Yeah, but when you touch his jacket, there’s a 50ms delay before you can feel the leather. Is it worth the additional cost to get the leather jacket if it’s laggy and harder to tell?
Well, and even then, good luck until third party ones drop, and then good luck until they restock and the scalpers get bored 😂 It's a farce at this point.
Jay, the reason you can't use Elmor's PCIe adapter to measure the power consumption of the PCIe slot is because Nvidia doesn't use a DIRECT PCIe connection to the motherboard with the FE, but because of the fans blowing through the card design, Nvidia already installed a riser cable on the FE card from the factory! Technically speaking, Elmor's adapter is riser no. 2, which is why the signal integrity of PCIe 5.0 is lost because the voltages that are absolutely necessary for PCIE 5.0 drop too much because each plug contact means an additional transition resistance! Switch PCIe back to 4.0 in the BIOS and you will see that Elmor's adapter works again (and also the 5090 FE) because the voltage tolerances under PCIe 4.0 don't have to be so high. Use a different 5090 from a board partner and you will see that Elmor's adapter suddenly works again despite PCIe 5.0. So, as you said in the video, it's not because Elmor's adapter still has PCIe 4.0 and/or is incompatible, but because the voltages required for PCIe 5.0 simply drop too much with 2 adapters. In the future, these types of problems will become more and more common because the technology only uses faster connections, which means that every detour via adapters and extensions represents a hurdle that is not only measurably worse, but will completely disable the function itself. Because it prevents signal integrity. EDIT: OHH and I forgot...If you plan on using the FE with a typical riser cable (even if it says 5.0!) for STANDING installation in a typical fish tank case like the Lian Li O11 Dynamic etc., FORGET THAT, it won't work for the same reason mentioned before! DO NOT buy a 5090 FE for standing installation via a RISER cable! Buy a 5090 Boardpartner card for it! The same applies of course to EVERYONE who uses water cooling and wants to put the 5090 under water...
@@Pro4TLZZ But Steve was already in Rossmann mode for most of the video..........and Paul highlighted a Nvidia Driver issue; which is why we need all the reviews to concentrate on slightly different aspects.

I will wait on a TI version of the 5090. My strix water-cooled 3090TI OC is still solid as a rock and gets pretty close to the 4090 FE. Honestly, if they didn't lock DLSS versions between cards in order to drive up prices, older cards (not that old, 1-2 years) would still benefit drastically which isn't good for their bottom line.

The progression for electronics from the gtx 700 series till now. Reminds me of The 40-year progression for vehicles. Everything seems to be so streamlined now there's really no tinkering anymore.
I’d say more I mean the 4090’s are still being sold at 2.7k to 3.6k currently (unless you go on eBay which is like 2k) and that’s because the 50 series is coming out. Imagine what they’re gonna price the newly released founders editions at. I say between 3k-4k. Shoot when the ps5 dropped they were selling them for like 1.5k 😂
26:22 - Wow, that A/B testing for audio was great! As an audio nerd, I love that you included that. There's much more low end in the 40 series fan. The 5090 is much closer to pink/white noise. Love it!
People need to keep in mind, while they're salivating over FPS, that if your monitor is a 120hz or 144hz monitor, it's not going to display anything more than 120fps or 144fps respectively. So don't get all wet about FPS when your monitor is going to limit what you're effectively able to see anyway.
Bro tell me when Arma runs at 140 Fps in 4k or even VR. I made 4090ti sweat with Euro Truck Simulator, just by improving texures and a highly detailed truck. If it can´t handle Cyberpunk at 200 FPS how is it gonna run games that will come out next year?
I understand though the 3090 to 4090 80% uplift was because they switched from 8nm to tsmc 4nm (really 5nm). No one currently sells better than that so the 5090 is stuck at tsmc 4nm. It's gonna be at least 2-3 years before 3nm is available. So next gen might be getting the same huge uplift.
@@NetworkNinja84 oh I don't disagree. AI is how Nvidia is compensating for generational increases in chips becoming more difficult. As to the power requirements next gen, it's hard to say. Smaller transistors does mean it's power efficiency will increase but that doesn't mean Nvidia still won't overdo it. That stated there is an upper limit to the wattage increases... the breaker wattage limits in people houses in America is way small than the rest of the world. Nvidia won't risk their biggest market having to rewire their houses past us electrical codes. Plus other items will have to be on the same circuit.
@@NetworkNinja84 lol where do you people that go on about power usage live where you cannot afford to run gpus because of their power? First of all do you think it uses 500watts 24/7? Unless you were mining with a gpu its not going to be using more than 40 to 80 watts max when not gaming or being used for work. Even when gaming its likely not hitting that 500+ watt load and even if it is how long are you gaming for? Back when bulbs were 60watts the lights people left on during the day used way more power than even the 5090 at full load uses.

