If you're excited for The Sojourn, please share this video around as much as you can on any sites/pages you frequent! Getting attention to original content is extremely difficult and we really need your help to get started!
Done and done. This looks amazing.
When the concept is this Good, the Attention will take care of itself once it begins, it will spread out from person to person, really Good Science Fiction is made to be shared!
I can't wait for it!
how many gates are there
The amount of worldbuilding poured into this is amazing!
I only have a few questions about this:
1. Why in all the descriptions you wrote '[planet name]-Star. Lagrange 4 (...)' except the Centrum system, where you wrote '[planet name]-Cent.Solaris. Lagrange 4 (...)'? It just seems inconsistent to me.
2. Is there a reason why most of the drift gates are in L4s (except of maybe two or three)?
3. At around 7:57 you said something about the asteroid belts in the Vidara system, but there are none on the picture, nor in the description...
I'm not trying to undermine your work or anything, I thing all this is amazing and can't wait to watch the first episodes.
You count on me, that I will contribute as soon as the site for The Sojourn on Kickstarter is up (unless it is already, then I need a link ASAP).
Anyways, I will keep my fingers crossed, and hope for a huge success of The Sojourn, good luck guys!
This is a sci-fi world-builder's dream come true. We've all done this as kids; made ships, come up with stories, designed planets and aliens. It's so good to see something like this being created by fans with such love for the genre.
Relatable
Facts
Keeper's Dance. The single best name in science fiction. Not even exaggerating.
i do really like that name :)
I think Maiala's Rest is better, especially given the backstory
Hi, this is Gabriel, Scientific Advisor for The Sojourn.
A couple of small errata, for something that slipped past us: Pioneer's star is listed in the graphics as an "O-Type Subdwarf Star". That is incorrect -- as Dan said in the video, Pioneer is a _"Dim yellow star."_ As such, the correct classification of pioneer is *G-Type Subdwarf Star*
Firewatch is also listed as a _"Red Hypergiant"_ whereas it is actually supposed to be a *Red Giant*
🤓
I love how you make Valeria Sibus's planetary characteristics part of it's culture.
How the bleeding is used to cover murders.
GENIUS WORLDBUILDING!!
I like it too, but as a guy who does get frequent nosebleeds, I think it would be hard to die in your sleep from one. Being drunk would definitely increase the likelihood of its occurrence, but not by much. You'd have to lose enough blood to fill your lungs enough to suffocate, and nose bleeds don't leak that fast, not even the really bad ones. Not to mention the biological response to drowning, if your lungs start to fill with liquids it triggers an 'Oh Shit' moment in your brain that makes you take action.
It might be possible if your nose bleed forms a sizeable clot, and then you choke on that clot, but not likely. I personally have woken up to a nosebleed more times than I can count. If I'm lying on my back when it starts, I feel the trickle through my nostrils, and if I'm lying on my stomach or side, it just drains out and glues my face to the pillow.
Apologies if TMI, but I consider it my solemn duty to poke holes in weak plot-fabric.
Although, come to think of it, it could just be a rumor there in place specifically to cover up murders by the mob. Like, it never actually happens on its own, but the mob kill enough people like that to support the rumor.
Or maybe the mentioned low humidity actually makes it so any nosebleed is much worse than it would ever be on earth.
Dude, I get some *really* bad nosebleeds. And even those are not bad enough to kill someone. It's not about humidity, the low humidity just increases the likelihood that your nasal tissue will dry out and crack. The blood still has to leak out through the crack, which imposes a limit to the flow rate based on the size of the wound and the thickness of the blood.
That flow rate is, in my experience, capped at around 2 drops per second, which, while not insignificant, is not enough to drown a person in any reasonable length of time. The human lung can hold approximately 6 liters of air, at its highest (adult human male). At 2 drops per second, you would need at least half an hour to fill even one liter, which gives us about 3 hours to completely fill the lungs.
Therefore, a person would need to be comatose, on their back, for a period of 3 hours of continuous blood flow in order to fill their lungs with blood, without any of the numerous biological responses kicking in to stop it from happening. Except, it literally can't happen, because the amount of blood in a human body assuming identical dimensions is 5.5 liters.
