- Stevie Nicks and I have one thing in common: her granddad sang this song to her when she was a little girl, and my daddy sang it to me when I was a little boy. Stevie looks and sounds so good it is hard to believe she is 60 years old. Thanks to Biography channel and Chris Isaak for capturing this history of a fascinating woman, for the high production standard of this show, and for the many repeat telecasts that provide greater opportunity to watch.
Stevie Nicks is beyond wonderful. Stevie is even more impressive when you know a part of her life she doesn't advertise which is the countless hours she visits wounded veterans, mostly amputees. She talks to them for hours. What a brave and admirable person.
Whixh she sings about in her album recording and live performances of Soldier's Angel! Beautiful music!❤
When I was in the first grade in Hall No. 1 in Sargent County, North Dakota, all 8 grades would sing this beautiful song
I have never forgotten it
Much later I had a small gallery in NYC I returned home one night and found that the stopper in the bathtub had fallen flooding the tub
A beautiful little kitten had fallen into the tub and drowned I was just horrified
It was the last straw on a miserable day where I had already learned that a dear friend was dying
The next day for some reason I got off on the train not thinking what I should do
I sat on a bench seriously ready to whatever somethìng to myself
A beautiful young woman sitting next to me with her guitar suddenly stood up and started singing Red River Valley in this pure strong voice
That was 20 years ago and I will never forget it
What a duo. My favorite rendition of this song.
I am in tears hearing this lovely and meaningful song. It's one of the oldest love song. My father used to sing and i am deeply in love with this song.
Chris never takes his eyes off Stevie's mouth and effortlessly sings but, even though he's the star induces her to be the lead and he the follower. The mark of a true star, like for example, Emmylou Harris.
I had never heard Stevie Nicks sing. This is so amazing! Her voice is direct, honest and filled with the pain of love and sung from the heart. It's a bit like Paulette Carlson of Highiway 101. And to think she's belting this out at 60 years old..simply a masterful job of singing Red River Valley. I'm 76 yrs old and mostly a fan of early music. But I will give other forms of music a listen now and then. As a performer myself, I know 'good' when I hear it, and this is very very good. I'll have to look for more of Stevie Nicks now.
@micebones7544 Thanks for mentioning Paulette Carlson. I'm 83, and she was my favorite. I was sad when she retired from Highway 101. Ironically, I was an audience pick on Nashville Now and got to speak through the PA to her successor Nicky. In the same vein, I loved Anita Cochran's ballads. If you didn't know her work, here is my favorite: ruclips.net/video/kGmWc0Ymisw/видео.htmlsi=q2wzbc0t64ewzo2T
@@SidsCardShop I did watch that video of Anita Cochran. Very nice singer for sure. utube is a joy for those of us who are basically shut-ins.
@@micebones7544 Indeed! My mind keeps wondering what is wrong with my body! 🙂
@@SidsCardShop I say all the time "I used to be awesome, and this is all that's left".
I was writing a long comentary but I made something wrong and It vanished! But I Just wanna say that u americans are Very beautyful due this song and other things ! Forget government . They R ALL corrupt !Forgive my poor english . Greetengs from Brazil 🇺🇸🇧🇷
My mom used to sing this to us when I was a kid. Before TV, and after we were all tucked into bed, she would sit in her rocker and sing us to sleep. Beautiful memory.
you fox
what about the french verses?" … Dans le soleil dit 'bonjour' a la montagne… Dans le soleil descende a la montagne."...?
@@supernewf66 Yes ...I read somewhere that this song was written by a Metis woman {French-Canadian and Cree Indian}. Not about Texas at all but about the Red River of the North? Who knows?
That is very cool.
@@xanbex8324 The Red River (880 km long) begins at the confluence of the Bois de Sioux and Otter Tail rivers at the border between Minnesota and North Dakota. It then flows north through southern Manitoba and into Lake Winnipeg. The last 175 km of the Red River, the portion located in Manitoba, is designated as a Canadian Heritage River due to its cultural and historical value...... but I don't know either.... just happy to find this little gem.
"thank You God for life and ears to hear this. Amen."
stevie nicks has one of the most instantly recognizable voices of all time...whether you like it or hate it. i've always been a fan and when i saw this performance live, i loved it. yes, her voice is harsh these days, but thats what years of singing, smoking, boozing, and just living will get you. her voice is harsh, but still she sounds great and its great to know that such a great singer is willing to perform such a great song. most 'artists' today favor only their own songs.
😂
OMG! My Grandma is singing along from heaven!!
yup
lol grandma im laughing too
May God bless your grandmother's soul. She had wonderful taste in music.
.
They bring new meaning to this song. Just beautiful. Damn, I'm a 74 year old man listening to Stevie Nicks for the first time and I've got tears running down my cheeks. I've head Chris sing before but to hear the two of them together is beyond words for me. Gotta love that sexy sway of Miss Stevie when she's singing.
Me too, but I`m only 70
Jenniferr Blake I'm listening at this moment.
So am I. What country are from