@@pandalayreal bro what are u talking about. They need to accept that they have one of the best cards in the world. Probably the 3 rd or 2nd when the 50 series launch. The 5080 will probably beat the 4090 only thank to new blackwell techs and faster vram, but it will also have less vram so they will be on par. Id say that the ,50 series is more for people that want to upgrade from a 30 series.
I am running a used TUF 3060 with 12 GB of DDR6, which was all I could afford 2 years ago for $400 Cdn. The 3000 and 4000 series brand new are still way above what I can afford, and the 5000 series so far is way beyond a pipe dream for me. It runs good still, and I am running an AM4 mobo with a Ryzen 5 5600G and 32GB of DDR4 3200. My only limitation is my NVME storage at 1 TB Samsung 980 PRO. So, if my machine is a $10,000 machine, I guess I did well. The inflation on hardware and everything else is crazy when you consider an iPhone 14 cost $10 in China to make. Where is the MSRP parity with that? I realize R&D is expensive, but between financial backers and commercial sales, the profits still seem excessive. Love the new testing set-up guys. Keep up the great work and informative content.
Jay doesn't ask for a thumbs up very often in his videos. Hits that Like button immediately!!! (so much detail and work went into this video, enjoyed it very much!)
The game engine generated frames should be the percent lows IMO. The percent lows has always been a metric of how does the game feel to play versus a how fast does it go.