Granted, having that much blood in your lungs isn't peachy anyway, but the pressure of the blood would drop enough to stop the flow long before that, and that's with the assumption that the numerous clotting factors all fail to contain the leak.
A nose bleed is literally just a crack in the mucus membrane. It's no worse than a scratch. It would clot easily. The scenarios talked about in this comment are beyond the scope of reality, because of the millions of years of natural selection making it harder for us to die because of something like, say, a nosebleed in our sleep.
The only plausible way a death could occur in one's sleep due to a nosebleed is that enough blood somehow makes its way into the trachea and clots, but even then we have ways of expelling blockages in our airways, like, say, coughing. The clot would not be solid, it would be more similar in consistency to a clump of phlegm, and we cough those up on a regular basis.
Again, sorry for long comment, but I already gave you a potato, and I don't have another.
You bring up some good points. Though if the humidity constantly is close to zero percent, the blood might just clot much faster. Just playing devil's advocate here.
That would mean less blood, not more.
Love the details here. You know, if this rockets in popularity, you can make an official encyclopedia on this. The Sojourn Atlas. I’d buy it. I love detailed sci-fi worlds.
Agreed.
There is so much evidence of genuine passion and care for this world, I can't wait for the stories that emerge from it :D
The editing on this is topnotch
WHAT editing???????
0:34 I see someone played the original Battlefront
my thoughts too :')
Tenno Shenaniganizer I thought that as well
Can’t blame him, it’s a cool animation
Roger Roger :)
Ah that animation and sound bring back some good memories
I really missed that in BF2
Oooooooooooooooooh I like it
Jesus Christ does this place feel real. Love the world building and the comparative mundanity of much of the lore of each planets making it feel lived in and genuine and dodging the cliche of everything being wrought with strife. Can’t wait to see this series come to fruition.
0:36 gave me Battlefront 1 flashbacks.
Yes! So true!
I loved that part of the game
so cool
Destroying everything in an lata on geonosis
If anyone's curious, the piece of music is: Mind Field - Remember The Future
Also loving the lore Spacedock, so looking forward to The Sojourn!
I guess you could say this video is quite...tantalizing.
Hi, this is Gabriel, Scientific Advisor for The Sojourn.
And I deeply aprove of this.
Oh no; it's the Yamato hater
-Cosmo
If I didn't follow this channel, I would have assumed that you were describing the lore of a high-budget first-party sci-fi show. THAT'S how you know you're on the right track with this.
I'm a simple man. I see sojourn content, I click.
Are you kidding! All of this lore is so expertly crafted that I just can't wait for the pilot
As a technical(hard) Sci Fi fan , I can't avoid this channel. And the voice is also great. Ever tought about doing Audiobooks?
But there are glaring flaws in the premisses. But Humans are flawed. I see Solyent Green in the nearby future of the Tantalus Cluster.
I'm wondering why you have fusion power, interplanetary/interstellar mining, but food shortages. Is there just a massive backlog on the production of hydroponics or hydroponic chemicals?
And a planet famous for winemaking… I guess a great population explosion² and a foodcrop plague³ would do. ² cheap boosterspice or a genmod anti aging virus? ³ Idea stolen from Interstellar.
There ought be some reason they don't just dyson swarm every star.
eps200 That's why I was thinking that some tech other than propulsion might require Drift. It would limit expansion to the level that can be supported by production.
A-type stars have a shorter main sequence than G-type stars like Sol. Complex life must've evolved on Centrum a lot faster than here on Earth.
Or there's going to be some sort of Ancient Aliens twist.
"The Wanderer was turned into an orbital museum"
Cool
"It was destroyed in a terrorist attack"
Aww
Worldbuilding at its best, Spacedock. This will be great
0:32 is 100% a nod to the original Star Wars Battlefront map loading screens. Similar sounds and everything. Absolutely love you guys and all of your work.
I can’t wait until the Sojourn begins. You’ve done a fantastic job of building up this universe and I look forward to seeing everything come together.
