Sir, I can not thank-you enough for your tutorial videos! Just 3 weeks ago I was still using a flipphone, so when I purchased an iphone so that I could film videos for RUclips I was a little overwhelmed to say the least. YOU take the unknown and remove the confusion and fear that is a part of having NO CLUE what you're doing. Thanks to your step-by-step instruction I have 6 videos on RUclips already! After some research I found that you have to read this file...opencamera.org.uk/devices.html... Open camera will not suit all phones the same way and some devices seem to set limitations for external apps...that said, Open Camera is way better than the native Samsung app for video - but not for photo where jpgs are very poor quality compared to Samsung auto or pro mode...

exactly! this is what I struggled with last year when I first fell in love this app. I couldn't understand why everyone else's opencam UI had different options than mine. I spent a ton of time trying to figure out what was wrong w my phone and then finally learned from the dev that, obviously, this app is going to vary from phone to phone due to different hw/sw features. the opencam app functionality can change even if you have the same phone model but different service providers (like two Samsung Galaxy phones but one with ATT vs one with Verizon)

OhPervyOne I agree with Perv's suggestion! It's absolutely critical info for folks who are about to dive into OpenCamera for the first time. Especially if they've just watched this awesomely detailed video, they're likely going to be a bit disappointed when they go to change the OpenCam settings on their phone and realize that they don't have all of the gnarley specific options that are demo'd in this video. I'm not saying OpenCamera is a bad app- I still think it's amazing (and its FREE!)- but it's important for people to realize the functionality depends on their phone model's hw/sw capabilities, plus variances among service providers.

I downloaded the Open Camera app to combine it with my Aputure A.Lav mic. The sound quality is pretty bad. I used all settings as in the video. Mic is attached on my shirt, in the middle of my chest. The sound quality is a bit muffled / I sound like I have a cold.
Any tips on improving the audio quality? Maybe another app could deliver better quality? I'm using the app on a Oneplus 3.

Did I miss it or did you not cover the rotation setting? My camera app will not allow me to rotate.. every time I try to rotate it shuts my video camera off and I can't find a setting to fix that

Hi Justin, I recently bought an external microphone from Amazon and it's a Boya M1 omnidirectional mic. And I have an OnePlus 7T, I am trying to record the audio for my videos from the external mic using the settings mentioned in your video, now the problem comes, I am not getting any audio what so ever from the microphone. I have tried and tested the microphone with other audio only recording apps and it works perfectly normal but in Open Camera app it is having problem, it would be great if you can let me know what I might be doing wrong or is it the problem within the App. Thanks in Advance.

50 dollar Android Moto Verizon now can do what my 1400 dollar Canon g30 proconsumer camcorder can do. But Canon has nice lense and 60 fps with dual cards and audio and other professional features. But dam your getting a lot for free

Hello Justin, I have just uploaded this app and I am wondering what video format to record in? The options are Default, MPEG H264, MPEG HEVC, 3GPP and WebM ( Audio not supported) ? Any advice much appreciated. My recordings are the occasional concert and some random videoing when walking about. Cheers in advance
A good tutorial. But when you set to 120 fps you still get a 30 fps video 😡 The app is no good for slow mo footage.

Hi, need your help. A bit urgent. My phone has an inbuilt stabilization feature but Open camera doesn't seem use it even when i turn stabilization on. the stabilization works fine with the default app which I don't want to use.
I have an galaxy note 4. my max is UHD mode. in the settings on open camrea, it only allow 1920x1080 HD . it won't show the 3840x2160 UHD mode to pick from...any tips on getting this mode to show up?

whenever I try to film a video with this app it just gets really messed up. the colours are shifted off the objects, it's got a lag and there's a weird green and red bar across the top of the video... any idea what the problem could be or how to fix it (my phone is the htc desire btw.) thanks!
That's strange!! There is no perfect solution for an app that works well across ALL android devices unfortunately, hopefully the issues you're having can be fixed in an app update soon. Definitely worth contacting Open Camera support and letting them know 👍🏻

Hi Justin, I downloaded and checked my Open Camera app but it does not have video stabilization option. Does it mean that my smartphone doesn't support video stabilization or it's just that the new update of Open Camera removed that feature.

I've used Open Camera and made quite a few videos. All of a sudden tonight I was recording a video (on unlimited) and it kept stopping what setting should I double check to avoid this?

I have a Nokia 7+ and would like to use the Open camera app, but find the zoom is much higher with the built-in Nokia camera app. Is there a reason for this please ? It's the same with a couple of other camera apps that I have tried. the nokia phone has two lenses, is there some connection maybe .. perhap only the Nokia app can access the telephoto lens.

