  • Sorry about the color quality - not sure what happened but something got on the lens and I didn't notice it on the screen until a couple days later.
This is a super unique boulder field that can be easily lapped from a major lift! It's not terribly long but makes for a really cool experience, all while being less nerve-racking than a comparable run down something like Devil's Fiddle at Killington.
Had to tilt the camera down a little for this one! Definitely not my first time hitting this trail but all my previous attempts at recording this one have gone awry from either a bad camera angle or overall just taking a kinda lame line that was basically an open stretch of snow. I finally got to dabble with some of the rocks on this one, and despite the issue with the lens from today, I'd say this one was pretty good! Someone pointed out this doesn't really look like a double diamond and I agree, though that doesn't mean you should be overconfident if it's your first time.
Advice: There are plenty of ways to go about this area of the resort (hard to call it a single "trail")! Most of the rocks are to skier's left off the main traverse, though the far far left is pretty tame. I went slightly to skier's left on this one since I wanted a rockier route but you can keep going to the right at 1:15 in the video for a smaller selection of obstacles with a slightly steeper pitch.
I highly recommend going down one of the mini-chutes at the end as it's nice to build up some speed or just take advantage of the natural halfpipe! (I ended up only taking half of the one I was talking about but it's hard to miss)
    Overall Difficulty: 5/10
Relative Difficulty (Double Diamond [EX]): 1/10
Accessibility Rating: 4/10 (Requires a narrow and partially uphill traverse or a left-side entrance that skips most of the cool stuff. The traverse sucks a lot when there's more people on it)
Open Trail Index: N/A (No idea, closes in early May though)
    Enjoyment Rating: 9/10

huh. first DD that had me scratching my head. I guess it's because of the rocks? or b/c it's the bottom of a bunch of steeps?

I think it's the rocks, they might be obligated to mark it as such because of the legal definition of a double diamond in Colorado, so it might qualify from some of the steeper drops.
Otherwise it might just be to discourage what would probably be frequent injury from unprepared skiers who might fly through it and go off a low-vis cliff or something lol
