How to make a Bacardi style Rum in your own home
A DELICIOUS RUM! thank you so much
Just spent the last hour watching your vodka making video (thats my tipple) and loving it! Might aswell learn about Rum too!
let me know how it goes
Love the vids man if you ever have time can you get back to them because im just getting into making home brews for myself and your vids are really helpful to the process and great to watch
Love the video .. thanks
If you heat the jars in the microwave it is easier to get the molasses out. No extra water needed. Does not need to be HOT, just warm enough to pour the syrup out. It is what I do when I have to use molasses.
Make sure you are not stupid and leave the metal lit on the jars
The Moonshiner for life!! Love your videos..
thank you Jason
Definitely gonna give this a try ....keep up the good work..... decent/ informative video thanks
+Doug B you very welcom
love the video
your welcome Shayne, glad you enjoyed
My family made corn liquor and beer for generations. Alcohol was illegal in Southern states until around 1967. You explain things very clearly, and have an excellent set of methods. Sure beats going to jail for moon shining, as have my predecessors. Still illegal, but thinking about giving it a try - very small and quietly.
soz about the red face lol bit hot under the lights, and a few glasses of shine :)
It looks like someone punched you in the face.
Is this a kit that I can get online?
Naah...looks like you had a bar brawl😀😀
Plss mention all things that is used to produce rum
Any Lager or beer videos coming up , I made the vodka turned out great thanks million 👍🏻
Nice one.
nice gunna give this one a go
+Alistair Tadema let me know how it goes Alistair
Please make a video of the New still if you can... if not, a few still Still fotos would be grand.
Great videos, well explained and managed with multi camera angles.
Top work...!!😍😎
Thank you, great job. :)
thank you
thanks dude.im produceing a really nice product.
Thanks moonshiner, that was very inspiring, I am a beginner to this. Do you recommend keeping the tails for the rum or just the same as vodka, no tails? And secondly, how long do you recommend for resting it with oak cubes? Cheers
*WHY IS THE RUM GONE?*
Hey, really enjoying your videos! Are you going to be making anymore?
The Moonshiner! Thx for great videos! Im about to start w rum, but there is not many choices of molasses in my country... Does Blackstrap Organic will work same good as regular?
Sick bracelet
Can you do a video on whiskey with barely and the turbo yeast
Can you add the turbo carbon later on in the fermentation process?
just curious what the turbo carbon actually does ? i make rum too i use fleishmans bread yeast I find it works a tad better than turbo yeasts . 1 large spoonful per gallon .FYI using water from the faucet has chlorine and fluoride in it ,that chlorine hurts your yeast FYI I boil my mash in a 5 gal pot and let it cool .this get rid of the chlorine in the water.
Moonshine...take me to the starts tonight....
Big fan of coconut rum, do we just add coconut shavings to the mash or should I infuse it after the rum is finished?
we used this recipie but fermented the mash for 3 weeks and got one gallon of 95 proof rum
Almost strong enough to be flammable.
so the longer you ferment it the stronger it is?
After using turbo clear on my bacardi rum. Should it go a clear colour because some rums are different?
I'm wondering, what impurities does the carbon remove? Other htan using carbon, this is the same process I use to make my rum, but I use cheesecloth and a liquid transfer pump to filter my wash. Wasnt sure if the carbon removed more or not. Always looking for ways to improve my rums
You should keep making videos. Loved the vodka one. May try this. I see you havent uploaded one in months, you should keep adding them.
I defiantly will be, I've been doing some major renovations on my house plus building a new still. But now I'm all finished and ready to make the next video
The Moonshiner Awesome! i look forward to it!
The Moonshiner After the rum ferments after 3 weeks what more do I have to do ? Thanks
@@TheMoonshiner01
Where are you man, we miss your videos.
but really good work on the videos.
Molasses is best handled as hot as possible, then it pours. Dissolve it in hot water then add cool water to the required temperature.
Can I use soft light brown sugar as thats all I could get from my tesco??? Or would soft dark brown sugar be better to use????
What would you recommend for a bacardi 151 taste??
Awesome video!
MMMMM yummy chlorinated water yummmmmmmmm
Mate brilliant ABC cool video I'm doing it lol 🌍💚✌☝️
did it work ???
I always boil my water & add my sugar to be used later. In every jug I’ve got 5 lbs sugar & a 1/2 gal of water. I’ve never made liquor without grains.
howdee dude, any chance of a whiskey video, your videos are very "to the point", i like your style, any chance of that video, let me know. cheers.
