Food Wishes - Chef John turning up on an old video, it’s like a royal visit!
First time I made this it came out too wet because I didn’t follow your instructions exactly, hopefully I have learnt my lesson not to improvise - other than cutting down the amount of sugar. Thanks for the recipe, it is the best banana loaf.

I want to complain about this banana loaf recipe. I have made this many times now and it is volatile. Each time I have made it it has evaporated within a day , I make it, I put it on the cooling rack and then it just disappears!

i went with half macadamia nuts half walnuts, and i must say i was somewhat skeptical about the random chocolate addition but it actually added a delicious zing to the banana bread! Other recipes tend to end up dry or overly sweet, however this recipe filled my home with a pleasant aroma, and gave me a moist/fragrant banana bread with a subtle sweetness that compliments the irresistible flavor. (im munching on a piece as i type this lol)
    THANK YOU CHEF JOHN :D

Sharon, yeah, the more brown and ripe the bananas, the sweeter they are, thus you need less sugar. If my bananas aren't brown enough when I want banana bread, I brown them in the oven or the microwave.

    • @Raachen
      @Raachen 6 лет назад +1

That's right, I used half a cup of granulated white sugar and half a cup of whole cane sugar, which is about 2/3 as sweet as the white one. But it surely depends on how ripe your bananas are and, of course, how sweet you want this to be! I havr to say that the ones I made with less sugar than demanded in the recipes, actually always turned out to taste sweet enough already :)

I just did mine and it's absolutely delicious! I used brown sugar, which made more difficult to cream the butter but less sweet as a result (exactly as I wanted), and darker in colour, and substituted the cholocate chips for cranberries. I also blended the walnuts for a smoother texture. Absolutely delicious!

I used this recipe just this past Saturday. It wasn't as sweet as I was expecting it to be, but I think I like it that way. Also, I need to exhibit some patience, as I didn't wait for it to FULLY cool down and I cut into it and I now have banana nut "crumble." It's still pretty dang delicious though. So thank you, Chef John.

So, I just doubled this recipe and put faith into Chef John this banana bread would be a winner...and boy am I glad I did!! I had 8 super ripe bananas, and decided to give this recipe a try. My loaves just came out of the oven, and I sliced one of them..so moist, so light, but- ever so slightly decadent. I recommend everyone to try this recipe, even my grandma loved it!!!!!! And she's one to stay away from sweets. Perfectly sweeten and balanced, (: GO CHEF JOHN!!

I only had cupcake liners and a cupcake pan so I decided to bake them like that. Best decision ever! I noticed that the bread didn’t rise much so I filled the liners all the way to the top. I filled 15 of them and they were done in about 40 minutes. The tops came out slightly crispy and I love that. They are really delicious!

I've made this a few times, always came out great. Today I had an oops, thought I would have ruined it. My bottle of vanilla was right next to the apple cider vinegar and looks almost the same, so before I realized I grabbed the wrong bottle, the batter got vinegar. I did add the vanilla, figuring I might as well finish it since I used all the other ingredients already. No difference in flavor, bubbled over a bit during baking, and the consistency is lighter and fluffier. I might be on to something here.

I watched someone else on RUclips have a workaround for a recipe that called for buttermilk. She said add some vinegar to the regular milk instead. Essentially it sounds like you used the buttermilk equivalent in yours when you accidentally spilled the vinegar in

Belhaven Black Scotish Stout, Fuller's Black Cab or even Fuller's London Porter. Belfast Stout (I think it's a czech one) is also a reasonable choice. The beer I had was homemade, somewhat like a Guinness, but less bitter and with very strong coffee and cocoa notes. Shouldn't be to cold, though.

    Chocolate Banana bread with nuts
SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY

  • @cleverasaurus

I've made this recipe several times over the past few years, it's always fantastic. I make it with whatever add ins I have (or don't have) on hand. It's great with just chocolate chips, just nuts, neither, some cinnamon, you can't go wrong. I usually halve the recipe so I won't be tempted to eat so much. I also cut out 1/4 cup of sugar, and it's still plenty sweet. I have some in the oven now at my daughter's request. 👍

I wrote this recipe down a few months ago but haven't tried it. I am now. The butter is coming to room temp. as I write this. John, your recipes have never failed me. I've made more than a dozen of your recipes and they ALL came out so good without fail! Every time I want to try a new recipe, I tell the family, "It's from Chef John" and I have their full support. (They're not big on trying new things) I make Rusty Chicken Thighs once a week and whenever I make mashed potatoes, they're your Ultra Luxurious Mashed Potatoes. Your biscuits, bread, deserts and main courses are THE BEST! With heart-felt gratitude, I thank you for sharing!

Hey, Chef John….. love your channel!
I made this recipe, but didn’t have but two bananas. So I mashed them, measured them, and added the same amount of crushed, drained pineapple. It came out delish! The two flavors really complimented each other.

Best recipes out there. Every recipe from Chef John has been a complete success so far.
Just one thing: i usually cut down the sugar in half, and this one was no exception.
I used half a cup of brown sugar instead of the 1 cup white sugar and it turned out plenty sweet.
I also used half spelt/half white flour to make it a bit "healthier". Spelt works great with banana bread. (you can use all spelt too and it will still be awesome)
But overall ratios are spot on and this is the closest to "classic" banana bread I've gotten.

Thanks for the great banana bread loaf chef john. Made it here in Australia yesterday and it was amazing. The first thing I have ever baked. Surprisingly it is so much better the day after I made it.

I made this last night, it turned out wonderful and yummy. Although when I add the mashed banana to the butter sugar mix. It was very watery ( liquidly) I didn't add milk or vanilla extract, once I add my dry ingredients into the mixture it got thicker which is how it suppose to be. Taste wonderful, my family loves it. Thanks again.. CJ ( Chef John). ;)

Make muffins, not war! LOVE this recipe! Like someone else suggested on the Allrecipes posting, I made it into muffins so I'm sharing that. First time I followed the recipe exactly and made 12 muffins, baked at 350°F for 18 minutes. Perfect light & fluffy banana muffins. This time I put more like 3/4 cup of chocolate chips in them and they took 21 minutes to reach perfection. No fear to heap the whole bowl into just 12 regular muffin wells. I saw another poster made 14 or 16, maybe fearing they wouldn't cook right through. They did. Tempted to call them Fluffins instead of muffins!

Just made this! The house smells wonderfull! I used organic unbleached APF and bananas so ripe they were black skinned and full of sugars on the inside. Loaf appears to be much darker but it is grand! Thanks Chef John!

Not the greatest fan of banana bread generally, but this version truly is the best I have ever tasted. Anyone considering skipping the chocolate or the walnuts please don't, they really make this cake. Now a regular item in our household, you can't get a better recommendation than that.

Okay seriously this is the best banana bread I've come by chef John. I made it tonight and couldn't stop eating it. I had to bring it to my friends.. Who LOVED it!! I did alter one ingredient though. I used semi sweet chocolate, rather than dark. Still delicious ! And very moist. Thank you for the recipe. :)
