This is a brillainet video, thank you! Very clearly presented, and taking into account all difficulties and challenges along the way. I thought the hard part was the NLV application, but this next phase is a whole new level of stress! Thanks again for making this supportive video.
Well done. Our experience was very similar (Asturias), but folks should, as you stated, keep in mind that some processes could be different. For example, in Oviedo, at the fingerprint appointment, they told us to go on-line and make an appointment for any time after 6 weeks to pick up the card. There was no phone call involved.
Speaking Spanish is obviously great, but you don’t need to be fluent to navigate the NLV process or to move to Spain. But it definitely helps to work on your Spanish before - and after - you move here! 😁
sir i had also my finger prints done now waiting for my trc card. your video help me out a lot in the whole process of applying and gettting trc card. thank you.
For anyone reading this wanting to go to Valencia: the Patraix office is really chill, they literally don't care unless you can prove you got the appointment on time
That bldg was likely built during the ETA époque when Intel and policing ops were combined. Northern Ireland had similar types of fortresses during the IRA époque. Definitely a process that can very easily go sideways but your determination, attention to detail in addition to helpful and understanding local fonctionnaires carried the day. Félicitations ‼️👏⁉️🏆🥂
I didn't have the chance to watch this video before... well done!!! (clearly, a congrats arriving almost a year later!) -- I know that when you are doing all sort of admin steps in a new country, the language layer you have to go through is sometimes intimidating. Being from Argentina but having done all those things in New Zealand over a decade ago, I definitely understand the stress you go through when completing forms and waiting for calls from someone that might speak too fast .... You pronounce the words in Spanish very well!! I imagine your Spanish is way better after a full year :) Did you guys do your NIE in the US or you did it when arrived in Spain? :)
I’m in the process of applying for my NLV. I’ll be staying at an Airbnb and looking for something more permanent once I’m there. I didn’t know about the TIE though and that I’d basically only have 30 days to find a place. Unfortunately what I need isn’t as simple as any old apartment. I’m in the states and didn’t want to rent something sight unseen. What happens if you can’t find a permanent address within that 30 days?
We stayed in an airbnb for the first month and during that time found our apartment. We honestly don't know what happens if you can't get a permanent address in those 30 days. At the minimum, you'll need the address before you have your NIE fingerprinting appointment. So maaaaaaybe there's some wiggle room. But you do have to prove that you booked the appointment before those 30 days are up. Typically, the appointments are after the 30 day period because the likelihood of the appointment being available during the first 30 days is usually very small. Good luck with your NLV!
Nice thanks for the write up. Wait, video up. Wait. Anyways I’m (allegedly) watching all your videos to be prepared for an (alleged) move heh. Commenting to show support.
Hey there, I've been following and probably watched this video about 5 times now as I'm going through the padron/TIE process (just started). I'm an American in Valencia, Spain. I went to get my padron today and got turned away because I couldn't understand what questions she was asking me in Spanish and she wouldn't let me use my phone for Google translate cause we were in a government building. I am getting a translator and going back and hopefully will be okay. My question is do you remember the questions they asked you at your TIE application appointment? I'm scheduled for December 26th (day after Xmas) and not sure I will get a translator to join me, so any help you can provide or remember would be greatly appreciated.
Every city is so different. That's interesting that they didn't let you use google translate. For the TIE appointment, they asked us to confirm our contact details (address, phone number, etc). That was about it. But they also explained a complicated TIE pick-up process.
Thanks for another excellent video on the NLV process! One question regarding the Modelo 790 form (or any online form); do you have the option to print to pdf (so you can take the file somewhere to print it)? You guys are a hoot, love your videos.
Thanks so much! Regarding the Modelo 790 form, yes it's possible to print as a PDF. That's what we did. We emailed our pdfs to the fotocopia and they printed them for us.
This is a great video, thank you so much! I have a quick question, I was able to get all the documents and went to the police station after getting the appointment, however they told me that they need to first understand what kind of residence I have and the only thing they checked was my passport and didn't look at other documents. Did anyone else get the same or similar cases?
Hey, question for you guys; did you have to do the Certificado de registro after you got your TIE card? Trying to understand the process better, but I'm getting conflicting information and I wasn't sure if the TIE card was the end of the process.
Hi just saw your channel and thank you for a very informative video on NLV process. Just like to ask how and why did you choose Ourense and not other city? Thank you
Hey, Chris. Glad it helped! We wanted to try living in a less busy part of Spain (Galicia) and we wanted to avoid big cities like Madrid and Valencia, so Ourense was where we landed.
Thanks so much for your videos! Very helpful!!! Just picked up my NLV in LA last week. I'm trying to make an appt for the TIE but it won't proceed past the first page. I click on Acceder al Procedimiento but it won't proceed to the next screen. Is that what you were speaking about regarding the "site being down". I've tried using Firefox and Chrome.
