Thank you, thank you, thank you! The Elbow your Brother, Call your Mother tip is an awesome one... I have been swimming for more than 40 years and I never caught that little mistake that I have done all my life... until now; thank you again and keep the good work!
Thank you Chloe for the awesome videos! Truly appreciate it! I have improved tremendously from a newbie to a swimmer and tweaking my moves every time I hit the pool.
Chloe thank you for the video. These tips gave me a clear picture of what I have to do. Also I am struggling with butterfly catch mostly with my arms. Do you have any drills on how to build memory muscle so I can improve on that?
Hmm, I'm a triathlete who only do freestyle. Looks like a good open turn is almost as hard as a flip turn. Might start practice the flip, but still still give it a try! Awesome coaching.
Love your channel, I can´t afford a trainer; but there is a nice public pool, where I've been practicing. I watch all you videos and I learn a lot, I like specially the freestyle one, where you draw some lines with the directions of the arm, It was fantastic. I still cant swim with butterfly, but I will keep training.
Great tips. I can’t wait to try this tomorrow. But my problem whenever I turned heads up first is the water go to my nose. How to prevent this Chloe? Thanks for sharing.
Because turning face down (4:41) is inefficient and slows down your turn. It's much smoother and faster to twist onto your front *after* kicking off the wall when you're already in streamline.
The key for me was to keep the body horizontal and head facing down, even as you touch the wall with both hands. Don't lift your head or change your body position until you're done elbowing with one arm and driving your knees into your chest. This knee-drive curls your body up into a ball; this should be what gives your head and torso the momentum to "snap backward" into the water. Another key is to fix your eyes on the edge of the pool as soon as you start spinning backward. This helps keep your chin tucked, keeps you turning fast, and gives you the best breathing position before your head re-enters the water. Took me over a year to get the mechanics down; hope this helps.
Love the video. My daughter is an IMer with BR being her beat stroke. She hesitated on using the cross-over or bucket because it does not give her a chance for a full breath in order maximize her pullouts. Any suggestions? THX.
Yep, even though the flip turn in freestyle is obviously faster, open turns are nice for beginners in that they allow you take an extra breath. Also, open turns are easier to do in freestyle than in breaststroke or butterfly, since you only have to touch with one hand and you're already on your side. Here's a good tutorial for open turn in front crawl/freestyle: ruclips.net/video/iaX2p3XdwCQ/видео.html
this is awesome and look fwd to trying this as i do loose quite a bit of time with a poor turn. your channel is bloody epic and beautifully explained making it easy to learn from X
Great tips Chloe thanks for doing this - the 'not to do' section is all me ! :) When I followed videos to teach myself touch turns for front crawl (I'm rubbish at tumbling, long story ;) ) the instruction was to collapse all the way into the wall bending the arm right in - would you still recommend that for FC or to do the way you do as above ?
I would like to know as well. I guess it would be the same. You still need to use 2 hands on the wall to break the impact force and for a powerful push off the wall.
❤ this is such a great tutorial, like all of yours. that said, i do the 'wrong' turn around method because of a spinal condition, and somehow its 'safer' to put my back to the wall and do that and push off the wall straight on my stomach, as opposed to the twisting in streamline (for me a very dangerous and painful move that has already proven to be problematic) from side to stomach. also, my wall push offs are weak, lame, and ineffective anyway, because of the aforementioned spinal situation, and i cant push too hard without potential damage or self injury. in fact, its faster for me to actually swim than to streamline in most cases, especially freestyle. in any case, im old and broken and wont be competition swimming anyway, aside from anyone in the lane next to me from kids to elders (either gender, doesn't matter who or what, although if you are male be sure ill be bringing it with even more aggressiveness) if i see something moving im going to race it) who DO NOT WANT A PIECE OF THIS, trust me, at least for a 25 yard length anyway :)
Hi. I'm hoping to compete in the Special Olympics and do the 100 IM. Everyone else is doing the 25 Free or 25 backstroke and my coaches don't know how to do/teach turns. This helps a lot, but I was wondering what you do with your hands when going from breast to back? Do you do the same here, even though you aren't rolling over to your stomach?
Very good video but I have a question: when you pushed off in the underwater shot I'm not sure but it looked like you weren't past 90 degrees on you're side for the breastroke. I'm not criticising just wondering :)
+BobaFett MTB Great Question!!! I turn immediately onto my breast so I would not be disqualified. You get DQ'd if you push off blatantly on your back. Watch some video of great breaststrokers and their turns. My favorites are Sandeno, Soni, Donahue, and Dennison. See their push offs. Thank you for asking!
Dassem Ultor Late reply, but it terms of competition, turning all the way onto your belly to pushoff wastes time and energy. Why prepare your body for a butterfly kick position when you can just orient yourself after you’ve pushed off the wall?
Thank you for another great video Chloe! I will include that open turn when I practice the push-off for the breast stroke.
This video is a blessing
so hilarious her explanation! I love it!!
Chloe your videos rule. Come do a clinic for my team! '
You make the most useful and helpful swimming videos I've found. Thank You!!

