- In this episode we are joined by the brilliant and kind Lauren Cassidy! Lauren moved to Utah from New York just a few years ago after she converted to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (otherwise known as the Mormon Church). Lauren joins us to share her conversion story.
Lauren grew up knowing about God and did her best to live a good life. However, she wasn't praying to God and wasn't quite sure where religion would fit into her life. During her sophomore year in college, Lauren found a Bible in her dorm and decided to read as much of. the scriptures as she could. She began searching for a community of believers where she could engage with the scriptures with likeminded people. Lauren shares her experience searching for a religion and coming across the Church of Jesus Christ.

My parent for personal reasons have decided to step away from the church a few years ago. Well so have I but I noticed that I started to struggle a little more since then. However I started coming back last November because I have stayed because I felt like I have slowly felt like I have become a better person since then.

What's amazing for me about Lauren's interview is that toward the end, when she is asked what advice she can give to investigators, she answers that we must be compassionate and patient with ourselves because we will have doubts; it is scary to change faiths; and we will have to make reflections if what the church offers is true for us; to bring out the best version of me... Exactly how I'm feeling at the moment!

Great video. I grew up in New Orleans as a catholic. I had a similar experience in high school and college as Lauren. Met the missionaries in January and was baptized in May. I was 19 as well. Parents and friends were not happy with me leaving their church. Step by step I changed...Word of Wisdom, modest dress, temple endowment, Patriarchal Blessing, daily scripture study, genealogy, etc. I enjoy this channel when it occasionally pops up on my recommend page.

I grew up Catholic too, but was definitely more active (like daily masses, eucharistic adoration, newman center involvement, etc. 😂)
But I love her main point that we’re all on our own journey and pace in spirituality. It took me several years to realize and come to actually know Jesus Christ and His Gospel and realizing that needs to be the center of my life and not some magisterium.
I came to know Christ through the Eucharist.
I love being able to receive the body, blood, soul, and Divinity of our Lord and savior Jesus Christ
Going to Eucharistic adoration and being able to sit in his presence and enjoy peace and quiet while I pray and talk to Jesus is the best time I have.
Receiving his body and blood makes me be more like him and that's how I really knew Jesus Christ.
I love the magisterium, it is Christ’s desire to establish a hierarchical teaching authority for believers, or the Church.

My wife and I converted from Catholicism too!.
It was a chance meeting during an antenatal class that introduced us to the LDS faith. My wife had struck up a friendship with a young Samoan girl named Samaria. This lead to me meeting Samaria's husband David.
Which eventually led to us being baptized and confirmed at 19 and 18 respectively.
When I imagine how much of a blessing it would be, to pick up a book of Mormon and intrinsically know it as the truth.
I can honestly say that I believe myself to have had an evan greater blessing then that.
This is because I was handed the book of Mormon by a person who had the enough compaction, patience and most of all love. To answer all the 1001 tedious and (in retrospect) sometimes offensive questions that I had.
PS if you happen to be reading this David, yes I'm talking about you my brother...Oh and just incase hearing me say that gives you a big head.... I want you to know that I'm reminded of the slow process of my salvation, every weekend when we play footy and I see the slow process of you running back to the 10m mark.. LoL i love ya bro 🤝😂🤝
One of the most amazing members I know today was a catholic. He married my sister and converted to the restored gospel of Jesus Christ. Years later I'm still impressed by his faith.

I disagree that alot of Catholics only attend Mass on Easter and Christmas!
You're right! Most Catholics attend Mass every Sunday. The point I was trying to make (that I clearly didn't make very well) was a lot of Catholics in the neighborhood I grew up in only attended Mass in major holidays, such as Christmas and Easter. So that is what I witnessed in my early years. However, today I do know a lot of devout Catholics, my Mother being one of them and I am so happy she is! My apologies, I did not mean to make a false general statement about Catholics and it was not my intent to offend. I simply misspoke.