I am so excited for this. You guys put so much effort and detail into the wordlbuilding, its amazing. You are now probably one of my role models for worldbuilding along with the Mass Effect Creators, GRRM and James S.A. Corey. World building is for me one of the best and most fun parts of writing.
Hi, this is Gabriel, scientific advisor for The Sojourn.
Worldbuilding is my addiction. Precisely what made me so interested in the project and brought me in! :D
Can't agree with you more. As an RPG GM I quite enjoy worldbuilding, and I must say that work here is fenomenal.
For a moment I thought you guys had finished and I was like *"Oh shit it's out! I gotta watch this!"*
this is starting to get some Homeworld vibes, I like it
first thing I was reminded of... which is nice
Wow this was impressive.
The amount of worldbuilding and editing work that was put into this is insane.
You earned a sub.
Yay! Time to journey into more Sojourn content.
That "going red" thing is awesome! Can't wait for the Sojourn
5:15 Firewatch? Love the reference guys! Never knew you played that game!
Valeria Sibus sounds like my kind of place. :D Hmm... this would make a fun sci-fi tabletop RPG setting too.
Hi, this is Gabriel, scientific advisor for The Sojourn.
I am so tempted to make a Sojourn RPG now.
MUST... RESIST... TEMPTATION!
(Maybe in the future if the series is a hit we can do a KS for it, but no promises.)
Will you do a video like this about the Frontier Union
I think at the start it says part one, so it looks like a safe bet
Hi, this is Gabriel, Scientific Advisor for The Sojourn.
Yes, we intend to do two more videos in "The Worlds of Tantalus" series - One for the Union and one for the Freehold. :)
I'm up to 15% or more hyped than 5 min ago
Damn Spacedock, I'm awed by your world building in this video, I have to watch it again just to take it all in!
Definetly worth the wait! The music, the visuals and the editing are marvellous! Can't wait for the first episode. Also: You are really good at finding very nice sounding names for things, be it planets or ships. Keep up the good work ^^
Did anyone notice how the Drift gates were built in Lagrange point 4 and 5. I wouldn't have noticed if i didnt watch the Lagrange point video. Damn Spacedock dont do half ass anything i cant wait for TheSojourn.
I love the idea of a tiny star cluster instead of a huge galaxy. A lot less to focus on and more opportunities to put vast amounts of detail into each system and planet.
The way these Codex entries are done kind of reminds me of Mass Effect in a few ways. Looking forward to when The Sojourn releases!
What a magnificent world building! Keep it up!
OG battlefront style loading screen gave me chills
I just love the time and attention you’ve put into this series, I can wait to see it come to fruition.
It's always interesting to see more scifi settings with humans, but unconnected to Earth at all. Opens a lotta room for worldbuilding potential.
So much history, you put a lot of thoughts in this, great worlds you have created.
I've been a fan of your content for a long time and let me just say it's absolutely wonderful seeing you pour that same talent and passion into something all your own.
With each video that expands the lore and worlds of this blooming enterprise, I get more and more excited. Keep it up!
And here I am trying to create a sci-fi piece for myself, yet I’m doing it alone. I love this. I’ll have to keep trying to worldbuild more and more.
Other than the legendary Ahoy, or Isaac Arthur this guy has to be one of the best narrators on YT
This is awesome. Great work. Can't wait for more!
excellent video and solid world building. I cant wait to see this take shape for you mate.
I'm so ready for this series! The effort already being demonstrated in the writing is intense and I love it!
Your world buildting feels so solid and ritch! I can't wait to hear more!
Great episode can’t wait to see the rest of this immersive world (or worlds) you’ve built
Such beautifully thought out and planned worlds and people.
Love the world building you've done here! The premier of The Sojourn cannot come soon enough!
Can't wait for the full story to come out! I'm a huge fan of the way you've designed the nebula and the history surrounding the people there, it's definitely unique to the traditional sci-fi you normally see. And with all the effort and detail you've put into it, I have no doubt this story is going to become one of my favourites. It's awesome work, you keep me inspired to make my own stories polished and published one day.
