      The weird numbers on the 4k animation render, this could be due to some background task running, or a number of things, including, maybe just user error.
      However, it's possible that there is some issue with the 5090, the card itself or in software, drivers etc.

    • @hardwire666too
      @hardwire666too 10 дней назад +3

      The Blender results could be a problem with Blender, or the driver. Perhaps run DDU between tests to ensure the old drivers are flushed? Could also be a CPU/PCI-E bottleneck as I know that has been showing up in gaming results. However I don't think it's all that likely by any means. But possible so i mention it. I know some people experienced a few problems with the 4090 in Blender when the 4090 released, but I don't know what the extent of those issues were. This video also is a perfect example of why I say the Blender benchmarks are for gamers and mostly meaningless for artists. Good stuff as always.
      Also the bit on simulations, you mentioned Blender. Blender actually only does simulation on the CPU, and is very poorly multi-threaded.

    3090 rendering is already kinda insane. I no longer feel limited by my gpu. At work I have to do lots of arnold rendering. On my old gpu i constantly hit the vram limit and rendering took up to 15min. With the 3090 ive had zero vram issues and it renders in 2-3min. Its such a time saver. And to imagine that we had to render on the cpu before this... from 40min renders to 3min. pretty crazy.

      and one of the very nice things about the 3090 is that it can still use NVlink, meaning you can Nvlink two 3090's together and get up to 48 GB of VRAM, which the 4090 and 5090 cannot do. Of course to do this you need a motherboard and CPU with sufficient PCIE lanes to fully leverage two 3090's which most regular PC boards cant do, you basically need a Threadripper or Threadripper pro Board.
      Im actually strongly considering just upgrading my current threadripper pro machine, which right now only has one 3090 in it currently and adding a second 3090.

      @SirWade  10 дней назад +13

      I should have been more clear, it's a combo of power and vram, the 4090 handles the calculations much better than the 3090, which is the main difference between those two. But the 5090 has more room to breathe when upscaling due to the increased memory pool so in addition to its speed boost, there's a bit more flexibility in the upscaling. It's definitely not a perfect test though, despite my efforts- it was more of an observation that I turned into a chart :P And tbh I’m not 100% sure I have the whole picture here- I just wanted to share the results of some stress-testing. VRAM was what I was focused on but it wasn’t a very scientific approach since there are obviously other factors too 😅 I hope this helps a bit

    I have an idea for the blender bug 6:30. If you go to Preferences > System > Cycles Render Devices: None/CUDA/OptiX/HIP/oneAPI these settings have a huge impact on the rendering and they change based on the GPU you have in your computer. So after you switched the card, that setting might have changed automatically, maybe because of the card's early drivers

    Vpaths explained from Google AI:
    Benchmark score:
    The final score in a V-Ray Benchmark test is often expressed as "vpaths" when using a GPU, allowing you to compare the rendering performance of different GPUs based on their path tracing capabilities.
    Comparison with other metrics:
    While "vsamples" is another metric used in the benchmark for CPU rendering, "vpaths" is specific to GPU rendering.
    Importance for complex scenes:
    Higher vpath scores signify better performance in scenes with lots of reflections, refractions, and indirect lighting, where many ray tracing paths are needed to accurately simulate the light behavior.

    So it sounds like the big jumps we got between the 20 to 30 series and then the 30 to 40 series is gone this time around. We're back to the every other generation video card investement pattern. If someone is going from the 30 series to the 50 then it's a nice move forward. I'm thinking the 60 series is where we will see a double in performance from the 40 series. And we'll see how many software packages take advantage of the new features the 50 series introduced by time the 60 series comes around.
    I think in fairness, even the CPU releases recently have been lackluster. We'll see what the next two to two and a half years brings us. 30 and 40 series were really impressive moves forward so it's hard to top those releases.

    You can't asses rendering performance with lots of quick rendering animation frames. It will come out mostly the same among the those cards. It needs to be one stress test frame with way more things going on in the scene to see the difference. If each of those frames were more complex with longer render times, then you would have seen that 30% difference you were getting in the other tests.

