Hi Mark. I'm a total beginner. I just bought a very dirty French Slate clock with the same movements you talk about in these 3 videos. You are a true hero! I have learned SO much from you already! I'm the same age as you but have a long way to go to be anywhere near as knowledgeable as you. Thank you so much for taking the time to share and educate. God bless you sir and I will follow your work closely.

I have a mantel clock that has the same movement that I forgot to upload the video. What I like most is to hear the thump of the lever that helps count the hour. I am in agreement with you on how much you want your clock to look either brand new or still have that older look.

In about the 15 minute mark of this video I am putting a suspension spring on. They are held into place by a tapered pin. You take that pin out and carefully take the spring out. Hope this helps. Good luck. ruclips.net/video/CkYulJaXNjQ/видео.html

Hi Mark, thank you very much for the video. I have the same clock but the issue is at the time side: when i turn without power on the main spring, the other wheels are not turning. The clock is cleaned and everything is on the correct place. I received the clock with this issue. Any ideas what i can do for troubleshooting? The strike side is working perfectly.

If all the wheels are not spinning then the first thing that I would do is take the power off (I have videos that show you how to do that) and check for end shake. If the wheels dont have end shake that would cause the wheels not to turn. French clocks pivots are sometimes very small. It might have a broken pivot in one of the wheels. Last the verge and crutch assembly might not be set right so the clock is out of beat. Manually (with power on the spring) rotate the verge and crutch assembly back and forth on the escapement wheel to see if the escapement wheel moves, then the other wheels, and if it does then your verge and crutch assembly needs adjusting. I hope this helps. Good luck.

Thank you. The wheels have end shake. During checking i broke one pivot 😢. I don’t know if it can be repaired or possible maybe to buy one? I also took some pictures of other wheels that i don’t know if the pivots are ok.

I have videos on repairing broken pivots. Just search for pivot on my channel. Here is one video. I have other videos where I suggest practicing on wooden dowels first. Good luck. ruclips.net/video/BgIY3GaYL74/видео.html

Hi Mark, My grandmother has a marble french movement clock very similar to this, its bright green marble with brass pillars and extremely heavy like yours, and the story goes that when my great grandfather bought the clock it was completely black, this would've been around 1930s England, and it has always been a mystery to us as to why until you mentioned about the death of Prince Albert and seeing the brass on your clock being painted black also. Do you have any more information on this? I have googled around and cant find much but that has been a big revelation. Thankyou !

I do not. That is just what I was told while stationed in England from 94-00. Thanks for watching. God bless.

    Hi Mark,
I'm so glad to have found your video. I own a French slate mantle clock with a movement that looks nearly identical. My clock has a broken pendulum suspension spring that that looks exactly like yours. At least the fragments of it which I found inside the case. Could you perhaps share a link to purchase the suspension spring? I'd be most grateful!! Best Regards! Doug from CT

Glad that you found my channel. Timesavers sells them. They cost around $6.50 per spring plus shipping. Just search for suspension spring (or part # 11068, 11069, and 11070). Etsy also sells them for around 2 for $11 plus shipping. I have bought 100 German suspension springs off of Etsy for around $50 where Timesaver sells them for $5 a piece. If you are like me when it comes to these type of suspension springs you will break one every time you service a clock. Before I found the ones on Etsy I would tell myself when I was servicing a clock that there goes another $5. Keep watching for more great videos.

Per your suggested options, I ordered the (2) suspension springs for $11 from Etsy. They are a little different in size, but since my suspension spring is broken into pieces, I can't determine the exact size. I'm hoping (1) of the (2) will get that pendulum hung and swinging. Thank you again Mark, for your advice. I look forward to viewing your video library and have subscribed to see what's new! @@munnerlyn3

You working that spring out gave me anxiety! Have you thought about getting a winder?

I have thought about it a time or two but honestly I rarely have time to work on clocks with main springs in them because I am always helping others out with their cuckoo clocks these days. I have been doing it this way since 1999. Sorry if you got excited. Thanks for watching.
