My husband calls leftover night, "The container challenge!" Meaning he wants to clear out as many containers as possible :)
I like it!
That's awesome.
i love clearing out containers! gives me such weird satisfaction to finish up all the leftovers!
Leftover Smorgasbord! 😆That's what we call it too.
I love that !
When I was a kid my grandma had a standing leftover night on Saturday. Saturday evening she would pull out any remaining leftovers from the week. Everyone would make their own plate with what was available and microwave it. If it was a week with no leftovers we got to order pizza. Great way to motivate everyone to use up what we have.
I appreciate your videos so, so much. My mom isn’t in my life so having another mom share their knowledge helps so much.
I learn a ton from Mindy too. I love her kindness and calm. Sending a hello to you. Let's keep learning ✨️
I love how you stressed being frugal is about being efficient with what you decide to buy! YES!! I feel exactly the same. This was a really fun video, thank you!🥘🥗👍
Thanks! Glad I could get that point across. :)
Amen Sister I did this task this morning to be a good steward of what God has given me.
He expects us 2 a good steward whether we hav a Lil or alot. It's all a blessing.
A friend told me many years ago that Sunday evenings were mustgo night. With the look of question on my face she replied, “You know, everything must go from the fridge!” I thought it was some kind of weird animal 😂
I buy pork loin and then slice it into pork chops about 3/4 inch thick, then package and freeze. We cook them on the grill year round, even in North west Iowa. That is the piece of meat that pork chops come from so this works great. I just season with Lawry's seasoned salt, grilled 4 minutes per side. That's the only way I really enjoy pork loin.
My friend slices a full pork loin into five to six roasts and freezes them. She will take out one roast from the freezer and slice it fairly thin and season it up with Greek or whatever seasoning you like and then she just quick fries it in a little bit of olive oil a couple of minutes on each side. Boy oh boy you talk about a good and wonderfully inexpensive meat dish from a very lean piece of meat.
I cut my foundation container also. I was raised by my grandparents who grew up in the Great Depression, so I do not waste ANYTHING. I love your videos. U r awesome!!
Thank you!
I cut open sunscreen, dilute the last bit of conditioner to get out the rest, but I draw the line at toothpaste 😂
I jumping on to say how much I love your channel. I've learned so much from your tips, tricks, and hacks. I love passing it on too. Btw we call reused food containers "poor man Tupperware". It works great for storage and gives the kids a little scavenger hunt for taco leftovers too. Is it Cool whip or taco meat? They won't know until the lid is opened lol. Ty for such great content and being you.
Haha! That’s so true on the containers! “Is this sour cream, or leftover lasagna?” 😂😂😂
Use a dry erase marker to write on top of container and it washes off with soap and cloth.
I did a pantry cleaning out thing but ended up donating it to my 80+ year old grandparents that were in need. I need to start doing it THIS way lol. Glad I could help them though! Today is their 62nd wedding anniversary!!!
I have a friend that drives me crazy about food! She throws so much away! She calls me cheap but I say I’m frugal! I can take a lot of leftovers and make a great meal out of it!
I absolutely LOVE this kind of video!! My favorite thing I'm working on is challenging my use of making leftovers as new meals. Maybe you could share more of these in upcoming videos 😊
I love how you share your processes, I've learned so much from your channel. Thank you 🥰
Dominion is one of our favorite games!
I do this pretty often as well! Pantry cooking is such a great way to save money and not waste food. I love making shelf cooking videos and sharing them with others so we can share ideas with each other ❤. I have one coming out on Sunday and hope it brings people some more ideas.
This is the method that finally won me over on pork loin. Pork loin seasoned chops grilled 8-10 minutes a side depending on thickness. Bring to temperature (digital thermometer) as soon as it’s finished, place them in a closed ziplock to rest. Juiciest meat and perfect. If you over cook loin it’s dry.
honest to goodness, pantry clean outs are one of THE best kinds of helpful videos!