    For resolve, use the depth pass generation, the neural slow motion generation with optical flow and speed time better in retime, some denoiser nodes, if you want to test the card. Would be interesting if you can include Houdini with Karma XPU. There are many test scenes available. Would be interesting to check on the infamous bubble wrap karma scene. Also Renderman XPU would be great to test. Would love to see some big massive real life scenario scenes we use in commercial work (currently rendering thousands of frames from karma on a project with 100 GB+ of assets). I know is scene/case dependent but Arnold is extremely slow for that shot imho. That blender scene has some bad settings to, should not take that much to render.

    I would really love to see data comparing the price to performance across the 70s and 80s categories of 30,40, and 50 series cards tbh. I'm about ready for an upgrade but rarely ever buy the top of the line in any series so this kinda info would be super useful. Considering a 5070, but not sure how it stacks up particularly for use with blender

    For the Animated blender cycles render benchmark you did 1 possible thing that happened was the cache wasn't cleared properly, this happens a lot if you're rendering a lot of frames without turning off your computer. I don't know why that's happening but it happens to me a lot when I render a lot of images, you check your system resources to double check, I have 96gb of ram and sometimes I get slow render times when I take a look at my resources windows is telling me I'm using 80gb of my ram when rendering and rendering times tends to get a lot slower.

    I think you should try Omniverse path tracing and XPU render inside of Houdini they are different flavors of path tracing however the Omniverse is the purest form with not a lot to run in the background like other softwares.
    I find it to be the most impressive way of rendering so far.

    • @XenoGraphica

    • @XenoGraphica
      @XenoGraphica 8 дней назад

      @ Yeah but you wouldn't do that while keyframing 90% of the time. You're never going to reach target fps like that. So in that case fps doesnt matter, its a case of how does it feel to move around the viewport in rendered view, and there's not really a great way to benchmark that

    I assume the case where the 5090 was slower than the 3090 must have been a driver issue, meaning NVidia haven't finished tweaking the driver yet.

    great video! i would love to see how this card renders with Marmoset Toolbag 5 with raytracing enabled. Also how the vram effects texturing performance in the viewport when using 4k texture projects and painting across multiple UDIM tiles. It would just be great to see how the amount of vram effects texture painting performance as well as rendering because its one of the areas of the 3d ware having a lot of vram can help a lot.

    I feel like the biggest upgrade is the slightly increased VRAM for most artists.
    GPU rendering in a lot of cases is already faster. I am fine if it has similar speeds to the 4090 if it means that I have more budget left to even render it on GPU.

    2:35 often the bottleneck for rendering can be the read write speeds. Given the 50 & 4090 were the same I would suspect that’s what you’re seeing here. This is especially a bottle neck when each frame is large in file size such as exr and png

  • @interuniversal321
    @interuniversal321 10 часов назад

    Are you sure you were powering the card properly? A powerful enough PSU and pushing the GPU using different rails?

  • @jittertn
    @jittertn 10 дней назад +1

    Export time for the (exr and png) sequence are the same because both cards are so fast they are getting bottlenecked by another system component (storage maxing its write speed in this case is most likely, but it could be the pcie bus, the cpu or memory speed for similar task that need to move data between vram, ram and storage memory )

    Please test Houdini next, try pre-configure; MPM, Pyro GPU, vellum etc. as they use your GPU fully and also Karma XPU since it uses both GPU and CPU and also add Octane, Redshift, Corona benchmarks. They all have standalone benchmark tools like Vray, Blender. (except Redshift, for that you'd need to use the command line.)

    • @SirWade

      I tried to run each of those benchmarks but they don’t yet support the 5090 😭 But I’ll definitely include them in a follow up once we have some updates, and I’m adding all of these Houdini items to my list for next time :) Thanks!!

    • @rano12321
      @rano12321 10 дней назад +1

      @@SirWade Oh my bad, corona render doesn't support GPU, it's CPU only but octane and redshift should support Nvidia GPUs, maybe they'll after they update their benchmarking tools for the new 5090. And with Houdini, it comes with demo simulation setups that have "configured" in the name when you search, try those configured MPM, Pyro GPU, Vellum and also Houdini's new renderer Karma XPU, that uses both CPU and GPU etc.
      With Resolve, Premiere, AE etc. it would be a lot easier and better IMO, if you use some kind of standardized benchmarking tool such as the Puget bench, as a lot of people use their benchmarking tools for Resolve, Premiere, AE, photoshop etc. as they've made those tools to test various tools and workflows in each software such as DVR, PP, AE etc. and it's a lot easier than different people's arbitrary tests and those are free as well.
