If you know me, you know I like my reverb soaking wet. And If you've heard me talk about my favorite reverbs you have absolutely heard me talk about surfy bear. Well they've found a way to make their reverb wetter than ever with a custom pan from Accutronics built to more closely reproduce the drip and short tail found in vintage gibbs pans that came with Fender outboard 6g15 reverb units.

The man really said "I made this channel because so many channels had no drip"
You should do a RUclips shorts series called "Does It Drip?"
That's essentially every video....
My pecker would make an appearance on that list. Gosh darned clap.
For some reason I can never remember the name "60 cycle hum" so I always just search for "drip reverb guy" in youtube and it finds your channel
@@TheGreatKrystoff I should start using “drip reverb guy” as a keyword lol
@@60CycleHumcast
You need to up your clothing game Ryan so your Drip matches your (guitar) DRIP when you do your videos!🤪🏄🏄🏄😎👍✨
@@gringogreen4719 I need a clothing sponsor or something
@@60CycleHumcast
That or a Sugar Daddy who wants to dress you up!😳🤔🤣🤣🤣
Next time you are at a Tiki Festival like the one with the Suffragettes look around at vendors to see if you could get/do a sponsorship with them? It's a win/win so maybe you don't charge a demo rate but you get free shirts instead or you could do a demo video (with a rate) for wearing outfits at the beach for your time and effort?
I mainly think shirts would be winner since you are sitting down for a demo. Beach videos could be shirts and trunks or pants, or a suit (old school style) with you jamming it up in front of the ocean. You live the Surf Dream essentially by living in San Diego, so you might as well use that to your advantage. I know that some of the shirts like the Earthquaker Devices shirt you wear was probably given to you by them, so just up your clothing game with either manufactures or retail vendors.
The worse thing they could say is "No " That would be silly as marketing for the price of a few shirts is extremely cost effective on both sides. You get a better wardrobe and they probably sell a few dozen to hundreds more clothes. 🤔
Drippy reverb guy.
Hallelujah - you've about covered every conceivable and up-to-date aspect of _SURF_ 'drip'! We love it, and you!!
Now if I may make a suggestion: *_Bring on the SPY THEMES & SPAGHETTI WESTERNS!!_*
-Dip- 'drip' into a broader milieu - there's still the other two food-groups of _"The Three S's"_ that were oh-so pertinent to the '60s and beyond!
(with a slight if tangential nod to Angelo Badalamenti; that dude could _mood)_
@14:10 holy F this is beyond drippy; It doesn't drip so much as go 'SPLAT!' with a hint of ghostly tail following said Splat! 🤣
I totally agree about playing style being important and surf is such a niche! That’s why I love your channel and reviews. Really convinced me to get a surfy bear compact and a Squier CV jaguar. I’m sure the bigger tanks and the higher end Jaguars get that extra few % of drippy goodness but I’m happy (for now lol)
That is one of the funniest things I've ever heard...nobody would play a palm mute in a reverb demo, and so here we are today, X years later.
Two Princetons theme. Always a treat! I have the large black SB, but that 3.0 sounds awesome.
So happy you made a video on this 🙌
Dang.......... this is the best tone you've ever had. I wish you would use this setup in your band. Just you noodling around to the Bass VI backing track sounds great....... Thank you Surfy Industries.
This video talks about pans more than a French kitchen cooking tutorial
I was just watching this pedal on thomann and was about to watch demos before something came up. And now the best gear reviewer on youtube uploads a review! Thanks Ryan!
One of the one of the best things I ever bought.
Just got my Fender Player II Jag, and I love it. And thanks to your video about modding your Jag II, I'm going to update my Aquatone Blue Jag II with a red tortoise shell pickguard and some Rockrabbit control plates. Thanks, Ryan!
@@goosegaskins that will be pretty!
@@60CycleHumcast It's my homage to legendary surf guitarist Kurt Cobain and his blue Mustang!
your reverb videos are top notch!
oh man that kit in a toolbox is super cool!
This is a great video. So cool to see you in your element.
That is a gorgeous Jaguar.
This week I got a Surfy Industries Blossom Point.... so nice. It sits well on my Surfybear metal, next to my Surfytrem.
Thanks I learned a lot about reverbs and the elusive drip.