As a Catholic myself I of course have mixed feelings about her ending up in the LDS faith haha - Catholicism is a beautiful faith and so I hope that someday she might be interested to revisit it. It most certainty hasn't been preached very well over the last few decades - but figures like Father Mike Schmitz, Trent Horn, and Bishop Barron have done wonders to bring the Truth and Beauty of the faith to those who never got the chance to receive from their parents as kids
This is an absolutely beautiful comment, and I think the figures you mentioned can be very helpful to people who want to stay or join the Catholic faith and had a similar upbringing to me - with the "never got the chance to receive from their parents." I am certainly not opposed to looking those people up, I'm sure it will reveal to me a different side of the faith I never saw before. And I am always intersted in learning more! Enjoyed the video but a few critiques I guess.
When you make a confession at the Catholic Church, you are forgiven of the sins the moment the priest says that all is forgiven.
YOU can’t forgive your own sins.
Jesus does the forgiving through the priest and I think all Christians would say that there’s no sin too big for Jesus to forgive. He does it all. We just cooperate with what is asked/told of us.
Also as a Catholic who didn’t really understand the faith until later in life, it’s worth watching Catholic apologetics because I’ve noticed too many families aren’t practicing the faith devoutly or even trying to pass it on to their children. I was one of those children. But now I absolutely love Catholicism.

I knew that the Book of Mormón is true when I start reading it.
I got baptized a month later and a year later i was preaching the restoration of the gospel as a missionary.

I was also a Roman Catholic - converted from evangelical Protestantism. I loved the beauty of the church, the liturgy, symbolisms, and contemplative prayer. But i always felt alone. And the parishioners were not very welcoming. But when I visited the LDS church, i felt at home. I only wish that I had the childlike faith of Lauren to go through the waters of baptism so soon after encountering the missionaries.

I love going to Mass, I love being able to be present and to pray , hear the scripture, listen to the homily of the priest, and then be in the presence of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
I love Mass so much that I can't wait for Sunday to come , that I make it daily mass pretty much every day. I'm very lucky that my parish has daily mass Monday thru Friday , and then I go to Saturday mass and Sunday mass too!!!!
I have been to many other churches and I even attended many LDS Sunday meetings whenever I've been invited and while the LDS are very kind and welcoming , and yes the community was great , I just never felt at home.
It's like something was missing , JESUS CHRIST was missing. That's why I can't leave my Catholic faith , leaving the church would mean I leave Jesus Christs church and I wouldn't be able to receive his body and blood anymore.

@@Compulsive-Elk7103That's the problem with Catholicism: Seeing Christ in a piece of bread instead of each other. But I'm very grateful for the short time I was in the church. The best time was when there was no one in the church - my parish would leave the doors open during the day - and I could sit and pray contemplatively. In the LDS church Christ is made manifest in the members.

Jesus Christ said that the bread IS his body and we clearly take his word seriously and literally.
I love going to Mass so that I can be with my fellow brothers and sisters in Christ and also be in the presence of God the Son by the appearance of bread.

@@LaurenCassidy Catholic school was a very spiritually rewarding experience. I was introduced to the doctrine of Theosis which is the transformation of a person's mortal identity to a divine identity when you partake of the body & blood of Christ. Also known as Holy Communion. In Catholicism the sacrament is only available to those that have gone through catechism and understand that the bread they consume is literally the transubstantiated body of Jesus. So non-Catholic visitors to Mass are not supposed to receive Holy Communion. Very devout Catholics will go to Adoration of the Eucharist where the transubstantiated body of Christ will be left on an altar for anyone to go and be in the presence of God similar to Latter Day Saints being in the presence of God in the celestial room.

Wow. You have a unique bishop. Many bishops require people who confess a sin to stop taking the sacrament for a period of time, or they bar them from attending the temple, or they release them from their calling and don’t let them serve for a while, all to make up for what they did. Count your blessings that you got a good one.
From personal experience it seems to depend on a couple things (and of course all things can be forgiven and overcome through Jesus Christ's Atonement):
1. the severity of the sin in which may need some time to overcome committing it repeatedly to repent (change)
And 2. the guidance the Bishop receives from the Spirit for each individual. As a Bishop they can recieve guidance for the members of their ward to help them on their journey spiritually and temporarily.
The scriptures say we shouldn't partake of the sacrament unworthily or enter holy places and the Bishop helps us to know if that applies to our case or not. And he is guided to know if time is needed to overcome something before we continue to perform in sacred things.
I have worked with many Bishops and always felt their guidance was inspired by the Lord to help me. But I know there have been cases for people where their Bishop wasn't as great or helpful. I think most or all Bishops are trying though and are still human and fallible like the rest of us. But more often than not you can feel and see in them that the Lord has placed a mantle on them to guide and care for their ward.
When her bishop counceled her about repentance, he was acting under the direction of the Holy Ghost and by priesthood authority.. I'm sure she recognized that..

