    Why is it called the last master? There are three other "grand masters" next to Chen Xiaowang who are all equal in skill and there are about a hundred chen masters underneath them.

    Master Chen Xiaowang is one of the best Chen taiji master, and he can explain taiji theories very well. He does have a very unique taiji flavor of his own. It's VERY hard to get out of his qin na. Great taiji presenter and promoter!

    Grandmaster Chen stayed in my
    house when he came in 1988. He was such a great teacher and we remained good friends ever since. When he would i the roll back arm bar he would place his forearm in the exact elbow spot where the ulnar nerve jump spot was and with the slightest touch you would jump like a bolt of electricity just hit you and you would wind up jumping in the air before he put you down. Fortunately we still have his disciple Ren Guan Yi in the US to carry on the torch of Chen Taijiquan mastery

    Zhenglei is a 19th generation descendant of the Chen’s family and a 11th generation direct-line inheritor of Chen’s Taichi, The same is true for Xiaowang. The two of them are part of the 4 tigers of Chen village and were asked to expand their knowledge overseas. However, the Chinese government officials with the decision of different associations have accredited the title of "official inheritor" to Zhenglei but, again, who cares... both are incredible martial artists.

    it is not misunderstood in fact it is easily understood as you described it, it is about balancing ones energy and finding your center.. it is more then the physicality aspect that is what the beginner only sees.. when we delve deeper into the spirit we realize all things are connected and that one does not even need to physically hit someone to affect them the power of the mind and spirit transcends just the physicality which is just the beginner level of martial arts..

    Lu Wi, you are correct, and yes they are both great masters, but if you didn't really care you wouldn't have pushed the issue in the first place my friend, so let me finalize my correction of you correcting me falsely, there is a reason the title was bestowed upon him, as I stated before Chen Xiaowang is the grandson of Chen Fa Ke, he began learning from his father then uncles and is eldest in age and in the family system, Zhenglei, a great master yes, but great nephew of Fa Ke and Xiaowangs jr.

    btw, the tin-yang ideas that are propounded in Taoism certainly do play a role in the internal martial arts, because Taoism is embedded in Chinese culture; that goes without saying. My concern lies with internal arts teachers who put a "new age" Taoist spin on the internal arts, without imparting real skill. They like to talk about "chi" as an etheriel thing

    How can be Chen Xiaowang called "The Last Master of Chen Taiji Quan" when higher generation(18 or 10the gen.when count from Chen Wangting) of grandmasters is still alive? And there are many his brothers in his generation? I hope he is not the last one :-) This is nothing against Mr.Chen, I also know him personally and I am the same generation as him, but call him such nickname is violation of wushu tradition.

    I saw many westeners practice taichi, but most of them didn't really get the core of taichi phylosophy. To beginners of Taichi, you may start to understand Taichi by thinking it as a phylosophy of circles/balls/roundness. All your movements as if you are holding balls, even if you are doing Zhanzhuang, you can imagine yourself 'sitting' with your chest and stomach next to a huge ball while holding another ball in your hands

    He is the "latest" MASTER of Chen Taiji...
    Not the LAST
    I think it's right to accept him as being the latest one coz he is the chairman of the Chen Village. In any real traditional style of arts, there can be only one "MASTER" who is the top of the school and accepted by all members over there.
    Nowadays, there are a very large of group of masters appointed by themselves or their own students. That is not the real culture and does not comply with the rules initiated by the ancestor of the art.
    All masters want to b higher and higher instead of being humble like what rules intentionally want the members to be.
    The art has changed to many forms and does not maintain the real art according to the first Grand Master because of the lust of many masters.
    This is true in every famous art which attracts students and then end with money and fame of masters.
    I accept Chen Xiaowang as a MASTER but the rest I consider them just instructors. MASTER has a lot of duties to do to preserve the art and the school.
    Instructors get money and grade the students for certificates in return. But MASTER has to be responsible for the behavior of his students whether they do good things or bad things by using the art.
    In the ancient age, there was only a MASTER for a school.
    Before the MASTER passed away, the next one had been appointed in form of a deed. That one must be the best selected student of the existing MASTER.

    @TheEidolon7 you should be careful to not getting overwhelmed by your sensations, physics allows you to do a great many things, no need to go "beyond it" to explain what a true master does (and I've felt one ;-)). To exaggerate a bit, it's not because you hallucinate about flying elephants that they actually exist, if you see my point...

  • @dyonesios
    @dyonesios 10 лет назад +1

    +jonnyblaze777 No, I think you are missing my point. You are bringing your definition of what a master "should be" to the discussion based on your own Christian theology. Who says that's what a Tai Chi master should be besides you, though? Also, Tai Chi is a Taoist art, not a Buddhist art. I'm not sure what your former master "worshiped," as I don't know him, but I have met very few Chinese masters who "worship" anything. The term master has to do with level of mastery of the fighting skills of Taiji, not the level of mastery of personal insecurities. Granted, through kung fu films and novels there has been a strong ideal of such associated with masters, but 1) it's an oversimplification of things, 2) it's an ideal. By your logic, Christ should be ashamed because all sorts of pedophiles, charlatans and thieves claim him as their master. I have yet to meet a priest or preacher who did not have his own issues. Does that mean Christ wasn't really a master?

  • @dyonesios
    @dyonesios 11 лет назад

    Despite the common understanding, the term Master is a measure of one's technique, or gong fu in Chinese. A master chef is not necessarily a wise ascetic anymore than a master martial artist is. I'm afraid you're projecting your conceptions of mastery onto your former teacher. Being good at taiji can help one philosophically, but the two are hardly the same. Further, one bad apple does not make a bad bunch. If it did, Christianity is just as suspect as Chen Taiji. Lastly, education is a business

    Baloney! Why do people try to add a "secret mystery sauce" to the internal martial arts. It's a physical discipline with a strong psychological component. want to learn an internal art, correctly? Find a really good teacher, practice hard, and stay as far away as you can from anyone who starts talking about Taoism, "chi", etc. etc. in a way that leads you to believe that they have "special knowledge" of a mysterious ingredient. Those teachers are looking for followers, not students.

I really hate those type of demos, does not do any justice to the art and perhaps adds to the pseudo-mystique that keeps people from taking traditional martial arts seriously by would-be practitioners.

I did not understand why until Christ saved me years later and I saw what a true master is.. this is why these guys are not true masters as they have not reached that level and may never get there at all...
    Masters do not put people down they raise them up and have no fear of elevating others as that only makes them rise higher. real masters know this.
    that is all I need say

    Ren Guan Yi is one of his top guys so his behavior reflects on him teacher Chen Xiao Wong for these reasons I see them as low level.
    When I was sick Jesus Christ helped me that is why i regard him as the TRue Father and these guys are not...
    the claim to be buddhist but act egotistical and materialistic.
    Guan Yi used to demand 3 months pay at a time $360 and he tried to raise the price to $400.
    true teachers care more about the art then money..
    I am glad Ren did what he did .. i found the true1

  • @jonnyblaze777
    @jonnyblaze777 11 лет назад

    that is not the point at all. the point is that these guys project that they are masters and teachers but deep down are insecure if they were stable they would not be full of ego and need to put down others to secure their feelings about themselves.. what Ren Guan Yi did was to disgrace the whole art and his Sifu as well...
    Having beheld the presence of Christ I know why these guys are considered false masters, they pray to Buddha who is supposed to teach lack of ego yet most are full of ego.