At this point, I'm more looking forward to the 9070 XT reviews, when the cards are actually released. At least those cards should be affordable compared to this. I just hope the performance of those cards are as advertised.
Whelp! Anyone who owns a 4090 or 4080 Super might benefit best by waiting for the 6000 series. Performance benefits seems to be more reasonable from 3000 series and below. My interest, however, is in the 5080, I am curious to see how it stacks up against the 7900XT.
this is where i'm at. I'm on a 3070 so i'm seeing how the 5080 and the 7900xt play out. The current MSRP of the 5080 is in my price range but I doubt it won't stay like that.
I'm wondering between 5080 and my XTX as Nvidia now has DP2.1 and I wouldn't have to replace my 1000W PSU. Not upgrading just want to see the difference in performance. One game I would like to try wants ray tracing, but I think 1- I'll see what AMD and Nvidia does in a year (5080Ti or 5090Ti or maybe 9080XTX). Really want something to show off my 57" Samsung!
if you own a 4090 the 5090 really isn't that expensive when you include the 4090's resale price, waiting for next gen means losing a lot of that resale value, skipping gens doesn't really save much
i have a 3080 and wanted to upgrade. But then heard that 50 series was gonna be released "soon". 7 months later and now im looking at the price and realizing there is gonna be 400-500 euro extra on top, combined with that i will need to upgrade my psu as well. Meanwhile the lowest priced 4090 is 600 euro more expensive than it was 7 months ago. Hope the 5080 test is more promising.
next gen or the one after that will probably make it worth it. You might want to buy one now, but you’ll regret it. 3nm got delayed so they focused solely on maximizing 4nm and then using AI to its farthest extent we currently can. This is just a “what we can do” type of gpu.
On a 3070ti rn with questionable life span and an upgrade would basically be a whole new build given my cpu and mobo being dated. I think I’ll hold off another 2 years and hope none of my parts brick themselves by then
I had a hard enough time spending over $800 for a 7900XTX. My whole rig doesn't cost 2k. I just wish people had enough will power to not purchase a vastly over priced piece of equipment.
The problem is buying a lets say $800 gpu today then one or two years from now a game like black myth comes out and cripples its performance in half because of state of the art technology being used for its graphic design. so now you're forced to either change settings or spend another $800 or so to upgrade if anything new is out by then. I missed the 4090, because i was on a gaming hiatus from 2020-2024, but, the 5090 interests me because its something I can use for such a long time without needing to consider another GPU or worry about being crippled by a new game down the line. Im waiting to see how Dune performs on the 5080 first though.
32.4% raw raster increase versus 27.7% power increase. A little over 4%, however, if you watched the review, the gaming watts was pretty much 500w, not 575. At the end of the day it is still a performance/watt increase.
@ Gamers Nexus has the 5090 slightly lower than the 4090 in perf/watt, so it's on a case by case basis. Last time we saw this lack of generational efficiency uplift was almost 2 decades ago iirc.
@FredSaidIt either way, it is close enough to a wash. This card also has 32GB of GDDR7, which doesn't impact gaming. This card is more than a gaming card, even if people like to say it's not. This also uses the same manufacturing process as the 40 series. A lot of the 30-40 was samsung 8nm to tsmc 4.5nm
I remember my first pc build. Feb in 2012. I bought a radeon 7970 for $744 (converted from SEK incl tax at 21Feb 2012 exchangerate) It was the most powerful single gpu at that time. $744 in 2012 is equivalent in purchasing power to about $1,022.72 today
Was it? I built a rig with a 680 in 2012 and and an i7-3770k. Still using the same rig, just upgraded to a 1080 and a bit more RAM (DDR3). Can't believe I've been using the same computer for 13 years. It cost me 2000 euros at the time I think, for the next rig I'll probably need double.
So basically a 4090 Ti with a software upgrade that give you fake and high FPS values at the same latency as the native or base framerate while being 25% more expensive than the already expensive 4090. AIB versions will cost even more. LMFAO I think I’ll be more than fine with my 4090.
id be asking you for a loan if you would be upgrading a 4090 already, you would obviously have too much money lol. Not many upgrade even lower tier cards every gen. I do about every 3 gens. went 1060 to 4070.
Nah - you wouldn’t get 32,5% average increase from a Ti version - that’s usually in the vicinity of 5-10%. We’ve just been spoiled by the 3090 and 4090 increase in performance. It’s quite easy to see that Nvidia hit the powerlimit of their connector - which is why 5090 is only running at 21k cuda cores over the potential full 24k cuda cores of this generation.
Bought a Sapphire Nitro+ 7900 XT 2 months ago for £620 brand new, sold my 3080. More than happy with it, never going back to Nvidia with their practices. Crazy power for such a low price.
I mean, you could get a 9800x3D a good MoBo, some DDR5 RAM, and a 5080 (at $1000) for a total of one (1) 5090 (at $2000) And that would be a better uplift from whatever you have on a 5800x And lets be honest, you will never see this card at $2000
That the 5090 has 100% of the air exhausted into the case reminds me of the pain points I went through with two 2080 TI FEs, which were the same. In that instance, water cooling worked, but was so much more effort to maintain...as you say, the case can make a difference, and recently switching that configuration to an ASUS ProART case let me run air-cooled 2X 2080 TI FEs at good and consistent low temps--because that case is elaborately-airflow-centrie.