Whisky is an grain mix in a oak barrel
I saw in the vodka video, you use the turbo product to make the particulates settle in the liquid. You also says it kills any yeast in the liquid. Can you confirm that the method is exactly the same when making rum? I would of thought you’d want yeast in your rum for flavor
it is v difficult to get molasses in my area, however i have access to brown sugar and dates molasses are available as well plz advise me ty
Do you know how long the wash will last before you distill it?
Can you do a beer or cider tutorial?
Rum is probably my favorite then mescal is in close second and I mean close second.
Can you add natural flavors like vanilla to it?
what would you recommend for a captain Morgan taste. yeast or what not
Is it legal in the uk 🇬🇧 to make this ? I've never seen a home brew store in the uk 🇬🇧 before ?
You may want to consider using a brix meter. You want your wort to have a brix of between 19 and 20. Over and you will not get all the sugars to ferment and they will also produce a lot of off flavors. Also, I would rather use a wine yeast than turbo yeast as turbo yeast also produces a lot of off flavors being super aggressive.
Or he could use a rum yeast...
Hi moonshiner how many bottles of rum are you getting from your wash ?
Just an FYI for any future reader that happens to stumble over my comment. You don't need to fuck about with the molasses if you heat it up. If you have it in glass all you need to do is warm it up and it will come out a lot easier. Stick it next to a radiator, stick it in water and boil it, anything that will transfer the heat into the molasses. Then a simple swish of water and it'll be clean.
Wondering what your cost of ingredients and yield of product is
Hi, i just did your receipe, very nice white rum, how can i do it to get a brown tum at the end?
if your wanting to make dark rum, you will need to age your rum in oak barrels or cheat slightly by buying oak cubes from a home brew shop
you would need to age in oak casks or you can cheat and add essences from any home brew shop
Will you be posting more videos? My husband and I are just getting into making our own spirits.
yes I'm working on a new on now. glad you guys are getting into distilling
I defiantly will be, I've been doing some major renovations on my hose plus building a new still. But now I'm all finished and ready to make the next video
I've tried making your vodka with a little twist and actually love it! Now im on to rum, but i assume this will get you white rum at the end? I don't get the principle on how to get dark rum? Is it just adding spice and color? if so what would you consider. Thank you
That's great news. Yes this will make white rum. If you want Dark rum you will need to age with oak. if you want gold/spice you will need additives.
The Moonshiner alright thank you very much! :)
that's great news. you would need to age in oak casks or you can cheat and add essences from any home brew shop
Sorry, can't help but ask, why is there a drain stopper in the wall?
Would it be a problem if you just scrape the bottles of molasses out with a rubber or silicone spatula as you add it to the wash? It would still mix in and dilute eventually right? Or does it make a difference trying to take your time adding it in?
I buy it in bulk now in plastic 5ltr tubs. so it doesn't matter how you get it. just make sure its well stirred
Please can you start making more videos
if you slightly heat you molasses it pours so much easier
+itll doo I do do that, I was rushing to make this Video. but thank you
Really thought about getting into this but I can buy a bottle of rum or a bottle of vodka or anything else for about 10 years dollars for 750 ml considering that's about all I drink in a week I don't really need anything else
What about using Molasses only?
Floride concentrates in hot water tanks. Ever think about filtered water instead?
Pre-warm the jars of molasses in a washtub of hot water to make them pour faster.
Stand the molasses in hot water first
Bread yeast works???
Hipe i can make that bro from the Caribbean islands
MAKE MORE V.D.O PLZ PLZ PLZ
I LIKE YOUR V.D.Os Sooooooooo MUCH
Is that chlorinated water you're using?
Legend!
What was that thing actually called which u put on the lid. It was like transperant pipe?
It is an airlock
www.amazon.com/Twin-Bubble-Airlock-Wine-Making/dp/B008ACWSZU/ref=sr_1_25?crid=1NQNNAJ7NSQ29&keywords=fermentation+bucket+with+airlock&qid=1584549805&sprefix=fermentation+bucket+air%2Caps%2C176&sr=8-25
Your awesome bro ! So after this let it sit for a week and it will be ready to drink?
just a few question i tried to make a rum wash but messed it up. in full discloser i did not pour it from bucket to bucket. But My rum wash smelled like bad wine during and after frermentation and tasted like it to. I put another brand of clearing agent but it was still the same color when i finished. Is that the way it is suppose to smell like. so new at this it is not funny
+Timothy Hightower Hello Timothy. Thank you for your question. it is probably the Molasses you can smell. are you using a sweet unsulphured molasses? the kind you bake with. to be honest what it smells like at the beginning is pretty much what it smells like at the end of fermentation apart of a smell of alcohol.