I did exactly that this morning. Making ham soup from leftover ham and cleaning out some vegetables I had hanging around.
waw... great idea with using up all products from the house, even makeup and other products
I never thought of that!
You are a great inspiration ❤️
Love all your recommendations
Thank you!
I really appreciate the time stamps for when I’m short on time thank you ❤
I cut open everything in tubes. The way the tubes are made traps so much inside.
Oh gosh, I know this is an older video but your center part with straight hair is SO GOOD!
it’s like your own at home buffet, choose your own!!!
Leftover night was always my kids favorite mealtime.
My family loves Dominion!! Thank you for all your tips
Your tip about cutting off the top of a squeeze bottle is so great. That’s going to help me with the last of hand lotion pump bottles, I hope! Thanks!
Love this!!!
I love it cosmetics cc cream. Absolutely the best mom foundation, I can get my make up on so quickly. Loved this video, loved the ideas for around the house!
Thank you mindy I’ve learned how to not forget to use what I have and I’ve also use this video to share with my grandkids they love it to thank you so much
That minion on the Instant Pot 😂 love it!
I did this last night. I had a frozen package of zuchinni noodles that had marinara sauce, so I added an individual microwave cup of brown rice, a chopped turkey sausage, and a chopped tomato. It came out great.
I do that trick w tooth paste & denture adhesive etc. Ur so right about how much product left when u can't get any more out.
Awe, Dominion! And, the best foundation - I do the very same thing when it runs low!
Great video with smart and practical ideas 💡!
Pork loins are great for a leaner carnitas! I throw everything in the slow cooker for 8 hrs and then crisp it up in a pan over high heat with oil and some of the juice it was cooked. It’s so good and great for leftovers!!
1-2 lbs pork loin
1 lime juiced
1 lemon juiced
1 orange juiced
Half onion diced
2 garlic cloves
Jalapeño diced
1tsp salt
1tsp cumin
1tsp oregano
Helps use up random things I have around the kitchen and I just skip some ingredients if I don’t have them all and still has been great!
SOOOO CUTE! I need the the minions!!!!
Thank you for the video!
I used to do Leftover Saturday Lunch Buffet, where I put out leftovers heated up, all the crackers or chips I wanted used up, the veggies we needed to eat, etc. and everyone could pick their own stuff and graze on it for a couple of hours as they wanted to. It was fun and easy
I love shredding pork loin! I love this video so many YES! Things for me and a few new genius ideas like the makeup!!! ❤️❤️
We love Dominion!!!! One of our favorites!
God has been putting on my heart that being a good steward doesn't mean buying the cheapest things possible, but buying ethically produced items. Like not purchasing fast fashion items, but buying items that are made ethically. Supporting companies where they're making sure that their employees are treated and paid fairly. And not buying from companies where slave labor is being utilized. It's not easy, but researching companies and using apps like Good on you have helped. My favorite company to put hase clothing, jewelry and fun stuff is Crowned Free, they're on a mission to end human trafficking, so half of their products are made by survivors of human trafficking and a portion of their profits goes toward organizations that fight human trafficking.
Great ideas! I like pulling things out of the fridge and letting my family pick and choose what they want which also means no cook night for me! I always use pork loin for shredded pork - so good!!!
Mindy and family have a great day have fun thanks from Oklahoma
I love Dominion! We have all the expansion packs as well. As usual, another terrific video, Mindy
Haha. I've been doing that with my foundation bottle for weeks! Glad I'm not the only one. 🙂
Every Thursday night we have 'leftovers smorgasbord "!
we do leftovers buffet every Thursday! I take out everything and we choose what we want, sometimes we have weird plate with 3-4 differents things ! If there is still some left, I freeze them and it make great lunchs .
I actually love those kinds of meals! I get to eat a little of several things I like! 😊
Your videos are so well made. I am using your video as inspiration since I am meal prepping for the week. I have plenty of items in my fridge and pantry so I can put off going to the market until Monday. Food is very expensive in Southern California.
