@@ashleyanderson8776 more like general consensus of the people in that field in the past decade. The evidence is pretty overwhelming. Also, if you don't like it, you don't want to call it revisionism which is standard history research practice. Holocaust deniers call themselves revisionists in order to appear legitimate, and that has lead people to thinking revisionism is bad, but they drive a lot of the fields. Roman Empire researchers for example, in the past 50 years have gone through revisionism as they realized that the early 4th century Roman Empire was prosperous and at its real height, despite the old narritive driven by Europeans throughout history.
Sure. I've read primary documents (put forward by noted historians after being declassified by various world governments) written by the deciding actors of that time (including the President of the US, tge Jspanese Emporer, and various military heads of multiple countries) but your internet snark outweighs that in expertise of analysis of meaning and intent. ... The Japanese do not do themselves any favors by refusing to teach their own history in their schools as the Germans do, and it has allowed a revisionist belief to take hold which is currently being adopted by the rising new Nationalistic faction in Japan which outright denies many known facts about the War that feel a bit too uncomfortable to acknowledge. You're participating in that and then scolding *me*? Don't get me wrong, I love Japan & hope to move there, but it is a very notable new take on old facts and it does not serve them well. Those that do not know history are doomed to (potentially).repeat history. The Emporer was lied to by his military leadership because it went against culture to deliver bad news bluntly... something that would serve as a good lesson if only they would teach it to the next generation.
Japan: We are a new country and definitely not a part of Imperial Japan. Russia: Also, we are not Soviets now. HAI: I'm gonna pretend I didn't hear that.
@senzei dude the Wikipedia is not good at information cuz people could just edit things, and if so the USSR is supposed to get all of its territory back.
You're right about the Soviet Union not signing the Treaty of San Francisco in 1951, however 5 years later in 1956 Japan and the Soviet Union signed a Joint Declaration which ended the state of war and established diplomatic relations between the two countries. The declaration didn't solve the Kuril islands dispute, but it ended the factual state of war between Japan and the Soviet Union.
There was this war during the Napoleonic ones between a Spanish city (Huéscar) and the whole country of Denmark, which everyone forgot about until the war declaration was found in 1981. The peace treaty was signed the same year and it is still the longest war fought by Spain and no shot has been shot. You could do some research on it, it's hilarious how everything happened.
You forgot about how Berwick upon Tweed was at war with Soviet Union until the 1980s, because the Parliament had mentioned "Berwick on Tweed" when the Crimean War began.
Sally author of video didn't mention that USSR needed those Islands for revenge. Some years before Soviets lost to Soviet-Japan war and still was mad at them
What you're forgetting is the the soviet union collapsed (am I'm sure you know) and you can't be at war with a country that doesn't exist. WW2 ended in 1991 when the Soviet Union collapsed.
Not really. Russia is quite officially the successor state of the good ol' USSR, which means that for all legal intents and purposes it IS the USSR. Therefore, Russia inherited all of treaties, wars and international obligations signed by its predecessor. That's why Russia got the Soviet Union's seat on the Security Council at the UN, that's why Russia is still technically at war with Japan.
well, Russia is officially the successor state to the USSR, so unless a peace treaty is signed, than any war that was never ended by the USSR, must be ended by Russia or its enemy... (edit: apparently I should learn to read the replies before I comment)
Russia is the official successor state of the USSR and all of its achivements ranks and etc. The other soviet states relinquished their right to the soviet legacy...But they also refused split the soviet unions debt so Russia also got that burden.
@@AbsolutelyRandomUsername No. Russia got the seat on the Security Council because they acquired the USSR"s nuclear weapons arsenal. Ukraine handed theirs over, not wanting anything to do with nuclear weapons.
@@mikespearwood3914 that's not how international law works. Nuclear arsenal has nothing to do with being on the Security Council. Neither does Ukraine. Ukraine, Belarus and Kazachstan transferred their nuclear weapons in 1994. Russia had a seat prior to that.
A bar? Missed opportunity to turn that place into a seafood restaurant. It would fit with the name of the island. But then again, Putin a bar would be the Russian thing to do

“Tromp, who shouldn’t have really been in charge and doesn’t have the proper knowledge was at power” Hmm, sounds like another person with maybe.. a different vowel in the middle? Huh. Makes ya think.
Anyone with basic knowledge of IHL could tell you that "war" is an outdated concept, which was superseded by the notion of "international armed conflict" with the adoption of the four Geneva Conventions (incidentally, they turned 71 yesterday). This doesn't require a formal declaration, as was the case under The Hague Convention (III) of 1907. It merely refers to the recourse to armed force between States. In the absence of hostilities, which to my knowledge haven't occurred between Russia and Japan, there isn't an international armed conflict between those States. Thus, despite the absence of a peace treaty, they're not at war.

Thank you American educational system. Of course we tell our students that we did a big boom and everyone changed their minds. Wow was it a big boom and I feel bad reducting that tragedy. But point is, we don't address our allies and their impact, most because of Cold War propaganda which still has influenced our world.
Russia also regained control over the southern half of Sakhalin, which was a major motivator for them.
The Southern Kuril islands also complete Russia's control of its only Pacific strait, without which it would have to move its fleet through foreign controlled waters.
I do so enjoy contrarian revisionism in the morning...
Wait, how can that kid be playing Mario Kart 64 with a SNES controller?

Japan: We are a new country and definitely not a part of Imperial Japan.
Russia: Also, we are not Soviets now.
HAI: I'm gonna pretend I didn't hear that.
That Sam B. guy from Wendover is AWFUL right? I mean, his channel has the same name as Wendover airfield near Tekoi!

How do those technicalities happen (thousand-year wars that go on long after the warring states are gone)?
Everyone is fighting one another at this point...

"Unsavory Opinions" to put it mildly lol
technically the war is over because The USSR was a different country then present-day Russia.
Wrong. They are still fighting over 4 islands until now
@@tannedpotato5375 "Wrong." dude, chill...
@@tannedpotato5375 Well then those are border disputes.
@senzei Russian successor of what
@senzei dude the Wikipedia is not good at information cuz people could just edit things, and if so the USSR is supposed to get all of its territory back.

"Tromp who was kinda crazy and shouldn't be in charge"
Now where have I hear this before🤔
You forgot about how Berwick upon Tweed was at war with Soviet Union until the 1980s, because the Parliament had mentioned "Berwick on Tweed" when the Crimean War began.

I remember that the pelloponesian war didn't have a peace treaty and the war lasted till 199-something
Hold on I'm in biology but I'll see how this relates to planes in some way in just a minute
You are talking in the wrong channel. Planes is in the channel of that guy from Wendover. HAI talk about bricks.
What you're forgetting is the the soviet union collapsed (am I'm sure you know) and you can't be at war with a country that doesn't exist. WW2 ended in 1991 when the Soviet Union collapsed.
Russian Federation ≠ Soviet Union
The Soviet Union may still be at war with Japan, but not Russia.
Holy crap make a mini series about all the wars that ended long after the battles were fought or even never ended

Technically Kuril Island dispute ended in 1991 because the dispute is between Japan and Soviet Union, Soviet Union lo longer exist in 1992 even though Kuril Islands now belongs to Russian Federation.

“Tromp, who shouldn’t have really been in charge and doesn’t have the proper knowledge was at power”
Hmm, sounds like another person with maybe.. a different vowel in the middle?
