Food Wishes - Chef John turning up on an old video, it’s like a royal visit! First time I made this it came out too wet because I didn’t follow your instructions exactly, hopefully I have learnt my lesson not to improvise - other than cutting down the amount of sugar. Thanks for the recipe, it is the best banana loaf.
I want to complain about this banana loaf recipe. I have made this many times now and it is volatile. Each time I have made it it has evaporated within a day , I make it, I put it on the cooling rack and then it just disappears!
just made with chef john's ingredient along with almonds, shredded coconut and a splash of whipping cream.. the whole house smells so delicious and it came out awesome!
First baking attempt in years. I tried this recipe tonight, worried if I would screw up. But at the end of it, while I'm slicing this, I feel so good about myself. Thankyou Chef John🙏🏽 Top-notch!
Made this delicious recipe 2x in the last few weeks, Omitted the chocolate and added a cup of dried cranberries instead. Also only used 2/3 cup of sugar. Great with a hot cup of coffee. Thanks Chef!
I found this video yesterday & made it without the chocolate chips as my husband requested. It is truly THE BEST banana bread I’ve ever made or eaten!!! I’ve never been happy with a banana bread recipe till now. Absolutely perfect, thank you Chef John!
Why do I venture out and try other banana bread recipes?! Only to return to Chef John's recipe that has always been successful each time I have tried it. Just made a loaf and got it out of the oven a minute ago. Can't wait to dig in.
This has become my go to banana bread recipe. Every time I see bananas on my counter getting really ripe, I will make this. I will eat the whole loaf in two days. I feel bad, but hey, I can always make another one!
@anime train. I tried this and it is9 a awesome! I too made this and in 2 ☆1/2 days ate it all by myself. I know that's bad but it was oh so good. This little piggy stayed home and ate up all the banana bread😚 lol
Oh my Chef John...this IS the BEST banana bread recipe ever...ok...I omitted the chocolate chips...COVID 20lbs...and had to substitute the walnuts for pecans...after all I be teachin what you preachin. 🙏. Amen.
I made this. It was amazing. I had to make a few substitutions based on my pantry. I did this on a whim. Instead of chocolate morsels I used a Hersey bar and I didn't have walnuts so I added a natures path peanut butter granola bar. OMG!!! Amazing!
I've made this sooo many times and printed out the recipe but I still have to watch your video everytime I watch it 😄 It doesn't feel right if I dont anytime I make something from your channel. Thank you for sharing your gift with us 💜
I’m exactly the same 😂 I can make biscotti blindfolded but ALWAYS pull up Chef John’s almond biscotti video because it just turns out better with him directing me as I go 👍🏽
I just made this - added chopped pecans walnuts and almonds plus a touch of powdered spices ( ginger cinnamon cardamom cloves ) Added a little maple syrup too. Omg the best recipe of banana bread i ever made. I used a food processor and mixed it - Thanks chef !
I just took my bread out the oven, and cut a slice! It's moist and delicious! I tried three other recipes, but failed! Thank you sooo much for this recipe!!!
Just made this - it is fantastic. He is right, just go for the hour and ten minutes and you'll be good. I ditched the walnuts and added a ton of chocolate chips. Very happy.
I tried this today with the recipe he had except i used 2 1/2 cups of flour cause it looked watery to me after the mix. The chocolate chips give the banana bread an extra kick. Chef John is the man!
"No giant bananas that make people blush in the checkout line." Man I'm not even gonna make this, I just watch your videos for this kind of stuff. That, and food porn obviously.
I worked briefly at a check out.... best moment ever was a diminutive oriental lady showing up with a large diacon radish and a pkg of condoms. Of course right behind her in the line up had to be two young university students. After she'd left we all cracked up and it took a while to settle down. Priceless.
Just made this yesterday and it came out amazing. I added a bit more dark chocolate and used half white sugar half brown sugar. The banana bread is moist and really flavourful. Thanks for the recipe! :D
i went with half macadamia nuts half walnuts, and i must say i was somewhat skeptical about the random chocolate addition but it actually added a delicious zing to the banana bread! Other recipes tend to end up dry or overly sweet, however this recipe filled my home with a pleasant aroma, and gave me a moist/fragrant banana bread with a subtle sweetness that compliments the irresistible flavor. (im munching on a piece as i type this lol) THANK YOU CHEF JOHN :D
Sorry, english: I really like this recipe. I just mande few changes, instead of 1 cup white sugar I used half os brown sugar. Instead of chocolate added some berries. And I made a mix of almonds, walnuts and hazelnut. Delicious! Plus a pinch cinnamon.