You’re welcome! Congratulations on your NLV! The issue you describe is exactly what we meant by the site being down. Just keep trying another day. We used Chrome browser and it eventually worked fine.
I am having the same issue, time and time again....I'll try again during Spain business hours and hope that works, I downloaded Firefox too.... thank you though, I' ve just found you after successfully obtaining my visa yesterday and now planning the next steps! @@DaysWeSpend
Great video, thank you ! It looks like some sort of challenge and time to book a TIE appointment. Why you did not book the appointment in advance before even flying to Spain if were knowing the city you were going to live?:)
Thank you! We did book our TIE appointment weeks before we left. It's really tough to find appointments since they are released at the same time of day once a week. They get snapped up very quickly.
Yes, you don't need an address to book the appointment, but you do need to know which city and police station to go to. We used our American phone numbers and left the street address blank. During the appointment, they ask for updated information and you give them your new phone number and address.
Hey guys, great video, thank you so much. Two quick questions? (1)You mentioned that you completed the Proof of payment model 790 code 012 form online then printed it. So, will I need to purchase a printer? (2)Will I need a Spanish tel number for the TIE? ie should I purchase a Spanish cellphone soon after arriving in Spain? Regards, Peter
You either need a printer, or you can bring your forms to a print shop. There are many of them in Spain. Just search "copias" into Google Maps. You will need a Spanish telephone number for the TIE. You can get a Spanish cell phone plan after arriving and change your phone number during your fingerprinting appointment.
Thank you guys! A problem I will have is that I will probably be bringing one or even two cats with me. I can leave them in the UK at home with a cat sitter while I am in Spain during the first 30 days, getting my TIE. But it's surely going to be more difficult finding a house/apartment suitable for cats. Do you have any thoughts/insights? I'm sure that there must be retirees moving with a NLV who bring felines with them? @@DaysWeSpend
Hi! :) I’m currently in Barcelona but it’s impossible to get an appointment for the nie here; can I get an appointment in another province like girona or Valencia for example even if my domicilio is in Barcelona ? Thanks
We aren't sure if this is allowed, but our guess is that it's not...? Check your local expat groups. Usually these appointments are made available on a specific time and day of the week. Someone will know when that is.
Very helpful video, thanks. You dont mention having to have proof of medical insurance, maybe you already showed that to get your visa. For EU citizens we still also need this medical insurance even though we are theoretically entitled to Spanish healthcare the same as in our own country in europe. Its just another hurdle. Also I believe you can not register for your empadronamiento until you have your TIE and an address., nor can you open a Spanish bank account without it, nor as you show in another video can you rent an apartment without it. So you cant open the bank account, to rent the apartment , to register for empadronamiento, to get your TIE. Its a whole vicious cycle of bureaucracy. Plus to be clear when you try to get an appointment online to apply for your TIE the website almost always says "no appointments available at present, try again later" , so you have to keep logging onto their website multiple times per day over weeks until at last there is a spot available. And all of this is in Spanish with no translation available. Hiring a "gestor" to do all of this for you is an option.Overall its a nightmare.
We had to show proof of medical insurance when we applied for the visa. It's not part of getting your TIE if you have applied for the NLV. Yes, bureaucracy can be so tricky. We got our empadronamiento without the TIE. You just need a signed lease agreement, your NIE (which is on your visa), and your passport. It did take us a very long time to get a Spanish bank account. We used Wise and N26 bank until we could get a local Spanish one.
For the TIE, you need a lease and that lease gets you the empadronamiento at your local government office. We did not need to have proof of accommodation for the initial visa.
I understand the frustrations of a bureaucracy process, it took me seven years to get my residency in California (I am from Asturias). Regarding Spain, the bureaucracy there is not the best but if I can give you a good piece of advice, I will tell you to try to do everything at a personal level. To accomplish anything in Spain it is better to deal with government officials face to face since rules can be broken, steps can be shorten and specially connections can be stablished with government officials. Other very good option it is to hire the services of a "Gestoria" that they will do all the legal papers for you.
Absolutely hiring an expert who is already familiar with the bureaucratic processes as well as knowledgeable of the staff of the various departments is the best way to go, especially if you are just arriving into the country and do not have experience with moving overseas.
Do you have to leave your passport?? I’ve been hearing that you have to leave your passport😮 (all of the time on the internet) and it takes five weeks or more to get it back when you get your TIE is this correct?
Hello! When we applied for our NLV, consulate insisted on a Spanish address and we gave that of our healthcare agent, who is based in Malaga. But we want to stay in Granada and do all paper work from there, does the Malaga given address have any influence or relevance now? Thanks a lot!
That sounds complicated. I'm sorry that we don't have any advice for you since we haven't experienced this. Our guess, the empadronamiento will prove that you live in Granada.