I have this Surfy Bear reverb unit and I own a Recovery Endless Summer V3 Spring Reverb Booster pedal. I feel it l is a very close second to this Surfy Bear unit for about $200 less. The Surfy Bear is a better, but the Endless Summer is an amazing alternative. You should seriously consider checking it out if you haven't already for the channel, it is totally worth it.
Ok, that's sic. Wish I still had a twin to put one of the new pans in.
It does indeed sound drippy!
Definitely a cool take on a Surf tank deal. I like it. My "Dick Dale in a box" is my Source Audio True Spring pedal and I also have an EHX Oceans 11 that CAN Surf but I usually use it on other sounds. 🏄😎👍✨
looks EXACTLY like a toolbox I made in Shop Class!!!!
This is class "A" entertainment for Beach bums with Guitars.BTW /try a 3 Spring unit. .put one in a Deluxe and it sounds massive and drippy too. 3 spring shorter unit.
I was waiting for this review xd!
The drippiest yet !!
JEEZ! That is a psycho amount of drip. Haha
Wow. 3 demos in 1 week. I thought ryan was burnt out
Two of them were filmed and edited last week. I took this week pretty easy.
I love how the reverb can push the amp into overdrive. really only a real spring can do that
That sounds amazing
Curious what sort of amp settings you run. Drip sounds great.
I run the princetons very flat and boring for demo purposes. Volume around 3, treble around 8 and bass at 6 If i remember correctly.
@@60CycleHumcast Thanks buddy!
Hello Ryan, Nice vidéo… again ! Thank you.
I’m sure that the Surfy Pan Extra is absolutly perfect with the Surfybear Metal, did you try ?
The new pan sounds amazing, but it seemed slightly less drippy during the shootout. Does turning the pans upside down affect the drip/trails (gravity pulling the springs toward the plate instead of away from it)? Also, the energy of the vibrating springs could be getting slightly diffused by not securing the pan. Or maybe I'm overthinking it 🤓 (I just woke up and my brain is still not entirely functioning)
I hope Surfy Industries does a fringe pedal called the Nasal Drip.
Thanks for the cool review+demo Ryan! Very nice, but that gadget costs more than my surfboard. Got to make it cheaper and slightly smaller !
@@MAX96MENDES how much did you pay for your surfboard?
@@60CycleHumcast 175,00 euros - slightly used but in very good condition :)
@@MAX96MENDES interesting where are you surfing and what is the board like? I haven’t bought a board in a long time because I got into making my own. Also 175 would be a steal for a very good spring reverb.
I love and need that Jaguar. 😂
Actually I really like that Harbor Freight box.
I

I want to hear the new pan in the Metal version to see if I can just upgrade the pan to the new one from the surfy pan.
You can
Do you have a preference between the 2 surfybear pedals?
I preffer the metal for modern convenience, I really like the compact too, its smaller and has a switch for a second setting but the shorter spring isn't quite the same sound. The Classic is great for people who want the most traditional set up.
There is a stereo Tubeworks rackmount spring reverb. I want that.
Hey Ryan: what volume do you typically run your Princeton at when the Surfy Bear is engaged? Thanks!
@@mastabad2 3-4 is my normal range for demos. I don’t push them to drive but there’s some compression around there.
@@60CycleHumcast Ok thanks. I also run my surfy bear metal through a Princeton and I don’t know if I’m hallucinating or what, but your demos always seem to feature significantly more drip than I’m able to get out of mine. I typically run volume around 3 so I’ll crank it a bit and see what happens.
For anyone who likes surfy drip and the Bass 6, check out The Man from Nowhere by Jet Harris
Thx for leading me into the world of Jet Harris.
@@Zocker_Dude no problem, I just discovered him the other day myself. Thanks to Danny Sapko here on RUclips
Hi Ryan, could you also try it on the bass IV please?
Check out The Man from Nowhere by Jet Harris, amazing drippy Bass 6 tone
I do a little bass VI jam at the end
Thank you so much.As a Bass player I always love it when you play the Vl.My first padle was a sonicake levitate and I saw here first..and I stuck here.thx for everything you doing for us.@@60CycleHumcast
In a Fender pickup shootout, I thought the Jaguar pickups actually sounded better than the Strat, Tele, or Jazzmaster… but ergonomically, I don’t like the shortscale and small body.
I wish Fender would make a “full”-size Jag.
Like a jazzmaster with Jaguar appointments?