Just made this delicious banana bread following your recipe, except i added 5 bananas instead of 3, worked out really well! My husband loved it with a cup of Turkish tea. Thank u Chef John!
3rd time making it ...works as muffins also ...i put less than half cup of coconut sugar and with 1 table spoon of margarine insted Perfect evertime ..Thank chef
Just made this. Needless is to say that it is delicious. My only note would be to be careful with the sugar amount. Perhaps half a cup instead of 1 full cup. Anyways love your recipes Chef John. I'm indeed enjoying it.
Sharon, yeah, the more brown and ripe the bananas, the sweeter they are, thus you need less sugar. If my bananas aren't brown enough when I want banana bread, I brown them in the oven or the microwave.
That's right, I used half a cup of granulated white sugar and half a cup of whole cane sugar, which is about 2/3 as sweet as the white one. But it surely depends on how ripe your bananas are and, of course, how sweet you want this to be! I havr to say that the ones I made with less sugar than demanded in the recipes, actually always turned out to taste sweet enough already :)
I just did mine and it's absolutely delicious! I used brown sugar, which made more difficult to cream the butter but less sweet as a result (exactly as I wanted), and darker in colour, and substituted the cholocate chips for cranberries. I also blended the walnuts for a smoother texture. Absolutely delicious!
I also made this and it's just so perfect! Right when it came out of the oven I brushed it with a very small amount of melted butter and sprinkled cinnamon sugar on it! YUM!! Thanks Chef John!
I used this recipe just this past Saturday. It wasn't as sweet as I was expecting it to be, but I think I like it that way. Also, I need to exhibit some patience, as I didn't wait for it to FULLY cool down and I cut into it and I now have banana nut "crumble." It's still pretty dang delicious though. So thank you, Chef John.
So, I just doubled this recipe and put faith into Chef John this banana bread would be a winner...and boy am I glad I did!! I had 8 super ripe bananas, and decided to give this recipe a try. My loaves just came out of the oven, and I sliced one of them..so moist, so light, but- ever so slightly decadent. I recommend everyone to try this recipe, even my grandma loved it!!!!!! And she's one to stay away from sweets. Perfectly sweeten and balanced, (: GO CHEF JOHN!!
Just made this with my homemade gluten free cake flour(oat flour, coconut flour, brown rice flour, xanthan gun). Delicious!! Everyone loves it, it's so moist than no one can tell its made of whole grain. I also substituted stevia for sugar, added 6 tbsp Greek yogurt because coconut flour absorbs so many water.
I only had cupcake liners and a cupcake pan so I decided to bake them like that. Best decision ever! I noticed that the bread didn’t rise much so I filled the liners all the way to the top. I filled 15 of them and they were done in about 40 minutes. The tops came out slightly crispy and I love that. They are really delicious!
I've made this a few times, always came out great. Today I had an oops, thought I would have ruined it. My bottle of vanilla was right next to the apple cider vinegar and looks almost the same, so before I realized I grabbed the wrong bottle, the batter got vinegar. I did add the vanilla, figuring I might as well finish it since I used all the other ingredients already. No difference in flavor, bubbled over a bit during baking, and the consistency is lighter and fluffier. I might be on to something here.
I watched someone else on RUclips have a workaround for a recipe that called for buttermilk. She said add some vinegar to the regular milk instead. Essentially it sounds like you used the buttermilk equivalent in yours when you accidentally spilled the vinegar in
Just made this it is delicious!!! I did not add vanilla, but I did add cinnamon and a few raisins I had on hand my family loved it thanks for this video :)
Belhaven Black Scotish Stout, Fuller's Black Cab or even Fuller's London Porter. Belfast Stout (I think it's a czech one) is also a reasonable choice. The beer I had was homemade, somewhat like a Guinness, but less bitter and with very strong coffee and cocoa notes. Shouldn't be to cold, though.
Just I'm eating a slice now .. so delicious .. i replaced the butter with a 1/2 cup of canola oil and it came out perfect 😍 .. thank you for the recipe 🌻
Banana Bread Ingredients: 3 ripe bananas 2 cups all-purpose flour 1 tsp salt 1 tsp baking powder 1 tsp baking soda 1/2 cup soft butter 1 cup sugar 2 large eggs 1/4 tsp vanilla 1 tbsp milk 1 cup chopped walnuts 1/3 cup dark chocolate chips *Bake in a 9x4 loaf pan at 325 degrees F. for about 1 hour 10 minutes.
Tried this recipe with a little variation - 1 cup of almond flour in place of AP and Pecans instead of Walnut. Came out so moist and yummy! Thank you Chef! I always enjoy watching your videos.
Thank you!!! I have been searching for a classic banana bread recipe for years, and I finally found it :) The only change I made to the recipe is that I add 3/4 cup of brown sugar + 1/4 cup of white sugar (instead of the 1 cup of white sugar). I also didn't add the chocolate chips. Great recipe!