In my country there are barely any 4090 available on 2nd hand market and regular retailers price is at 2600 euro. If i can get a 5090 from nvidia it would be alot cheaper for me
I think Wendell had the best take on MFG, there should be a way to only split the difference between rendered frames and your displays max refresh giving you as many traditional frames as possible
A 4090 will run damn near every game over 120hz which is the native limit for most gaming and TV displays. So what's the point of upgrading from a 4090 to a 5090, unless you have one of the handful 4k displays that support the new DP2.1 cable? Because all that extra 4k fps means absolute squat if the 4090 can already hit the display fps cap.
There really isnt. It gives more fps in Raytracing and pathtracing but otherwise no there isnt a benefit. Games already run 100> fps without that feature. They added frame gen which is a feature that cant really be used in multiplayer comp. games. Where in adventure games Im happy to run 60 fps and I dont really need frame gen.
That's why i probably in some future will switch to Intel or AMD while they don't get sick with that illness. I always told to people that "You are all squeamish ****eaters, who thinks if game doesn't work in 60+ FPS then this shouldn't exist." And everyone hate me for that. For me if this is not multiplayer(where 45 stable FPS is more than enough, after all it's not e-sport where FPS and ping matters) 30 FPS is enough. And NOW it is better, for me personal, have 30 REAL FPS, than 120+ frame-generated-FPS. + the less FPS you have the more artifacts that frame generation will have. And fun fact we already had some games where devs didn't give a thing about optimization at release, so it was below 60 at ultra settings(as usually everyone like to play). And without DLSS we probably still have such games. And yet everyone still would like to eat some sh... stuff like this for some reason and get happy about it. Sadly. :(
@ChukiTheErmine once latency comes down on the tech it will be great. I don't use dlss or frame gen especially on mp. If they can get the latency closer to native alot of complaints about frame gen will disappear. But I believe it is here to.stay not unless there is some generational leap in hardware that can brute force its way.
All frames are "fake" This is the future on how we can get visual performance increases at the same time as pushing high fps. People act like rasterizing games has always been perfect and it wasnt a generation over generation improvement of how to get clearer images and keeping up performance. We are literally in the second generation of frame gen and IMO its already a completely usable option. And its only going to continue to get better.
Pretty much. You see 1500 people complaining about the 5090 value before they buy a 5070 or below. The 5090 is kinda like the Titan cards, it's made for the 1% who need or want it and they typically couldn't care less about value. They buy it 'cause they need it or for bragging rights.
@ That has less to do with the amount of buyers and more to do with the amount of cards produced. It's a $2k halo product, they're not gonna make a million of them if they expect to sell 100k of them.
they're gonna sell like hotcakes in the AI crowd, it'll be cryptomining all over again cuz you need more than 1 for the workloads that make any money lol
Remember when SLI/Crossfire died because it was _apparently_ too difficult to do alternate frame rendering in drivers? So we all had to buy new GPUs? Well anyway 3 in 4 frames are now driver-level AI hallucinations.
this is why my current 14900K with my 4090 is already on a 1200 wat PSU so I don't need to worry about anything going wrong. I personally am feeling better and better to not been wiating for this generation when I build my set up. I am not hyped at all for this generation... nice review as always!
So then why do you see a bunch of games running with the card at ces instead of something like MAYA. Looks like they were marketing it as a gaming card.
Yes, but thing is.... These cards have MULTIPLE USES 😱 Been that way for ages. Just more apperant to the layman now with all this talk of AI and such Solid upgrade if you have something a few generations old and / or dying, and part of the highend
Really appreciate the comparison screenshots in Cyberpunk between the Transformer model and CNN. I was wondering about the visual improvements, and your screenshots made those very clear.
Frame Generation’s real name should be Frame smoothing or something like that. It’s just smoothing things out and the perception is (sometimes) better experience, but that doesn’t mean it’s the true experience of high fps gaming. And also it’s smoother when the base fps is already high vs low. So it’s only worth turning on when you don’t even need it turned on.
Sooo, the fact the 5090 is the only new graphics with better REAL hardware specs than all the other 50s cards. does that mean, when I have a 5070 running my game at same FPS as a 4070 and lets say that is only 30fps, I then turn on DLSS 4 to get 120fps, its still gonna feel like garbage? and wasn't a useful upgrade like everyone think it will be? Like idk how ppl aren't talking about this. So the 5090 is only a 20-30% REAL performance increase from 4090. soo how low are the 5070 and 5080 gonna be compared to their last gen??? maybe a 10% increase? is that really worth it just for a software update?
3090 $1,499 / 4090 $1,599, they were not the same price for founders. Still though, this 5090 being $1,999 is hellish. I'll get one just for the GDDR7 VRAM at 32GB and 28Gbp/s
Where from and how much? I only see refurbished ones on newegg going for $2-5k, and one new one on Amazon for nearly $5k… Maybe you aren’t aware, but they stopped making 4090’s a while back. The only way you will get one at a decent price is if some hardcore gamer is short on buying a 5090 and is looking to dump their very used 4090 to afford it.