@@harshitgarg419 it’s a commentary on the illogical belief in our church/culture (which I used to have as a missionary) that if someone gains a testimony of the Book of Mormon, then the next reasonable step is to get baptized and join the church. But there are other churches besides ours that believe in the Book of Mormon and Joseph Smith, who did not follow Brigham Young or his successors.
There’s also the loose collective known as the remnant (many former LDS). Heck, even some baptists believe in the Book of Mormon.
There’s no actual connection between the validity of the Book of Mormon and the ostensibly exclusive authority of the Brighamite faction of Mormonism.
@@harshitgarg419 but the Utah-based church has gone to considerable lengths to be the only church people think of when they hear “The Book of Mormon” or “Joseph Smith.”
If God led this young woman to join the LDS church, then that is between him and her. She probably doesn’t know enough about the prophecies in the Book of Mormon to have any qualms with a church claiming ultimate authority and that they are the Lord’s. But for non-Brighamite LDS people, or just truth seekers in general, it’s a shame that people “assign” a sacred record with a church organization. It would be like saying “God told me the Bible was true, therefore I joined the Catholic Church, because they were the first church with the Bible”.

Sister, first off, I’m so glad you found faith in your life! That’s incredible. If I may though, I would recommend guarding against claiming that “most Catholics only go to church on Easter and Christmas”. Idk if you meant it that way, but if you are an actual practicing Catholic, you go to Mass every Sunday, sometimes on other days of the week as well. 😁
Also, if I may note, when we go to confession with a priest, the penance he gives us isn’t to “make up for our sins”, but of course it’s penance which Jesus speaks about in the Gospels but it’s also for us to show God that we are actually contrite and sorry for our sins.
Just don’t want anyone to misrepresent the Catholic faith which I know wasn’t your intent! 😁🙏🏼

@@allieooop3923 Yeah, she mentioned that her parents seem to be more practicing now then when she was younger, but yeah, I know several members of the LDS faith and it seems that LDS and Catholics are the ones being misrepresented all the time lol so just wanted to clarify. It breaks my heart that she left the catholic faith, and I pray she returns home, but again, I'm glad she found faith in general.
Great clarifications! I was taught in Catholic school that we were supposed to go to church every Sunday, and my family did for a long time. But as a I grew older (and some troubles began in my family), we only started attending on the major holidays, such as Christmas and Easter. That is when I noticed many families in my neighborhood ONLY attended on major holidays. I did not mean to misrepresent all Catholics. I can only speak to my experience really, and my apologies for not clarifying that in the video. (I was a little nervous while filming so my mind was a little all over the place). Today, I know a lot of devout Catholics, my Mom has worked her way to becoming one as well! And similar to how you feel for me, I am very happy she has strong faith.
Also, thank you for explaining penance. I felt in Catholic school that many things were told to me, but not explained fully, so I never quite understood it.

@@allieooop3923 Hey! My family used to go to Catholic church every Sunday when I was really really young, but then as I grew older we only started going on the major holidays. Which is when I realized most others in my neighborhood only attended on major holidays. By the time I was in high school, my family was kind of divided so they barely attended the holiday Masses. However, today my mom is a very devout Catholic who attends every Sunday and I am so happy for her! I hope that clears up the confusion! Sorry if I didn't explain that super well in the video, I was kind of nervous filming haha.

great story....in my family we are very diverse, many are Muslim/Islam, some Christian and only 4 LDS members (LDS are Christian also)
I just got baptized in 2020 during COVID and all the restrictions we had to go through
It's always a bit saddening when a fellow Catholic member leaves the church , because our faith is so rich and theirs a lot to learn, and because it really is Christ's true church and I know it to be true!
But i wish Lauren well and i hope shes happy in whatever shes doing

Unfortunately, many are deceived by man’s interpretation of the Bible, and so that’s why much of Christianity is groping in the proverbial dark to find truth. You really can’t criticize the Church of Jesus Christ of latter day, Saints, unless you first find out what they believe and read their book and see if there is other words of God.

