    Great review. A couple of things:
    1. The king of backpack-substitute hiking fanny packs is Mountainsmith. *Great* suspension system, for a start.
    2. You didn't talk about my absolute deal breaker. If you're someplace with pickpockets, the buckle placement is crucial. If it's centered (i.e. equal length straps), with the bag in front of you the buckle is out of your control; with the buckles in front, the bag itself is out of your control. That's why I'll only use bags with the buckle at the side (like the Vanquest) so I can have the bag and buckle both in front. That configuration also makes it easier to use as a sling.

    • @user-eg3fe1ky8h
      @user-eg3fe1ky8h 11 месяцев назад +2

      Agreed, how could you ignore Mountainsmith, who has been pushing these types of bags since the 70's. . . Also, Osprey makes nice packs of this type, including hydration packs. Chase is entertaining, but I don't find he is comprehensive. . . or fully informed. Makes me wonder how he selects items to review. . .

    • @BumblebeeElectron
      @BumblebeeElectron 11 месяцев назад +2

      @@user-eg3fe1ky8h I wrote that post because I thought viewers should know about Mountainsmith, but I get why Chase skipped over them. I think he wants to concentrate on products from smaller, or less-known, or more boutique, or more "artisanal" makers. Chase is knowledgeable, but there's a certain hipster ethos at work here.

    I wish there were more options like 17:56 that stay locked in without looking so beefy, slings just move around too much

    I don't see it reviewed often but the Janji Multipass Sling has been my favorite fanny pack/sling bag. It has a stabilizer strap if you are running/biking/playing soccer, and a unique system for larger items.

    So happy to see you! Which would you recommend as sling (not obnoxiously large)....interesting, no Bellroy? Nothing funky. Only wear black, minimal aesthetic, no dangling straps, no floppy, holds its shape. No big guys. Urban (older) gal. I own both Trakke bags. No more waxed bags. No loud. No bulky. What say you? Top 3 (even if not mentioned). Many thanks for your wisdom...

    Thank you for the review, lots of choices! This is post is about sharing information and might be out of the scope of your review. Putting into context I like Fanny packs, while large is good for hiking with a water bottle, smaller is better for day use. I purchase a water proof Fanny pack as I am around water allot, and wanted something small but able to keep keys and things safe just in case I feel in while water boarding.. I am using Aqua Quest dry bag Fanny pouch. Works great. Might be to small for many users but suits my purpose. Cheers from Vancouver Island Canada

    For flights with weight limit - I wonder if like a *Bellroy aling lite 7L* would go under the radar as for personal items, 🤔 so you could store some lenses like the Canon 24-70 2.8 just for the check in phase... Maybe the 7L is too big? Maybe you can't wear it as a fanny, only as a sling?

    I'd really like to find a slim "front pack" or chest pack some such that I could wear underneath clothing to throw tablet or macbook in and earpods some money, cards, etc. A hidden pack good for light day travel that's accessible from side or bottom that wouldn't stick out like a backpack or fanny pack and make me a potential target.

It has a awesome water bottle holder, and you you can wear it sling mode, unless you go hiking then it can transform into an awesome lumbar pack. It’s tactical without looking tactical!