Love your channel so much!! I predict that within the next year, you'll be well over 300K subs!!
Wanted to say a quick thank you for your videos! I'm recently married and my husband and I are looking for ways to save money as we grow our household and save for a home. I have been watching your videos, from crockpot recipes to money saving tips, for the last few months and really appreciate them! I'm lactose intolerant and most of the recipes you post have lots of dairy in them - If you're looking for new video suggestions, I'd really appreciate some that are lighter on the dairy side. :) Thanks!
The key to us using what's leftover in fridge or pantry is clear containers and zones
I love cooking pork loin in our crockpot for shredded pork, we do it often. 😊
Mindy! Middle part looks so good on you!
One of my favorite appetizers to make is chicken and waffle dippers! Cut frozen waffles into 1/4s (or if you can still find the small pull apart ones!) then layer them on toothpicks with a chicken nugget in the middle! Put out various honey/syrup options. It’s so fun and always surprises people!
Mom always called it grab n grunt night. Lol! 😂❤
Dominion! And we LOVE that game!!
DOMINION! 😊We are a huge board game family and dominion is a great one. We have recently been on a Seven Wonders kick. I think your family would like that one.😉 I am right there with you cutting open containers of face cleaner, moisturizer, toothpaste, etc. to get the rest out! I kept my bath and Bodyworks foam soap pumps and I refill them with half generic antibacterial soap and half water. My huge refillable bottle lasted almost 2 years! We have two bathrooms and a family of five!
Thanks for the rec! I’m always looking for new games for the fam. 😊
We do this too! We call it survivor night….fend for yourself 😂
I call it "left over night". Eat what we have left over and tomorrow is a new meal plan. Great video. Thanks
My daughters and I love Dominion!
Hi, I’m new here and just wanted to let you know that I am enjoying watching your channel, and have been watching for hours. I’m here over from Mandy in the Making. So glad to find you! 😊
I have glass container storage that go from freezer to oven. I also use them for leftovers for the fridge. I have reusable storage bags that can go in the freezer or fridge as well. Our living room couch and wing back chairs are Canadian built and are 26 yrs old. We always had a family room so our kids could be a little rougher on that furniture and have snacks etc in that room. It meant our living room furniture didn't take a beating from our 4 kids lol. The pattern is certainly outdated but we put fitted slipcovers on them and voila u have an updated set. I agree good quality shoes and mattresses are key. Actually cooking the pork loin in the IP and then making a mushroom gravy with mashed potatoes and a vegetable of ur choice turns out to be a lovely dinner. We would slice the pork loin into 1/2 inch slices and pour gravy over the top.
Awesome! I agree on making investments where it matters and using items to their conclusion. I even re-purpose single socks… perfect dust rags!
We do leftovers that way too, everyone just takes a bit of this/that and we each have enough for a meal! 😊
My husband and I love Dominion! :)
My family loves playing Dominion!
I love boneless pork loin. I buy 1-2 when they go on sale. I slice off a few pieces for pork chops. I leave part in a big chunk to make pulled pork. If I need ground meat, I'll run a whole loin through the meat grinder. It makes the best ground meat.
The latest thing I've used pork loin for was chicken fried pork. I pounded the loin chops out and made them up just like I would cubed steak. So good. This will be our go to for chicken fried meat.
I have been cutting my tubes of hand cream, makeup, etc, for years , (all started when my hands couldn’t squeeze out the rest) then I just push all the product to one side and take the other side pinch it and slide into the other end. Love your channel. Carpal tunnel hands in Cleveland.
I have the instapot dragon steam diverter and it is so funny. My husband doesn't like me spending lots of money on kitchen stuff cause I have a ton 😅 but I showed it to him and he was like buy it and buy it now ! 😂
Great ideas. On the foundation tube, I just cut the end off like you did and the slide it back over the open end...no need for a different container. There's always ton left in there.
