As a former Federal Correctional Officer, I can tell you that very little of what was shown in this video is accurate regarding the ADX; albeit there are some truths in the narration. I am sure that is for security reasons. As far as the Army installation close by, the US Army is not allowed to enforce the law upon anyone non-military affiliated outside a military installation. Although they may provide support resources (helicopters, Canines, etc.) they cannot enforce law upon civilians unless a martial law situation were declared. The US Marshals Service would be the fugitive tracking agency in this case in event of escape.
For the army stuff, maybe it's in case a para-military crew would try to attack the prison as a way to try to extract someone from there. No way they would win VS Fort Carson.
@@j-fb4596 Fort Carson was there long before Federal prison was built. And even if a paramilitary group attacked the prison, the soldiers would not be allowed to respond by law. Any uprising would be dealt with by prison staff, US Marshals or local National Guard.

During the Stalin era, the worst prisoners were sent to gulags in Siberia. Security fences were fairly simple, because nature provided an all but escape-proof environment. Hundreds of miles of isolation, with winter temperatures down to 50 below zero F. Heavy snows and high winds prevailed. If you did get past the security fence without being shot, guards with dogs and machine guns tracked you down, and either killed you outright, or brought you back. Those who escaped, were sent even further north, to be worked to death in a uranium mine. Many died from radiation poisoning, overwork, and extreme cold. In the Siberian summer, the environment turned into a mosquito-infested bog, where every step was an ordeal. An adult man could be dead in half an hour, from the swarms of mosquitoes and biting flies.
I heard about someone escaping by shooting a guard when he went to get a new tool, he then blew up the building and escaped to a church on a snow mobile but he got caught again because his intel betrayed him and dobbed him in.
Read The Gulag Archipelago by Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn. Excellent book about Stalin's prisons by a person who was sentenced to ten years hard labor because someone snitched on him and said he spoke badly about Stalin

I went to see a friend in Canon City, Colorado. I looked at google maps to find a bar but realized the whole area was just a ton of prisons and jails. The town is made up of a lot of family of prisoners who live there to be nearby because many of the nearest towns are 1-2 hrs away.
Had the unfortunate experience of hitchhiking with a buddy thru Canon City in 1980. We were not warmly received. Tough area of this country, not into outsiders or anybody for that matter, including inmates.
I live in Florence, I can see the prison lights from my house. Let me elaborate. Fort Carson is 30 miles away and is not in play for prison “backup”! There is only one “door” to the ADX where he is held, it goes under the wall and no one is just walking in or out of it! There are actually 4 prisons in this location, ADX, two US Penitentiaries and a low security that houses short time mostly white collar criminals. There has been a few walk away from low security but not many. It would take a literal army to break him out of ADX, never going to happen! With that being said, I have lived my whole life here in Fremont county and have never met a prisoners family that relocated here! They fly in a lot but don’t move here! I have met some family members here in town, one of John Gottis boys bought us a round at the local bar and we saw Woody Harrelson at the local steak house one evening, his dad was incarcerated here in Florence! Been here my whole life, have many family members that work as guards and what not, but we don’t even think about it much! Canon City is a little different…prisons on both ends of town and a lot of police!
Locals in my town claim to have seen Michael Douglas in a local bar when he was visiting his son in the local prison. A famous cop killer is housed there and we see protests sometimes about that.
I always find these vids interesting. Here the prison is an old castle, rebuilt, its a place built to withstand the onslaught of tens of thousands but fortified from the inside. They have never been breached.
very cool using as castle :) here in the UK we have a prison called Broadmoor built in 1863 , technically it is a hospital but for the criminally insane. it is built in the middle of a moor land that is not only used by the army as a firing range and training area so is full of unexploded ordnance, but areas of it are bog land with will suck you down never to be seen again. If that was no enough due to the weather in the UK if you try to walkout they is a very good chance you will freeze to death much of the year. Criminal are genuinely terrified of bring sent to Broadmoor.

While you have prison staff not paid the best wages but with debts and vulnerable families, and a prisoner vs billions, you should never say never. The only way to keep him inside is to both cut off all contact with any friends and family, and hope that they realise they can carry on dealing quite happily without him.
If he escapes from this place....he'd had earned my respect!!! Well in that regard anyhow!! I would think this would literally be on the same level as escaping hell itself!
He could escape from there by luring a guard into his cell by keeping off the pressure pads and away from the camera long enough to make them think he escaped and enter his cell, then take one of them hostage with an improvised weapon..not sure how you make an improvised weapon, or how you would get past all the security with a hostage without getting shot, but that's the only way I can see that happening.. that or a massive bribe of billion dollars to someone high up in the prison..his drugs network are probably well aware of people who work the prison and could tail them to their houses.. maybe they could even take hostages of prison officers families from the outside, but I don't see the US gov yielding to such demands or that ending well.

There was a show about a German Shepard circa late 60s and this dog was former military working dog on the run non-stop and the Army could never ever catch him.
I worked at the state max security Prison in Sterling Colorado as a CO 1 for awhile. It's weird to know that ADX is basically the hole at its lowest lvl and just a more and more intense hole after that. My usual shifts were in the unit right before the lvl of living in solitary but they had enough freedom that my shifts in solitary were honestly a vacation in comparison. Easier work but the kind of atmosphere I can't explain to anyone who hasn't stood in a room of 20ish of the highest risk inmates all coping with living in a concrete box for 23 hours a day and only not in shackles when in their cell, in a disgusting shower, or a narrow concrete rec room. My point is I wonder if ADX is technically a much easier but also more pressured place to work considering there are only 300+ inmates and they are all basically in the hole.