Thanks for the video .. its very great turn .. sharp n steady. May i ask you .. why frog style is often called Breast Stroke....
Chloe thank you for the video. These tips gave me a clear picture of what I have to do. Also I am struggling with butterfly catch mostly with my arms. Do you have any drills on how to build memory muscle so I can improve on that?
Fantastic drills, thanks Chloe.. very nice tricks
Precise and brief, thanks.

4:37 :)) proper shutter sound should be added here. Thank you for another wonderful video!
Thanks for help us!!!
Excellent tips. Thank you.
beautifully explained
Really useful, thanks - but I wondered why it is wrong to turn to face down?
Because turning face down (4:41) is inefficient and slows down your turn.
It's much smoother and faster to twist onto your front *after* kicking off the wall when you're already in streamline.
V good video. My ques is how to avoid that dizzy feeling when i do that
perfect. ... very helpful and good job thank you very much.
I called my mother several times BUT she didn't answer :(
thanks chloe, really helpful video :)

That taking a selfie though🤣🤣🤣🤣
Thank you for your lessons girl😚
Thanks Chloe 👍
I practiced open turn today. But I cannot reach my goal. Now this clip point my fault very correctly. Thank you!!!
How do you do this turn coming into the wall when you’re doing the butterfly? Can you make a video showing that?
Exactly the same as this
Can I do open turn in free style
Yep, even though the flip turn in freestyle is obviously faster, open turns are nice for beginners in that they allow you take an extra breath.

Can these same concepts be applied for doing an open turn for freestyle??
to be honest I don't know why you would want to do a freestyle open turn, but I imagine so
One question: if I do a turn and touch the wall with both hands but it doesn't look like that, will I get disqualified?
What about open turns in crawl?
I would like to know as well. I guess it would be the same. You still need to use 2 hands on the wall to break the impact force and for a powerful push off the wall.
@@scuba453 A year late, but here is a nice progression for open turn in front crawl/freestyle: ruclips.net/video/iaX2p3XdwCQ/видео.html
Thanks lot...very useful video...and always with a lovely smile 😃
How is the last part (knees pointing down) a mistake? I mean what difference does it make?
Wow. How you are great teacher love u

very helpful Chloe, big thanks! 3:59 skils :D

Very interesting Chloe, thx a lot. Just a question : can we do the same for medley swimming when it comes to turn from butterfly to backstrocke?
Yes!
Great! Another question : will you make a tuto for crossover turn? (backstroke => breaststroke but "flipturn way")
Just saw your new vid, thx so much :)

+BobaFett MTB I also think it's somewhat the camera angle that makes me look more on my side. :)
Thanks a lot Chloe, I stand corrected :D You're right about the camera angle :) Thanks so much for your time and I still want you in NZ! :)
cool...thanks a lot
Tank for you
I don't really call my mother, she calls me!
You are so good and cute thanks 👍😊🌷
Thank you. Just tried it several times in the pool this morning. Works great. I think I got it down
Oh so that's how it done!!
Lol 2:24 so cool, she turned into a morph ball
I cant flip for nothibg in the world. I always end up sideways or not at all
4:43 this puts you immediately in the perfect dolphin kick position... I assume is not efficient tough, why?
