Set up in the urban sprawl of Bangalore, this contemporary family home basks in the rustic tones of terracotta, fronted by a striking brick jali. It sits on a 2,400 sq. ft. plot and has three levels and is crafted organically in a minimal theme to induce a timeless blend of past and present.
The ground floor serves as its own independent 2-bedroom house, and could potentially be rented out in the future. The client’s main home comprises the first and second floors and is accessed by an exterior single-flight staircase. Brick is the primary material in the palette and is complemented with mud plaster, Kota stone, and splashes of warm Burma teak wood. Concrete and cement oxide structures are left true-to-form, and all-metal fixtures are naturally rusted to create an earthy, textured finish.
Principal Architect Ninu Ahluwalia recounts the planning and detailing of this earthy home with a built-up area of 3,500 sq.ft., as it attempts to create its own oasis in a dense urban neighborhood.

What I like with most of the such videos in youtube is those who are involved in construction are adding nature friendly features like making more provision for natural lighting and using bricks which will allow for natural ventilation. One thing that worries me is how people are going to maintain such houses (irregular brick structure and jaali accumulates lot of dust, pigeon droppings etc)

The design is a 10/10. It's sustainable, has PV, cisterns and sun shaft for indirect light distribution. But there are few details that concerns me about the design. One of those is the rod ladder. We have to be careful with safety and occupancy. If I fall while descending I'm done. 12:44
For that Ladder there is enough wall for STAIRS!!!. They are a bit safer, in my opinion. I'm aware that there is not enough space for a one strip stair. However WE ARE TALKING ABOUT THE KID's safety. A slight modification can solve the problem.
Second concern is the solar heat for the water tank panels. I know it's a serpentine that heats up water for the reservoir but the panel has SHADOWS. I mean, come on. 13:38. The same is happening with the Photovoltaics. The easiest way to solve it is by doing a swap of the solar panels and the heat panels. A trade of spaces evades those shadows. That problem belongs to the engineer not the architect tho....:3