@@jhonny50612 Hi dear Johnny With promises of money, you can escape from any prison. Even the most secure ones, because in prison there is always a way out: Communication (human relationship) and therefore corruption. Money buys almost anyone.
I think the most obvious and likely circumstance for an attempted escape would be while receiving medical treatment - most of which requires transport to a hospital. Once you're no longer inside the prison all of the physical and electronic security aspects of the prison are no longer relevant. Thomas Silverstein for example died while outside of the prison receiving surgery.
Pretty sure there would be cops that watch while in the hospital, then again the cartel could meet at the hospital and they could help him escape there, so it’s possible, unless they have a hospital in the prison
I was thrown off when you referred to the unibomber as "John Kaczynski". His first name is Ted (or technically Theodore). But to make sure I wasn't remembering his name wrong, I looked it up. It turns out his middle name is John. So you're not wrong. It just threw me off.
Be wary of this channel. It's a fairly low-quality, low-effort channel that has several facts absolutely wrong, even at a quick glance. For one, Thomas Silverstein isn't "the most violent criminal in the history of the United States", but rather someone who spent the most amount of time in continuous solitary confinement in the United States. The reason for that was because he murdered a Corrections Officer. Initially, he went to prison for armed robbery (no deaths), but murdered about 3 people in prison. And as a former federal CO notes in the comments section here, this channel got several facts about the ADX incorrect.
Giving them a small window is such a terrible thing to do. That small window gives them hope in a place where there is none. What a mind f*#k. To sit there and look out a window at a world you can never touch. Its just mean.
prisons in the US can be owned by private persons and not the states. there for the prisoners can give the wardens money and they will live in luxury inside of the prison.

@@Oggifnogg Correction: It is VERY illegal for prisoners to attempt to bribe officials in a private prison as they can face the same charges as attempting to bribe a Government employee. In addition, wardens do not interact with prisoners often, so the chances of that occurring are slim.

I agree with you in principle, but our ideal is to be a nation of laws. He wasn’t sentenced to death, so we’re obligated to keep him alive so that his actual sentence can be carried out. If we carry out unlawful punishments just because of our passions, we’ll eventually destroy society.
@@absoliutenuds Exactly. Though executing criminals rebalances the scales of justice more quickly and satisfyingly, I’m sure being executed is a lot better than spending 60 years in that concrete coffin.
@Viva 1 I get what you’re saying but I don’t necessarily think execution is the easy way out. Execution is final. Death is final. It means whoever is about to be condemned to what lies beyond has now got to board the one way ticket out of this life. And that’s scary. Not for the fear of what we may or may not experience after death but the fear of leaving everything we have ever known behind us. I know I’d be shit scared of prison; all the things that could happen to me. But at least with prison there is hope. There’s a fine glimmer of light somewhere at the end of the tunnel. One may be broken down to a mere sack of bones but there is still a chance a conviction can be overturned. But there’s none of that with death. You don’t come back. I guess if you think that deeply then death isn’t an easy option, but alas if you don’t feel that deep about it then yeah probably death is an easy way out after all.

If you did get past the security fence without being shot,
guards with dogs and machine guns tracked you down, and either killed you outright,
or brought you back.

There are actually 4 prisons in this location, ADX, two US Penitentiaries and a low security that houses short time mostly white collar criminals. There has been a few walk away from low security but not many. It would take a literal army to break him out of ADX, never going to happen!

@5:12 i love this so much . A man so powerful suddenly feels so powerless and weak.
El Chapo is just a fictional character to keep up all entertained.
Really?
He would not just bribe a guard, he would have the guard's family kidnapped or something like that.

prisons in the US can be owned by private persons and not the states. there for the prisoners can give the wardens money and they will live in luxury inside of the prison.
Untrue. The private prisons in the US are owned by companies, not people. These companies are contracted by the Federal Government and all employees are vetted in the same manner as Government employees.
@@dlbarton721 ye, but they are still not owned by the government. And it is not illegal for the prisoners to bribe the wardens for luxury

Isn't keeping a murderer alive an insult to the memory of their victims? The other bad thing about keeping them alive is their potential to get out. If you put a rabid dog down, it doesn't go on to bite anyone ever again.
I agree with you in principle, but our ideal is to be a nation of laws. He wasn’t sentenced to death, so we’re obligated to keep him alive so that his actual sentence can be carried out. If we carry out unlawful punishments just because of our passions, we’ll eventually destroy society.
Life in prison is more suffering that execution. If someone close gets killed, I want the murderer to rot in prison. Execution is the easy way out
@@absoliutenuds Exactly. Though executing criminals rebalances the scales of justice more quickly and satisfyingly, I’m sure being executed is a lot better than spending 60 years in that concrete coffin.
Who should put the rabid dog down
@Viva 1 I get what you’re saying but I don’t necessarily think execution is the easy way out.