People need to keep in mind, while they're salivating over FPS, that if your monitor is a 120hz or 144hz monitor, it's not going to display anything more than 120fps or 144fps respectively. So don't get all wet about FPS when your monitor is going to limit what you're effectively able to see anyway.
Being able to max out your monitor whether it’s 120 or 500Hz is good. I would kill for a locked 144Hz while gaming

Still a dud with all that power usage though. It’s just that it’s focused more on Ai than anything.
Back when bulbs were 60watts the lights people left on during the day used way more power than even the 5090 at full load uses.

next gen or the one after that will probably make it worth it.

I missed the 4090, because i was on a gaming hiatus from 2020-2024, but, the 5090 interests me because its something I can use for such a long time without needing to consider another GPU or worry about being crippled by a new game down the line. it does use dlss tho? or are you not even using that? then damn xD
1070 is still the best.
Zero issues. 7 years old usage.
@@ZinoAmareThe 3080 does use dlss. I've done it. He's using fake frames on his 1080p 60hz garbage...lol
All frames are "fake"
This is the future on how we can get visual performance increases at the same time as pushing high fps.
People act like rasterizing games has always been perfect and it wasnt a generation over generation improvement of how to get clearer images and keeping up performance.
We are literally in the second generation of frame gen and IMO its already a completely usable option.
And its only going to continue to get better.
@@Ducc1x 'all frames are fake' - just no.
I've just got me a 6090 👍👍
congratulations to the 0.00000000001% who is going to buy this
Pretty much. You see 1500 people complaining about the 5090 value before they buy a 5070 or below. The 5090 is kinda like the Titan cards, it's made for the 1% who need or want it and they typically couldn't care less about value. They buy it 'cause they need it or for bragging rights.
Yet it will be sold out the day of release.
I bet the .0000000001% will be out in full force to try to keep me from wasting 3k on this.
"My Jensun is hitting everything"

5090 full house heater embargo is lifted
This is not gaming card, this is Ai learning/3D renderer
So then why do you see a bunch of games running with the card at ces instead of something like MAYA. Looks like they were marketing it as a gaming card.
Yes, but thing is....
These cards have MULTIPLE USES 😱
Been that way for ages. Just more apperant to the layman now with all this talk of AI and such
Solid upgrade if you have something a few generations old and / or dying, and part of the highend
Jensen thinks us gamers are stooped and would drop cash on this crap. He is build his empire on our backs.
@@secondimpact7836 there are lots of rich gamers who are buying this day 1
Really appreciate the comparison screenshots in Cyberpunk between the Transformer model and CNN.
He said it 10:20 under his breath.
12:03 in the future can you talk about performance per W as well. 39% uplift for 25% more power also does shine that well.
I am glad you talked about who actually can use this card. I was just talking about that this friday during gamenight.
SLI wasn’t discontinued, they just internalized the SLI in a single card.
SLI 5090s would max out 110v outlets
SLI on one card was done in the past. It was 2 separate gpus and memory configs on one PCB. This is not
😢
@@TopShot501st Some times I forget America has really low V outlets (230v or 240v@50hz here)
@@notwhatitwasbefore we have 240v in homes but exclusively used for Car charging and washer/dryer units. Not normal wall outlets.
Jayz's Jensen like jacket should be mandatory in every nvidia product review!
It kinda felt like they upgraded the ai stuff and tagged it as gpu upgrade lol
You are correct
exactly
The leather jacket is hilarious
3090 $1,499 / 4090 $1,599, they were not the same price for founders. Still though, this 5090 being $1,999 is hellish. I'll get one just for the GDDR7 VRAM at 32GB and 28Gbp/s
I have a 4080super
So i can't wait to see the raw performance real frames comparisons to the 5080 vs. 4080super frames gen off, especially at 1440p.
Ill save my money and buy a 4090 .
Where from and how much? I only see refurbished ones on newegg going for $2-5k, and one new one on Amazon for nearly $5k…
Maybe you aren’t aware, but they stopped making 4090’s a while back. The only way you will get one at a decent price is if some hardcore gamer is short on buying a 5090 and is looking to dump their very used 4090 to afford it.
@@thepooz7205 Shhh! Let him do it haha. Go ahead buddy buy a 4090! It's much cheaper and more powerful than 5090!
Aren’t these supposed to go live tomorrow the 24th?
Nope

It is the 24th! (In Australia and New Zealand) and no its supposed to be 6AM PT
technically is the 24th in some parts of the world ig
Thank you for including a pure uplift percentage I’m not interested in DLSS etc I just like pure rasterisation performance 👍
