbert Blythe. 🙈😭. To anyone reading this, I sincerely hope you find your own "Gilbert Blythe" or perhaps, your own "Anne Shirley". Just wait patiently, it'll happen in God's perfect time. ❤🙏
Came to watch this today because my daughter and I were talking about it and remembering when we watched the series together years ago. There will never be anything this good, the nostagia is overwhelming.
Have a long, close look at Gilbert when he cuddles her at 2:25...the way he just absorbs her, after so much has happened...he's finally and absolutely with the girl he has adored from the very beginning. It is the happiest moment in his life. "Finally, she's in my arms..." I feel genuinely happy for him, for both of them. To find such a love...so beautiful.
When I read the books and then watched these series it was exactly like I imagined Anne to be. This will always be the unspoiled by modern agendas version I cherish. The other ones can't really hold a candle to it.
Since they kiss here I hope they kiss in “Anne with an E” If there is a S3 because it didn’t happen in S2! After all the series was inspired by this movie soooo I’m still waiting...
I’m so blessed tHat I was partly raised in my aunt’s house where she always replayed Anne of Green Gables for me whenever I wanted to watch it even though it was a classic
The way their love bloomed was amazing.... I remember reading the books and I thought they would never be but they some how some way found their way back to each other ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Johnathon passed away from a brain aneurysm (pretty sure that was what I read happened) but his family donated his organs and he lives on in I think 8 people. It's absolutely what Dr. Gilbert would have wanted if he were real. Still, so so sad that sweet Johnathon is gone. I also read that after the Anne movies he surprised Megan at a play she was in and took her to dinner. 💙 💜

The look on Gil's face when they kiss then hug! I bet he was thinking "She loves me!"
he's thinking FINALLY I've got the girl! I love in the scarlet fever (typhoid in the book) scene where he goes, "your the only one for me" #swoon
I always imagined he thought: "Halleluja girl! You sure made me sweat for this but it was worth it!" 😆
He probably thought that, ( she does love me) an I do have something to live for-(her) I have to have her!!

This movie gilded my childhood and inspired my imagination so much!... In my opinion, Megan Follows ISSS Anne Shirley ... This scene still touches my heart and brings tears to my eyes, even though I've seen it at least fifty times ... It is romance in its' purest form and true love...
Sai dirmi il titolo🙏?
These movies were my favorite as a young girl and I love them still. I watch them at least once a year.
The hug was more moving than the kiss, it was like so much passed between them in a moment of feeling. Their friendship just reached a new milestone and they both knew it.
I want to know what it feels like to be hugged 😌
I also love that the acting back then was raw and heartfelt, no trashy acting or editing to make it over-the-top flawless or glamorous. Just pure and sweet.
I wrote a letter to Jonathan Crombie more than 20 years ago because I had a huge crush on him lol. Rest in peace Jonathan.
I am rereading the books after a half century and they are as good as I remembered them. This version of the movies is still the best and I can feel my mom beside me laughing and crying in the same spots. 🥰💕❤️👍👍
RIP our Gilbert. This guy died like 5 years ago. So sad!!! I grew up watching these movies.
I have so much affection for this movie that i purchased a poster of that bridge scene. Cant put it in words how much i loved this.😢
Where oh where did you find it?
Miss Priss just google aogg poster/ merchandise xxx
What is the name of the movie
2018 Editz Anne of green gables
There could never possibly be any other version for me other than this one. RIP Gill.
Watched this movie more than 10 times and it never gets old. Love Gil and Anne❤️.
Rest in peace Jonathan........
Maximillian R. That is so truth i can't believe it that he is gone.
U mean that actor is johnathan what happened to him? How'd he die?
@@valshelby7307 He died as a result of a cerebral hemorrhage.
Ditto. One of my childhood crushes for so long... was very sad to hear of his passing. ;(
Gilbert's ears are so red when they are kissing!! He is so Gilbert without any doubt. I love this drama.
I'm so impressed that Gilbert is driving the geese before him at 0:10. Geese are crazy aggressive, having him just nonchalantly stroll along herding them is another subtle hint that he's a secret badass.

