This is my favorite Dead video on You Tube... LOVE the crowd (captures the joy of being there), the sound of the drums, and Jerry is RIGHT ON! And frankly I think many Terrapins from '93 are better than from any era, and I saw my first at my first show, Englishtown 9/3/77. Thank you, Jer...
They spent their lives doing live concerts rather than just selling records. They drew people of all ages to their shows, and they spread their magic from town to town. They were a band for the people, and those people came to listen, and dance and enjoy the spirit of friendship and peace. No two shows in the same town were ever the same. A golden band, great music and a magic that will never be surpassed. Can anyone bring that magic back again?
This was my very first show. The show the night before was snowed out due to the Storm of the Century in March of 1993. They opened the show with a perfect Cold Rain and Snow. The first set also included a stellar Brown Eyed Woman. After this incredible Terrapin, they went into a very spacey jam and then into Corrina with another jam, I think. They close with an breathtaking Sella and solid Stones. Long live the Grateful Dead!
Went with a ticket and no room to stay in-- awesome show!! Mad scene at hotel with hippies washing each other in indoor pool. Thanks to whoever put me up! GD 4 EVER- Kieran
A friend of mine in the spring of 93 gave me two tapes 3.11 Rosemont , and 3.14 richfield . Rosemont is IMHO one of the best underrated shows the Dead ever played ( With monster versions of all songs ] . But Richfield had this Awesome Terrapin ,preceded by Touch of Grey , Samson , Way to go home , and then this epic , powerful version . And a delightful 1st set to boot .. The spring of 93 had many great moments , Chapel Hill NC . A couple of the Uniondale NY shows .. thnx
W/o a doubt 1 of my fave Dead/Garcia tunes. I jumped outta my skin when they played this and Estimated Prophet, both from maybe my favorite Dead CD. A real classic.
God i wish I could have been born early enough to enjoy a gd concert. I'd give the rest of my life just to hear jerry sing "Inspiration". nice vid, thanks
i remember coming up from florida, unprepared for the blizzard. holiday inn opened up their huge atrium for everyone to sleep in... the biggest slumber party ever!! so fun... actually did walk barefoot thru the snow on that run. thanks to all you out there that keeps making it happen.
I was looking through all my video comments from like a year or two ago and EVERY music thing had been taken down by youtube. but EVERY grateful dead one was still up there, nothing else was though. For that reason, and of course the amazing music. THANK YOU GD!!!!
Great version similar to Greensboro 89--one of the 5 best things i've ever seen in concert-lights above stage set up differently--no circle--just a hundred lights in a couple lines that lit up the Coliseum like the frickin Cape Hatteras Lighthouse as he gave us all "INSPRATION"--it was mind blowing
I was there also... The blizzard show... i remember the scene was SO FRIGGIN' COLD that i was the only one of my group of five friends who actually got out of the car and enjoyed the scenery!! Heckuva show, though, Brownie!!
@madabox, thank you for uploading this. I have so many memories from this show; my buds and I from Indy were staying at the Red Roof Inn in Akron, got snowed in the first night, ended up going to the lobby for munchies for everyone. I wondered why the desk clerk was looking at me funny, and then when I saw the cop on my way back to the room, I realized that I had forgotten to take the joint out of my mouth! He just smiled and asked if I was keeping warm, then walked on, laughing.
I remember this one well ! We got totally snowed in the night before . All we could do was listen to tapes and SMOKE OUR ASSES OFF in the motel rooms . I brought 2lbs of the finest Canadian Kind I could get my hands on with me from Toronto ( Spare Tire , I had very big balls when I was younger . It was alot of fun at the time but now that I look back I was Fucking Crazy !!! )Anyway I digress , Great show , Peace & Love , Tevan from Toronto .
93 was good times hmm ,boy how could I forget that year .....................heaven on earth, lovers come and go ... but the band keeps playing this is terrapin at its best !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is the absolute closest thing one is going to hear in regards to actually "being at" a Dead show. It captures the love and reverence that the crowd had towards Jerry, as well as the relationship many of us have with this song. There is something beautiful and mysteriously uplifting about Terrapin; deeply personal and achingly optimistic which digs down really deep. Maybe it's the cadence. Maybe it's the melody. Maybe it's the references to that old Irish folklore in Hunter's lyrics. Perhaps it's all of the above. Whatever the case, this video, this version, captures the pure joy of the crowd and the comradary between Deadheads and the band as we listened, one more time, to the storyteller until his tale was told and done...