I love the style of narration you are using with these. Can't wait for The Sojourn itself!
The level of detail on this is astounding. I'm hyped and I can't wait.
This is satistying. Good Lore, nicely told with a good voice. GREAT plan this series is and i love to see more!
This is getting more and more interesting with every video.
The Avalon Archives videos are incredible. Can't wait to learn more about this universe :D
Love how deep ur lore is
So excited for this series!
Completely in love with this project and this universe. I´m waiting anxiously for the premiere, greetings from Venezuela.
The world building you guys are doing on this is inspirational!
I love the world building you have done, this is great!
Very nice. Great information dump for gave us.
Wow. You've got some great world building going on here already. I'm looking forward to seeing what comes of it all!
This video took me from being interested to see where this can go to being super pumped for more, keep it up, guys.
This is so T H I C C with content! Thank you so much this stuff makes me so happy and invested! I can't wait for more!
I SAW THAT, SPACEDOCK. THAT CLASSIC BATTLEFRONT MAP ZOOM. ILY.
Rialtis seems also to be a great planet to retire to and also to brew wine. Axius is the place that sounds like a scholar's paradise until the battles that overtook them that is and Valeria Sibus seems like the perfect place for outlaws as well as a good place for a bar fight.
Great stuff! Can't wait to see it.
This is sounding very interesting. I am on the edge of my seat with anticipation.
The "Frontier Union" reminds me of the Frontier Militia from Titanfall. I love it! Keep up the hard work
Nicely done!
The more I watch and hear about this, the more excited I get for it.
Wow that level of worldbuilding is just amazing, i espacially love the concept of axius. Seems like a cool place to live!
Fantastic, I can't wait for the first episode!!!
Definitely looking forward to this
Wonderful. Really wonderful. Thanks
holy fuck! that intro sequence after "accessing gatehouse station" gave such a Mass Effect 1 chara creator flashback. I'm even more in love with the project now!!!
Super, super HYPED!
I'm ready for this. So much detail. Your fluff is very fluffy.
Hi, this is Gabriel, scientific advisor for The Sojourn.
Here at _The Sojourn_ we guarantee that our fluff is always fluffy by injecting copious amount of our secret ingredient* into it. Fluffiness assured, or your money back!
*The secret ingredient is overthinking :p
Thanks for the response. May the (insert dieties, if any, of your fictional universe) watch over you.
am i the only one who wants more than just an audio drama of this, like i don't know a book or tv series. and yes i realize that space dock doesn't have those kind of resources but this universe is so cool.
This was great!
Sounds like (it was) a really cool place. Arcologies? Nice.
Absolutely amazing!!! Can't wait for more, really love the huge amount of love poured into the lore and world building!
There seems to be a slight word/audio error (i think) when mentioning the sport at 3:10
Please make another one of these videos but for Frontier controlled planets and stations. This video was so fun to watch and the worldbuilding is top class.
All I need to know is when, I actually think I’m more excited for this than episode 9, I simply can not wait to watch.
This was really well done. I love me some good world building!
i'm intrigued to see where this goes. :) best of luck in the further creation of this :)
I like your take on Kuat Drive Yards and KDY to your Keepers Dance Fleet Yards and KDFY. Very cool with a few good similarities to to being primary ship builders.
I was hoping for a bit of background into the centrum assembly’s government and politics. But a lot of this sounds really interesting. You put a massive amount of thought and research into this, great job!
I stopped spacetime for this. It better be good. Edit: worth it!
Good luck with your project.
So much great detail!
Can’t wait for more!
It’s nice to go back to old school space dock
Very cool Daniel....Nice details....
I love this! I am so happy. I can not wait to see what it looks like.If you need some arts or someting like that. I am here and ready to join.
"A 6 year long voyage, the single longest trip in Human history."
...Yeah, I think that's about to be upstaged by Avalon.
Just bought The Sojourn today and i freaking Love it! Like the expanse im loving more realistic space flight sci fi. I hope we get a game like this soon.
Wow, this is sounding so good.