We love games but that is one we don’t have. Looks like a family favorite. Great tips to be frugal and not cheap. Totally cut the lotion like you your makeup. Today is pantry inventory day and finish the October meal plan. Maybe I will put in a few use it up meals to finish off some items that have been hanging around.
Do you have a “my family’s favorite fall comfort foods” pantry cleaning out style? I’d love to see that. I love watching your videos in fall when I’m stuck inside.
Oh my gosh! I do the exact same thing with my IT cosmetic foundation! Get the little spoons in the party section of dollar tree, works perfectly to get all of that product out.
I do the same. Use the same stuff and alot is always left in the tube.
Great tip, Krisi! Thanks!
i keep little containers of foundation trial that they give me at department store when i need to match to a different color, and use those to transfer the leftover foundation. if the foundation is in a glass bottle - i flip it upside down to gather everything in a cap to use it up
My Dad used to call leftovers "ptomaine" (a type of food poisoning) I honestly thought it was another word for "leftovers" 🤪🤣 (My Dad had a wonderful Irish sense of humor lol!) Ehem! I too save the cottage cheese/sour cream, etc containers so I don't have send my expensive glass containers & lids home with my son and daughter-in-law (they recycle them when they are finished with them). We both used to have grocery bags of 'tupperware' to return to each other and got tired of doing that!
Mindy, I make the BB pork loin Roast. I always have leftovers to create a new meal with. My favorite is rolling the mixture into taquito tortillas, oven baking and freezing them for another meal.
Taquitos?....it's a Mindy Mom thing.
Thanks for thd inspiration and idea
We call it a pick and mix dinner, once a week we will have what is left and come up with interesting combinations, often the most enjoyable and creative meals.
So true! Many new favorites have been discovered by my family when I do these pantry challenges! :)
I always use pork loin for shredding to make bbq. I cook in slow cooker
Hello from Norway. Love the videos.
I use that same foundation and it’s expensive, I will definitely be cutting mine open when that time comes.
DOMINION!!
Thanks for mentioning glass vs plastic containers. A lot of meals I take for lunch have a tomato base. That will ruin a plastic dish so I invested in glass ones for that and also a melamine plate just for work. Saves on paper plates
Dominion!!! Love that game!
yep!
Also just pay attention when you are "regular cooking" if you are building a casserole...swap out things in the recipe using things you need to finish off if your recipe calls for canned item and you have fresh, use up the fresh. And look for ways to accentuate with other dibs and dabs. For example if you have said casserole it may not call for bread crumbs on top. But if you have a heel of bread or handful of potato chips...clear them out. Its adding to the meal with something that you might just toss out.
I do the same things with those containers. Plus if I have two to three tablespoons of leftovers I just give it to the dogs. But now because of you I got creative and thought what else I could do with it. Well I thought of many snacks or lunches I could make. It will save on my grocery bill. Thanks.
Glad I can give some ideas, Kathy!
Thanks, cuz I needed a cost effective way to make Michael some snacks. We don’t eat lunch, but he likes to have a snack. So I’m very appreciative. 👍🏻
Being a family of vegetarians we do this often. A lot of times on the weekend we cook a bunch of things and anyone can grab things during the week from it. Just past few weeks fell into a rut that trying to pull myself back out of this week. I hit the one weeks being disabled myself that just didn't feel like much of doing anything and got a bunch of things that were just fast and quick. Know we all have weeks like that so not upset with myself but I only do it every once in awhile and then back on budget. Just hard those weeks with present prices but have been buying a lot of store brands to replace things that normally bought when can. Though I did invest in a collection of glass containers last Christmas from Aldi's since my son and husband said with the non-see thru bowls they don't always realize what's in the fridge. Though lids from the Aldi's one already splitting on some of the bowls but still using for now. We make a massive pot of beans and put them in the fridge and other items so everyone who seems this year since my son graduated eating at different times and each person can go in the fridge and grab what they desire.
