    Legend has it that they were given 500$ budget and used 450 on booz, “oregano” and equitment and played in the backyard of someone.. can’t remember who’s 😂

      pretty sure it was at one of the band members moms house. 295 Jerusalem ave Hicksville New York. it still stands today surrounded by many new homes.

      @@dannyshaffer1851 just Googled it & you are right, that is the house 47 yrs later! If you look at the house from the street at a left angle you can tell! That street must have been much further back since the cameras were still in the yard

    'Black Betty' is accredited to blues/folk singer Huddie Ledbetter. But there are recordings as early as 1933 from James 'Iron Head' Baker.

    You were killing me bro! You know it’s exactly how it happened, there was definitely partying and decided to go out in the backyard you can see all their motorcycles out back with their old ladies sitting on them. Who would’ve thought they would’ve went out and made a two minute banger that would last for generations! I’ll tell you what’s cool is this is exactly what it looks like when I look through my family Photo albums when I was a kid lol whole different time! Life made sense back then. Appreciate you bro.

    You had me laughing ! I grew up to this song and you’re right, they all just got out on the yard and did “whatever” and it sounded awesome ! They totally rocked !! There was always good times to be had back then, man I miss those times ! Thanks for reacting to this one !

    When the band wanted to make a video for the song they asked the record company for $600 to make it and they spent the whole $600 on beer and weed. But remember that this was in the 70's. They shot the video in the back yard of one of their parents house. Those were the days!!!!!😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

    LOVE IT !!!!! 65 yr old White woman & found your site by REN ( found REN a year ago daughter called me FREAKING said you HAVE to see &&& She Knows I'm hard to impress I had GREAT R&R life ...1978 Penn State on concert committee ( I'm 4 ft 11 SUPER NERD was Art Student ....met band Talking Heads....bassist Tina said she liked dress I was wearing.( BIG Shoulder pads short skirt & LOTS of ZIPPERS All over) ..I told her I made it...she said she knew bands in NYC who'd like that.. gave me phone # of Hilly Krystal owner of club CBGB's... Things went NUTS After!!! 1st shirt I sold thru club. $20...took white T-shirt, cut sleeves off,cut & put 2 BIG black zippers over shoulder that unzipped to black & white checkerboard underneath) it was for a..Guy called Clem Burke drummer of band called Blondie... OK SO Sorry!! LONG STORY SHORT ( too Late)........My Grand parents Turned me on to this song before this came out They Loved Blues & Jazz...&&&It's ALOT Different it's the Led belly version...it was on Vinyl..

      OMG & LMAO !!...I'm 100 % Swedish on my father's side ( maiden name Larson) his family came to the USA Mid/Late 1800's...they were machinists who were recruited & brought over from Sweden to work on & build trains for the railroads !!... Kind of Back fired on the Railroad later....My Dad's father was BIG in getting the Railroad.workers to Unionize....I'm from the USA &&& Only Gun I own...a Colt 45 My Grandfather got from the Union to shoot back at Pinkerton agents the Railroad hired to Bust the union...Grandad worked for Penn Central R.R. ...Altoona Pa. Lived in hills above..he'd get shot at going through the " valley" to work... Last family member that worked for R.R. My Uncle... 10 yrs older than my Dad & AWESOME man...their Dad died when Dad was 10 & Don not only became father figure made it so Dad could have $$ to start college...My DAD!! went on to become a Ceramic Engineer...got hired by company called Corning Glass...his 1st job...in early 60's worked on 1st window in a space capsule...His BIG One...ever hear of Corelle Ware ( dinner plates, bowls ETC) he was one of Head inventors of project( as Kid I remember him bringing test plates home throwing them like Frisbees in backyard &&& They Didn't Break LOL )....OK I'll End Now.....Hope you don't mind the LONG RANT....BUT....       black Betty was a term for a bottle of whisky in England & Scotland in the 1700s & even Benjamin Franklin wrote a drunkards dictionary describing a phrase about "kissing black Betty" & being drunk! Its been used in the US since the early 1800s decades before the Civil War

    Black Betty was a musket used in the civil war and her " child " was the side pistol. It was famous for misfiring and blinding soldiers.

    Ram Jam told their manager they needed to cut a Demo, so the manager gave them $400 and Ram Jam spent that on Weed and Beer and recorded this in the drummers backyard !!

    This was an African American work song that they converted into a rock song. Check out the studio version way longer guitar solo and it's not 2 minutes long

      An old blues song, the singer in this video is Bill Bartlett, former lead guitarist for the Lemon Pipers. the Bass player was Howie Blauvelt, from Billy Joels old 60's band The Hassles.

I was just stating it was about Duane but I am like you in that it is so overplayed I cant stand to hear it anymore & I am a huge Allman Bros fan as I live just a few miles from their Big House in Macon Georgia! My all time favorite band is Led Zepplin but I dont care for Stairway to Heaven! I can name a few more...I'm 60 & grew up with all these great southern bands down here
