You have it in the wrong order. No one made up a religion and then a story to prove it. The disciples ran for their lives after Jesus was killed but fearlessly preached that they saw him later despite the continued risk.
Risen indeed, in my dealings with other religions other gods (demons) scream in fear during exorcisms. They are scared of the name of Jesus. He is alive.

At least twice my pastor was told by the doctors he was days, if not hours, away from death due to stage IV leukemia. He is now 6 years cancer free, and they have no explanation. I worked at the cancer hospital at the time so I got to see him at those worst moments. Praise God, he is now able to tell everyone of God’s mercy.
So, you have no medican explanation to his healing, therefore god ? Statistically speaking, healing from such diseases is very very unlikely, but never completely impossible. Let's say it's 1 in a million. Well guess what, your pastor survived, and a million others died from this same disease. So that just means it's something very rare but not impossible. Where's god in all that ? Every time something unlikely happens, it's because of god ? And when something likely happens too, it's because of god also ? If he had died, would it have been because of god ?
And why does God not heal everyone that is sick and dying so that they may believe and testify? Why does God heal your aunt Martha of her shingles while millions of kids die of hunger and/or lack of clean water?

It's not really that old as it's an exact revised copy, but I've got several from the 1700s. I'm currently reading from an 1826, which is by my side as now. Not only did it spread rapidly, but it also utterly usurped the former religious system. It did so while the vast majority of its adherents were under persecution. It spread unlike Islam without any form of military conquest. Jesus Christ had so much impact on society, that history is divided into two categories BC and AD. This year 2024 is called this year because Jesus had an unprecedented impact on western society.

I once saw someone one Instagram claim that there is more evidence that Merlin existed than Jesus. David's statement about people "learning" about Christianity from social media was spot on
As an atheist, faith seemed so stupid to me. Even as a beginning Christian I always wondered why there is such an emphasis on faith. I realized that as finite creatures, all of our deepest beliefs can only ever be taken on faith. To say you don't need faith is to put yourself on the level of God, the eternal one. One day you woke up in a strange world, not knowing really where you came from. Everything you believe about the world, at it's deepest level, requires faith. It is a logical necessity for created finite creatures. And this is something that is understood by the Bible, even though the pride of humanity denies it. The fact that it is so foundational that so many can't see it, and yet the Bible beats us over the head with it, shows an incredible amount of wisdom. Atheists will tell you, it's only about evidence, but of course they only accept evidence or explanations that fits their worldview. That is their pride talking. They are totally fine with any and all explanations that fit the worldview they have faith in, so they are happy to follow the evidence wherever it leads, as long as it fits their faith. If it is outside their faith, then it doesn't count. This is why Peter Boghossian said a week ago on his youtube channel that he wouldn't even count God writing it in the sky for all to see, with the clarification that it was actually written in the sky and it wasn't drug induced or an hallucination, it really was there. He said it could be "time travellers" or "alien tricksters". See in his worldview it cannot be God because that doesn't exist, so it has to have another explanation because naturalism is the only game in town. Or think of Peter Atkins who said that even if he died and saw the christian afterlife he would think he had gone mad. See even if you saw it in front of your eyes, you appeared before God himself, you would still have to have faith that what you were seeing was actually real and not insanity. If you do not have faith that God exists then there is literally no evidence that can be shown to you that would convince you, because you could always chalk it up to madness, because what is more likely, that God actually exists and is showing himself to you, or you had gone mad? On the atheistic worldview, any explanation no matter how insane will always be more plausible than the impossible. As created beings, faith is the necessary foundation of human existence.
I am certain that when an atheist comes face to face with his Creator, all doubts and questions cease in an instant because in His presence, none can exist
I don't believe in God but these last few years have been weird for me as I began to distance myself from other atheists due to their secondary beliefs, which I came to realize are not that secondary. In other words, when an atheist fella accuses you of being a christian because you don't like abortion, then you know you're dealing with an ideologue, but for some reason modern-day atheists have convinced themselves they are made of pure logic while everyone else is biased.
@SeabraPaulo, One thing I’ve noticed is that if humans don’t have a higher power to focus on they tend to create one of their own making (Christian theology would call it fashioning a false idol). You’re always welcome to listen to/learn about the Bible and the Gospel even if you don’t currently believe. It can be life changing by its principles alone. Most Christians are probably happy to recommend resources too.