@@60CycleHumcast Basically yeah. A JM body and scale with Jag pickups and switching.
i bet that wouldnt be too hard to put together
You could either commission a custom pickguard maker to make you a custom pickguard ($$$) or you could buy pickguard plastic material and make several versions of a Jazzmaster sized pickguard but with Jaguar pickup holes in it.
My two cents would really be a three Jaguar pickup version where the Bridge and Middle would be EXACTLY where the Jaguar pickups would be distance wise from the bridge and the Neck pickup would be at the end of where the Neck pickup would be on a Jazzmaster, that way you more than just two pickups and do on/off switches for each one.
Keep in mind that you are changing the scale length as well as the pickups this guitar will play like a Jazzmaster but it won't sound like a Jaguar or Jazzmaster compared to the other original guitars.
I have a Samick Malibu where I put a Filtertron, a SD Little 59, and a SD Quarter Pounder in the pickup spots. I have a master volume and master tone and the middle spot is a coil split for the Little 59. What is interesting is that the pickups sound a bit the same with the ability to hear the small differences that make each pickup unique. So it wasn't the Night/Day clash that I thought it would be. They all play well with each other even though they use different magnet types and have very different outputs. The only "Strat" tone to come out of it is the Little 59 split, otherwise it sounds fuller and warmer than a typical Strat and no real glassiness to the tone (which is what I wanted). That said, FEEL WISE since you still have a 25.5 scale length and a Strat-ish shape (the Malibu is a shrunk down Strat with 3x3 headstock BEFORE the Silver Sky came along) it still plays close to a Strat but the guitar weighs more with heavier (by weight) pickups and a brass block on the Trem.
I mention this because I suspect that will be the case with a Jazzmaster/Jaguar pickup hybrid. It's not really going to sound the same as either but definitely adjacent to both. Not a good or bad thing.
Andy also played a Vintage brand Surf guitar on his channel and you might check that out as it has Burns looking pickups in a Jazzmaster looking guitar at a reasonable price. Other guitar makers make various hybrids of Offsets with P-90, Strat triple single coil, and humbucker load outs in their versions of Offset surf guitars. Definitely worth checking out since many are affordable and excellent Mod platforms.
Hello have you ever did a comparison between the reg SB and the compact SB? Im in the market for either and any advice on pros/cons would be appriciated. Take care
Theres a spring shootout he did a few years back that compares the classic and the compact (and many others)
@@colinedmunds2238 cool ill look for it thx. You dont have any experience with them do you? any advice?
I like my reverb drippy
bruh
Honestly, you're a fucking genius Ryan, why the hell aren't they making this a pedal board? It's too huge, make it big enough to put pedals on!
the surfy bear metal can totally function as a pedalboard riser.
Confirmed. I have been using mine as a pedalboard since 2022 🤘🏼💀🤘🏼
Hook all the pans together.💦
I had the metal but I’m pretty sure it couldn’t take line level input. It distorted and didn’t like being in my amp’s effects loop with gain. I had to part with it. I think they’ve fixed that on this version too?
Traditionally reverb units go into the front end of an amp. Not the loop.
I wish I could use my Reverb in my amp. The noise gate prevents it. So, I do it end of my stereo chain post my amp.
I surprised you don't have a Two Princetons shirts on your TeeSpring.
ive been working on a fresh graphic for that. I feel sketchy just throwing photos of fender products on a shirt and selling it. Feels like I need to do an illustrative version.
What kind of Jaguar is that Ryan?
Player ii
I'm sorry for this, but especially with the Jaguar bridge pickup and the Surfy Pan Extra, the drip is very farty. In a good way, maybe.
Do you ever dream in drip?
True Test ?
Give it a slap or kick
You can get 10s with heavier bottoms
After several heavy Drip notes, it starts to kinda sound like one of those weird firecracker farts.....
How much sleep was lost?
This makes me want one more pedal
They look surfy board sized.
Drip it on us.
Not a spring reverb guy, I'm sure this thing was designed with specific tastes in mind of what constitutes as a good "drip" but I don't like how a 300 dollar box has no controls for attack that goes into it and that drip sound is too overbearing for the notes played, in my humble opinion.
It’s designed for a specific genre and playing style. So if you don’t get it I’m sure it’s sounds strange.
@@60CycleHumcast As suspected but as I said, that one circuit would improve that. But enough said. Cheerios.
Does it Dick Dale? YES IT DOES 🙂