Thanks! This is great. Ive made it a couple of times and about to again. I live alone and this tends to get stale before I get through. But then it makes the best French toast!
This is an excellent recipe. Thanks so much chef John. Doing it for the 3rd time now. Done with & without chocolate chips, I prefer without. I'll add about 25% more walnuts to boost potassium & a cup of hydrolysed collagen for protein. Hopefully the protein won't make it go too hard 🤞
Julie Nolan, I know this was 11 months ago, but why do you think the dough would need to be thinner? Couldn't one just slice the banana bread thinner if one wanted thinner French toast banana bread?
I made this today and it was👌👌👌 my bananna's were really ripe and Instead of 1cup white sugar, I used 1/2cup of dark brown sugar. Sooo moist. Great recipe! A keeper going forward...
I've made this recipe several times over the past few years, it's always fantastic. I make it with whatever add ins I have (or don't have) on hand. It's great with just chocolate chips, just nuts, neither, some cinnamon, you can't go wrong. I usually halve the recipe so I won't be tempted to eat so much. I also cut out 1/4 cup of sugar, and it's still plenty sweet. I have some in the oven now at my daughter's request. 👍
Dear Chef John, this is my family s favorite banana bread recipe. I make it atleast once a week. Thank you for your great recipes. I ve tried many of them and I’m never disappointed!
its my first baking attempt and i want to tell you that it was perfect today and thanks to you, i was not expecting it as perfect as it was. thanks to you again
I wrote this recipe down a few months ago but haven't tried it. I am now. The butter is coming to room temp. as I write this. John, your recipes have never failed me. I've made more than a dozen of your recipes and they ALL came out so good without fail! Every time I want to try a new recipe, I tell the family, "It's from Chef John" and I have their full support. (They're not big on trying new things) I make Rusty Chicken Thighs once a week and whenever I make mashed potatoes, they're your Ultra Luxurious Mashed Potatoes. Your biscuits, bread, deserts and main courses are THE BEST! With heart-felt gratitude, I thank you for sharing!
Hey, Chef John….. love your channel! I made this recipe, but didn’t have but two bananas. So I mashed them, measured them, and added the same amount of crushed, drained pineapple. It came out delish! The two flavors really complimented each other.
Best recipes out there. Every recipe from Chef John has been a complete success so far. Just one thing: i usually cut down the sugar in half, and this one was no exception. I used half a cup of brown sugar instead of the 1 cup white sugar and it turned out plenty sweet. I also used half spelt/half white flour to make it a bit "healthier". Spelt works great with banana bread. (you can use all spelt too and it will still be awesome) But overall ratios are spot on and this is the closest to "classic" banana bread I've gotten.
Thanks for the great banana bread loaf chef john. Made it here in Australia yesterday and it was amazing. The first thing I have ever baked. Surprisingly it is so much better the day after I made it.
I made this last night, it turned out wonderful and yummy. Although when I add the mashed banana to the butter sugar mix. It was very watery ( liquidly) I didn't add milk or vanilla extract, once I add my dry ingredients into the mixture it got thicker which is how it suppose to be. Taste wonderful, my family loves it. Thanks again.. CJ ( Chef John). ;)
Make muffins, not war! LOVE this recipe! Like someone else suggested on the Allrecipes posting, I made it into muffins so I'm sharing that. First time I followed the recipe exactly and made 12 muffins, baked at 350°F for 18 minutes. Perfect light & fluffy banana muffins. This time I put more like 3/4 cup of chocolate chips in them and they took 21 minutes to reach perfection. No fear to heap the whole bowl into just 12 regular muffin wells. I saw another poster made 14 or 16, maybe fearing they wouldn't cook right through. They did. Tempted to call them Fluffins instead of muffins!
Just made this! The house smells wonderfull! I used organic unbleached APF and bananas so ripe they were black skinned and full of sugars on the inside. Loaf appears to be much darker but it is grand! Thanks Chef John!
Not the greatest fan of banana bread generally, but this version truly is the best I have ever tasted. Anyone considering skipping the chocolate or the walnuts please don't, they really make this cake. Now a regular item in our household, you can't get a better recommendation than that.
Okay seriously this is the best banana bread I've come by chef John. I made it tonight and couldn't stop eating it. I had to bring it to my friends.. Who LOVED it!! I did alter one ingredient though. I used semi sweet chocolate, rather than dark. Still delicious ! And very moist. Thank you for the recipe. :)

