I grew up with an N64 in like 2002 and have been thinking of getting another one, but instead I recently got a PS2 and a crt TV to play what I missed. Got all the Metal Gear games and a few ps1 FF games since they're my biggest blind spots and holy hell man, 40 hrs into FF7 I haven't had a game make me feel this way since Twilight Princess on the wii. A world that I don't want to leave and am incredibly excited to keep exploring. Not super relevant to the video but it hit me pretty hard listening to Tifa's theme on the way home today. Great video man

Thanks! FF7 is one of the best games I’ve ever played, enjoy it! As far as N64 goes if you have a Switch the online service is worth getting just for the n64 games

@@HolyGrailGaming funnily enough, I do have nso, and I even bought the n64 controller lol. Felt strange holding it since the last time I held one I was probably no more than 10 years old

This is one of my favourite videos that you have made. The points about using time wisely, in your entertainment, as life gets busier with other things, is true in so many ways. The observations at the end about the point of view of a child versus an adult being reflected in the game play make a lot of sense.
    Well done.

Eh, there's loads of games you've missed. I mean, if the rule is just it's a SNES [or N64] game genuinely worth playing today and it has to be on Switch, then Super Mario World should be on there one bazillion percent, as just one example. I mean, that game is nigh-on perfect and still arguably the pinnacle of the Super Mario platforming games, arguably the pinnale for all platforming games, and even arguably at or very near the pinnacle of all games ever. There's many others too that I would absolutely include, but I won't list them all here.

Feel free to list them! I just listed the ones that I really do believe still hold up. And for some reason I’ve just never been much of a mario fan 😔

@@HolyGrailGaming Well, here are some I would say that even if released today would still be 100% up there with the best indie/retro [style] games available (irrespective of there being other/newer games in the series, alternative versions on other systems, or similar modern games, etc):
      Super Mario World
      Super Mario All-Stars
      Yoshi's Island
      F-Zero
      A Link to the Past
      Wild Guns
Super Punch-Out!! (so long as you don't have an issue with the stereotypes--I don't)
      Panel De Pon
I mean, this isn't a list of the best games you could ever play (although arguably it is in some cases), but if you just want to sit down and play some genuinely great games that are nothing but pure unadulterated joy, and you're specifically hankering for something created when the world of gaming was just genuinely simpler and more pure, I think you can't go wrong with any of the SNES titles above.
For what they are, I feel like these titles are kinda timeless and will be just as great to pick up and play in even another 50 years too--so long as you [the royal you] can think of the pixel art as literally a legit art style in its own right rather than a technical limitation that only belongs in the past and can only be appreciated [or not as the case may be] through that lens.
For N64, I unfortunately think those first-gen 3D graphics often just don't hold up, even through some kind of "artistic" lens, and similarly with some of the controls, so most of its games simply don't stand the test of time imo, despite some of them still being great to play once you get into them.

I'm doing a release order Zelda playthrough, but I like alternating between 2D and 3D titles to separate the experiences in my memory. I need a 3D title to play inbetween aLttP and LA, would you recommend Dark Souls I, Metroid Prime or some other title? I recall that you strongly recommend each in earlier videos.

I personally always try to only play one sword swing action/adventure game at a time because if I try playing multiple I get the controls mixed up (ie I’ll start trying to use dark souls controls while playing any 3D zelda), so I would recommend Metroid Prime or a good turn based RPG of some sort. Good luck doing the playthrough!

@@HolyGrailGaming I didn't consider any turn based RPGs. I haven't played chrono trigger yet, maybe that will be good between OoT and MM.

Replace FFIII with FFII. I played both and love FFII. 🤷‍♂️

FF2 in North America was FF4 right? Because I’m playing the real FF2 right now and it’s pretty awful hahaha

@@HolyGrailGaming Yeah, just about nobody likes 2. 4 is good for its time and 6 is a timeless masterpiece imo.