Is that 30c or 30f I assume c
I am German, have no problem understanding what he says, but if you are from Lusiana or Texas, than that is a problem.
Aren't you supposed to invert the sugars first? i.e. heat in boiling water for a few mins.
Feed store molasses, get the garden kind, $20.00 for 14 liters.
Tesco, sainsburys, lidl, aldi, waitrose DO NOT sell molasses :-( asda does... Also holland and barrett does aswell as thats where I got mine from :-)
When are more videos? ;) Great content
+Leo very Thank you, soon just had a bit on. I've got one coming out very soon
+The Moonshiner BTW, do you know how safe it is to just use warm water from the bath, can't there be bacteria etc? I imagine those would die if you distill but should I not do that if I just want to ferment a wine/cider/something
+Leo I live in England, the water that comes out of our taps is of the finest quality. there will be no Bacteria in the water.
I perfectly understand if you are unable to answer this question. I also understand that use of the word 'moonshiner' probably answers my question. Are there any laws one needs to be aware of before doing this? I am in the UK and there are people who argue one way or another whether or not one requires a distillers licence to do this at home.
I don't know about the UK but normally every country requires a license for distillery and normally it is heavily taxed. Shouldnt be any different in the UK.
a distillers licence as £25 but you could be refused and then you are on the raider of the tax man. plus you would need to have a kitchen or garage that conforms to food and hygiene requirements. plus even if you had all that you cant sell it.
Would bread yeast work?
Yes but rum yeast works better
Next time speed up the emptying jars and bags part or edit it out, otherwise good video.
you made an owl on 8.48
thanks for the video and information nice drinking i bet terry
thank you terry. yes it tastes the same as Bacardi
your welcome
About how much would you say this set you back as far as cash?
Hello Charles F thank you for your comment. You can build your own Still for less than £50 or you can buy a ready built stainless steel one for around £300. As for the ingredients your looking as around £35 a run
Wont carbon remove flavor? I thought you use carbon for neutral spirits like vodka.
Well, it might. But, carbon filtering is a feature of some liquors. Tennessee Whiskey is carbon filtered, and it still has flavor.
Can I use bread yeast instead of turbo yeast
Yes it works better.
Or a rum yeast... Even better
And how do we come to know that rum is ready?
It will stop fermentating
How do you get water from tap 30 degrees when freezing is 32 degrees?
Andrew Wright 30 degrees celcius
Actually 30 degrees is an angle. It's not measurement of temperature. haHAA
It is actually about 86 degrees Fahrenheit
A single gauge, interesting
how to make a dark rum though?
David of the path you can use the same method people use to turn light run in to dark
you would need to age with old wine casks
You are one messy chap!
I made the water 30 degrees and its now just a block of ice.
You must have some good tapwater. If I did that it would taste like a rubber boot.
My friend got fired from a restaurant so he stolen like 14bottles of pan cake syrup Can I use that to make rum
Never eat or use pancake syrup for anything, made from corn, baaaaad.
Hobby- Duke should of stole something worth having
30° f or 30° c
you do know that 30f is below the freezing point of water, right?
Hi its a expensive wash about 30 euro Petra
30 degrees C, or F
Edward Valentino think about it 30f would be ice
Celsius. He's a Brit.
What kind of weird subtitles do you have dude.
You do NOT need turbo clear or turbo carbon!! Why add extra crap to your wash? Do really think they added stuff like that in the 16, 17,18, 1nd early 1900s? NO! And you really should BOIL your sugar and molasses with some water for about 20 mins. This inverts the sugar and makes it easier for the yeast to eat
Dont try Captain Morgan, he never took a shower.
Sorry lad - well intentioned I'm sure, but I can't believe you've got a video of making a rum wash using shit turbo yeast. Absolute rooky mistake - but you'll probably know that by now from the headaches. Plain old bakers yeast is all that you need, and in fact, outside of using horrendously expensive commercial yeasts, is probably the best yeast you can use for rum. Some dead yeasties for nutrient, and away you go. Also - to make a good rum, the main player needs to be the molasses, NOT the sugar, as all you'll end up from this wash is a molasses flavoured sugar wash. You'll also need some butter in the kettle to stop it foaming and puking. Remember - if you're providing advice others you need to make sure you firstly know what you're talking about. I could go on.........
Ewan Black can I see your video ?