Greetings from Australia
❤❤❤ Love. The way they sing this!! A REAL CLASSIC For Sure!!
I never would have thought of Stevie and RedRiverVslley. Love it!!
There are so many great versions of this song but there is something so special about this one. Maybe it is partly because these experience rockers are playing a simple country song without either paying it false homage or putting it down. It is straight from the heart. And Stevie Nicks is wonderful.
i'm a huge country music fan,and have many different versions of this song in my collection. This version just blows me away.Wonderful.
Gene Autrey.
Today, august 19, 2022, I discover Stevie Nicks's voice; this voice is very great for this song. Best wishes from France (Europe). Jo
jo luttringer: Best wishes from Texas, Jo!
Been tuning in to this for the last 9 yrs.. Never gets old.
It's obvious that Stevie loves this song from her heart and singing with immense intimacy, no wonder she looks young to her age. The music itself is mentally relaxing, so her attitudes does.. Her mind is in peaceful states most of the time. My dad used to whistle this music and such music, very peaceful, kind and generous man.
Linda letra linda música tudo de bom...
Just love Stevie Nicks vocal and the gentleman Chris Isaak. Awesome........
My young years were in the Red River Valley- my Cowboy Grandpa had a Ranch and I’d ride with him to move the cattle in pastures. My Mother was a musician and either sang this with guitar accordion or piano. It’s SOOO familiar. Love it. My eldest son sent me this ffor Thanksgiving Day. ♥️🌺
This is a song I have always loved and this version is beautiful. Love both their voices. Amazing.
Hello Maureen… How are you doing?
MY LORD, HOW BEAUTIFUL CAN A WOMAN BE.....
How beautiful can a man be.....
what a tremendous duet, I listen to this often.
This was my dad's favorite song I am sure he is in heaven enjoying it
Sheryl Coblentz I'm sure that he is. May God bless you.
My Mom used to rock us to sleep with that song and now I rock my kids to this song. This is the best version ever- so talented.
From a Texan who lives on the Red River valley, this is just outstanding.
Michael Sherwood: As a Texan who was mighty proud, as a child, when I first learned to play it on the harmonica - I agree with you!!!
SidsCardShop I too enjoyed my harpoon as a kid. Still have it.
Considering that the Red River in question is the one in Canada and the song dates to the time of the 1st Riel Rebellion, I'm glad you Texans like our Canadian music. Google the history of the song if you don't believe me.
Stevie Nicks is awesome! She was awesome 40 years ago... she's still awesome.
+Lalo Lalouziane I remember when she recorded Don't Drag My heart around with Petty, his only request was "know the words'....she was awesome in the beginning, ain't nothing changed
Steven, That's funny. She really is awesome, then and now. Funny that Petty made that request of her.
your fine yourselve
She is 60 here...
Ronald Feedback Stevie was born in 1948 so she would have been 70 at the time, right?
Something never grow old. This song touches my heart like very few others can . . It`s not how many years you`ve spent, it`s how you spend you`re years.
+Littlebricksfusion That's a wonderful sentiment. Thanks for sharing!
My pleasure! *****
+Littlebricksfusion Ditto
Littlebricksfusion....very wise. Time and tide wait for no one.
Littlebricksfusion amen to that
What a beautiful and respectful rendition of this classic from America's songbook!