Wow, thanx for posting. I remember that it was cold as fuck this night and it seemed half the crowd was feeling the effects of the massive snow ordeal the day before. Enjoyable show, but not the monster that we all had high hopes for. Peace.
I was there too, on my first actual tour. The Blizzard of the Century canceled the first show. The Blizzard of Garcia came the next night. INCREDIBLE show!
this is a BJ Bootleg.....recorded from section 118 about half way up.... I was next to BJ, the guy videotaping it.... he had a sony Hi8 on a tripod...pretty slick setup.
i,ll never forget on the second night jerry sang "snowed so hard that the roof caved in" from brown eyed women. the place went fuckin nuts. i pull that tape out once in a while and my jaw just drops. i miss ya jerry, everyday that goes by i think of you...................thanks again!
..as a 5+ shows( I know, trust me I sat out many other shows for drugs ,ripped off,or just no tick.)this was the song I so wanted to hear, and I got my blessing in the form of INSPIRATION I believe at RFK 93 my last show,...If I'm wrong please let me know because I had also did the tour up in Nasauaa New Yorrk in the spring.
!!!WTF you left me hanging where's the outro?!!! I appreciate seeing this at all though, really, thankyou. First "I Fought The Law" encore at this show. Take that for what its worth.
Actually I have seen Warren & Co. perform this twice. Once at Mountain Jam and at Red Rocks. Warren owns every song he plays, his or otherwise. He was incredibly good this year with the Dead.
If Jerry's guitar playing was declining during this time period, it certainly isn't evident in this video. Beautiful playing by one of the best. It's a bummer the song is cut short... I so wanna see and hear the rest of the solo.
I hate to say that I was one of the people who rushed in after somebody popped open an emergency exit, but, I was one of the few who didn't get caught. Incidents like that always made the band look bad, but if I had to do it again, I would still be seeing one of the best Terrapins ever.
Incredible performance. Probably the next best Hunter song ever. Ripple being the shit. I always want, Phil, Bobby or Warren to play this song. xtremenortherner, you have it right. Jerry wasn't a rock star in his mind, but took us to places we had never seen, or experienced. No doses neede!..JS.
OH yeah I forgot about that. There was a guy who did a Dead radio show on the John Carrol University radio station. The week before the shows he was talking about how he was going to straight from each of the Richfield shows to the station, and play them over the air (he apparenlty had made those arrangements with security or whatever). Obviously, the first show was cancelled, and I don't think he bothered doing what he said hew would with the show on the 14th.
I'll second that. I've been to a few Dead (post-Jer) shows when Mr. Hunter was playing in between sets...I was shocked how many people asked me who Robert Hunter was.
Oh damn I thought this was the dead covering Barrett's "Terrapin" that would've been cool. Anyone heard "Whatever happened to the baby lemonade?" Featuring Phil Lesh? If you like or respect Syd Barrett and Phil and you're into experiments (which if you like Barrett and Lesh you do) check it out on youtube. Its strange, not a ton too it but I found it to be fun and interesting and I'm glad Phil could rep Syd a little bit.
That's not Tiger Jerry's playing there, it's Rosebud. Tiger had just normal guitar electronics, whereas Rosebud had the guitar synth interface. You can see the extra cable that ran to his guitar synth rig, and the control arrangement is also a little different. I recall reading where he said he used Tiger as a backup after he got Rosebud (and I recall he said at one point, the neck on Rosebud got broken so he did have to use it at least for awhile), but this is Rosebud he's using here.
I own Nassau 3.31 - sb . And the rosemont 3.11 - aud , and 3.10 - sb - just in case I live in Chile - South Am . Im a bit far to make a trade w you , but maybe we can secure some kind of trade . Staying releveant to this page , the video is excellent , never had seen one of that night . The band look so inspired ( even Bobby ] . 1993 was a new beginning for the Dead . We have to cherish those small spaces in time that the Dead really had All cylinders goin ' ( : peace
I loved dancing at Richfield. Those dark open spaces in the top corners. Such memories. Such places they took us.
Kerr was special no one else could ever fill the big man’s shoes
LOVED this show. One of the strongest Terrapin's I've seen live. The SNOW! So beautiful. Memories of LOVE. Love to you ALL>
This was my very first show. The show the night before was snowed out due to the Storm of the Century in March of 1993. They opened the show with a perfect Cold Rain and Snow. This is one of my favorite tunes. Thanks for posting it! I LOVE to hear the crowd!
this proves there WERE some very nice moments in the latter years....thanks for posting
Wow! I was there, and I remember being snowed in at the hotel for the one that was canceled. This was a beautiful treat.
W/o a doubt 1 of my fave Dead/Garcia tunes. I jumped outta my skin when they played this and Estimated Prophet, both from maybe my favorite Dead CD. A real classic.