I love your comment! :)
I never thought of that but that’s really cool. Yeah, he *is* badass. He’s a superhero to me. We miss you Jonathan !
Best best best! Still gets me teary every time, it's the music! Love. :)
ALLLLLL THE OTHER ANNE SERIES CANNOT COMPARE WITH MEGAN FOLLOWS & JONATHAN CROMBIE....
this is the best !!!
My favourite adaptation!
These two mini series and Road to Avonlea are so beautiful, sweet, down to earth, intelligent, high quality and perfectly executed and truly authentic to the extraordinary books.
To me this version is the favorite one. Miss them.
Anne of Green Gables: BEST movies EVER made; Avonlea: BEST series EVER made!!! MY FAVORITES, as a child, and even still, evermore.
They were blushing. I love it
Still love this lovely story - miss you Gilbert (Jonathan Crombie) 🌹🌹🌹
Kissing scene! kissing scene! in anne with an e!
Erielle Tiburcio I dont think the Netflix show will be running long enough to do a kissing scene honestly. Unless they speed it way up and put it in season 2 somehow
But I love the idea
Mary Larson YESSS
Why don't you think the show will be running long on Netflix?
syz·y·gy I just feel like people dint appreciate it enough. I hope it runs long but sadly actors get older and underappriciation from people get in the way. Season 2 just came out and the ending of it gives me hope because it seemed unfinished so I believe season 3 will come at least
One of the best scenes ever!!!
He holds her in such an endearing way after he kisses her oh Man I wish I wish...
After over 30 years it still causes a lump in my throat everytime I watch it.
I really love this version of Anne.
KLT. I remember watching the entire series on PBS, broadcast. I watched it with my widowed mother when I was still single. Mom and dad are both gone now.
It is a fine work, and a good memory. KLT
This has to be the best ending to a series. love it!
That's amazing! Hope she likes it :) If you want to give her an Anne-themed gift, check out our official merchandise: shopatsullivan.com
@@sullivanentertainment But do you ship to the U.K? Now that is the question...
"I don't want sunbursts or marble halls, I just want you."
My mom read me the entire Anne of Green Gables Series at night when I was a child. Absolutely loved the books, even when they moved onto her children growing up. These movies definitely captured the true essence of Anne, something I don't think any other show will.
At last!!! She accepted that She always loved Gilbert 😍🤗
Whenever I watch these movies I always think Anne was in love with Gilbert but denied it multiple times. I absolutely love this scene it's so romantic and sweet!
Will always be best acting and best cast. Netflix can try but this version is way too beautiful
did you watch Anne With An E? I personally thought the acting, especially Amybeth's, was fantastic!
Somehow brings on Nostalgia even though we live in different times now.
@@viktoriyaIstoriya exactly.
This is the only Anne of green gables version for me
Gilbert Blythe.
Best ever version of Anne and Gilbert 🤗🤗❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
The sweetest most romantic scene in any movie ever😭🥰💚
Came to watch this today because my daughter and I were talking about it and remembering when we watched the series together years ago. There will never be anything this good, the nostagia is overwhelming.
Anne and Gilbert are the perfect couple. This is my favorite scene in the movie.
The most romantic scene. I love it. Anne, next time Gilbert proposes to you, please say YES.
Two beautiful, beautiful hearts, beautiful scenery, ad beautiful kiss. Thank u
I’m mad about its music, this series is very memorable for me ❤️❤️
When I read the books and then watched these series it was exactly like I imagined Anne to be. This will always be the unspoiled by modern agendas version I cherish. The other ones can't really hold a candle to it.
Since they kiss here I hope they kiss in “Anne with an E”
If there is a S3 because it didn’t happen in S2! After all the series was inspired by this movie soooo I’m still waiting...
Ivana The banana they probably won't since the new show is liberal. Will probably make Anne be a single woman
Season 3 is coming soon!
I really hope it too 😍😅😢
Pearl the rebel No the author said that since aymbeth (idk how to spell her name) is turning 17, they are gonna put more romantic scenes in awae
I hope so 2
I’m so blessed tHat I was partly raised in my aunt’s house where she always replayed Anne of Green Gables for me whenever I wanted to watch it even though it was a classic
The way their love bloomed was amazing.... I remember reading the books and I thought they would never be but they some how some way found their way back to each other ❤️❤️❤️❤️
I can’t 😭😭😭♥️such beauty was made in this !!!!!
RIP Jonathan
*Gilbert comes around the corner*
well shine Marilla's three bushels, bye
Gilbert was a the definition of a true gentleman not too many of those around these days :) #anneandgilbertforever
Oh my gosh, now I have to go rewatch these movies. They were so good.
Remake this story all you like but nothing is going to replace this beautifully done Megan and Jonathan movie!
One of my early crush - Megan Follows, she was perfect as Anne...my favourite scene! Owh the song is sooo heartbreaking
Their kiss makes me so giddy but jealous at the same time
I love Anne and Gilbert so much . They’re so cute
R.I.P Gil you had a short but beautiful life
i grew up on this film, loving the romance and friendship. lovers can be friends too. i wish real life was like this
Johnathon passed away from a brain aneurysm (pretty sure that was what I read happened) but his family donated his organs and he lives on in I think 8 people. It's absolutely what Dr. Gilbert would have wanted if he were real. Still, so so sad that sweet Johnathon is gone. I also read that after the Anne movies he surprised Megan at a play she was in and took her to dinner. 💙 💜
