Jovi Antares Why because she's north korean that she's particullary beautiful ? I don't know, i don't say they're not but it's systematic for someone...
I remember in a previous video they were doing conversions of the currency, since he's a diplomat I'm wondering if there might be a purpose for doing that maybe like someone earlier had stated that it links to inventory purposes or even keeping track of how the income fairs for taxes.
They write down your every move, I assume he looked at the tofu and beans a little bit too hard, probably still doing time in the labor camps still....some gotta learn the hard way
I've seen a few comments asking for English subtitles - if you click the [CC] button on the video options (or turn on Captions in mobile app), you can turn them on. Not everything being said is translated, but most is. Also yes they accept USD in a lot of places in Pyongyang. International trade is mostly done in US Dollars but North Korea isn't allow to exhange them on forex markets due to US sanctions. Banks in North Korea will exchange foreign currency for NK Won - and the exchange rate doesn't change much so it's easy for merchants to know how much each currency is worth. By accepting USD and some other foreign currencies, the government can stockpile them for trading. It also makes it easier for tourists to pay for things - Egypt has a similar concept for this reason. To shopkeepers - money is money.
@zackarymead2785 Maybe it's true. But when I was a kid in the late 90s, I was with grandparents, they had similar stores downtown. Few people went there either, because people already know what is inside and they don’t need it. Whoever wanted to buy something, did it a long time ago.
i can understand all of his conversations. he speaks bahasa indonesia to his wife and basic korean language (basic, thats why i can understand!). he did nothing suspicious. its just a basic communication :) he is definitely not fake doing stuffs in north korea!
she is a life savior, secretive filming is not ok anywhere in the world, excpecially in NK, the lady is smart for she does not want no troulbe, you are saved for that reason.
very informative description! thanks! 4years to explore north korea ohh man :D awesome experiences! hope you got dozens of video to upload and show us :)
They have a big inventory and lots of female sales workers. No heat and no lights. One customer with a big parking lot that is almost empty. How do they do it?
Foreign currency is welcomed because the country is largely barred from foreign exchange markets - it can use foreign currency accepted as payment to either stockpile or trade with other countries who will happily accept dollars as payment.
Anonymax Yeah, same the GDR. But they let exchange as lowest 25 Deutsche Mark (DM) into 25 DDR-Mark (M) for every person how travel over the border for this day. Exchange Office was only at border or at internationally Airport. Change it back into DM only if it no coins, and of course it was forbidden to smuggle coins over the border, too! So do you loose mostly your money. lf you use $, £, or ¥ they exchange it first in DM, then in M. Only at special shops (Intershop) do you can pay with debit card, credit cards or true real money. Sure the prices was a little higher too. With the real true money of the foreigner they pay all international bills, of course all socialists communists countries must accept goods of the GDR too.
That is because north korean won is so useless. The Kim's government declare the exchange rate for $1 as approx. 80 won, but the truth is in NK black market $1 worth more than 40k won, but north koreans are never allowed to exchange won for any foreign currencies, Kim kept all the currency in his pocket, there has been videos revealing these underlying economy by former economy minister of North Korea who escaped around 10 years ago.
1:45 Open things mean do you buy it. Here in Thailand all is hard in plastic, thai people love to open and test products. Not a good kind to shop tea I think.
He doesn't seem to speak Korean very well. Not that I can, but they seem to find it difficult to understand him inmost videos. He also looks "rather foreign"!
At 6:22 there is Farsi writing on the box, I think cigarettes because it's written something about health. Quite surprising actually, it may be import or marketed for Iranians.
in 6:23 its cigarette with warning sign in PERSIAN language and other side the box write with Korean language .... its funny you cant find that cigarette in Persian country like Afghanistan Iran or Tajikistan I wonder why they write in Persian and which country make that box of cigarette?
Jaka, at 3:30 when you bought the "Moranbong Band" DVD, you said that you were at their concert. It's true ? How did you manage to get to their concert? Do you live in the DPRK on a permanent basis or something else? Can foreigners get to the "Moranbong Band" concert? What kind of status need to have besides tourist status? Tourists, I found out, are not allowed.
if you ever come to the uk or usa dont go touching things you aint going to buy and specially dont open any items in the store its not socially accepted
There's frequent blackouts or brownouts due to power supply problems, so even getting reliable lighting in some buildings is a problem. My guess is that the store is quite large and spacious, so without an expensive central heating system installed it won't warm up very easily.

Seems like these "stores" are some random buildings built for a totally different purpose and then turned into a "store". The two bikes looked really weird among all that other unrelated stuff. Does the staff in these stores never smile? I don't think I've ever seen any one of them smile. Great videos, very interesting.
For some reason I really love these videos when you go to stores
IssamBP ok
She has no idea many people from all over the world are looking at her and talking about how beautiful she is 🙂
Just like the girls in the video made in a store in diplomatic area
Strange in this modern world. We can see them but they can't see us. Forgot, NK not a country of the modern world just a gigantic prison.
They sure is!
she is beauty. beauty of north korea
i agree :)
Jovi Antares which one

Are they all wonderful in your country?
@@petergilkes4391 they’re all warm in winter and cool in summer. One of the modern luxurious

I wonder too...
must be so cold, she looks freezing
1. the cashier was pretty.
2. do they hand write the receipts? what are they always writing down when you buy stuff?
They probably have to do handwritten logs of transactions to send back to the government
No electricity, or heat.
i always assume it's for inventory purposes

I like that these stores always seem peaceful.

can you include English subtitles?
everything seems so weird, secretive
I agree
he's basically just talking about the stuff's price stuff in the store with his wife and trying to buy the cheap ones
Drone Capture just click captions
i can understand all of his conversations. he speaks bahasa indonesia to his wife and basic korean language (basic, thats why i can understand!). he did nothing suspicious. its just a basic communication :) he is definitely not fake doing stuffs in north korea!
She looked right into the camera-like she knows it's there.
Lol a go pro on your chest is pretty noticeable of course she knew it was there

she is a life savior, secretive filming is not ok anywhere in the world, excpecially in NK, the lady is smart for she does not want no troulbe, you are saved for that reason.
Every video you watch you see how much each store owner takes pride in every single item they have.
"Store owner"? Are you kidding? ;) Nobody owns any stores in North Korea... They just work there.
