100% agree that I wish not everything for children had to be such a production. It’s no wonder parents are always stressed and broke. 😂 I feel like we can celebrate and make events fun without themes and being pressured to buy junk we don’t need or will never use again.
Amen! I was afraid I got that point across poorly, but I was just trying to say that making everything “special” actually makes nothing seem special, ya know? 🤷♀️
I’m reminded of when my daughter tried cheerleading. She only did it for one year in 3rd grade. The end of the season banquet was over 4 hours long, and there was no notice that it would be so long because the invite only said when it would start and not when it would end. The reason the banquet was so long was that there were over 100 cheerleaders and football players in grades 3-8 and when they handed out all the kids’ trophies, they didn’t just say the kid’s name, they had to say something specific about each kid. It sort of felt like forced positivity because it was obvious they had to dig deep to come up with something for many of the kids. In my head I imagined the person giving out trophies saying, “Brian Jones. Brian, come up here. Yeah… so for the first time in 3 years Brian has been playing peewee football, Brian has avoided getting a concussion this year. Yay Brian.” In case I wasn’t clear, that did not actually happen, but it seemed that way😅. I too fear I come across as negative but in reality, the kids who aren’t the star players may actually prefer being under the radar. Forced positivity almost draws more negative attention, if that makes sense.
I agree. I have been the mother of young children for 30 years and hate holidays because of all the stress of making things “special”. I advise all new parents to start traditions that don’t cost money or extra planning for holidays.
@@teresanorris4769 that's exactly how we feel, the only event we celebrate is Lords Evening Meal which was last night on Nisan 14. But we enjoy and host gatherings all the time with no specific pagan holidays forced on us. 😎
I agree with you. I really miss the 80’s and 90’s, it was much easier when I was growing up. It is getting toward the end of the school year and I am burned out with all the performances, activities, etc. it is all too much, especially when you are a working mom who also manages the house, cooking, cleaning, chauffeuring, shopping, etc
Amen! I agree. Home schooler to two young men, single mom, full time worker, here. Everything is such a production. I’ve actually started slowing down, on purpose, to make life more comfortable, for me.
Yes! That someone in the trenches with me feeling is so helpful. I listen to you and others when I clean the kitchen and clean the house. Helps me to body double and not feel so alone in what feels like endless tasks.
I LOVED this video!!! Showing us that your everyday life is real, and that sometimes having little to no excitement in participating in your children's activities is real. We always put our best self out there for others to see and that's just not how every moment of real life is. Wish you'd been around when my adult boys were growing up...I felt like such a failure as a mom, wife, teacher, and even as a Christian because I wasn't as perfect as I saw everyone else. Mindy, thanks for being real, being encouraging, and telling it like it is!!
Thank you Mindy! Kind. Positive. Helpful. Useful! Yes- I watch your channel because I find all of these things. Sometimes “real life “ is definitely not glamorous or exciting- for me the excitement comes when I realize that I have done the best I can for those who rely on me and I’ve managed to do this without too much drama and no “emergencies “ 😊 I find it hard to silence my phone sometimes- I have always had a policy that if you need me, my phone is always on. I’ve realized that unless I take time to recharge my batteries, I am a lot less helpful. I appreciate the honest way you share your experiences with us and I hope you have a wonderful Holy Week. 🌻🙏
I totally GET THIS on a different level. We are empty nesters (for a really long time now.) Somehow my friends are beginning to sound like they are my mother. Asking all of the questions: asking Why, What are you thinking, Why were you up so late last night, what time did you go to bed last night, how much did that new dishwasher cost…… and sooooo on…. I have finally put my foot down gently. I need some ME time to read uninterrupted, watch YT, play a game on my iPad, plant seeds for my garden, research things, and so forth. I personally feel that ME time is important for my mental health; and it is not selfish at all of me to take time for myself. I cannot be everything to everyone. Call me crazy but my mental health comes first! Super video ❤ Thank you for sharing 🌷🌼🌸🌻🌟 Edited to say: I cannot fix everyone’s problems. I would love to, but I can’t. I cannot sort out everyone’s issues. Again…. I would love to, but I can’t. 🌸🌼🌷🪷
As a parent of 4 children ranging from 15 to 30 now, with one very special needs daughter and working 12 hr night shifts as a police/fire dispatcher..I appreciate the positivity of your channel. I only have 2 at home now along with a retired husband and my life is still crazy. Your vlogs and videos give me a sense of peace, calm and great quick dinner and other tips to help me get through one day at a time. Thank-you.