Hi Justin, thanks for the video. I'm really struggling to get a crisp focus on myself and a slightly blurred background using open camera on my android. Should I use an auto focus because I set it on manual focus, I find my head goes in and out of focuscwhile taking and gesturing to the camera. Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Try autofocus and see if that works better for you 👍But maybe keep the other settings on manual!
@@PrimalVideo Thanks Justn, yes it seems a bit better with everything manual and autofocus, I'm experimenting with continuous focus and that appears even more consistent, manual focus just doesn't seem to work consistently enough if you move at all in your vidoes

Thanks for your video. In opencamera, do you know how to disable mirror on ft cam ? I tried the web site but my menus do not match those shown. I tried the version from the web site but no luck. It looks as though dev has become dormant. Apart from that its great.
The key things I need are to fix the white balance, even better if I can give it a number. My lights are 6k. Also my wife needs to use FT cam so she can see what she is doing.
She basically makes demo / teaching videos to help kids in local schools, learn calligraphy in Chinese.
Dark back ground, white paper, Black Ink, her hand and lower arm.

I have Samsung Galaxy J7 2017. Some options are not present in my Open Camera App, for example there are no scene modes at all. I have switchd to Camer2API, but it does not help.
It's 100mbps good for instagram videos? I'm sure it will be for RUclips because you can choose the quality and people opt for the highest. but instagram has a different approach. I prefer good audio and above average video quality for instagram. Pls help anyone.
I would also set the shutter speed at 1/60s. Before that you should enable 'use camera2 api' feature in the app settings and then you will be able to change shutter speed and ISO manually.
I use Honor6x device with marshmallow 6.0. I tried to connect Blue Snowball USB mic with OTG cable.
It turns mic power on but wont record the audio. I tried with open camera too but it just recording with phone mic only and not external mic.

Justin why does it matter the frame rate per country? I'm making a digital product in Europe but will sell the product around the world including USA? And for cinematic I've heard many times 24 fps? Can you clear that up for me? And for sport shots (high movement?) change it to? Thanks ;)
I'm having issues with the focus lock. Just isn't locking... Still jumps in and out of focus with this mode activated. Not sure where im/the app is going wrong.

I just downloaded this app on 10/15/18 and it doesn't have all the setting you are tweaking here. Is this a paid version?
Also, if a certain setting is shown within video settings does this mean that it is going to record with those settings? Apparently my phone can record 4k videos at 200mb bitrate and 120 fps. When I hit record with these settings it actually successfully records and saves the video. Then I go to view the video and it seems normal. I am guessing I would have to view the video on a big 4k TV in order to actually see the high quality results.

Ummm... why did you tell people who are in AU&UK to select 25fps? What circumstances do you envision somebody recording video on an android device and needing to convert it to PAL? Because I have not seen it happen for about a decade. Even then it was on technology which was itself a decade out of date. :/

I just tried this one out, works well. It has an option to control the MIC volume or sensitivity, which is really good.
Yeah OpenCamera is definitely another great option - just depends on which device you're using as to how stable and what features you have access too.

Open Camera app won't shoot video on my Samsung s7 Edge. Press the video button, nothing happens. It works on my older LG
Why are we disabling "restart on max file size"? That seems counter-productive unless it doesn't do what I think it does. Many phones have a time limit/file size limit. Isn't the point of this feature to allow you to continue recording when you've hit that limit?

I have a question. Is there any way to change the orientation of the front cam video? I want it to look like a mirrored selfie but I can't get to do it with Open Camera. The stock camera app from my Redmi Note 8 Pro can do it but the quality is poor.
I wish I had better experience with Open Camera but In my experience its is total trash. Over heating my phone, bugging it out, freezing , not saving recorded files etc

dude please reply to this, iam somewhat new to custom roms,using oneplus one with rr in android 7.1.2 and till now i didnt notice that there was an issue. I use open camera to record videos and i found out that even if i set the video framerate as 60fps it only recording 30fps, i looked up in the internet and i found a couple more apps but none of them solved the issue they all record at 30fps even if i change the framerate, there was no fix for this in the internet please help asap.

To me it's the inward ,my phone doesn't have the option for 60 fps,the snapdragon 450 it is 100 percent capable for 1080p 60 fps,but when i enter in the open camera app and set 60 fps then press the button record ,it records but still 30 fps.
Hi Justin ! Great vidéo review. The only obstacle that prevents me to use this application is that there is no fashion beauty mode as on the default one I've got on my phone. Convenient to erase wrinkles or bags under the eyes. Ah, narcissism!
Why not just say this is a "Video" tutorial.
It said "filming" not "photography." The camera in the title pertains to the actual name of the app which is "Open Camera."
What I really really need is an app that allows you to listen to the audio, through head phones whilst recording, does any one know if there's an app that can do this? It's really crazy that this is not an option anyone worth there salt making a semi professional film will need this feature.