It's like a miracle, nobody knows for sure who wrote it and when still so many generations enjoyed it.

This is super swell, just like anything and everything Chris does, really like Michael Martin Murphys version as well.
My grandmother used to sing this to me, so it now has a special place in my heart
Absolutely fantastic
I love Stevie Nicks I worked in radio and was backstage at a 1977 Fleetwood Mac concert in Buffalo. Stevie walked by twice where I was with other media guys she was amazingly beautiful and still is today. She has made this old western song one of my favorites...
I FIRST HEARD THIS SONG WHEN I WAS IN THE ARMY DURING WORLD WAR II.IT SEEMS TO HAVE BEEN PLANTED IN ME.VERY EMOTIONAL.
same with me. cannot get enough of it
Anthony Funigiello I've been pklaying it daily ever since I heard them sing this for the first time.

Two of the greatest voices ever. I am awestruck
1929modelagirl Oh, I agree. I am also "awestruck" as you say and I'm a 74 year old man.

Great Rendition of a beautiful song over a hundred Years Old. can remember My Parents singing along when it came on the radio over 60 Years ago. CHEERS.
wow, never thought I would hear Ms Nicks sing Red River Valley - don't know but never put the two together, haha - LOVE IT !!!
2007reb Me either! It is really, really good.
+2007reb Me neither, she kicks all the "singers" out today
She can sing anything, and a new younger singer will be as good as her , Miley Cyrus!
This duet works so well. The raw quality of Stevie's voice is tempered with the smoothness of Chris's
Stevie & Chris, I am blown away. That was tremendous. I have never heard a more special recording of Red River Valley. It was my Pop's favorite song. He was a old country preacher. You would have liked him. He was special himself.
I will be re-listening to this and sharing. Thank you for this recording. It is an official favorite.
Take good care,
Jennifer Terry
Love Chris Isaac's voice.
He's got a Nice Voice that's true . but Stevie Nicks does It much better !! I dont know why , but this is Just my opinion
I love the way she just belts it out there....no holding back!
Donald Modaro: I feel the same way - like it is the most important thing she ever did.
preciate it!
Save your Confederate $$$, the South will rise again!
I'm not a big Stevie Nicks fan but I give credit where credit is due , she nails it here .
I love it
Your name is good for you, how could you not like her
@@paulfreelife4111 , so you like every singer ever ?
i’m sure there are some big names you are not crazy about .

