As a student studying meteorology, “something something Coriolis effect” simplifies my entire first semester
As a student pilot after passing meteorology, can confirm "something something coriolis" is accurate
I'm a physics student, and I have a fluid mechanics exercise about the Coriolis effect and geostrophic current due for tomorrow. I wish it was as simple as the video makes it appear.
I tell people summing up this one thing I learned in 4 years in meteorology: when air rises it rains, when air sinks it’s clear. All the math surrounds this.
You're going to get sick of people licking their finger and sticking it in the air quick.
The Corolla (named after the technical name for a part of a flower) has nothing to do with the Coriolis Effect however. Simply coincidence.

Not only did it not exist, but the weather station wasn’t even in Canada
Good observation, as Newfoundland and Labrador did not join Canada until 1949, the weather station was initially built (in 1943) in the Dominion of Newfoundland. It was a ruse to make the Newfoundlanders think that Canada were spying on them.

@pierusofpella you're nuts
I am from Labrador and this has been one of our big exciting stories. There's also supposedly a German U-Boat from the same period at the base of one of our waterfalls in Labrador. The thought is they were spying on the new air force base being constructed by the Americans in Central Labrador and made a wrong term and went up the wrong river until they were unable to turn around.
Greenland is part of North America, meaning this isn’t the only landing of Germans in NA in the war.

Originally I thought the hurricane on the map at 2:37 would be ANDREW (1992), since it had a very similar path through South Florida, but as it was in August (rather than October) I've searched a bit deeper...
It was the 1941 FLORIDA HURRICANE (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1941_Florida_hurricane) months before US became involved in WWII (December 7-8, 1941). It was slightly weaker than Andrew (100mph / 160kph sustained winds when it touched the south Dade County coast on October 6th, 1941, a few miles south of Andrew's).
As per the Catholic tradition back then it would've been named SAINT BRUNO (that's the way tropical storms were named until the 1950's in the Caribbean Basin, of which Florida is part of).

Coriolis effect is a phenomenon where an object (in this case air) is deflected due to inertial force of drifting Toyota Corolla. This effect is especially strong when Toyota Corolla Sprinter AE86 Trueno GT Apex is drifting. It was observed by Prof. Bunta Fujiwara from Akagi University in early 80's while running in the 90's.
fun fact: the first submarine wasnt even launched when all of this occured (the type XXI has this title). all shown units are u-boats of earlier type that are technicaly submersibles instead of real submarines (different operation profile: submarines dive to fight whilst submersibles dive to hide).
Well the German name for those since WW1 ist unterseeboot. U-boot, u-boat, so technically you correct but even those could stay under water for hours and travel with mighty 3 knots.
Imagine working for a company and getting the response "you work for semen? lol"
First time i ever heard about 'Kurt' was a note on a National Geographic Map. For some reason the 'Nazi weather station on Canadian soil' stuck in my head, and so years later when I visited the War museum in Ottawa and saw it on display I had a mini freak out because IT WAS RIGHT THERE.

The German weather ships in the Atlantic were also used as U-boat supply vessels and also as commerce raiders. So some of them were indeed captured but for the most part, they were targeted and sunk.
Do a video on the Aleutian Islands Campaign! It's the only time the Axis Powers launched offensive operations on North America (not counting Pearl Harbor of course). The story isn't wildly long but would fit perfectly with your format

Hmmmm. And we technically moved the border across the station when NL joined confederation... so does that mean... Canada liberated Nazi-occupied Britain?
There was very little fighting seen in North America except for one Pearl Harbor sized exception:
Aleutian Islands: am I a joke to you?
So, not only is the Canadian Meteor Service not a thing, but the station was deployed in Labrador, which was at the time part of the Dominion of Newfoundland, which was not yet part of Canada
