    You need to massage your turbo carbon for a minute or two, whilst it's still in the packet, this will change the density of your carbon from been clumpy to a liquid, making it easier to fully mix into your wash, hence, your not wasting it.

    In all my life I have never heard of using some of that stuff you list. I grew up with an old man who taught me how, and it was simply put water in to a copper vessel(still), add your starting fruit, grain, vegetable, add sugar, yeast, and leave to ferment until the proper time the light the fire underneath then allow the gas to enter the coil. Then you can put into a thumper, or just allow it to poor it out as liquid straight after as people in my family have simply done in the past. That list does not seem at like the knowledge I had as a kid, and even now.

      +Fangadora Wolfen when do you ever add Fruit and Veg to a Vodka wash? if that's how you do it good luck to you, this is my way. This is more of a intro to home distilling and a simple recipe to get people started.

    • @fangadorawolfen6164

      ass? I am not saying vodka(I should have been more clear), but liqueur in general. You use certain fruits(Hard cider-apples), or grains(Whisky-rye), or vegetables(vodka-potatoes). You just have to ferment whatever your going to use to create a liqueur. Wine in the same process is strengthened into brandy. Though things like wine need to age and ferment in a very different way than most if not all alcohol. Things like beer and gin have more recipes to hundreds of different flavors making them fairly unique in my opinion. I grew up in a household with an old moonshiner as a father. He taught me how it was done. Now that I think about it your way seems like an easy way just for people at home in areas where an alcohol still would have a hard time functioning, or around people who just want to make a small amount.

    I followed this reciepe but I used 16 cups of sugar and everything was working the yeast started working fast but it stopped bubbling after 24 hours should I dump this batch and start over? or should I just move on to the next step ? or sould I wait the six days left and then finish the process. I put the tubo carbon in last and I used classic 8 turbo yeast and it was bubbling very fast. I never understood kg so I guessed is it too late to add more sugar?

    Tip. You can effectively spread the use of one turbo yeast packet over (2) 5 gallon washes. How? Because of marketing. Yeast is a living organism and will multiply in ideal conditions. Something the turbo yeast manufacturers doesn't want you to know. They add plenty of nutrient into the packets for you to use one packet for two batches. I know because I've been doing it for YEARS. I still get the 20% yield after 5-7 days. Now the cost of using turbos isn't so bad is it?

    • @maxischerr
      @maxischerr 6 лет назад

      wingmanalive I like turbos very much. I make my wash with about a kilo of malt (1.15 €) per 10 liters. This adds so much nutrients, that you need a teaspoon of turboyeast for 10 liters and it ferments even quicker and adds a nice malt flavour. Not much but its better then the yeast off flavour, that is also able to taste after refluxing it!

    lol. My North Carolina neighbor used a garbage can like kettle, cooked it (stearlized), and threw veggies in, including peppers. Then worked in his garden while the kettle cooled. I did not see any cooking, no distillation, this is just a fancy sugar wash, which people in NC would have thrown out in the day, and been angry.

  • @RobertSeviour1

    Those who know say 'avoid anything with Turbo in it's name'. Why? Because this type of yeast produces a great deal more of the unpleasant compounds in the foreshots - that's why you have to resort to activated charcoal in an attempt to remove them. Better is to use a wine yeast such as a 'champagne' yeast which produce far less of the nasties.

    Thank you so much for sharing. I just bought a Bighorn still and want to make 94% or better alcohol to use for cannabis oil extraction. The 94% grain alcohol available here is $96cdn per 1.1l. I have only just now unboxed the still and am researching what other equipment I need and the process used for making mash and distilling. I believe I found all my information in your videos.
    You say your finished product is 70%. Do I just reprocess my finished product to increase the % and add water to decrease to a more palatable 40% if I want to make drinking vodka?

    • @maxischerr
      @maxischerr 6 лет назад +1

      Justin Pentercost 94% is impossible with a pot still. You can get 85% then you are good, but that isn't like the 94%. It still has a taste. What you want is a reflux still. My one costs nearly nothing, but can produces 94%! Just google it, the building and using it is a great fun.

      If your tap water has chlorine in it, boil it or let it sit in a vessel for a few days, so the chlorine can draw off.
      Alternatively, use bottled water.

      My tap water has no chlorine in it. There is no water or sewer service where we live. We have our own deep well and a ceptic tank.
      City municipal water always has some chlorine in it to prevent any bacteria or viruses growing in the piping. This is why I mentioned chlorine.

      Ray_Biker Your own well...excellent..! That's even better than bottled water for mashing and fermenting. i live in Denmark, here we can drink the city water right from the tap...no chlorine in it. In my neck of the woods, the water is a bit hard due to the limestone in it, but that doesn't matter for my ferments. On the contrary, the limestone lowers the PH level which is fine. Yeast is happy around a PH of 4,5 to 3,5...anything higher or lower causes unpleasant byproducts or even dead yeast cells (fermentation crashes).

      I live in a part of the UK where all our water comes from a natural underground spring, apart from the bacterial screening the water company do. it is as fresh and clean as mountain spring water

    I watched all four videos. I thought that vodka was supposed to be made using potatoes. How come you're not using them?

    Out of curiosity, what do you use to avoid methanol poisoning? I've heard this is a serious concern when brewing hard liquor as opposed to beer.

      +Do Over Gaming its all in my 3rd part Video. you should always though away the heads (first part of the run) as methanol and acetone have a lower boiling point to evaporate off first.

    Shouldn't it be stored somewhere outside? The CO2 in high concentrations can be dangerous
