He assumes that if God dies, then he must cease to exist. But he doesn't even believe that when people die they cease to exist. The three Persons of the Trinity are one being (God) with the same will, but distinct persons so we can say God sent Himself to die for us. The question is will you worship that God if you have have sufficient evidence that He is true?
