    Excerpt #1
    He curled into a ball and placed his hands over his face. The angry sow bit him over and over along his shoulder and right arm. At one point one of her teeth pierced into Jim’s eye socket.
    Suddenly the biting stopped. Jim peered under his arm to see where the sow had went. He slowly regained his feet and looked over his shoulder to make sure the bear was gone. About 50 yards away, he could see the sow was sitting on her haunches alongside her large cubs. As soon as she saw him moving, the sow sprang from her haunches to running full steam ahead toward him.
    Jim quickly tried to think of a way to defend himself from the sow. She was furious and very powerful, so Jim decided he would fall to his back and kick at her with his heavy hiking boots. As he rolled to his back, he flailed his legs in the sows face, but she swatted his legs away and pounced on him again. She drove her huge canines into the flesh of his leg and flipped him into the air. As soon as he hit the ground, she bit him again on his butt. She threw Jim into the air one more time.
    Excerpt #2
    The grizzly knocked John to the ground in a blur of claws and teeth. As John yelled and kicked at the bear, it clamped its jaws onto his lower legs and quickly punched its canines through his flesh several times. The entire time it was attacking John with its jaws it also clawed at his legs with its three inch long, curved claws. In a typical defensive attack, the grizzly rapidly bit onto his flesh and pulled, then immediately bit onto another part of his leg and did the same there. In a frenzied and furious attack that only lasted a few seconds the grizzly tore holes in John’s lower legs before leaving him, injured, bloodied and terrified. It disappeared into the forest as rapidly as it had came.
    Excerpt #3
    Before the man could think of anything else to avoid being attacked by the bear, it lunged forward and dug its canines into the back of his right thigh muscle.
    The first bite seemed to be just to get a grip on him, but then it dug its teeth in very deep. The bear tossed its head back and forth in a clear effort to tear Tim’s flesh from bone. The bear bit Tim several times in this fashion, tossing him around each time and ripping deep gashes in his thigh muscle.
    Suddenly Tim remembered he had a pocket knife in his pocket. The problem was that the bear’s front leg was posted up on the same pocket. Tim grabbed the bear’s paw and moved it off his hip. He reached into his pocket and pulled out his pocket knife, now desperate to stop this bear from biting him more. He knew he would have to stab the bear somewhere that would limit its ability to continue to attack him. As he unfolded the blade, he decided to stab the bear in the eye the next time its head came close enough.

    I feel bad that these people had to experience that kind of horror and trauma but I enjoy the stories because there are lessons to be learned here about being bear country and being in bear country unprepared

    Scott isn’t the only person to get mauled by a “dead” bear. Never hunt a wounded bear alone, especially in dense cover. Thanks for relating this story.

    I think it is crazy to re-introduce bears of any kind without a lot of input from the locals & making double sure there is enough food. Trouble is, folks in cities that can't even walk off the sidewalks get these cockamamie ideas.

    • @scarybearattacks
      @scarybearattacks  4 месяца назад +2

      You are exactly right! In Idaho, they turned loose wolves in the late nineties. The locals resented it so much that we quietly adopted a triple "S" policy. Shoot, shovel, and shut up! You can't force these kinds of things on people who are most impacted. It creates hostility.

      LOL! Oh man, I agree! I always used to think I would be afraid when I went to the ocean until I went deep sea fishing. I was happy to be out there. I always think I will be calm when I see a bear, but they wrack me like no other. I can't calm down for days afterward.

    If I had a gun and a grizzly was coming my way. I’m up a medium size tree (makes it harder for bear to climb), positioning myself for the shot, also carrying a large dagger in the bush, and the bear has a small pathway up the tree, so missing would be a skill issue. In which case, you should have thought about that before being in such a position. It’s a lot o logic but why do people not get creative with it?

    Ps, the mountains where I live have both Bear and mountain lion so when my wife and I go out with our dogs, pit-bills , day or night we are armed and with the trouble on the Mexican border, we are here in Arizona on the border, its a 24 hour carry my Dan Wesson and my rifle, it's the price you must pay for the beautiful land we live on and play in, just saying...

    I don’t believe in hunting at the end of the day, that’s the risk you take when you kill an animal in the world

  • @blyt5046
    @blyt5046 4 месяца назад

    I’m sorry I cant have this empathy ppl have for these murderous beasts. Poor Rudy his face eviscerated by the bear. I wish him all the best. Going hunting is deadly nowadays as these animals stay in constant conservation enabling them to multiply ridiculously.
    My daughter wants to go hiking in texas, I have been warning her constantly about the dangers. She claims the area is not overwhelmed with bears, i say it only takes one. Ugh.

  • @livelikemateo6951
    @livelikemateo6951 3 месяца назад

    Rudy had to have a lot of things go right for him to survive. ultimately it was his mental toughness and will to survive that saved him. Best wishes in his recovery. People that say they have no sympathy for people that go into “their” homes or”territory” deserve to get attacked because you invaded their space. That’s like saying the family that flew into Los Angeles for vacation and got lost in their rental car and all ended up murdered because they entered a gangs block. You know, “their” territory. What is “their” territory when it comes to wildlife? Is there unmarked property lines your supposed to abide by? So humans are only allowed to sit on their couch in a city and not live in or explore the wilderness because it’s “their” territory? Why can’t it be both? People live harmoniously with nature all of the time. For every bear you see you surly past 10 that you didn’t. I’ve lived in 4 far Western states. In the mountains, Forrest and currently in a city in Southern California. When living in Washington state I had a massive 200+ cougar just off my rear porch near the river. Since I had young daughters living with me and he was on “my” property should I have killed the lion?I didn’t because I knew it was just feeding on spawned out salmon trying to survive. We both just went on about our day living together, no property lines needed. A scared sow will rightfully defend her cubs just as I would protect my children. A hungry bear may in desperation attack and eat a human just as a hungry human hunt an animal. There are angry rogue humans that prey on other humans as there are surely angry rogue bears that prey on humans seemingly without reason. According to some people I’m currently living where I’m supposed to, in my city territory. A mountain lion was just caught on a local ring doorbell of a mountain lion walking on a families driveway and bears are more common. I guess I’m forever living in “their” territory so I best grab a beer, lock my door and go sit on the couch.

    Would one of those piercing loud sound gadets help deter a bear attack? They're small, light weight, easy to use: push a button or pull a pin out. I've heard one & it scared me half to death ! Would it scare a bear away??? U could tie it to yr wrist so there's no time wasted fumbling around for a gun or spray. Personally, I'd rather have a bear seeking missile strapped inside my armpit! 😱

    I don't feel it's right to uthanize the bears if they attack someone. As I do feel sorry for those attacked you are in THEIR territory. If someone comes into your home your gonna defend it. I can't see killing a bear for defending their home. Sorry not sorry.