I was so enjoying her story and feeling the Holy Ghost. I was about to comment with a THANK YOU for not adding in distracting video clips that distract from the Holy Spirit so allow one to be personally inspired in real time. But THEN you added in 13:55 for humor and I found myself totally distracted and unable to focus. Please stop adding in all the extra. Too many channels are doing that so it makes you just like them instead of awesome and cool without needing that to get peoples attention. Like, isn't the content enough? Aren't the guests enough? Or does this channel think it can't make a big impact without the extra bits?
I CHALLENGE YOU: FOR 30 DAYS no extra music or clips or what have you. Just real and authentic experiences. I know you're sitting on some interviews. So post them without the other stuff. See if more people view your channel, like your content and subscribe. Is the real purpose of this channel enhanced?
It's an experiment in bravery and leaving behind the worldly for something better. And if it doesn't work out, I will never complain about your video clips and sound effects ruining perfectly great interviews.
I left being a JW years ago (born in) it's kinda crazy to think that people in adulthood are attracted to these kinds of cults. Believe in God, believe in Jesus. But why join a high control group that has nothing to do with Christianity?
I'd kindly disagree, we are not cults. I met your fellow JW members and they are really sweet people. I have nothing but respect. People need to understand that God is real, there are implicit scientific proofs that prove that and even anyone who pays close attention to their own life would realize that. Great. We both agree this much. But how we can come together and believe this is the question that fortunately joseph smith solved. He saw something that no one could see in a human, the ability to become like God. We each have his power in us through the holy spirit, even basic Christians can see that and appreciate that ordinances and promises is how we 'move up' (aka, growing so close we can wield power over our own lives through understanding what God wants for us. A religion should seek to move you closer to God not keep you in one spot. JW and Mormons are the only two churches that have my respect in that regard. I can testify that either JW or LDS is true, no others can because God is waiting as it is up to us to build his will on earth. I hope you can realize that the word control means guide with a heavy hand so that "thou shalt not be lost." Christianity is the means to which we become near perfect on Earth and perfect in heaven.
@@harshitgarg419 Both religions practice shunning, and don't allow people to have a different opinion outside the orthodoxy. You have to stick to their script. They go beyond what is written in scripture with man made rules which are self serving, that way they can control people. As Jesus said "you nullify the word of God by your tradition that you have handed down"

I know that you do a lot of good, but you do just as much harm in bullying people and blocking their comments, just because they disagree.
Not very fair to say “converted from Catholicism” when it’s clear to see this girl was just your average non-practicing lapsed Catholic with little knowledge of her Catholic faith.
But it’s cool - like with Protestants, it seems you Mormons attract our lapsed believers. Whereas Catholicism attracts the most devout and educated believers from Mormonism/Protestantism.
Okay, you are educated, right? Google the 2015 Pew research on membership and education in religions.
Also, read the book. Use your education to pick it apart, do what we've done.

I can only speak from experience, and I've met a lot of spiritual believers in Catholicism, Protestantism, and Restorationism who obey the commandments of Christ to love one another (Jn 13:34-35). They all use the Bible as their foundation for truth. Your issue with other believers, as opposed to whatever faith or tradition you adhere to, is one of hermeneutics. I try to live by a hermeneutic of love, not judgment (Mt 7:1-2).

Because similar to Islam, it manufactures simple answers to difficult questions that tend to trouble the average Christian. That’s why I find LDS theology unconvincing - not because it’s bizarre, but because it looks to be so obviously man-made. It’s an attempt to alleviate the apocalyptic anxiety traditional Christianity felt within modernity by twisting the Christian story to fit it into the paradigm of modernity - with the new discoveries/developments in science, biblical studies, western esotericism etc