No only is Chef John a wonderful chef with an arsenal of fabulous recipes and culinary techniques; he is a poet and a comedian.
I want to complain about this banana loaf recipe. I have made this many times now and it is volatile. Each time I have made it it has evaporated within a day , I make it, I put it on the cooling rack and then it just disappears!
Chef John would approve of your humor
just made with chef john's ingredient along with almonds, shredded coconut and a splash of whipping cream.. the whole house smells so delicious and it came out awesome!
I'm jealous!
Yesssssss I was gonna put shredded coconut in mine too! About to make it now
How about half a cup of crushed pineapple ??

Yes very satisfying to finally get around to trying something and have it turn out well!
I pressed 'like' right after you said "because they're all...not as good as this one" :D
I did the exact same thing.
Made this delicious recipe 2x in the last few weeks, Omitted the chocolate and added a cup of dried cranberries instead. Also only used 2/3 cup of sugar. Great with a hot cup of coffee. Thanks Chef!
I only use half a cup of sugar but the cranberries probably need the extra

You are the best and the funniest youtuber chef ever!

I would consider Chef Jean Pierre equally as funny, or perhaps funnier since its not as rehearsed.

When you said "And you know what's comin' next," I thought "Cayenne?"
Tried this recipe tonight. Added 1/2 cup of brown sugar and 1/4 cup cane sugar and it came out perfect!
You should try that with beer if you don't like coffee and sweets. Beer and sweet things make a great combination.
Especially a very dark, malty and slightly bitter stout with a rich chocolate mousse!
I'll have to try that. Might not be that easy to find a decent stout in Austria though. Can you recommend a good one?
Belhaven Black Scotish Stout, Fuller's Black Cab or even Fuller's London Porter. Belfast Stout (I think it's a czech one) is also a reasonable choice. The beer I had was homemade, somewhat like a Guinness, but less bitter and with very strong coffee and cocoa notes. Shouldn't be to cold, though.