Stevie nicks voice is complimented with another singer. When she sings alone, I can’t stand it.
I enjoy hearing contemporary singers sing old hymns and folk songs from past centuries, and also popular songs from the late 1800s and early 1900s. There are many hundreds of lovely old songs from the past that I hope will be sung forever.
Very nice old song. I used to sing it very often when I was kid and adult.Thank you.
An inspired collaboration on a song that is a true piece of Americana. Wow...best version I've ever heard of this song.
Daniel Martine "best version I've ever heard of this song.". Amen to that.
I remember this old song when I was a little boy .I used to love it.
This is too cool - got to admit I never imagined Stevie & Chris doing this song but what a version
superb singers and song, sung the way it should be. remember this song from my childhood, my father and his brothers singing it. Thanks so much for this great memory!
My daddy sang this to me - this is the best version I have seen
ace
Stevie Nicks can sing anything, she's one of my top 3 favorite female singer's all time. Beautiful voice and an all around Beautiful woman.
A beautiful rendition of one of the most beautiful songs of all time.
i have always loved this song and this is the best rendition i have heard in my 60yrs
.not only stevie nicks but the excellent backing
Stevie really showed the country side of her voice in this song. I think her heart was in country all the time. Chirs Isaak is at his best in this song. I understand he is one of the most loved singers by his peers...rightly so. I think he has the most beautiful nose God ever gave any man.
Thanks for a beautiful version of this lovely song.
I'm glad I could make it available.
Stevie nicks has real talent.her voice and her ability will always be remembered forever just like elvis
I first heard this song many years ago, when someone very special sang it for me in the car!! Every time after when we were on a trip, I would ask him to sing it for me!! He has a great voice, fantastic memories!!!❤
stevie nicks sings this version the best ever
keep coming back and listening to this over and over every few weeks love it
Stevie Nick's, red river valley, is the best, I love it .
I think Stevie Nicks PROVES.....with this song and doing a Buddy Holly tribute, that she can and DOES.....sing ANY DAMN thing she wants. She is a class act.
If Stevie wants she can sing reggae music
I also mourn the loss of Ronstadt's voice. My favorite showcase of her voice is "Hobo's Meditation" from "Trio". The purity of pitch, effortless power and perfect vibrato almost brings tears to my eyes - and I never tire of hearing it.
I had the pleasure of seeing Isaak in concert in 1990/91 when I worked for a concert promoter. I knew who he was because "Wicked Game" was popular but went to the show mostly for my job. Let me tell everyone - he gives one of the best live performances you will see. He can really work a room and an audience. His show ranks in my top 10, if not top 5, live concert performances ever. I've seen Stevie with FMac too. Gotta love her uniqueness. She paved the way for a lot of other women out there.
Red River Valley is the most beautiful, unforgettable and melodic song ever. I love hearing it played on the harmonica.
Superb !!!!
You must have magic in your fingers.
This is a beautiful vocal interpretation of one of the greatest songs of all time. The instrumental bridging is also beautiful.
Yes

A voice as big as that Red River Valley.
This is a classic video, Stevie Nicks and Chris Isaak., nothing better….I love him so much…
My mom sang it to me. I sang it to both my children at bedtime. My daughter now does the same with her son. True to the original great rendition by Stevie and Chris.

A great duo singing my favorite 'cowboy' song!
Stevie and I have one thing in common. We both went to Menlo Atherton High School. I played this song on my 70th birthday on harmonica accompanied by the Quebe Sisters Band
Awesome version ... Stevie Nicks, what a legend - adds her own spiel to a lovely melody
Oldie but goldie! Any of you folks who ever slow danced to this song?
ABSOLUTELY the BEST I've ever heard this song by ANYONE !!!! WOW ------WOW------WOW
Stevie's grandfather R.J.. taught her how to harmonize when she was a very young little girl.
You taught her well.
Thank you grandpa.!
This is just a great version of a classic American traditional song. Bravo, Ten Thumbs up. Couldn't be better, I love it.

Roy Fokker I hear ya my friend...sometimes I cannot finish the song.
My late Uncle used to play accordion and sing this song when I grew up (Late sixties/Early 70s) .
I believe it to be one of his absolute favorites
This was my dad's favorite song and he'd sing it to me when we would were in his old work truck. Watching this brought back a flood of memories of my late father. Thanks for posting it!
Paul
Glade to see some folks feel the same way I do. My mother sang this to me when I was very young.
Still love it after 8 years.
The arrangement is PERFECT.
Some songs never die❤️❤️So beautiful and emotional 😭
Many versions. This is easily the best.
Come and sit by my side if you love me ....deadly version very fond off both
Greetings from Dublin Ireland brothers and sisters...sang this all my life
Through...CLASSIC
Kerry Evand Are you there Kerry? Greetings from Vancouver, Canada.
Must be the very best version of this evergreen... Love Stevie´s Haunting, Divine and Captivating Voice*
Holy cow, what an amazingly sweet take on RRV!
I'm glad you like it!
Absolutely. Stevie's ethereal rock queen voice is so commanding and so unexpectedly emotional with this old cowboy classic...it caught me totally off guard. Chris has a more classic approach to it, and together it's beautiful. It immediately reminded me of Springsteen's take of This Land I Your Land...the monuments of rock 'n roll understanding the roots of American music. Seriously, it was awesome to hear this...