I don't know why American atheists are so militant but I don't live in America. I'm quite happy here just being an agnostic. However, I don't believe the mythology of the ancient Hebrews just like I don't believe the mythology of the first peoples of my country. They are mostly beautiful stories though. (...except the parts where lots of people die in the mythology of the ancient Hebrews. Stories about mass death don't seem to happen much in the mythologies of first peoples. Daughters go up into the sky to be stars, etc., there.)

@@Simon.the.Likeable A difference with your mythologies is that Christ is actually connected to historical man, and it was so since the beginning. There was no transition. Immediately after the crucifixion people started following the Crucified God. What any ancient historian might tell you is that they always put mythology and philosophy in different categories. Philosophy being anything where you use the brain, like history and science. The Roman Empire in the 1st century was swarming with atheists and agnostics (who went in various philosophies like the Epicureans and the Stoics). There's a running trope in Imperial times that no one REALLY believed in the gods. Mythology ≠ Philosophy was ALWAYS the case. Except here. If there's anything unique about Christ is that his story shook the world and pretended to unite what was like oil and water. I urge you to read Orthodoxy by Chesterton. If you ultimately disagree, fine, but give it a try. It's a very enjoyable read, you'll laugh your butt off. The Everlasting Man by Chesterton is even better but it's better to start with Orthodoxy. I'm serious. Download it. It's almost 100 years old so the language may be a bit difficult, but it's FANTASTIC.
I had meningitis about 5 years ago, (it's ok I recovered), but during that time my brain was all over the place and I had a hallucination that my friend's cat was walking down the hospital wards. I can assure you hallucinations are not shared experiences, no-one else saw the cat. In addition none of those around me at the time were prepared to risk prison, torture or death to testify that they had seen the cat. Funny that......
I’m currently writing on the historical Jesus, to the claim he, in fact, existed. And it’s hard to get compelling arguments, when virtually every historian of antiquity affirm this fact. Even Bart Erhman confirms the historical reliability of the Gospels.

"This is how we know who the children of God are and who the children of the devil are: Anyone who does not do what is right is not God's child, nor is anyone who does not love their brother or sister." - 1 John 3:10 This is one of the General Epistles, intended for all Christians forever. I'm not saying to be perfect immediately. The Bible teaches sanctification is a process aided by the grace of God, but it's something that's part and parcel of the Christian journey. Do your best to sin no more, and God will do the rest.
Also romans used to end crucified victims by breaking their legs, because they would need to push on the them to lift themselves up every time they needed to breathe, and they would have eventually died of fatigue and suffocation. There's also proof of it in the gospel of John and it's absolutely historically accurate (John 19:32)

His scepticism about the Resurrection led to him becoming known as 'Doubting Thomas'. Thomas was convinced that Jesus was alive, and also that He was God. He stated, “Unless I see and unless I can touch the evidence, I will never believe”. After the resurrection and ascension of Jesus, Thomas went to Babylon and established the first Christian Church in that country. He preached the Gospel in Persia, China, and India, and was evangelizing in India when he became a martyr, (many believe) on December 21st. "The dead are not alive, and the living will not die"
Jesus is not God. He is God's Son. Why would Thomas think Jesus is God when he would have heard Jesus not long before, say " ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father and to my God and your God.’” (John 20:17)? And another time Jesus spoke the words: "This means everlasting life, their coming to know you, the only true God, and the one whom you sent, Jesus Christ." (John 17:3) "YOU, the ONLY true God". Not 'us', not 'we'. Jesus clearly differentiates himself from the Father. There are other places in the NT also where Jesus calls his Father HIS God.

You will need to remind me which verse you are referring to re: Peter. (Matthew 16?) As to your other references, I'm not sure why you think Christ = God at Mark 1:1 and Matthew 1:16. John 1:1 has serious questions as to it's accuracy. There is an issue around 1st Century Greek not having indefinite articles ('a', 'an') and the likelihood that confirmation bias played a part in it's usual rendition when we also read "the Word was WITH God". Jesus NEVER claimed to be God. In John 10 when accused of making himself God or equal with God - depending which translation you read - (Philippians 2:6 refutes the idea anyway) he refuted the Pharisees by saying only that he was God's Son. (John 10:36) Another time he was served up an opportunity on a silver plate to say he was God was at Matthew 16:15-17: "He said to them: “You, though, who do you say I am?” 16 Simon Peter answered: “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” 17 In response Jesus said to him: “Happy you are, Simon son of Joʹnah, because flesh and blood did not reveal it to you, but my Father in the heavens did." Not only did it spread rapidly, but it also utterly usurped the former religious system. It did so while the vast majority of its adherents were under persecution. It spread unlike Islam without any form of military conquest. Jesus Christ had so much impact on society, that history is divided into two categories BC and AD. This year 2024 is called this year because Jesus had an unprecedented impact on western society.