I cut pork loin in to pork chops. Season with seasoned salt & granulated garlic. 🎶So good! So good! So good! So good!🎶
Try loin pork, turkey. Put on grill and add barbeque sauce. Very tasty 😋
Our household is 3 adults, one of whom is a busy college student who isn't home for dinner every night. Most dinners are sized to feed four. Even with dipping into leftovers for some of our lunches, we still end up with a leftovers night nearly every week. As for the little odds and ends, or leftovers that seem to be going ignored, creating a leftover-based soup can help get things eaten before they run out of time.
I needed this video ❤ thanks for showing me how to make delicious foods with what I have… for now. Although I’d love to go on a huge grocery haul, the freezer is even almost empty 😅 you’re helping though, thank you.
Kids make this much harder. They love the things I’ve tried to create from you, sometimes even having to skip a couple or one ingredient 🎉
Thanks, Shelby, I’m glad I can be helpful!
Southern frugal momma is a great RUclipsr that does 5$ feed your family for a day. Some great information when times are hard and pantry is slim Pickens. Hope this helps God bless.
Those cinnamon rolls are amazing! I saw her video as well. I think it takes time to learn that quality is frugality. How many cheap pans do you have to buy before learning that sometimes you do get what you pay for. (That being said, I know what the good cookware is now and buy it from estate sales for way cheaper, but that's a different topic). Frugality has to be measured on a continuum. There's cheap cheap, cheap frugal, and dam it I ate out again! Anything you make at home is still cheaper than going out. Be smart frugal. Buy the foods you like and can make good meals from. Save going out to eat for special occasions if you are struggling. I guarantee you will get more satisfaction with a cart of food for $35 than 3 burgers and fries and nothing to cook tomorrow. Good video! Thanks
Called "Bits and bats" when I was growing up!!😆
cube and marinate for grilling shiskabobs
Thanks for the idea to turn a pork tenderloin into shredded pork. I love a good pork tenderloin, but like you, my YAs aren't fans, and don't eat it very well. Def trying this! My YA's (in college) aren't really picky eaters, but they are independent, with cars and their own money. I've found that if I tell them, "We're having L.O. for dinner" they stop and get McDs on the way home instead. So, when they ask if I'm cooking dinner, I say, "Yes," then pull out all the leftovers, possibly 'reconfigure' some into nachos/quesadillas, etc., and put it all out buffet style. They never complain and always seem happy as pie with a plate full of your-choice foods. It's all in the presentation, lol.
We call leftover night all you can eat buffet night lol 😂 where else can you have a quesadilla, a cup of jello and a side of toast for dinner? My kids like that when they see everything laid out on the counter, they can put together whatever they want for dinner!
Great video! This is me! I have cut open lotion bottles to get many more applications left in the plastic bottle that would KILL me to throw away! I scrape the lotion out into a plasticware container that I then keep in the bathroom. When I get to the end of a dish soap bottle, rather than toss it into recycling immediately, I toss it into the kitchen sink for the next time I do dishes. I add hot water, shake and get one more sinkfull of soap out of the bottle. I have cut open toothpaste tubes. You'd be amazed at how much is left.😆 I was taught by frugal parents and a very frugal grandmother who lived through The Great Depression. These are timeless tips: Do not waste. Do not fill landfills with product that can still be used and used up.
We have pork strips that we cook like a roast, put in potatoes and carrots with it. Next best thing to beef roast. Same texture.
We call it "clean the fridge" dinner!
Wow I am shocked at how much foundation you got out of that tube!!! Good job!!! I haven't wore makeup in 4 years and I have saved SO MUCH MONEY!!! But I understand why people use it. I was wearing it for the wrong reasons.
I don't always do it the same either, all the time. Two toddlers being picky here and there helps do that. And then the husband and I are watching what we eat.
Did you feel me channeling you last night? I was trying to think of something different, quick and easy to make for dinner using what I had on hand. I took out a package of frozen tortellini (from your suggestion and something I have never used), made some frozen broccoli and a jar of Alfredo sauce-snap, what a delicious dinner!
Love that! Great job!
Dominion!
