Nice recovery! Not everything goes as planned. At least you salvaged the bowl. It now has character! Thanks for sharing.

Thanks! Oh how I know things can fail. Have a huge walnut bowl that the epoxy casting failed when I was setting the keys of an organ in the rim.

You and I both! There was about .5 seconds of time that I thought it might not come all the way loose. Lol

Thank you! After that second drop that was my fault I had to save it! Thanks for watching!

Great save with minimal added expense besides your time. You added your own spalting.

I was lucky it left clean lines to work with. Definitely could have used a little more thickness to work with lol.

Those are the go change the britches moments!!!! And the squealing sound is the worst. Thought that only happened in my shop lmao!!! Dude you need to keep that bowl for yourself now! Once again, amazing work bro! That’s some skill right there!

Hahaha thanks! I’m sure it’s from ridding the bevel to hard. But I do know going thin really cranks up the squealing. Though you can use the noise as a thickness indicator.

Way to give it life! Too many people would have called that firewood and moved on.

Accepting failure isn’t in my vocabulary. It honestly teaches you new things about why it failed if it’s repairable.

Fantastic save! The black CA worked perfectly as did your edge repair. I'm beginning to try "Kintsugi ("golden joinery")" to repair using gold mica powder with resin. You have inspired me to be less fearful of broken bowls.

Always glad to inspire! Repairs can make a piece better if you can. You can always mix mica powder with thick CA for a quicker bond. Just squirt some out in a cup and mix in the mica. Gotta use the thick though, the thin will almost immediately harden.

Dogwood does well thin. Carvers can use it to make bird feathers.

Oh it gave me a hell of a run for the money. That second break was almost the last straw lol.
