Hatsune miku is very different she isn't real while suisei is, miku a vocaloid is basically an instrument while suisei a vtuber is the blend of a character performed by a real person
I mean technically there is a real person behind Miku: Saki Fujita. It's just that while she lend her voice to the character, Suisei pretty much lends her entire being to hers.

@@Taoru11 and that's a big difference already. Suisei is very much attached to the designed character, while Miku is very much detached from Saki and is a blank fictional canvas.
Fun Fact, the guitarist was the composer of this song, Taku Inoue. You should listen to the original version. Hoshimachi Suisei and Taku Inoue formed a musical unit called Midnight Grand Orchestra.
Suisei had a rough start back in 2018. She made her original character and rigged it for 2d mocap herself. She grew a small but dedicated fanbase but still needed to do side jobs for money. This lead her to be a jack of all trades but she didn't have any one thing that made her unique. She didn't want to give up her identity because she though it was a sort of betrayal to her fans. She ended up begging Hololive for a compromise and joined their music branch INNK music, which lead her to joining Hololive proper and finnaly getting the recognition she worked so hard for.
Yeah, Holostars kinda floundered Suisei. The move really helped her out.
Innk music is defunct and AZKi moved into the main branch April of last year. AZKi is close friends with both Suisei and Tokino Sora.
Love your genuine reaction, as well as your openness to her whole virtual identity. The whole anime persona thing is something she was worried about when coming onto this recording, as many people don't seem to take it seriously (something that was definitely reflected in the premiere live chat) , but she was recommended by her management to get on the mic and skip the warm up and go right into the songs opening to shut up all that prejudice.
Also I'm glad you payed attention to her lyrics, as they're not just her own but also a telling of her story as an artist. To be put simply, before she adopted this whole virtual identity she was rejected from several idol agencies she auditioned for, and after those rejections she started doing music on her own as a youtuber. After lots of hardships and almost entirely quitting, she's eventually gotten to the point where her songs have reached 10s of millions of views each, to the point people call her success a "real life Cinderella story". This song kind of touches on that aspect of her career, but to state that she was never a "Cinderella who just waited on a miracle, but a prince who put in the work", and if her vocals here don't show the talent she's put in I don't know what will.

If you liked this song, you should definitely check out Midnight Grand Orchestra. It’s group by Suisei and Taku Inoue (the composer of this song). They also made 2 songs which are Sanji Juunihun and the original Stellar Stellar. Suisei also has a 2nd album releasing on 25th of this month.
I definitely recommend diving deeper and listening to more of suisei's songs. She also has a collab project with compser Inoue Taku called Midnight Grand Orchestra. Her next album is coming out later this month as well!
She's only a single member of the vtuber entertainment group called hololive (I think they have over 70 members at this point, with various creative talents and fun personalities), but she stands out because of her singing ability. I also recommend Calliope Mori, Tokino Sora, Azki, Tokoyami Towa, Amane Kanata, Irys and so many more from the same group, because they also have standout musical talent among their peers.
To add to that list, Moona Hoshinova and Ayunda Risu from the Indonesia branch as well. Risu has been described by the other hololive members (both JP and EN) as the Celine Dion of Hololive, while Moona is a diva that has powerful vocals and, as proven during the 3d live concert last year, is an amazing dancer as well.
By the way, it's pronounced 'Suu-e say', if that helps any.

I also definitely recommend checking out some of her MVs like the ones for Stellar Stellar or GHOST. She also has a new album - Spectre - coming out. Honestly Hololive in general has a whole bunch of musical content, crazy MVs, concerts and the like (Suisei has one at a 7,000 capacity venue soon, Tokyo Garden Theater). If you enjoy Suisei and her stuff you might like looking at some of the other Hololive members like Watame and her "My Song", Towa and Palette/FACT, etc. There are quite a few members that have put out albums worth of music. Lots of creativity and styles in the group.
I would love it if you checked out more of Suisei, I really enjoyed your commentary for her performance here - it was really insightful; I didn't even notice there was a violin previously.
Always great seeing a first time reaction to either Suisei or Towa-sama. Everyone just gets blown away by how powerful and emotional their voices are. It's so great seeing Suisei's music reach people who aren't already vtuber fans. I hope you check out more of her music as well as songs from other members too. Tokoyami Towa's cover of "Error" or her original "Pallette" is really good too.

These 3 will give you a brief glimpse into the insane range and control of her voice and the many musical genres she's expanded into.

Suisei is one of the best singers in the entire Vtuber sphere. Definitely the best singer in Hololive (Japanese Vtuber company).
Yes she is a real person, and yes she is actually standing in front of that microphone singing for this video. The hololive vtubers have 3D motion tracking suits and software that can display their 3D avatars in real time. It’s actually quite impressive technology.

Suisei just has one of those voices, she's able to put just so much POWER behind her vocals that can completely transcend language to touch the heart of the listener.

Virtual youtubers (or the platform agnostic term virtual artists) have gone viral in the last two or three years and THE FIRST TAKE picking up Suisei is just part of that same process. This is a new cultural phenomenon from Japan. Specially with the Hololive group, which has been holding regular auditions and very carefully selected the best talents and as a result each new debut starts off with 300k subscribers. It's an incredible platform for people that didn't get their break out on their own, and now get a 2nd chance to produce their own brands. Some hololive vtubers like Suisei, Towa, Sora, Okayu and Watame follow serious musical careers, while other focus more on streaming games and chatting.
Their channels have millions of subscribers, fanbases is really massive and very involved and you can see that in the record breaking engagement that THE FIRST TAKE saw in their Suisei announcement (it quickly became their most liked tweet ever). Or in streaming analytics like how Pekora and Miko were 2 of the top 3 most watched female streamers of the world.

Should check out Tokoyami Towa as well, she's from the same agency as Suisei (Hololive). When it comes to singing, Suisei and Towa are the most beloved for their powerful vocals, many talented singers in Hololive, but these two stand out when it comes to power.
I would not be surprised if Towa gets on the first take in the future. :p

Great reaction, I think you'll love her discography, she has some amazing tracks, alongside a lot of her peers in Hololive, like Towa, AZKi, Sora and Watame amongst others. Also, easiest way I explain her name pronounciation is "Swe" as in the start of "Sweet", and "Say" in two short syllables.

for japan and music, the dream stage for any musician/artist is the budoukan. Kaf got to the budoukan stage for her 3rd one man live.
earlier last year, for the vtuber fest (part of the nicovideo choukaigi event) suisei and kaf performed a song together. there should be an eng sub clip where suisei recounts that.
suisei also had kaf on her radio show last week where they talked a bit and exchanged contacts. there is an eng sub clip of that radio segment.
the 2 of them shared their utmost respect for each other's talents

It's a real person in a mocap suit, then they overlay the person with a cg model that mirrors the real actions and movements of the person underneath. It provides anonymity for the performer while also giving the audience and streamer a persona to play around with.

I think the easiest way to explain who Suisei is, is that she is like a Twitch streamer that uses a Virtual 2D/3D avatar to stream instead of her real face. She plays a variety of games but she focuses on music right now as she has an upcoming solo concert on the 28th.

Suisai's music is truly amazing, if you want to check her other music out I would really reccomend it!! My favourite is her cover of Cinema, with two other people (both from the male branch of her company Hololive, pronounced "Holo" as in a Holograph, and "live" as in a livestream) Cinema shows a completely different side of her singing talent, where here she shows off the elegance and beauty her voice can achieve, Cinema is a more fast paced and energetic song.
