  • A 7,400 BTU Emerson Quiet Kool window air conditioner I picked up for ‪@TheAirConditionerGuy‬. I suspect this is a later model as it utilizes a Matsushita rotary compressor. It does have the Watt Watcher branding and features constant run and automatic fan settings.
    Model number 7JJ7E-A
    7,400 BTU cooling capacity
    R-22 Refrigerant (unknown amount)
    7.5 Amps
    840 Watts
    8.8 EER
The previous owner of the machine who sold it to me spoke very highly of it. I'm not sure what the history behind this unit is but he definitely wasn't the original owner -- the machine is older than him. There is very little rust and dirt accumulated on the condenser, and only a season or two of heavy use accumulated on the filter. This would lead me to believe it's a relatively low hours unit, but it does seem like this has been in a window for many years as the EKQ tag has faded signifiantly.
The machine performed very well during the test, providing upwards of a 30 degree temperature delta once the head pressure came up. It ran very quiet.

The coil is so clean because none of the air was getting past the disgusting filter 🤣

This unit looks great! Thank you! These are built insanely well, my childhood one has the same rotary, its a later model from 1989 or so with the later style grille, but its got some insane hours on it, and definitely needs new compressor mounts. Always worked well, and would freeze the room out. This unit here id say is 1982-1983ish, excellent quality. The compressor may not have run in awhile, which could be the cause of the excessive noise in the beginning. Im glad you got to see why i like these so much. EQK and Fedders are my go to!

I remember having something like this in the home I grew up in. 1985 construction and the previous owners installed the window unit into the wall. For some reason they installed it in the kitchen and den portion of the house. I would have done it in the living room and dining room which was the center of the house. Our bedrooms would get so hot in the summer we eventually got a 5000 btu window unit that kept it around 75 during heat waves and when the sun was hitting our bedroom full blast in San Diego. My dad finally took out the old unit in the wall and put a makeshift adapter for the much smaller 6000 btu LG unit. The exterior shell is still there and it helps hold up the new one.

Such an immaculate piece of equipment! It may be power hungry but it's doing something with all those watts at its disposal!

Great unit. I love how they put that grille on the back of tbe condenser coil. Adds protection and thats why the coil is in such great shape. Looks as if this unit was not used as much on the cooling side due to the lack of corrosion and rust, may of been operated in the fan only mode instead of the cooling mode. Great little unit and is fairly small in physical size for a 7000 btu unit. Howevef i have a 8000 btu 1978 whilrlpool eindow unit that is a tad smaller in size than yours here. Also has a recip compressor. Great units these are.

That’s a excellent window ac. It has a very nice sound.I’ve been thinking lately to swap out my 2023 ge window ac for a 90s kenmore with r22. I’m sick in tired of digital window ac!

Even for just a quick bench test, the filter should've been washed first. It is painful to see it running with a clogged filter.
