I think I held my breath. It just paralyzed me. The line: "But if there were no music, then I would not get through" -- just killed me, the best single line of lyric ever. Now I play this song in my sets and the women in the audience who "get" this song...they all cry. It's like...we just get it, this song is freaking epic. We all know where we were when we first heard it. And the feeling of it.

I just saw Shawn perform in a very small Vermont theater in front of less than 200 people on a cold March night. What a fabulously pure voice! She sang/played an incredible adaptation of Gnarls Barkley's "Crazy" that revealed just another great talent of this fine artist. A tremendous evening with a wonderful musician!

Although this song was written by Colvin, it was Alison Krauss who was the original. Both versions were released in 1992 but Krauss was released in February while Colvin in October.