Thank you for this video! It was very refreshing, and I appreciate how transparent you are. I would like to secondly, your advice to everyone about putting things down/letting things go… I am in a different season of life than you, but not too long ago. I had three kids and my husband and I both worked. I am now unable to continue working, I had to retire seven years ago, and stopped teaching. It was not my choice but I was trying to do way too much. Blessings to you and your family.
Bravo! I applaud you for being brave enough to speak out against everything being a production. As a retired elementary teacher, I often wondered what my kids would have to look forward to when they had already had a fifth grade dance, whatever grade graduation, etc. We have a whole generation of children who have been entertained and kept busy with extra-curricular activities. They need down time as well. Thank you for sharing your latest reads. Since childhood, I’ve loved to read and have made it a goal this year to put down my iPad in the evenings and read instead of mindlessly scrolling for hours. Happy Easter to you and your family! (Church organist here, so I’ll be at church all week, too. 😊)
Amen to pulling back on all the special events. I’m past that stage of life, but I see the stress it causes. I, also, worry that children will expect every day to be special when they become adults. Some days are just ordinary and we need to learn to find the blessings in that.
You are sooo right about making everything a major production! Our kids have huge expectations now for every little thing! It's just too much! Just wait till your kids get married! Brace yourself!
Oh we’ve already had conversations about this very thing! Since my husband was in campus ministry for 15 years, he has officiated his fair share of weddings, including 3 of my siblings and 1 neice! We’ve already told our girls not to expect what they are seeing. 😂
Kinder graduation here tomorrow. Everyone had to buy a Dr. Seuss shirt, boys a hat, girls tights, bow, and tutu. I can’t imagine what it’s like for parents that have lots of kids!
Yes to all of this! At my kids old school it was constantly a dress up for XYZ day and it was just so stressful trying to keep up with it all. I'm so glad no longer have to do that since homeschooling
I SO appreciate your vlog style videos! I feel like I just spent time with a good friend chatting about life! Thank you! Happy Easter to you and your family.💐✝️
Oh my! I totally agree with your informative rant, been there and thank God done and over with that. I only had one and she is now 31. It always seemed like there was something. God bless you, one was hard enough with the activities and celebrations that come with it. Thank you I enjoy your channel.
Trying to not be on my phone as much and I had already decided after watching your video, I was putting it up for the day (besides phone calls). Thanks for being real and for the encouragement! HAPPY EASTER!
Love your message about shutting it down in the evening! I am a teacher and because of email, I am expected to respond to people quickly, which isn't healthy or reasonable!
Mindy this was 😂a truly great video. Down to earth, your sense of humor truly funny🎉. I love your food/cooking videos, but this was a delightful change. THANKS ❤
I really enjoyed this video. Thank you Mindy for sharing your thoughts. It gave me a lot of comfort. I've also just borrowed the ebook of The Anatomist's Wife which sounds great (although I'm hoping I'm good with the gore!) I hope you have a lovely Easter.
I've watched your videos for a couple of years now, but on the TV where the whole family watches, so I'm just now subscribing and coming to say hi! This video spoke to me all the way through it, so I wanted to thank you for it! 1. Yes! Enough of overdoing activities and theme days and so much extra! All three of my kids are neurodivergent (ADHD and autism), and they are not really fans of straying from routine. They can fit a recurring activity (band, a sport, art classes, etc) into their routine, but they don't like all the extras for that. A banquet, or solo performance would just set them off. 2. Love your book recommendations. I've already read and love some, and I've added some others to my reading list. 3. Yes! Removing myself from social media more often, and being more physically present has been wonderful for my family, and even for my own well-being. I'm less stressed, and love the new experiences we all have time for now.