As an atheist, faith seemed so stupid to me. Even as a beginning Christian I always wondered why there is such an emphasis on faith. I realized that as finite creatures, all of our deepest beliefs can only ever be taken on faith. To say you don't need faith is to put yourself on the level of God, the eternal one. One day you woke up in a strange world, not knowing really where you came from. Everything you believe about the world, at it's deepest level, requires faith. It is a logical necessity for created finite creatures. And this is something that is understood by the Bible, even though the pride of humanity denies it. The fact that it is so foundational that so many can't see it, and yet the Bible beats us over the head with it, shows an incredible amount of wisdom. Atheists will tell you, it's only about evidence, but of course they only accept evidence or explanations that fits their worldview. That is their pride talking. They are totally fine with any and all explanations that fit the worldview they have faith in, so they are happy to follow the evidence wherever it leads, as long as it fits their faith. If it is outside their faith, then it doesn't count. This is why Peter Boghossian said a week ago on his youtube channel that he wouldn't even count God writing it in the sky for all to see, with the clarification that it was actually written in the sky and it wasn't drug induced or an hallucination, it really was there. He said it could be "time travellers" or "alien tricksters". See in his worldview it cannot be God because that doesn't exist, so it has to have another explanation because naturalism is the only game in town. Or think of Peter Atkins who said that even if he died and saw the christian afterlife he would think he had gone mad. See even if you saw it in front of your eyes, you appeared before God himself, you would still have to have faith that what you were seeing was actually real and not insanity. If you do not have faith that God exists then there is literally no evidence that can be shown to you that would convince you, because you could always chalk it up to madness, because what is more likely, that God actually exists and is showing himself to you, or you had gone mad? On the atheistic worldview, any explanation no matter how insane will always be more plausible than the impossible. As created beings, faith is the necessary foundation of human existence.

I don't believe in God but these last few years have been weird for me as I began to distance myself from other atheists due to their secondary beliefs, which I came to realize are not that secondary. In other words, when an atheist fella accuses you of being a christian because you don't like abortion, then you know you're dealing with an ideologue, but for some reason modern-day atheists have convinced themselves they are made of pure logic while everyone else is biased.
@SeabraPaulo, One thing I’ve noticed is that if humans don’t have a higher power to focus on they tend to create one of their own making (Christian theology would call it fashioning a false idol).
You’re always welcome to listen to/learn about the Bible and the Gospel even if you don’t currently believe. It can be life changing by its principles alone. Most Christians are probably happy to recommend resources too.

However, I don't believe the mythology of the ancient Hebrews just like I don't believe the mythology of the first peoples of my country. They are mostly beautiful stories though. (...except the parts where lots of people die in the mythology of the ancient Hebrews. Stories about mass death don't seem to happen much in the mythologies of first peoples. What any ancient historian might tell you is that they always put mythology and philosophy in different categories. Philosophy being anything where you use the brain, like history and science.
The Roman Empire in the 1st century was swarming with atheists and agnostics (who went in various philosophies like the Epicureans and the Stoics). There's a running trope in Imperial times that no one REALLY believed in the gods.
Mythology ≠ Philosophy was ALWAYS the case. Except here. If there's anything unique about Christ is that his story shook the world and pretended to unite what was like oil and water.
I urge you to read Orthodoxy by Chesterton. If you ultimately disagree, fine, but give it a try. It's a very enjoyable read, you'll laugh your butt off. The Everlasting Man by Chesterton is even better but it's better to start with Orthodoxy. I'm serious. Download it. It's almost 100 years old so the language may be a bit difficult, but it's FANTASTIC.