I was there!!! And this is my favorite tune:D
"Statements just seem vain at last" man those are some awesome lyrics
I was looking through all my video comments from like a year or two ago and EVERY music thing had been taken down by youtube. but EVERY grateful dead one was still up there, nothing else was though.
For that reason, and of course the amazing music. THANK YOU GD!!!!
Jerry is all smiles. Instant goosebumps to see and hear this. Thanks!
Jerry is singing and playing with passion here. Sounds good.
MAGIC
That's a solid Terrapin or 93 , and I love the crowds enthusiasm!!
Great version

Heckuva show, though, Brownie!!
I remember this show... and this song.
At the time, I was convinced Jerry was singing to me... and me alone.
Good times.... sigh.
Awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!

what was the "grass" like in 1993?
This was an incredible show! Jerry in what had become a rare display brought us to tears.
Went to a lot of shows, the energy during this particular one was just amazing. I miss it.
This is the live sound you want to here!!!!
His job was to shed light and not to master! We'll always you Jerry, more than you could possibly imagine.
I remember this one well ! We got totally snowed in the night before . All we could do was listen to tapes and SMOKE OUR ASSES OFF in the motel rooms . This was my first show. thanks for posting.
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, post the rest! That brings back chills!
no band will ever be this incredible...period...
93 was good times hmm ,boy how could I forget that year .....................heaven on earth, lovers come and go ... but the band keeps playing this is terrapin at its best !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Woooooooooooooooooow!!!! Only word that comes to mind is breathtaking!

Great song great show. I miss all the people I have meet and went to shows with
I was there too, on my first actual tour. The Blizzard of the Century canceled the first show. The Blizzard of Garcia came the next night. INCREDIBLE show!
A more recent terrapin, thanks!! Outstanding
this is a BJ Bootleg.....recorded from section 118 about half way up....

I was upstairs and nothing sounded good! Had an excellent time in the hotel bar the previous night during the blizzard, though!!!
Grate Post! Brings back memories....
This lifted my shitty day, thank you!
Snowstorm the night b4 canceled the show, which made for a wild crowd on this night ! Never forget those couple of days !
Actually I have seen Warren & Co. perform this twice. Once at Mountain Jam and at Red Rocks. Warren owns every song he plays, his or otherwise. He was incredibly good this year with the Dead.
damn, if only i could have seen this live!
last good year they had,I was lucky to see them in '93.

the perfect storm during the perfect storm
"storyteller makes no choice, soon you will not hear his voice"...that line sounds prophetic...such an energetic performance, tickles my spine.
Remember how hard it snowed the night before! Wow the memories...
I turned one on this day. It's good to know that something happened.
I hate to say that I was one of the people who rushed in after somebody popped open an emergency exit, but, I was one of the few who didn't get caught. Incidents like that always made the band look bad, but if I had to do it again, I would still be seeing one of the best Terrapins ever.

one of the most memorable runs.
I love how it seems like Bobby was forcing Corinna, then Jerry takes over w/Terrapin.
good catch
Magical.
Hey you should check out Gov't Mule's version of Terrapin Station to hear Warren play it.
very very nice.
Thank you. I was at this show. Wow. Remember the fucking snow?