I love your channel so much. You were the first person I started following on utube. Seriously. I found other great people thru you, like christine at Frugal fit mom, but, I never miss a video you put out. My kids are grown now, but, your content still helps me. I feel like your message and content work for everyone. You do such a great job. Happy Easter to you and your family.
Mindy thank you for your time! I truly enjoy your videos bc of exactly what you described seeing another mom doing real life things like me with honesty, kindness, and positivity! Hope you avoided a family bug!
I loved this video so much! You are such a joyful person and it was helpful to see a day-to-day video of your life. I love your cooking videos as well, but this was a lot of fun to see you in a different way! thank you!
I'm loving this type of video/vlog! I get tips from every video you put out, but throwing in a vlog type video has been super informative and entertaining.
2nd grade teacher here...completely agree with you on the "special" events that happen every other week and I've spoken up about all these "dress up days." What are these kids going to do when they grow up and the world doesn't cater to them?
I love when you do vlogs! Also, thanks for the reminder to step away from work. I work from home and I am my own boss, so it's really easy to fall into the habit of never really being off work. I have found sometimes I only take 1 or 2 full days off a month bc I might do an hour on Saturday and then just an hour on Sunday. Next thing you know, you've worked, in some capacity, 21 days in a row. I'm making a conscious effort to take 2 full days off a week!
Oh my goodness Mindy. I hope I can put my thoughts into words adequately. Vlogs are not my favorite videos because of the things you touched on. Having that said, this vlog had so much goodness to it, I found myself nodding my head in agreement into every point you made. So realistic, so relatable, it really did feel like a connection. Thank you for making intentional and useful videos without all the production. Buona Pasqua!
18:12 Your vlog is super helpful! Your comment about step goals and changing to a weekly goal is really inspiring to me because I also get flustered by my perfectionism with daily step goals.
Hi Mindy. I enjoy your videos. After raising 4 children I feel like you do. I like to power off emails etc after dinner. I enjoy the content on your channel so much…thank you! Happy Easter💐
I love your channel! This isn’t your usual content but I still really enjoyed watching it and found it very encouraging as a new mom! Thank you for sharing!
My hubby and I have also started to be more intentional with our time in the evenings and weekends. It's made a huge difference! We feel more connected and less rushed. It's been lovely!
Mindy, you look so good in those glasses! I have to say, you are one of the people that I look forward to meeting in heaven someday. Thank you for sharing uplifting, real life videos.
Not to mention how hard it is to find something black in April. My daughter had a “wax museum” today and had to dress as a person from history. I told her that I was NOT buying a costume. She can wear what we have available unless her teacher wants to volunteer to buy costumes for the class.
thank you for this video, I agree with all that you have said about taking time for family and less screen time. Thank you for pointing it out and letting us know how it effects you. Take care
What are you making for Easter Sunday? Love ur book recommendations! I love your real life solutions to actual bumps in the road everyone deals with, but doesn't talk about. God bless you all!
I’ll be honest, I’m making some green beans, potatoes, and rolls, and we are just picking up some fried chicken! It’s a busy week for us, culminating in 3 huge Easter services Sunday morning, so I know I’ll be zapped and just wanna relax. :)
I say it all the time! While the internet is such a useful tool, it also keeps many in bondage. Like you said, work matters of yesteryear were handled in the work place. Email, Google meets, and such have caused many people to become slaves to their jobs. It’s so tragic.
My kids are grown and out of the house but I agree with what you are saying. If everything is special, then nothing is special. Thanks for the book recs - I have already downloaded "The Anatomist's Wife" from Hoopla from the library. I love those kind of books. I have just read several similar books by Darcie Wilde with the main character a "useful woman" named Roselind Thorne. Also, Clara McKenna books. Have a very Happy Easter!
