This is the best video ever, my wife and I just bought a home and want to save a few thousand you really broke this down…..off to Menards and Home Depot I go!
I was just going to say that you should have used Aggregate (decomposed granite) fill. The decomposed granite with a sand mix is by far the best base for artificial turf as well as pavers. Evenly spread out the granite and tamp it down really good. Then spread a light level of sand on top and tamp again. You want the top level of the base to be as smooth as possible making sure that there are no rocks or debris on the tamped surface. If using landscape rock it will have little voids and gaps in-between the individual rock even after tamping.
Is my plan ok for my small 12x60 area please? 4' of road stone, stone dust on top and leave about 1' below the surface of my nearby pavers so the grass will be level when applied? I will have a 2x4 wood border put around all sides to hold all in place so nothing bleeds off and stays contained and I am having a landscape/construction company do this as they have the backhoe and tamper machine along with many people to do the bulk prep. Then I can lay down the turf and nail and glue it all and I should only have 1 small seem as my area is already 12'' wide. Not sure how much and how often I need to apply infil? I am in NJ USA if that helps with climate? I have 2 med dogs and zero traffic besides them, is this a good choice for product from Lowes? Any other tips please like weed mat, or putting down Ground Clear before putting any base etc down to prevent vegetation? Lots of shall etc in this area.
I live in a town home and have a concrete alleyway I would like to cover with artificial turf. QUESTION: Can I apply this directly over top of the concrete or do I need to break up the concrete, remove and lay down a aggregate base surface? My concern / next question is regarding mold and build up. If I do lay it over top of the concrete, will I have an issue with mold developing underneath the grass or pooling water? Right now, the water does NOT pool in the alleyway on the concrete but I want to make sure adding a turf layer does not create an unseen mold issue.
I inherited a property with a small sloped garden with artificial grass. The grass is sloped and at the bottom stops against a sleeper along with the rainwater. How can I diy this plz buddy ?
Great educational videos. Any tips for drainage? For artificial grass specifically, would the drain opening be flush to the grass (exposed) or below it in the base rock ( concealed)? Is it a problem to have stragnant water in the base rocks for days. My soil isnt very permeable. Thanks much
Professionally installed is around 10$ a square foot, for a DIY project as the one you saw in this video I highly don’t recommend. The prep was great, the instal wasn’t so good per say
@@johnnyhernandez5539 what wasn’t good about the install?I noticed in the video that there seemed to be something off about the grass almost like it’s loose or has pockets that stand up. Is that what you are talking about. What did he do wrong?
Nice for your first time. I would use "dense grade" under the turf. It's a fine gravel that can be compacted. One benefit of doing a square yard like that is not having to do a seem!. I understand the idea of making it more square around the house but there's many tricks so that you don't need to cut the lawn. Ig @jpavaorealestate
I am an horticulturist based in Nigeria, Africa. I deal with natural grass and flowers and I love the artificial turf and will like to learn it as additional knowledge. It would be highly appreciated if you can you help me out.
I have artificial grass on my front lawn and back and it stays green and perfect no mowing or watering My dog runs around on it no dead grass from pee no dead spots.
@Skankhunt 42 no it’s not it’s irrelevant it’s not even comparable artificial grass has something called drainage system underneath the grass into the gravel
Weed barrier is not recommend if you have pets that will use the turf as a potty area. This is with most turf manufacturers if you read the manufacturer installation manual.

great job for a first time DIY artificial grass installation. Im trying to install one too. thanks for sharing your experience.
When through the exact same scenario! Looks great good job!
Great Job. My crew missed adding glue for seams. Any thoughts or alternatives?.
A good video and well discussed procedure. A lot better than most I've seen.
Yes use DG atleast 3” not only for compact but gives a better cushion on grass.

Awesome video, thanks bro. My kids have a nice yard now!
The F bomb got me… I did learn something… I’m paying someone to do it for me 😂😂😂
Lol same here
Super thumbs up. Great job.
Thanks for the video
Great video, I was planning on tackling my 50sqm area, but after seeing this.... I think I'll rather just hire a professional. LOL
My only concern is clogging over time and water wont drain at some point and any wrinkles that would show up ?? The rest looks solid

Great video very informative. Hope you don't mind if I share it with our online shoppers.
Thanks for the video. I was thinking crushed gravel as the base under the turf.
What about placing this on a hill. We have a very sloped yard and cannot grow anything there. We are considering this.
This is why you call a professional
No. If you want to get completely hosed, call a pro for easy work like this. I saved $15k doing it myself in 4 days.
How did u maintain in rainy season??
Around the hard edges, how high is the sub base level compared to the edge itself?
Thanks
Aside from the wait what is the purpose of the smart fill?

I love my SYNLawn!
my yard already has soft sand on, can I just buy thick turf and put it on top and nail it?
Yes
@@elca2475 you are ignorant
What ground plate contractor is that?
is Decomposed granite the same thing as Stone dust or would it be similar to a 7mm clear chip?
DG is crushed granite fines that allows you to finish and shape the top layer to your desired specifications either flat or sloped.

I’d excavate it out and bring in class 5 for a base. Drain tile if the sub base is really unstable
Beautiful..
Have you done indoor lawn installation? I'm thinking of converting a small warehouse to artificial grass surface and am curious about the base layer.
Nice job, it looks great. Im thinking to do this myself but i dont know the dimensions of the turf. what are the dimensions of the roll?
Rain time what can do
I love it, but how much did it cost?
Does anyone have issues with dogs still pooping on these lawns ? How do they price it ? Square footage of the yard ?

How to clean up dog pee or poop on synthetic lawn? Just pick it up and hose it down?
Yes the grass has drainage for pet urine and yes all the time my dog poops I pick it up when it’s wet I hose it down
After the compacted base I would have screeded the area with 1" of #8 stone
What kind did you use?

The last 2" of your base should be 3/8 inch clean
I am not getting Turf infill sand. From India.
I think it’s nicer when some natural bumps and dips are added
you forgot the weed barrier
Weed barrier is not recommend if you have pets that will use the turf as a potty area. This is with most turf manufacturers if you read the manufacturer installation manual.
Just use a string line to level it out much easier and faster
Where’s the sand and membrane??
Love My SYNLawn!!!!! #SYNAUGUSTINE
So how is it with dogs toileting on it as far as urine?
Yikes. Cleaning leaves and other tree debris would be a nightmare
How can you avoid static electricity in turf
You are right, this is not a one man job.
go bills
to many wrinkles
Qué mal hechura...todo mal...error tras error...seguro salió tablas...no profit for sure
End all artificial grass. Anyone who uses it is just terrible lazy garbage human
Pros and cons
