@@jinkies1649 right! it’s so sad to think of what it could’ve been and how it could’ve impacted the rhythm game scene even more. but at least we have a community who cares, and there’s plenty of fan content
It's sad that the PaRappa community now is almost non-existent. Yes, it gained some fans because of memes, but still, the game lacks content made from the community. What I find weird is, looking up PaRappa on Japanese version of RUclips (niconico douga) barely shows any new results, only the old playthroughs and old footage, despite being hugely popular in Japan. As a PaRappa trilogy freestyler myself, I believe that PaRappa just doesnt get as much attention, but also doesn't need to be that popular. In my opinion, the main purpose and the hidden gem of the trilogy is the ability to create your own groove, and yet many people miss that while playing the games. But still, the potential of the series is huge, and I believe PaRappa The Rapper will get a resurgence sooner or later!
I vastly preferred Parappa 2's story to Parappa 1 (although my favorite in the series by far is Um Jammer Lammy's), but man I agree on out how off all the characters looked with shading.
I think this freedom of creativity carries over into the music as well! For instance, think of how the music changes in the bad and awful modes. Especially in Parappa 2, they are just let their minds have fun and made some of the silliest and wackiest music I've ever heard, and I'd like to think that the wonderful weirdness of them is directly inspired by the unique and zany nature of the characters and the art! It's almost like the stage itself is freestyling in it's own demented way to say "Haha! You suck!" 😆
So glad that Parappa is still getting his recognition!! The music in these games are incredible, and you perfectly captured why I love the charm and aesthetics of the original Parappa game!
Rodney said in a QnA They just couldn't get rights off sony Rodney wants to do parappa 3 but Sony thinks (just what I think) they couldn't get money off of parappa anymore
I was already pretty familiar with PaRappa's history, but Um Jammer Lammy has always been a blind spot for me. Definitely my favorite part of the video and makes me really want to finally play the game. Nice work on this vid!
Thanks dude. And yeah, Lammy is wicked. Tho one thing I don't mention in the video is that the actual feel of the game is admittedly kinda jank lol. It's a lot like OG PaRappa, where where the input always feels a little bit off, but honestly worse. It's still a great game, just very rough around the edges.
@@Ryan-Petre Always been a massive Um Jammer Lammy fan, as well as Parappa, but your analysis is completely fair and correct. The timings of Um Jammer Lammy is definitely off slightly more than Parappa. But I love that game. And when you've played it so much over the years, you become accustomed to it.
@@blacksunshine7485 Yeah, Baby Baby might be the worst in this regard (even tho I love that stage). and even if they weren't, the actual button sequences themselves are way more intense than anything in PaRappa like in Fright Flight. I remember Greenblat even said in an interview how crazy he thought it was that the NA Sony reps were marketing the game towards kids, given it's intensity (as opposed to in Japan where it was marketed more towards teens/college students).
Although i'm several months late, having this pop up in my reccomendations was a pure joy. It's not everyday Parappa gets such a great video about him made, props to you!
Parappa was my favorite game, my favorite thing in Parappa 2 was the map select screen. It had the dopest little jingles for each stage and I used to spend hours just sitting and listening to that screen
I would love it if you covered another Playstation franchise filled with imagination and creativity, LittleBigPlanet. Also, amazing work with this video! Im subscribed! :D
Rhythm games are one of my top favorite genres. My first introduction to them was parappa but I only watched my brother play it. Later on, the first rhythm game I ever played was rhythm heaven (i still believe that love rap is an amazing and I don’t care about your opinions.) Later on I played more games, those being taiko no tatsujin, beat saber, and vib ribbon. Although I’ve barely played parappa, I still absolutely adore it
I strongly disagree with the idea that the plots in the anime are too simple or standard compared to the games, I'm not sure how much of the show you actually watched because some of those episodes get absolutely fucking insane
You deserve more subs and I also agree that we should have a little big planet-esque parappa game, I'd be so happy if that was announced I could die so bloody happy
I feel like a Super Mario Maker type game like PaRappa maker would be cool as a spinoff, but an actual PaRappa would be awesome! Maybe a level maker to go with PaRappa 3? I think more songs, more creativity, and maybe R1 and R2 being separate or hold notes would be cool
I think it would be interesting if they got underground hip hop artist to make the songs for the sequel, like imagine Tyler or Kendrick Lamar making a parappa the rapper track? It would be nuts!
Those aren’t underground artists and I’d much prefer if they’d keep the original composer, I imagine a lot of the charm would be lost if someone else did the music.
Playing this series and seeing the artstyle, and the vibe i get from this game, makes me want to see a spiritual successor or make my own spiritual successor to this game. FNF isnt it
I love all of the parappa games, but revivals have had massive issues when the only thing driving them is a sense of nostalgia. Im not saying a Parappa 3 couldnt work, but if they did what you said, and just made it like FNF but with Parappa, I think itd seriously compromise its identity. If there was a new Parappa game, it really should only be made if it set out to be a wildly inventive front runner, to the point of being alienating to some people. It shouldnt make people say "Oh hey, its Parappa but like FNF", it should make people say "This is not a game" If it cant make people say that, I dont think it needs to be made, especially not if its originators completley lost interest in it.
I grew up on parappa the rapper 1 which i played on the ps2. Then i got parappa the rapper 2 and it was so much better what on earth are you yapping about⁉️
We really need a new Parappa game. With rhythm games being as popular as they are right now, it really is the perfect time for him to return.
i wish that project rap rabbit was kickstarted around this time, where rhythm games are at its hype again.
@@bear3471 yeah, I’m really torn up about Rap Rabbit it just missed the rhythm game boom by a few years. Hindsight is 20/20 I guess

Parappa the rapper deserves to have a comeback.

Same here, i like the more coherent story in 2, but the shading isn't great (Um jammer lammy is also my favourite, lol)
