The 4th of March would’ve been Mam’ Zenzile Miriam Makeba’s 90th Birthday… Nothing takes away from Mandela’s legacy as a nation builder, he is however not the only person to credit for our freedom!

@@blackkonnexion if you gonna try use the Uncle Tom as a slur then your ignorance is self explanatory
Uncle Tom freed slaves and taught them how to read and write .
Miriam Makeba and Chris Hani are the catalysts of that era , Mandela was chilling in the suburbs of the western cape for almost 10 years while active ANC and PAC soldiers were dying daily in exile and locally. Nelson was a perfect instrument for the NP as he made any hope of realizing a dominant African state null and void he signed away Nuclear weapon, didn’t build any black economy and probably hindered it (mineral rights laws & Expropriation of land w/o compensation). These issues are many and too broad to go into depth about.

Madiba played his part and the country had a relatively peaceful transition. He delivered the political freedom and the constitutional dispensation that is the envy of the world. The real work for economic freedom was the job of those coming after oThabo, Zuma, Cyril.... because anc sacp did not achieve an outright military victory they had no choice but to go with a negotiated settlement...and under a lot of pressure from the west. U are seeing today how the west is pressuring Russia, imagine the poor anc. Dont blame madiba bafo. Blame the anc who lost their way thru greed and corruption. Blame yourselves as voters. You continue to vote for corrupt politicians and to be stuck in narratives about race. Blame the black middle class ...and tenderpreneurs...they are consumers and twerkers and dont want to farm or own factories .

People undermine Madiba's role in our democratic transition...especially those who did not witness the fighting and looming war. Mandela put peace and people first. There were blood thirsty comrades who would've cost the country and many lives. These stupid arguments that he sold the country are peacetime luxury conversations. There wasn't much he could do. Ofcourse our oppressors were never going to give him the keys to the vault. That has NEVER happened in the history of colonialism.

@@peacenation9338 These are people who do not know the pain of serving time for 27yrs. If he sold us out why don't they stand up and fight to change what they see as a worthless fight. If you are born with a silver spoon in your mouth you will never appreciate a hustler. Lazy fools, they can't even vote out the politicians that are squandering their livelihood because they are used to just being fed without knowing where their food comes from.

I feel sorry for people who get info from attention seekers. Nelson Mandela said on multiple occasions that he did not free anyone, the people freed themselves. He was very much against the idea of being seen as a Saint. Umama Miriam Makeba would be perplexed by what this person is saying here.
