My husband is a hunter and we have been fortunate enough the past few years he has been able to get a moose , we get roasts, steaks mostly, with the scrap we get burger made , for the deer he harvest we get sausage ,pepperoni and I get some small roasts I use for cutlets . I treat it as beef just need to add some fat sometime as it’s so lean .

Yes, everyone should reduce food waste at home, however, those figures cited at the beginning of the video are primarily due to waste on behalf of large corporations (grocery stores and restaurants). They are the ones who need to change their practices as they have the most detrimental impacts. These are systemic problems that need to be dealt with systemically, rather than casting the blame on individual households and making you or me shoulder the blame and responsibility.

When I worked at Starbucks as a kid, we’d dump out coffee every 30 minutes to make fresh drip coffee and we weren’t allowed to take home the left over bakery items. We threw away so many baked goods! I started stealing it and donating it though. It was too much for me!

This morning I took half of it and some simple syrup and whizzed it up in my Vitamix it was so good , the other 1/2 of the watermelon I put a can of sweetened condensed milk and the watermelon , whizzed it up and it is so good , I put it in a Tupperware container with plastic wrap on top and it stays scoopable , I will be doing this with peaches, cherries and pineapple and coconut. Another awesome video. Trying to eat through our groceries has really helped me to stop buying food that we don't love. It should be obvious but I found myself randomly buying things that I thought we "should eat" and sure enough those turned into obligation meals that we resent eating before I go to the store. These challenges definitely make me a more mindful shopper.

I even had many times when their friends would eat with us too. ☺☺☺ it was a hard adjustment because I just cooked what was needed without a recipe. Made it difficult to pare down. 🤔🤔😁😁

Mindy you really inspire me to cook at home. For almost 5 years I didn’t cook at home and the pounds were packing on and I was getting tired of choosing what to eat out. In my mind I knew what we were eating wasn’t healthy because I had no idea what was in the food. I’ve done a complete 180 and I cook most nights. It’s really changed how I think of our food and what we eat. I know it’s save us A LOT of money too. Thanks to your dedication and great ad lib recipes I use what I have and have noticed that our waste has definitely decreased significantly.

My mom invented what she called "Freeze buster night" It is basically where she made everything left in the freezer at the end of the month and we buffet style made our plates. We would have three pizza bites, one hot pocket, and a corn all on one plate. It was our favorite night for dinner. We thought it was so cool. I do it now with my kids and my sister as well. Great way to get rid of frozen foods that aren't enough for everyone to get even portions of and clean out supply taking up room. My mom had 6 kids to feed and a small food budget nothing went to waste. Very similar to your pantry one, you brought back memory's.

I think part of the issue of food waste comes from prepping and doing it the wrong way. When one has a ton of items that they can't keep track of, there will be food waste. I think another issue is the need some have of shipping an seeing a full fridge of food. It could come from not having enough as a child or anxiety. I see some other vloggers here on RUclips who have food stuffed all over their fridge with constant grocery hauls. No way is all that food being used. Drives me bonkers.
I have always meal planned and the following weeks meal plan uses up any odds and ends of produce so it isn't wasted.
We also do YOYO night the day before I grocery shop and that is when left overs or produce is eaten up.
And I save onion, garlic, carrot, potato, celery, and leek scraps to make stock and then those used items go into a city composting bin.

Nothing says you have to prepare a different meal every day of the week. We repeat meals often. In fact we have Taco Tuesday, Meatloaf Wednesday, Sandwich Saturday. It keeps me from having to think of new things to cook all the time. I have 4 other days of the week to make something different but its one of my 50 recipe list I go to. I have a backstock of rice, spaghetti noodles, potatoes and other pasta. I rarely have a small amount of anything because I have a lot of it and I replenish regularly. We eat these foods often enough that I keep a lot of it on hand. I just really can't imagine only having a small amount of rice, or most anything really. If i only have a cup of rice, well, I can't remember when that was.

I think in some states there are very specific rules about that, but not sure. I need to read up on that.

So glad we don’t waste much at all. We repurpose leftovers, freeze things that are about to go bad etc….Don’t get me wrong, we do waste sometimes, happens to all of us. But I get so irritated when we do ☹️

    Hi from England 🙂
I love the pie you made but being English I have no clue what cool whip is 😬 could someone explain what this is so I could possibly figure out a British alternative 😊

The U.S. stores need to reduce and sell items that will go to waste. European countries have a constant supply of low priced day old or expiring items. It really helps people who are in a very tight food budget. I think it's sickening that stores would rather dispose of food than sell it at a deep discount. They're afraid they'll miss a penny. Fresh foods are also less expensive overseas. Why is that when they import alot of foods? Shouldn't our food, grown in the U.S. be even less expensive? Corporations only care about higher profits.

I am guessing that very little of that 1.4 billion tons is wasted in The Third World. Safe to say that almost all of it is wasted in The First World. Embarrassingly, I do my bit to add to the 1.4 billion tons, though trying more and more to waste less and less.
    Thank you for the video!