I’m currently writing on the historical Jesus, to the claim he, in fact, existed. And it’s hard to get compelling arguments, when virtually every historian of antiquity affirm this fact. Even Bart Erhman confirms the historical reliability of the Gospels.

This is one of the General Epistles, intended for all Christians forever.
I'm not saying to be perfect immediately. The Bible teaches sanctification is a process aided by the grace of God, but it's something that's part and parcel of the Christian journey. Do your best to sin no more, and God will do the rest.

Just fyi there were others who had been brought back to life after death, in both the Old and New Testaments. But Jesus was on a spiritual mission to die on our behalf and to destroy Satan, so that we can choose to be freed from the power of sin and death by believing in Jesus who is alive for evermore, for eternal life with God, instead of hell being inevitable.
My conversion was cemented by an actual appearance of Christ in front of my eyes. He didn’t speak he just simply revealed himself to me.

The famous story of St Thomas doubting Christ is found at the end of St John's Gospel. It tells of how the apostle demanded physical proof that Christ really had risen from the dead. His scepticism about the Resurrection led to him becoming known as 'Doubting Thomas'. Thomas was convinced that Jesus was alive, and also that He was God. He stated, “Unless I see and unless I can touch the evidence, I will never believe”.
After the resurrection and ascension of Jesus, Thomas went to Babylon and established the first Christian Church in that country. He preached the Gospel in Persia, China, and India, and was evangelizing in India when he became a martyr, (many believe) on December 21st.
"The dead are not alive, and the living will not die"
Jesus is not God. He is God's Son. Why would Thomas think Jesus is God when he would have heard Jesus not long before, say " ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father and to my God and your God.’” (John 20:17)? And another time Jesus spoke the words: "This means everlasting life, their coming to know you, the only true God, and the one whom you sent, Jesus Christ." (John 17:3) "YOU, the ONLY true God". Not 'us', not 'we'. Jesus clearly differentiates himself from the Father. There are other places in the NT also where Jesus calls his Father HIS God.

The Bible
The Bible says that Jesus is both God's Son and God himself. The Gospel of Mark calls Jesus both the Son of God and Christ in its opening words, and Matthew 1:16 also refers to Jesus as Christ. John 1:1 and 14 say that "The Word [Jesus] was God" and "the Word became flesh".
Jesus' actions
Jesus claimed to be God in many ways, including saying that he was the way, the truth, and the life. He also fulfilled prophecy, performed miracles, lived a sinless life, and was resurrected from the dead.
Others' testimony
The New Testament includes eyewitness testimony to Jesus' deity, such as when the Apostle Peter called Jesus "our God and Savior" and Thomas said "My Lord and my God!"

As to your other references, I'm not sure why you think Christ = God at Mark 1:1 and Matthew 1:16. John 1:1 has serious questions as to it's accuracy. There is an issue around 1st Century Greek not having indefinite articles ('a', 'an') and the likelihood that confirmation bias played a part in it's usual rendition when we also read "the Word was WITH God".
Jesus NEVER claimed to be God. In John 10 when accused of making himself God or equal with God - depending which translation you read - (Philippians 2:6 refutes the idea anyway) he refuted the Pharisees by saying only that he was God's Son. (John 10:36) Another time he was served up an opportunity on a silver plate to say he was God was at Matthew 16:15-17: "He said to them: “You, though, who do you say I am?” 16 Simon Peter answered: “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” 17 In response Jesus said to him: “Happy you are, Simon son of Joʹnah, because flesh and blood did not reveal it to you, but my Father in the heavens did."
Jesus was indeed the only sinless man who ever lived. But he was shielded in Mary's womb by holy spirit. He fulfilled prophecy, but so did others. Performed miracles, but so did others. Was resurrected from the dead, but so were others.
"Others testimony". The testimony supports my contention: That he was the Son of God. He was called that by the following:
Nathanael - John 1:49; Gabriel - Luke 1:35; Demons - Mark 3:11; Disciples - Matthew 14:33; Mark - Mark 1:1; Peter - Matthew 16:16; John the Baptizer - John 1:34; Martha - John 11:27; Roman Soldier - Matthew 27:54; Paul - Acts 9:20; John - 1 John 5:5; Jesus himself - Mark 14:61,62; John 3:16-18; 5:17,18; 10:36; 11:4; and the most reliable witness of all...God. At Jesus' baptism and at the transfiguration vision.