I just made this today, without the vanilla and walnuts. I must say, it came out beautifully and even tasted better. Thank you, chef john :)
To kick this up a notch, I use mini Reese’s peanut butter cups instead of chocolate chips
Whoa
I made this and it was balling! I have been eating for breakfast all week. Love you Chef John!
"Make people blush at the checkout line." Oh god.... 😭
Just made this and it is unbelievably DELICIOUS. I didn't add walnuts coz I forgot, but the bits of dark chocolate is just WOW. Thank you!!!
Banana Bread Ingredients:
3 ripe bananas
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp salt
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 cup soft butter
1 cup sugar
2 large eggs
1/4 tsp vanilla
1 tbsp milk
1 cup chopped walnuts
1/3 cup dark chocolate chips
*Bake in a 9x4 loaf pan at 325 degrees F. for about 1 hour 10 minutes.

That's right! ;)
Thanks! This is great. Ive made it a couple of times and about to again. I live alone and this tends to get stale before I get through. But then it makes the best French toast!

Has anyone tried to make French toast with banana bread?
Markens Thelusma sounds delish! I think the dough would need to be thinner though! You're thoughts?
Julie Nolan, I know this was 11 months ago, but why do you think the dough would need to be thinner? Couldn't one just slice the banana bread thinner if one wanted thinner French toast banana bread?
Lynn Wilhoite I think she meant thinner as in less dense, not just a thin slice.
@Dubai Girl. Ah, that makes more sense! Haha, thanks. 😳
Dear Chef John...your recipe clicked and people loved banana bread. Bless you
you sound like my dentist lol! even cracks cheesy jokes too lol! ;)
I made this today and it was👌👌👌 my bananna's were really ripe and Instead of 1cup white sugar, I used 1/2cup of dark brown sugar. Sooo moist. Great recipe! A keeper going forward...
It killed me when he didn't take the stringy bit off that first banana he put in the bowl.
who cares when u gonna smash them anyway!
it won't really matter. It all cooks up. Not at all like stringy Yams/Sweet Potatoes!
I paused the video and checked the comments just to see if anyone else was bothered by the banana strings!
@@2dasimmons You’re absolutely right. But this isn’t about taste - it’s about deep, ingrained OCD

Wow Humor and Cooking!! Doesn't get any better than that. Thanks Chef John.
its my first baking attempt and i want to tell you that it was perfect today and thanks to you, i was not expecting it as perfect as it was. thanks to you again
Just finsihed mine and I nailed it. And as always.....Thank you chef john for recipe and the lessons.
Tried this recipe, and this was by far the best banana bread that I've ever tasted. Do make!
Hands down best banana bread I’ve tried - and I’ve tried a lot. Perfection!
thank you for your talent and humor, you make cooking so fun and easy.after watching you I want to cook everyday.
I have seen a ton of different banana bread recipes, but i'm gonna go with this one, coz I trust Chef John
(you can use all spelt too and it will still be awesome)
But overall ratios are spot on and this is the closest to "classic" banana bread I've gotten.
I've tried different recipes from everyone else, this one is the best by far. By far.
Kathleen Craig you are a gift!! I was scrolling for a comment saying anything and you are the only one. I hope life is amazing for you (:
Just made this! The house smells wonderfull! I used organic unbleached APF and bananas so ripe they were black skinned and full of sugars on the inside. Loaf appears to be much darker but it is grand! Thanks Chef John!
Aw a
Not the greatest fan of banana bread generally, but this version truly is the best I have ever tasted. Anyone considering skipping the chocolate or the walnuts please don't, they really make this cake. Now a regular item in our household, you can't get a better recommendation than that.
Made this last night with out the nuts, it was amazing! Sweet but not too sweet and moist! Awesome! Thank you so much!
Great recipe. Noting to add or remove. Perfection. Easily and predictably repeatable. Thank You Chef John!