Oh Mindy, I love your content so much. So real! You mentioned about finding it hard to get into a book. I have a rule for myself; I read 40 pages and if I am not gripped I give it a miss. I’m also doing 18:6 intermittent fasting and I find it helps enormously with cravings. I don’t make it everyday of course 😂❤😊
You have become one of my favorite RUclipsrs. I love your content, your realness, and your consistency. Also, thanks for the book recommendations. My son and I are reading, "I Don't Have Enough Faith to be an Atheist" for his Apologetics class. I am looking forward to reading "Another Gospel" and "Live Your Truth and Other Lies". Wishing you and your family a Happy Easter from Louisville, KY.
🎉 YAY MINDY!¡!! I am so with you and the everything being a big deal thing! And don't get me started on the everyone gets a danged trophy! Thank you for keeping it real! I LOVED the windy hair shot!😅❤😅
I agree about making everything for kids a production. I often wonder if it’s more about the competition among the adults (ie women) organizing them rather than the kids. Each event having to outdo the previous event for the benefit of social media postings and the organizers’ personal “validation.”
I really enjoyed this video! I love your budget & cooking but also liked this as well! I am a reader and the Social media thing is definitely something I’m trying to work on! Thank you for your content!
Lots of good and interesting thoughts here. I share your interest in budget cooking but otherwise our lives are nothing alike. I don't have kids/grandkids and I'm not a believer. I'm not even American. But that's why I like to tune in and see what you're up to. Because you ARE different from me. As for your thoughts on less screen time, it's such a choice. How many of us are really forced to engage almost 24/7? Aren't those who do it doing it to themselves? All I can tell you is I need my down time to stay sane. That's how I cope with everything else. So I agree that putting some boundaries on usage is helpful.
I love that you're reading Alyssa Childers!! Her RUclips channel is great and so is John Coopers (Cooperstuff) from Skillet! They're from my era of CCM and to see them standing strong, dedicated to apologetics and theology is awesome!
You ARE a bright positive spot on the internet where I find comradery in everyday life. :) I'm reading "How to Break Up With Your Phone" by Catherine Price and so far it's eye-opening! Definitely living with intention these days. Thank you for your authenticity. I always love your content!
Totally agree on all the school functions and a particular outfit or color. We live 30 miles from a town of 17,000 people and 2.5 hours away from a big city. So unless I know months in advance so we can go shopping in the city or we are lucky enough to find something at Wal-mart or Maurices, we aren't can't get it.
Love your videos And enjoyed the recommendations on books and downtime. I am no longer dealing with children and activities and running them hither and yawn but I still love your cooking tips even though our household is much smaller now. Please continue to provide us tips and tricks as I love watching your videos regardless of topic. It's so nice to see somebody who's Shows how it really is when life is busy and there are many tasks related to getting kids to and from activities and trying to feed them nutritious food. Bravo!
I so love your channel, and really enjoy these 'day in the really real life' vids!!! You and your hubs are adorbs, would love to see more 'date night in the kitchen' vids - he's so darn sweet, and seeing you two interact gives me hope for happily after!! I love YA novels too!! Hunger Games is one of my all-time favorite books, and I so appreciated hearing how that and the Percy Jackson novels turned your daughter into a reader!!!! It gives me a serious sad to see that so many people have gotten away from reading, and of course with all the social media/computer world, it's a miracle anyone under age 30 reads at all. And I've just gotta say, you've convinced me that if I had glasses and dimples, I'd be SO way cuter without makeup!! ♥😍😎
Thanks for sharing your face products and the books you have read. In highschool I became a Victoria Holt fan and have since always been on the lookout for books in that time period. Agree about your comments about kids and such. Really enjoy your videos.
Ugh… I agree. I don’t sit and watch the news every day.. people cannot believe it.. I say listen it’s something that causes anxiety etc… if there is something God ants me to know He will make it happen. And He does.. and I can look into that one thing and get the facts and then move on.. We need way more family time ❤
Something you can talk about with your kids is approaching and appreciating a movie or TV series that's based on a book and the book itself as kind of separate entities, and not necessarily judging a cinematic work based strictly on how true it is to the book. Discuss how the same story is presented in two vastly different mediums and the benefits and challenges of each. One thing that I really like about the era of TV and film that we're living in now is the number of excellent screen adaptations and movie re-makes that expand on the source material and add or change the characters or setting or time period in ways that create more complexity and interest.♥
I agree that over celebrating takes away a child’s sense of confidence and achievement when they step out of the ordinary. And please….no more red shirt, earth colors, green sock days! I refuse to spend money on a’wear once’ item.

2nd grade teacher here...completely agree with you on the "special" events that happen every other week and I've spoken up about all these "dress up days." What are these kids going to do when they grow up and the world doesn't cater to them?
Thank you! That’s it summed up! Just thank you!
I adore you & your family. Thank you for ALL you do❤️
I love when you do vlogs!
I love fasting!! So glad it is a part of your life. It has made such a positive impact on my life. I want it for everyone.
I love your channel! This isn’t your usual content but I still really enjoyed watching it and found it very encouraging as a new mom! Thank you for sharing!
Always enjoy watching your videos. Wishing you and your family a Blessed Easter Season.
Thanks so much! :)
Love the book recommendations. Thank you for being helpful, kind and realistic. It makes you so relatable.
I totally agree about way too many themed weeks!! It’s too much and nothing is special when everything everyday everyone is special.
Not to mention how hard it is to find something black in April. My daughter had a “wax museum” today and had to dress as a person from history. I told her that I was NOT buying a costume. She can wear what we have available unless her teacher wants to volunteer to buy costumes for the class.
100 percent agree with your view on everyday moms and life in general!
thank you for this video, I agree with all that you have said about taking time for family and less screen time.
Love the vlog style content! I love learning from you!
Thank you so much!
You do a great job with your videos! Thank you❤
Thanks so much!
Love the rethinking of your step goal. That is a better way to think about it. I may start doing that too! Thank you!
Hope your kiddo feels better! I just wanted to pop in here and tell you, what a beautiful church!
Thanks for keeping it real! I loves this video
Great advice!! I get panicky if it takes more than a few seconds to get on line!! ❤❤❤
I feel you about the wind. I’m in the Texas panhandle and yesterday our sustained winds were 32mph with gusts to 63mph.
🎉 YAY MINDY!¡!! I am so with you and the everything being a big deal thing! And don't get me started on the everyone gets a danged trophy! Thank you for keeping it real! I LOVED the windy hair shot!😅❤😅
Mindy and family have a great week have fun thanks from Oklahoma
Soooo agree...we are doing the same. For Lent we gave RUclips and facebook.
I love these style videos from you!!❤
I agree about making everything for kids a production.
Thanks for,being real, I appreciate that 🥰
a weekly step goal is so smart!!!
Great video, loved it! Got 2 book ideas. Thanks for making this one and Happy Easter He has Risen!
He is risen indeed!
Same! Just started IF again. Totally controls all the unnecessary munching!!
Thanks for this vlog today - blessings on your week!
Great video. We are all on overload with the social media, TV whatever. Thank you.
I love this video. Thank you for being honest and real? So happy I found your channel.
Bravo!
Thank you so much!
I like you! Thank you for doing this video and for the "solidarity" !
I guess God is telling me to show down. You're the second video I've seen today that has said the same thing. Thanks for all you do for us!
I watch most of your videos, but I absolutely love when you vlog. Thank you.
Greetings from Germany.
Gonna sign off now 😀
Ugh… I agree.
Good point!
I agree that over celebrating takes away a child’s sense of confidence and achievement when they step out of the ordinary. And please….no more red shirt, earth colors, green sock days! I refuse to spend money on a’wear once’ item.
